I cant wait to see the shitshow the site becomes on June 12th, Reddit blackouts have always been good for a laugh. The front page of r/all will be a ghost town with subs either going private, or locked down/restricted to only mod updates.

Here's the list of subs that will be participating: https://old.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/duplicates/1401qw5/incomplete_and_growing_list_of_participating

My prediction:

I think Reddit won't budge on charging for high-tier access to APIs, but they may consider a slight price reduction as waving a white flag to get all the powermods to calm down. Pushshift will come back and pay the costs because they have institutions and funding behind them as support. App developers will still have to shut down since they can't afford it.

Powermods won't be able to resist coming back to Reddit though, THIS IS THEIR LIFE, and they'll continue to mod and complain about how terrible Reddit is. But they'll be less effective at what they do as all their tools stop working and Reddit doesn't rebuild them natively in the app or on New Reddit. Old Reddit will die, and with it, Toolbox and RES. Spam and astroturfing and general low-quality shit will creep into subs more and more, and make it unbearable for mods and old users who remember the good old days.

New users will have no idea of any of this going on because they're already on the Reddit app and New Reddit - these are users who just scroll and consume, as Reddit sinks into garbage quality content and reposts. These users will be none the wiser that the good days are behind them because they never knew they existed. They will not be loyal to Reddit though, not in the same way the old users and mods are/were. Once Reddit gets boring, they will easily download another app and go to the next hot thing.

In short, I think we're watching a gigantic fire-y turd coming out of Reddit headquarters as they (again) prepare to go public, and it will lead to their demise. It won't be quick though, it will be slow and painful and their executives will keep scratching their heads wondering what went wrong and why they're bleeding users for a few years. By that time, several of the alternatives will have built up enough of a stable presence that people will start dividing their time between those sites instead.

Reddit as an aggregator and discussion forum really had something special, and they had it for a long time. This is not how they keep it that way though, and I don't think they really want to anymore. They're no longer this cool indie trailblazer taking the web in a new direction. They're a gigantic tech presence now, and power-hungry and corrupt. Most companies get there in the end, and then they fade away as something new and innovative comes along.

The layman's way of understanding APIs is: every bit of information on a site goes into a database. APIs are a tool that allows 3rd parties to access the database from outside the company, and make something with all that data.

Some people make apps for your phone, some make new websites, some use it for personal fun, some use it for data hoarding, etc.

What does everything think about what's going on over at Reddit? Is this the death knell, are we seeing Digg 2.0 in real time? Or will social media addiction overcome all resistance?

For those out of the loop, Reddit announced changes to their API access 1-2 months back, which were to become effective June 19th. Rate limitations, costs to utilize, and limiting NSFW content are the major changes.

In May, they killed Pushshift API access, which is what drives sites like Unddit, Reveddit, and more. Pushshift may or may not be coming back with new terms, we'll see.

Most recently, the largest 3rd party developer app (Apollo, for iOS) had a conversation with Reddit about what their costs would be. It comes with a price tag of $20,000,000 USD per year. That is not a typo, it's 20 million. Reddit assured developers that the costs would be reasonable, and instead, went down the Twitter path.

Since all 3rd party apps use the API and will have ridiculously inflated costs, they are shutting their apps down as of July 1st, the hard cutoff date. I've been feeding my drama-llama for the past few days, and the concerns are:

  • Most users are willing to give money to app developers to continue, but very few are "whales". Even if they weren't offended by Reddit's behavior towards developers, they simply can't afford $10-$20 per month to support the ridiculous $20M price tag.

  • Limiting NSFW content in the API means no porn, and we know Redditors can't just NOT consume porn. The horror! I joke, but in their defense, it IS limiting half (if not more) of the content available on Reddit.

  • Many many MANY mods use 3rd party apps to work on their phone. It's been a long time since I used the Reddit app, but when our sub was still there, the mod tools were laughable and ineffective, and the app was filled with ads and suggested/promoted content instead of my home page. It was terrible, and I can only imagine it's gotten worse. If mods can't mod on their phones, then they're chained to their desktop/laptop PCs to function properly. That introduces delays in timely management, and some mods don't even have a desktop/laptop to fall back on.

Mods are now coordinating a sitewide sub blackout in protest. The protest will begin on June 12th. Regular users of 3rd party apps are all threatening to leave Reddit entirely on July 1st, and are already signing up at other sites like Lemmy, Tildes, etc.

