And someone there said nearly the exact same thing, that they really hoped it was a TERF behind the account saying all the worst things just to see how far Reddit will go to support it.

I like how they brought our SaidIt sub into it, as if that's somehow evidence of us being this little fringe movement.

(Also, hello stalkers! Looks like you didn't get rid of us after all!)

Sure, we're small here, but we started out small on Reddit too. In 16 months, we went from 0 to 23K users.

r/LGBT has been around for 13 years with 729K users. While that gives them an average of 56K each year, more than us ... lesser doesn't mean insignificant.

We were HALF of what they are, even with their hundreds of identities and inclusiveness bringing in non-LGBT members to falsely inflate numbers. I'd be very curious to see their subscriber count if they removed everything after the T.

This is so creepy, I'd love to hear the mom's side of it too.

I mean, even IF she was the trashiest most obnoxious mom in the world ... THAT'S HER KID. If you're concerned about a child's safety, alert the authorities, don't get in-between them and block their access to each other like a kidnapper.

I was just re-reading this part:

I noticed a fear in her voice and she went wide-eyed when her mom pulled up. I asked again if she was really okay and she started crying. Her mom gets out of the car and yells at her to get in.

It never even occurred to this man that the little girl may have been scared by a stranger continually talking to her while she's all alone waiting for her mom.

This woman started screaming the girl’s name and tried putting her into the car. I held the girl back because the woman was getting more upset and more handsy.

This mom can get as goddamn upset and handsy as she wants when she's pulling HER CHILD away from a stranger.

Was reddit just more convenient? Do people not know about this site?

I would agree with both of those being a big part of the reason. Reddit has been active since 2005, and has millions of users, while SaidIt is still rather small (less than 50K users, if I remember correctly). If you venture out into other subs, you'll see the same names over and over ... there just isn't the volume of users here that Reddit has.

But also, Reddit fills a gap that other sites haven't really picked up steam with yet, which is mindless browsing and advice subs. Think about r/aww or r/tifu or any other popular sub, people can click-click-click and upvote a cute cat pic when they're bored, or engage in some armchair psychology with other users. Those subs have nurtured a specific kind of culture and that takes effort, effort which other sites (like this) are still growing into.

Another reason is that SaidIt, and really all Reddit-alternatives, get painted as "alt-right havens for nazis and anti-Semites". Redditors like to pretend deplatforming works to "get rid of hate" and "fracture the groups so they can't find each other anymore". While there is a little bit of truth in that, what they willfully ignore is that anyone who is banned, be they right or left, nazi or hippy, will continue to seek out others with the same experience. Some users choose to make alt accounts on Reddit and antagonize them further, while some choose a new site and leave Reddit behind.

When you deplatform all the nazis, they don't blink out of existence ... they find <newsite> and gather. When you deplatform the next group, they remember hearing about <newsite>, and even though they don't really want to hang with nazis, they give <newsite> a chance, figuring it's gotta be better than the last place at least. And slowly-but-surely, that's how <newsite> gains traction and grows into something better.

This isn't really appropriate for our sub, since we're LGB focused.

Perhaps s/GenderCritical, s/GenderCriticalGuys, or maybe even s/ThereAreTwoGenders? Although s/ThereAreTwoGenders does tend to be more focused on rebuttal of gender identity rather than nuanced discussion of sex issues.

Unfortunately, doesn't look like there's a sub created yet for intersex people, would be perfect there.

What age are they suggesting this kind of pleasure-oriented "queer" sex start being taught?

I started having sex ed classes in school when I was 10, IIRC. It's completely inappropriate to talk to a 10 year old about masturbation, porn, and "how to have sex". Hell, even 16 year old me would have cringed taking a course like that ... kids can be really vicious and mean to each other, especially about matters that are usually pretty private.

Seems to me like it's perfectly fine to mention - while discussing health and puberty - that boys like girls and girls like boys, and also there are boys that like boys and girls who like girls, and all are perfectly normal. But to get into the joys of sex or whatever, that doesn't sit right with me at all. I don't think schools should be teaching that unless it's a college-level course/workshop.

