LOL

What's happening: Regulatory pressure and free speech concerns have pushed tech giants to abandon efforts to elevate quality information, leaving the public more susceptible to misinformation ahead of the 2024 election.

Just a bunch of sobbing over the fact that X no longer censors and fake boosts leftist news like it did pre-Elon, and that social media in general no longer hunts down every single Covid/vax post they don't like. Also California was looking to tax social media sites for news links, just like the idiot Libs in Canada.

It's interesting that these referrals have declined considerably more on Facebook than they have on X.

Axios blames "regulatory pressure," but I'm not so sure. Two other factors in the mix:

1) "Top global news sites" are paywalling, and no one wants to link people to stuff they can't read;

2) Politics fatigue. I think it's very real. We all lost friends and even family members over politics between 2014 and 2021, and now a lot of us would rather see anything other than politics. And that's pretty much all the "top global news sites" cover anymore.

As a "part A" to add onto your #2 Politics Fatigue:

Maybe people are getting a little more internet-tech-savvy as a result, and finding ways to block certain sites or content. Not only from displaying, but also from tracking them if they happen to click.