Truscum and transmeds do have their set of problematic beliefs, to be sure. Some of them do truly believe it's possible to change sex, which doesn't help any of this.

They do at least understand the problem with trenders and tucutes and Q+ hijacking the movement. But they don't understand that their own lack of gatekeeping caused this.

If they had pushed harder about dysphoria being a true mental illness that needs medical support to find treatment/cure, and stuck with that ... we might not be in quite the mess we're in. I think they got complacent when they saw trans in general getting societal support, and didn't peek behind the curtain to see who or what was running things until too late.

I can sympathize with that.

The Imgur anonymous image purge is underway, it began about two weeks ago.

Once Imgur servers stop going down because of r/DataHoarders, I am going to make an account and re-upload all our Wiki images. For anyone who watches the modlog - you will then see me making updates, as I replace all our dead links with new ones.

Something I haven't been able to find out is what Imgur plans to do with anonymous images shared AFTER May 15th. Will they delete them after a set amount of time, does anyone know? I've been archiving every image post here, since we don't know how long they will last.

Also, in case anyone missed it: Twitter is going to delete inactive accounts too. So RIP to those kept as memorials, like Magdalen :( If you have a Twitter account you use just to like posts or browse, be sure to login every 30 days.

It hasn't become widespread yet, but it's happening, mainly in women-focused subs like 2X, Troll2X, AskWomenOver30, etc.

There's also idiocy like "trans women are biological women", but it's Bardfinn of course, so take it as you will.

I am so TIRED of always having to advocate for myself, for educating cis dumbasses and for not having the right to be mad. I am so frustrated that nobody understands.

Disregard this "cis" and "trans" aspect of what went on in this particular experience.

What happened to her in the past, and what she's experiencing in the present, is just guy things and patriarchy in action. She believes that gay men are not like straight men, they are soft and feminine and uWu (homophobia) so they won't do the same things.

But this actually has nothing to do with sexuality at all. Its culture and gender roles and all of that. Like what Radfems/GC talk about. Its the very clear difference in how men and women behave with each other.

I am scared that I will not be angry and assertive enough when I'll see him, because I feel like if I'm not sweet he will go away and I'll be alone forever.

At the end of it all, it has nothing to do with how he responds. He will act how he does because of how he learned and grew up in his particular society and community. The problem is her, and her perception, and her needs trying to be shoved onto someone else.

TL,DR: Started to fall in love with a cis guy, we had sex. He wrote a text about my body and how feminine he saw me.

THAT'S BECAUSE HE IS GAY AND YOU ARE A WOMAN.

You haven't heard of Jonathan Yaniv/Jessica Yaniv/Jessica Simpson/trusted nerd?

I don't know that I can sum it up to give you a clear picture of who he is, but I'll try. Along with the linked site, Kiwi Farms also has a full active thread on him, I really recommend going down the rabbit hole if you can stomach it.

He's an AGP who goes after tween girls primarily, and also targets immigrant women for legal battles. He lives in Canada with his mother, where he's protected by self-ID and other such laws. The trans community rejects him as "not true trans" while also insisting on respecting his pronouns, all the while sticking their fingers in their ears when we say "this is the type of person we've been warning you all about". He's pretty much a poster child of everything that can go wrong with the TQ+ community opening up doorways to predatory behavior.

His flair here (Wax Muh Balls) is reference to a number of court cases where he tried to sue small privately-owned waxing shops for not giving him a Brazilian. After that, a whole bunch of tweet and private chats with young girls surfaced, showing him trying to get close to them talking about periods and tampon usage and things like that. He also once tried to promote an adult-free clothing optional swim meetup for teenagers.

Post has now been removed, and for anyone who can't see the archive:

  • Post is in r/gaytransguys
  • Post title: Sometimes I feel like I truly will be alone forever

It's only occasional. Like sometimes I go into depressive spirals or I hear ab my friends' relationships and it kinda just. Hits me. The feeling not a realization or anything, I'm not completely convinced I'll die alone and unloved. I'm an optimist.