I don't know if schools are still doing it (since I'm old and all), but in my day, sex ed was mandatory. However, parents were given a curriculum/syllabus ahead of time, told how long the classes would last (typically 1-2 weeks), and given the choice to opt their kids out and into an alternative course or study hall.

We employed multivariable logistic regression to examine pregnancy risk by sexual orientation, measured as self-reported sexual identity and gender of sexual partners

Well there you go. Gender identity strikes again. Also, take a gander at this lovely "fact":

Overall, 14.3% of female and 10.8% of male students had experienced a pregnancy

Grew up in a liberal state, but a somewhat conservative area of it.

We absolutely WERE NOT taught about different ways of approaching sex, pleasure, intimacy, or anything like that. I learned those things privately, not in school.

Sex Ed in schools was more about health and biology - differences between men and women, what to expect in puberty, STD awareness, things like that.

They're like a virus. They'll fester and overrun it until it becomes r/LGBT-lite, or they'll taunt enough people to get reactions, and then Admins will shut it down for hate speech.

Remember, Reddit Admins have confirmed that males are not a minority group, and therefore are not deserving of protection under their rules. They'll just say you're promoting hate under the guise of "bad faith claims of discrimination".

We didn't state it explicitly since its soft form is implied throughout several rules, but also covered by the broader explanation in Rule 4 of "derogatory comments that divide our community".

We're not going to maintain a glossary of all possible -isms. I can make an FAQ stating so, but some common sense in interacting with a mixed-sex community is required. Women need to remember that men are welcome here, and men need to remember that women are welcome here, and neither should shit all over the other.

We're all allowed to have our individual beliefs though, even sexist beliefs, and express them in a civil and respectful manner that doesn't drag down the Pyramid.

  • What type of content do you want to see? Do you want this sub to be a memes-only sub? Or, should text-post jokes, shitposts, and other non-humorous relatable or positive content be allowed?

I would say memes, text-post jokes, and shitposts are all good. Non-humorous/relatable/positive content is nice, but I'd rather not see it since I feel like it would take away from the light-heartedness of a meme sub. I would be coming here for laughs, not serious discussion.

  • How to handle "drop the T" or TQ-focused content: Do you want "drop the T" content to be removed (and redirected towards s/lgbdropthet)? Or do you think "drop the T" posts should be allowed?

Depends on context. Something like this I would say fits, but something like this doesn't (these are examples I actually pulled from LGBDTT). For anything too serious/criticizing and not meme-y, redirect to LGBDTT or s/ThereAreTwoGenders.

  • Off-topic or casual threads: Are you interested in a discussion thread for just chatting and off-topic subjects? Possibilities: one stickied discussion thread, a daily discussion thread, a weekly thread for this (like the Sunday Social thread on droptheT), etc...

A daily or weekly discussion thread could work to balance non-humorous/relatable/positive LGB content, if people are interested in it. Warning though, AutoMod on this site doesn't have a scheduler built-in yet, so you or another mod would have to commit to posting the thread regularly.

  • Aesthetic stuff: Extra flair suggestions? Other aesthetic stuff?

I'd recommend starting simple and expanding as you notice trends. Maybe just start with post flair for lesbians, bisexuals, gay men, WLW, MLM ... and as you see posts that don't fit under those, then you can start making other post flairs for common themes.

Exactly, just gotta find subs that relate to your interests, and start getting involved and help grow the community.

Personally, I've hardly ventured out of my subs, but I really need to start. I'm still pretty shell-shocked from the past few years on Reddit, and it's made me hesitant to engage with others. I gotta work on overcoming that, 'cause from everything I've seen, SaidIt users are much better and actually open to converse about all sorts of things. Sure, there's extremists out there, but there's also a lot of reasonable and rational people, and they definitely outweigh the anti-Semites and nazis.

A Queer Geography: Journeys Toward a Sexual Self
Frank Browning

This is the provocative question posed by Frank Browning in a A Queer Geography. In this contemporary classic of gay literature, now with a revised first chapter, Browning shows us that gay culture is more a fabrication of American identity politics than of actual sexual desire. He explores the gay psyche as he travels from the streets of Brooklyn to the hill of Kentucky, from France to the Bay of Naples. As he does so, he argues that roots of gay identity by showing how the Puritan compact led to the backroom bawdy house, how being "born again" is reenacted as "coming out," and how gay men's search for their own identity profoundly echoes American's relentless quest for a national identity of its own. In the end, he demonstrates that while homosexuality may be universal, "gay identity" is a twentieth-century creation already being challenged.

