I think a lot of bi guys simping for the TRA's will be like "I'm attracted to men and women but I iDenTiFy As A gAy MaN" - and that's used as evidence that gay guys will have sex with females.

Then they demanded that they should be called ‘real men’ too. Okay. So we started saying ‘biological men’ to differentiate.

Then they started insisting they were ‘biological men’ too. So how about men and ‘males’? Nope, they demand to be considered male too. Ugh.

[–]ThiccDropkick 34 insightful - 1 fun34 insightful - 0 fun35 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think a lot of the community's problems stemmed from TQ+. Hundreds of genders, the idea that it's all about how you feel and you become a whole different gender if you feel masculine/feminine one day. The oppression olympics and people's opinions somehow holding more weight if they're judged to have it worse off than others in some obscure and abstract way.

I believe you're either homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual. And either male or female. If presenting and being perceived as the other sex is the only way you can alleviate a severe gender dysphoria, then that's fine. I'll respect people's pronouns. But you're still biologically the sex you were born as and that will never change.

My problems with the trans community begins with them regularly competing for virtuousness and attemptint to drive the narrative further and further. First it was there aren't as many differences between males and females as you think. Then that became there are no differences at all - which of course becomes we were trained by society to like a certain set of genitals and people who only like one are superficial 'genital fetishists'. And finally - being a man or woman is completely in someone's head. Body parts make no difference. If you only like guys with dicks then you're just obsessed with them and can't see past sex

The community has become too toxic and needs to be brought back down to earth. I don't want them to bring down any other groups which is why I think they need to be seen as their own separate thing.

They really do just piggyback on the gay movement. In one of the first lessons of sex ed I had in middle school we were told that when we hit puberty we might find ourselves attracted to the same sex instead of the opposite, and that it was totally fine. Later on we were reminded that gay men were more at risk than anyone else of contracting HIV so we'd need to be more careful. This is stuff we should be taught.

But trans issues and gender identities are different. Imagine taking a group of kids who are beginning to go through puberty, still figuring out who they are, and telling them that if they don't feel right in their body or don't conform to gender stereotypes, then they might not be a real boy or girl after all and could be trans. The teacher wouldn't even be able to define what it means to feel like a boy/girl, but would still have to teach it.

This is what makes me mad whenever homosexuality and trans issues are lumped together. No, genuine concerns about transing children are not jUsT rEdReSsEd HoMoPhObIa and teaching kids that it's ok to be gay is not the same thing as telling them they might be living in the wrong body.

I think you're either male or female. Intersex does exist but even then, you're still one or the other but with a deformed sex gene. If being perceived as the other sex is the only way someone can alleviate a severe gender dysphoria then I can sympathise with that. I've dealt with mental health issues most of my life.

Someone who transitions is still the biological sex they were born as and nothing will change that. And that's okay. It doesn't make someone any less of a person to be trans. My issues begin when they start trying to tell others they really are the other sex, and attack the people who remind them otherwise.

It may not be something the majority of the trans movement outright says, but the goal of modern trans activism is to undermine and dismiss the differences between trans and natal men/women; and say that it’s offensive to point those differences out.

In doing that, they’re laying a rock solid foundation for someone to take the leap and go “Well if there are no major differences between trans and natal men, then why wouldn’t a gay guy want to date a trans man for being trans?” And of course the convenient answer is ’discrimination’.

When you combine this with the articles published about how trans people are discriminated against in the dating world; and the people saying they shouldn’t be under any obligation to tell a date that they’re trans, it’s not hard to see how we got here.

I think it’s more accurate to say that trans activists tolerate the concept that there’s nothing wrong with blanket refusing sex with trans people, because they know the backlash they’d face if they didn’t. But it’s not an idea they whole-heartedly support; and it conflicts with their other messages. Either

A) There are only superficial differences between trans and natal men/women and they’re easy to look past

OR

B) There’s nothing wrong with saying you’d never date a trans man/woman because they’re different

These ideas can’t coexist and it’s only a matter of time before one gets abandoned for the sake of the other. Personally I think it’s only a matter of time before it’s put into the same degree of taboo as racial preferences in dating.