But I think ab myself as I am. My identity, my standards (low), and where I live. Like I'm an asexual gay trans guy and I live in a rural ass area in Michigan. Not a lot of progressive ppl at least in my sense. I know a lot of gay guy culture is sex based - like hookup culture n shit. I.. do not like sex. I'm very sex positive, sure, but also sex adverse. I don't like sex, rather not have it, and that's a huge deal breaker for the general population, nevermind the general gay population. So I guess I'm kinda scared my small ass dating pool is basically non-existent cause I'm ace and knowing my luck all of the gay guys around me aren't emotionally mature enough for an actual relationship and only have the capacity for under the table hookups. And then there's the issue of my being trans that just adds a whole other layer I think is pretty obvious.

I guess what I'm rambling for is; there's a reality where I'm not alone forever, right? Someone will like me for all that I am and on purpose? There's hope for ppl like me?

[–]NutterButterFlutter 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think there are several things, but ultimately, conservatives finally felt this was a culture war outrage they could stand up against and win.

Not that beer, or Bud Light in particular, is representative of conservatives. But there is a specific class of people (working class, lower income, etc) who tend to drink Bud Light. In the US at least, that class is often conservative or moderate with traditional values, so it struck a nerve. They saw right through the propaganda and wanted to make their feelings about it known.

If Bud Light had gone with a softer approach to inclusiveness - maybe a gay male spokesman who lives a more traditional lifestyle with his husband and raising children - I don't think the reaction would have been anything like this. Instead an uber-woke marketing woman decided to completely ignore the audience of people who are receptive to Bud Light. She brought in not only an offensive caricature of women, but also one who is not a "good gay".

Mulvaney's personality is the campy/dramatic type that bullies perceive as weak, and he was likely beat up and called all sorts of names for being gay growing up. And now this "queer" (slur, not alphabet-soup letter) is the face of a brand that is practically synonymous with their lifestyle. There is an undercurrent of homophobia in the dislike and contempt, for sure.

I just assume all of these "cis gay men" they're talking about are bisexual men who primarily date guys.

Bis are often pressured to "pick a side", so these guys picked "gay" since they're into men the majority of the time.

Then along came these women who look like men, and these gay-but-actually-bisexual men are into it.

None girl, none by Chunkeeguy in LGBDropTheT

[–]NutterButterFlutter 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If he enjoys sex with a woman, then he's not homosexual, he's bisexual. But bisexuality is a spectrum.

There are bis who have sex with both men and women, but only have relationships with one. There are bis who primarily have sex and relationships with one, but do have rare instances of being with both. Etc.

This guy isn't like gay men who marry to hide being homosexual - they might develop a platonic love for the woman they marry, but the entire romantic and sexual aspect of the relationship is an act.

This guy is someone who never had any romantic or sexual interest at all in women so he thought he was gay. Then he stumbled across a woman who looks like a man, and romantic or sexual interest developed along the way, so he tried PiV and liked it.

If they break up, I doubt he'll go looking for another woman - he was never interested in them before. He just happened to like this one because she looks like a guy. He's technically bisexual, but he's on the far edge of the spectrum. Where he's into men 99% of the time, but will dabble a little bit with women under the right circumstances.

Notice in all their talk about finding a "cis gay man" who loves their "bonus hole", you never hear about the "cis gay man" eating pussy? These kinds of bisexual guys aren't into it for vagina, they just enjoy sex.

If people haven't heard yet, Imgur is changing their TOS.

As of May 15th, no porn will be allowed on the site at all, whether hidden or behind a private account or otherwise.

More importantly, they're also going to purge old images from anonymous users with no account!

I imagine that's pretty much 99% of their content, and easily half of internet guides and forums. It will be Photobucket and Imageshack all over again :(

If there are images out there you want to keep, I recommend downloading them to your computer in case they disappear. They have yet to clarify what they mean by "old, unused, and inactive content".

Apparently Florida is a really conservative state, at least as far as politicians go (mostly religious Repulicans). I can understand being concerned that there's a snowball effect going on and a lot of very minor things could end up becoming criminal offenses, but it feels like people are getting worked up about the wrong things.

Like people are saying "what, so if I'm gay and I go on a trip with my husband over the weekend, I can't even talk about it!". Back when I was in school, teachers never talked about their personal lives with us students. There was a very clear separation between adults and kids, and making sure personal boundary lines didn't get blurred. Is this a thing now???

Same bill now extended through 12th grade instead of 3rd.

It still allows for reproductive health/sex-ed classes to discuss these things - those classes apparently aren't a requirement of the state though, they're voluntary.

