The H in Homosexual stands for "Hurts trans feelings because it reminds them that sex is a fact and they know deep down that they're wasting the one life they will ever have chasing something impossible." Queer is OK though because the Q stands for "Quickly talking over the people who were hurt by this word because it's perfectly vague enough to exploit and all those people are all either dead or disgusting Olds who don't deserve to have a say anymore."

(Forgot about automod.) Honestly almost every single time I see a self-described "lesbian" write something like that on Reddit I go to their post history and it's almost without fail a trans-identified male.

I’d rather be called a homosexual than a queer. Not just because the word "homosexual" defines my sexual orientation. Not just because the word "queer" is vague. Not just because the word "queer" has been - and still is - used as an anti-gay slur. "Queer" also has radical, activist, neoliberal connotations, which I do not appreciate.

"Queer" can mean whatever the speaker wants it to mean, that's what is so dangerous about it.

Want to boast about political power? Queer includes everyone except straight frat guys.

Want to be victimized? Queer means like a handful of people in San Francisco and Brooklyn.

Notice how homosexual “medicalized” lbgt people, not homosexuals. 🙄

I notice more and more cases of homophobia against gay men and lesbians being reported as cases of LGBTQphobia, crimes against LGBTQ+ people, etc. But they always make sure to be super specific about trans people, about transphobia, etc.

"Please use the word 'queer.' It is more inclusive, as it was only used when beating and killing gay men and lesbians uwu."

I was accused of being a "cishet" and "sock puppet" the other day because I referred to myself as homosexual.

You've got to laugh. Anything that doesn't align with their pathetic little narrative blows their feeble fucking minds.

I'm homosexual. I'm gay. I am what I am. I'm terribly sorry if words hurt your feelings, but LGB is sex-based, not gender-based.

    Gay/Lesbian - homosexual - exclusively same-sex attracted.

    Straight - heterosexual - exclusively opposite-sex attracted.

Bisexual - attracted to both sexes.

All pan- and polysexuals are bisexual, but not all bisexuals are pan- or polysexual.

The only people upset by this seem to be people whose entire fragile 'identities' revolve around denial of reality.

They called you straight because you said you were gay?

What even is going on anymore?

    [–]ThiccDropkickGay 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It gets in the way of them redefining gay to be “attracted to the same pronouns/identities”

    [–]OPPRESSED_REPTILIANIntersex male | GNC | Don't call me "a gay", "twink" or "queen" 10 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

"Homosexual" is the only appropriate term for my sexuality. I am not "a gay", because I am not happy, I have nothing to do with "gay culture", and I don't like being referred to as a condescending & grammatically incorrect term. I am not a "man loving man", because I do not love men. I am not "queer" because I have nothing in common with "queer people." I am not a "twink" nor a "femboy" because those words are derogatory.

So, the only choices I accept are "homosexual" or "ғᴀɢɢᴏᴛ". You must choose. You must choose which one fits the best with your "woke" worldview and which of them is the least "hhhhh,,,,,,..,, homophobic,,, and,,,, triggering,,,"

whut? people are literally making up shit, left and right. the problem is that we give any of them the room to be heard or believed on the internet. its time to start calling people out, and not remain silent.

    [–]Lizzythelezzo 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

To be fair, I have seen the word "homosexual" used a lot by preachers and religious fundamentalists when ranting about the evils of gay sex/relationships. So I think that may be where it comes from... however I do think it's fallen out of favour due to trans activism as well.

    [–]Three_oneFourWanted for thought crimes in countless ideologies 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

But why should that taint the word? Plenty of people said the Harry Potter books were full of satanic imagry and shit, but we didn't rename the books to distance them from the bad press.

The only reason a word should be dropped is if it is inherently derived from something that actually derogatory or highlights a terrible past, such as the F slur being derived from the term used for a bundle of kindling sticks which were used to burn us because we weren't good enough for the stake like the witches were. That is a word I can understand dropping, because its root is tied to blood.

The Q slur, as far as I can tell, is derived from an old definition that means "weird" which, while not being as offensive as refering to us by our execution method, is still understandably inherently derogatory.

Homosexual, however, is a purely logical and emotionless word that merely describes a sexual orientation involving exclusively same sex attraction, and should be very difficult to taint, as anyone who uses it derogatorily would need to adopt it rather than inventing it. While there has been a prime example in the past of someone adopting a positive, not just neutral, symbol and turning it into something that is more associated with the approprator than its origin, this event had plently of help from the fact that most people of the western world, even at the time, had little to no exposure to the original definition, and so had the negative version as their first and only introduction to the symbol, as well as the attrocious things done with this symbol being so attrocious and famous. So far, no use of homosexual has ever come close to that

I mean, I agree with you that homosexual should be a neutral and not a negative word. I think it's particularly important to distinguish same sex attraction in this era of trans rights activism. But I come from a fundamentalist religious background and found that the term homosexual was often used to condemn people instead of words like gay/lesbian/bisexual/queer. I think it may be partly because it's used in certain modern Bible translations.