Somewhere in the last 5 years, homosexual became "attracted to everyone who uses the same pronouns as you (unless you're a weird genital fetishist and only date cis men)*, I started being told that I was transphobic for not wanting a relationship with a trans guy because "You have no idea what they're like! For all you know, they could be 100% identical to a cis guy with a real dick and everything!" Hmm..

I still know and have known trans people who are cool and recognise that their crossdressing/cosmetic surgery doesn't make them the opposite sex, but they seem to be a dying breed in the world of increasingly radical trans activism.

I understand it's more common in males but is the alternative really to just sweep all the shit we get from trans men under the carpet? They're far from innocent when it comes to fetishising themselves and the experiences of the opposite sex. Framing it as a "trans men are the good ones fighting against the enemy (trans women)" is just idiotic.

It particularly bothers me because of how bipartisan the sub was. Now of course it gets painted as an anti-gay Christian alt-right sub on Reddit because nobody can easily look it up and see that they’re lying.

It wasn’t even a transphobic sub. Yes there were some arguably transphobic people there but nowhere near as bad as the places that condone and encourage beating people half to death for misgendering but naturally Reddit turns a blind eye to that

Increasingly seeing vaguely disguised hompohobia from trans people. I know there are idiots in every group but what began to disturb me was how many people were agreeing with them and calling anything else "transphobia".

I heard about DropTheT on Reddit because someone mentioned on another sub how awful it was but as soon as I went there I found it actually wasn't that bad at all.

Then it was gone and every sub that didn't worship trans people got banned with the agressively anti-TERF subs left alone to thrive in typical Reddit fashion. That's what prompted me to actively seek out this sub on SaidIt (a website I never used).

My strategy is still to just question them. If they call me transphobic, I ask them to show me an example of my transphobia. If they call me far-right or a nazi, I ask them to show an example of me holding those views.

So far nobody has taken me up on my offers though. I either get blocked, insulted, or banned if it’s a mod.

When my teacher recently kept saying "men" when she was talking about penises and vice versa I corrected her in the private chat, but she just said "the district doesn't let us talk about that" and "thank you for private messaging me"

Is it really that big of a problem to use terms that apply perfectly to 99.6% of the population? There's no confusion, you know exactly what the teacher meant.

I have my own little techniques. I always say non-trans instead of cis, birth sex instead of gender assigned at birth, sex instead of gender, etc.

That usually catches the attention of the typical TRA on the prowl for wrong-thinkers. So then they call me a 'transphobe', I ask them to elaborate, they can't so they get all angry

And then it's all there for onlookers to see our conversation. And it's up to them to decide who is the more reasonable one

I think I’ve found out problem within seconds of reading the article.

typically young (millennial), straight, white cisgender males of privilege”

When you dismiss a group of people in this way and tell them they’re ‘privileged’ it’s no wonder they might think twice about supporting you.

Also, the researcher included “queer” as a slur when counting anti-lgbt language.. so, it’s offensive when dudebros use it but apparently fine for everyone else? Also ‘no homo’. Which I almost never see being used in an offensive way nowadays.

For a while now I’ve felt increasingly distanced from the broader LGBT+ scene as it encompasses more and more concepts and gets (in my opinion anyway) less focussed and meaningful. I’ve seen a couple of people now describing gay guys as the straights of the LGBT+ community. Aka the least oppressed and the least needing (deserving?) of a place in the group.

I thought I'd be downvoted to hell but I ended up getting two awards on my comment there lol

[–]ThiccDropkick 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What a great article. Tons of (conveniently anonymous and vague) accusations about the BBC’s supposedly rampant transphobia, plus not a single mention of why Stonewall has attracted controversy recently.

Stonewall has received a huge backlash in some sections of the UK media because of its vocal support for trans rights, and other organisations have withdrawn from the diversity scheme this year

No, Stonewall received backlash because they were accused of interpreting the equality act in their own way and giving inaccurate advice, which caused a bunch of companies who paid Stonewall to give them advice to question the charity’s value.

Honestly, the people saying it's transphobic to not date a trans guy don't annoy me half as much as the guys going "Yes I'm 100% homosexual but I'm TOTALLY into pre-op trans men with vaginas!".