This is essentially barring gender identity and sexuality discussions from non-appropriate courses. As usual, the hand-wringing gender specials are blowing it out of proportion.

Pornsick people look for a place to belong, they find hentai (and the like) accepting. People who question their identity (trans or otherwise) also look for a place to belong.

Many people are pornsick, many people look for a place to belong - they all clash together in a safe space. That safe space is one where fantasy is proposed to be reality.

Trans is the latest "fantasy = reality", and hentai encourages that because it's childlike innocence combined with adult sexualization. It's pedophilia disguised as "cartoons", and is the perfect storm for AGPs to exist.

I don't think trans = AGP, but AGPs are using "trans" to become the norm.

Here's the Bingo card points I heard:

  • Access to life-saving healthcare
  • The right to use the correct bathroom
  • The right to play youth sports
  • Free from discrimination and dystopian surveillance
  • The right to marriage
  • The right to adopt
  • Workplace equality is on the line

Now, I haven't been following all 400+ bills that have been introduced, but I don't recall ANY of those things being taken away from trans people.

They still have access to healthcare like any of the rest of us - but some areas are trying to make it illegal to perform "gender-affirming" care (puberty blockers, HRT, surgeries) on minors. Trans people aren't going to die by not having those things unless they 41%, which is their decision. Some states are trying to take it farther and make it anyone under the age of 26, but that's a deliberate overreach. It won't pass and no one will mind, as long as the ones for minors do.

They can use the correct bathroom, the one that aligns with their sex. IMO if they pass as the other sex, STFU and use the other one. I mean, no one is gonna care if Blair White is in the ladies room or Buck Angel is in the man's. Normal people go in, do our business, and leave. We don't make it a national pasttime to announce our letter of the alphabet every time we need to pee, and then film it and post it on TikTok or Twitter. It's the AGPs and the trenders causing problems here.

They can play youth sports, the one that aligns with their sex. Males play on the "open to all" team, and females play on either the female or the open team. Hmmmm, now which possibility isn't being offered here and why is that problematic?

"Discrimination and dystopian surveillance" - not sure what they're talking about. We live in the technology age, aren't every single one of us subject to this? This isn't a "trans" issue.

Marriage / adoption / workplace equality - I haven't heard anything about these rights being taken away or even proposed to be taken away. The only thing that comes to mind is back when Roe-v-Wade got overturned, there were rumors about rolling back Obergefell-v-Hodges, but that's about same-sex marriage, not trans-anything. And it's now protected with the Respect for Marriage Act.

The “Lesbian” Bar Isn’t Dead. It’s Pouring Orange Wine in Los Angeles. (Quotation marks my own) by Chunkeeguy in LGBDropTheT

as a nonbinary person, they find the term “lesbian bar” unreliable, as it might be used to connote anti-trans ideas about who can, and cannot, identify as a woman.

As it should.

“But if I see that a bar is ‘lesbian and queer’ or ‘lesbian and trans,’ it denotes this is not just a gay bar,” they said. “This is a really safe space, and it’s changing the narrative of what it means to be a gay bar, a lesbian bar or a queer bar.”

Oh fuck right off. Get your ass out of lesbian spaces and stop trying to rewrite what the word means to suit your agenda.

This isn't a lesbian bar, it's a "queer" or LGBTQ+ bar. Next.

The fact that any opposition to "queer" is instantly labelled "anti-trans" is telling where the agenda is coming from. But lets not ignore that there were and are actual homophobes in the crowds, and some of them either pretending to be or truly are supporters of Nazis.

None of us - LGB or TQ+ - are supporting or enabling Nazis. The difference is, if Nazis show up at a TQ+ gathering, everyone coddles and supports TQ+. If Nazis show up at an LGB or a women-only gathering, everyone says the LGB/women support them and must be punished.

Homophobia is a whole different story though. TQ+ only recognizes it when it comes from the groups they've deemed unworthy - otherwise they are some of the worst perpetrators of it all on their own.

I think both can exist at the same time and still be good. Like how this sub is combined LGB, but there are also subs exclusively for gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals.

LGB combined, like LGB Alliance, focus on our needs as a group. We are all same-sex attracted individuals, and that is distinct from opposite-sex attracted individuals.