We've discussed it, and are waiting to see how everything plays out with the S+ movements before adding them. s/LGBS is definitely a contender though!

A person with dysphoria gets banned from a trans subreddit for saying that grooming minors is wrong. by ukrdude10 in LGBDropTheT

[–]NutterButterFlutter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

True.

They used to have r/TrueTrannies, but it became overrun with spam and the mod was MIA. So two different users made subs r/truscum and r/transmedical. The r/TrueTrannies mod came back, and didn't know what to do with the sub since everyone bailed, so first they just deleted everything, and then finally made it private.

r/truscum took off faster than r/transmedical since it was made first, so that's where everyone tends to congregate. I believe they may also have two slightly different approaches. Transmeds believe in the goal of medical transition, whereas Truscum may or may not. Both believe gender dysphoria is required to be trans though, and that dysphoria is something medical in nature - whether it's a genuine biology/brain-based diagnosis or a mental illness is up for debate among them.

They could't go to r/transexual because it's being squatted on by powermods who reject "truscum". I don't remember why they didn't head over to r/transsexual (2 S-es) - there's a whole new mod team and rules there currently, so maybe it was also being squatted on back in the day or too open to "tucute" at the time.

I feel bad for r/truscum. I don't necessarily agree with all of their ideas, but they're definitely the sane and rational trans peeps. They need to drop the alphabet soup too if trans people are ever going to get the support they need.

[Bi-Cycle] How does your attraction compare with men vs women? by PeakingPeachEater in Bisexuals

[–]NutterButterFlutter 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

1) What are things (physical or personality) you like in women but not men?

Physically, I like just about everything about women. Soft skin, soft hair, smiles. I love curvy gals and muscular gals. I suppose my type is short brunettes, but I can find beauty in just about every woman. No preference for/against body hair. Personality-wise, I tend to be initially drawn to women with strong no-nonsense personalities, but ultimately get along best with women who are more moderate emotionally, and only turn it up to 15 when absolutely necessary.

2) What are things (physical or personality) you like in men but not women?

There are physical traits I find appealing, like forearms, defined jawlines, the hip/pelvis V-cut, things like that. I don't like beards, so facial hair needs to be clean-shaven (scruffy is also acceptable). I prefer short hair rather than long. Personality-wise (I'm totally stereotyping), I like that they're direct and purposeful, and tend to cut out story-telling and descriptives when sharing about themselves.

To be honest though, I like the IDEA of men much more than I actually like THEM, if that makes any sense. All the things I described are appealing until I actually have to experience them for a prolonged period of time. Without fail, I eventually lose physical attraction and their personalities become a chore to deal with.

3) Are there similarities in what you like in both?

Like OP, I too appreciate a nice ass, lol. I don't know that I can broadly apply similarities, more like things that I look for in a partner. Cleanliness/tidiness, similar sense of humor (dark, sarcastic), financially responsible, mindfulness towards commitments/responsibilities, attempting to be self-aware and/or focus on self-growth. I love to cook and try new recipes, and appreciate my booze, so the person would have to be more on the foodie-side of things and be OK with alcohol. No recreational drugs, no exceptions.

4) How often do you have a "bi-cycle"?

I don't date anymore or really feel much attraction to anyone these days, but in the past, I'd guesstimate every 4-5 years.

5) Do you lean towards opposite sex, same sex or is it equal attraction?

Again, not feeling much attraction anymore, but in the past, it was equal.

[–]NutterButterFlutter 15 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

If someone is raped by a man with a penis then they have every right and reason to not allow penis having men near them.

Yes, but they do not have the right to exclude penis-having women due to their trauma. "I was once raped by a man, so trans women should be excluded from all women's spaces" is a common refrain for TERFs.

That's not to say they have to be willing to have sex with trans women. That is their right.

Well.. which is it? Is it their right to not be willing to have sex with TW or do they not have the right to exclude them? Make up your mind.