At the same time, each letter of L-G-B does have their own shared experiences, and should to be able support one another in that without taking away from the others.

Lesbians and gay men are both homosexual, but their experiences of homosexuality can and will differ since men and women are different. So they should be able to come together to support their own people (men-or-women) exclusively also.

Lesbians and bisexual women are both same-sex attracted, but bisexual women also like men. Each group of women should be able to have their own exclusive space where the differing sexuality of the other isn't overtaking or silencing their needs.

Same for gay men and bisexual men. They have commonalities within their same-sex attraction, but bi men also like women. So its OK for each group of men to have their own spaces without intruding their different sexualities onto each other.

We can all come together as a whole in our shared LGB group, while we can also have a unique supportive group for our individual sex-based attractions.

These unique groups - even us as LGBDropTheT instead of LGBTQP2SIAA+ - form BECAUSE the rainbow expanded into everyone and everything being lumped together as a whole. The expansion has taken away all agency from the individual sexualities because it blurs everything together.

Thank you! I was watching random YT videos of people who were talking about it but couldn't find any real info.

Someone in that Twitter thread said:

This is a not relevant to the issue at hand. Lia Thomas’s personal life and sexual preferences don’t matter.
What matters is that Lia Thomas was born a biological male and is being allowed to compete as a woman, and use the women’s dressing room w/o the consent of the women.

I think the problem is being a little TOO black-and-white, a little TOO "my view matters most". Lia's personal life and sexual "preferences" absolutely matter.

Both are 100% things that need to be addressed. We have a disgusting borderline pedo posing as trans for his sexual fetish, and we also have a man being allowed to be seen as a woman legally despite native/biological/whatever women saying FUCK YOU NO!

While these two issues are not necessarily the same, in this instance they are. Separating them only divides the strength of us ALL saying "this is unacceptable". We sometimes need to stop fighting our individual battle, and come together for the greater good first.

Exposing pedo degeneracy and squashing that is the clearest win, so take it, and continue moving forward from there. Keep those receipts, and use them to empower ourselves to move forward.

OOP is so caught up that she can't even understand she's trampling boundaries.

It doesnt matter the subject of the book, or OOPs feelings, or LGB+ rights, or the relationship with Tiffany or Tiffany's mom. All of that is fluff to not address the problem.

This was a baby shower with a registry, and OOP went off-registry for her own virtue-signaling. OOP admits she bought it because she had given it at other showers and just "assumed she and her husband would like" it, and only brings up that is was off-registry when Tiffany says there is an issue.

So it was always for OOP benefit, not for Tiffany and her soon-to-be-family. And then:

Because Tiffany herself has always appeared to be pro-LGBTQ+ rights, I didn't see the big deal. I figured it'd be a good book for an ally's library.

IT'S A BABY SHOWER. BRINGS GIFTS THAT BENEFIT THE BABY.

Its giving me nothing now also, I think maybe Reddit search broke. They did have a "security incident" this week, maybe this is some fallout.

This is one post I remember finding, and using Reddit search with keywords from the title doesn't give me any results:

But I was also reading posts about it in r/transmedical and r/transgender, and neither of those subs now have the posts I saw this morning. So it wouldn't surprise me if news of it is still being scrubbed.

Reddit reactions are interesting too. I searched using text instead of the article so I could find posts from other sources:

https://old.reddit.com/search?q=gender+clinic+whistleblower&restrict_sr=&include_over_18=on&sort=new

Ultra-liberal and trans-hugbox communities are predictably calling her a terf bigot with no authority to speak on medical issues, and that she is clearly a bootlicker for conservatives.

Truscum/transmeds are kinda all over the place - some agreeing more gatekeeping is needed and whistleblowing on these practices will help, and others being more TRA-adjacent and nitpicking words and phrases used as "dogwhistles" so they can discredit her.

Other communities are finally allowing articles to be shared, after mods were removing them like crazy yesterday (r/StLouis is one example of a sub that censored heavily). Seems like most non-LGBTQalphabet are on-board, regardless of political affiliation, and interested in the results of further investigations.

But yes, the sub is spiraling and will end up being banned eventually. Been going that way ever since the old mods got suspended (like ThomasJefferson/SepzForgotSwartz) and new ones came on. There is no appeasing Reddit when the goal is documenting hypocrisy, manipulation, and censorship. They don't want themselves called out.
