Jesus. Taking her little girl away. Crawling in my skin.

It doesn't look like a good movie. Pretty cheap tactics and with its own political agenda. I think it will do more harm than good. But well, I guess someone must talk about the botched surgeries since everyone likes to pretend they don't exist and transition cures dysphoria.

I've had a rollercoaster of opinions on the word "queer". Yes it used to be exclusively a slur but over time it became less of an issue and I started to like the word as an all encompassing term instead of saying "LGBT" it seemed easier to say queer. Unfortunately then you had all these self insert "quirky" straight people pop in and start using it as a new identity because they wanted to identify into an oppressed community. So then they all started saying "LGBTQ" which defeated the purpose of using queer as a general term. It's because those people were not gay or bi or even trans. They were basically girls who wanted to wear pants and dye their hair blue while pretending to be oppressed so they shoehorned in the Q onto the end of the acronym. The word was already a slur but gaining some use as a decent 1 syllable word to replace the acronym. Then it got colonized by some disgusting people who also manipulated the acronym to include queer. You could no longer logically use queer to replace the acronym which also contains the same word. Slur + no logic + worst people = stop using it.

Yeah. The big argument in favor of puberty blockers is that if the child wants to go through with transition, they won't have the "damage" of having gone through the "wrong" puberty. Aside from the fact that this sounds like a conspiracy to make sure they don't develop as their sex would dictate and thus are way more likely to feel like they don't fit in as the sex they are since they missed puberty, I don't see how they can possibly hope to go through with their correct puberty after missing it. They claim that you can't undo puberty, but that would imply that you can't do puberty late either.

Yeah, I don't get why this doesn't go without saying. That "blocking puberty" = locking these kids into permanent prepubescence, i.e., early childhood. Developmental disability by design. How many people (particularly parents) think that THAT sounds like a good idea?

And even beyond the damage that it does to their reproductive systems, there's my main worry: what's it doing to their brains?

hmm, it's almost like taking drugs that prevent sex hormones from making someone undergo puberty make them not have the changes that puberty is supposed to make happen.

Was this ever a question? This is literally the whole point of puberty blockers according to their very name

It's two different groups now.

There's "truscum" or transmeds who believe you need gender dysphoria to be trans, and that's the only reason anyone should consider transition.

And then there's the modern TQ+ movement filled with "tucutes", "transtrenders", and any possible letter/name/identity they make up and want to include. They shun truscum as evil bootlicking gatekeepers.

Now, we're at the part where we supposedly deserve to have people without gender dysphoria undergo reassignment surgery

Just like it's happening in europe, birth rates are declining, the population is aging and immigrants with homophobic ideologies are free to come as they please. Because we need young workers to keep the capitalist machine running.

That, coupled with gender ideology and extremism from the lgbt community (because of course we had to combat fire with fire) is what is causing the declining support in my opinion. It's only going to get worse

PBS News ran this segment examining declining support for LGBTQ+ rights and blames it all on political polarization. They do no granular examination of the various subsets of LGBTQ+ and fail even to mention the extreme pivot towards the TQ+ over the last decade since same-sex marriage. There's no mention of the controversy over gender ideology and how that has inflamed the situation.

And, of course, comments are turned off -- because they know people will point this out.

I mean, the BBC is all "TWAW!1!", right? And yet, their headline for this story is: "Nepal Registers First Same-Sex Marriage"!

Um... what? Wouldn't that mean that this is two men getting married? How the hell could it be "same-SEX" otherwise?

So, yeah, BBC (and all you other thugs enforcing the Transquisition): quit with the sorry-ass propaganda. Because it doesn't convince even YOU. The truth always ends up leaking out. Revealing you for the hypocrites (and liars) that you are.

But it HAD to be "same-sex" marriage in order to be a story at ALL, didn't it? Because if it was a same-GENDER marriage... it would have been legal already. As it ALWAYS HAS BEEN SINCE FUCKIN' TIME BEGAN. Yeah, because THAT'S what your oh-so-precious "gender" means, TRAs: N O T H I N G.

This sub is in a downslope of engagement at the moment and that's OK. LGB "Drop The T" will persist and remain a space for our people, whether we are 5 or 50,000 strong.

The boys bathrooms in the 80s and 90s were always teetering on the edge of vandalism at my schools. Like half the time you walk in and there were giant wads of toilet paper stuck to the ceilings. I can just imagine you put tampons in there and at least 1 boy is going to do something.

"Gay voice" is an accent, and accents are learned, period. Any sane linguist would tell you that. Now, learning accents is mostly subconscious, but it can also be conscious, as in the case of actors or people who decide to change their native accent for various reasons.

If you listen to what we call "gay voice," it's a mixture of Valley Girl California and African-American Vernacular English, with some likely additions from the speech patterns of female Golden Era movie stars, like Bette Davis, Judy Garland, or Rosalind Russell. Stage voices feature those peculiar exaggerations. It's possible that a subculture of gay men in metropolitan areas acquired those vocal mannerisms from theater or film, aping their favorite stars.

I know plenty of gay men who don't speak with the gay accent at all, so, to me, the idea that it's innate is absurd/ridiculous.

I think some gay men subconsciously pick up femenine traits. It never happened to me but some people say it's innate and they think the rest of us have internalized homophobia.

I think that I would rip it off the wall too and I'm not a teenager.

I saw posts about this in reddit. They are blaming it on transphobia or boys being boys. The "trans men exist" comments make me sick, I'm tired of religious cults. At this point being transphobic is a good thing

This seems like a potential problem for community engagement though. Dealing with trolls is important, but it'll also be difficulty to keep fresh blood engaging with posts from people already in the community. I think most places strike a balance by restricting new thread creations to users with an account that's older than a certain age, and a certain number of posts created (10 - 20 is a safe margin usually). That way you don't have to manually go through approvals, and it presents enough of a barrier for casual trolling. Only dedicated trolls will go to the effort of posting stuff that appears to be legitimate and have the patience for threadmaking, which allows them to be weeded out more easily.

I know there's still a lotta folks from the great Reddit censorship era like myself (goodbye gendercritical and any lesbian subreddits) still trying to find like-minded people to connect with.

Hi, welcome back, glad to see you checking in! Our sub is pretty slow and sleepy these days, not surprising, that's how I found the original DTT so many years ago too. We ebb-and-flow, but we're persisting, and we're here for all of you whenever you want or need us.

Sounds like things are turning in a positive way for you, and I'm happy to hear that! We finally opened up s/LGB if you're interested in just having a place to chit-chat or share without all the Drop-The-T stuff.

Well, I guess I just felt like saying that I was glad to have this 3 years ago when I was still feeling alone and hadn't found my own GC support network yet. Now I have found "my people" so to speak, and I'm even in a relationship!

So, thank you mods and everyone else for giving past-me a place to vent and feel less crazy, it was important to me. I hope you are all doing well!

I think it's more about the porn than necessarily about the sexuality. We know that things like porn provide a neurotransmitter reward to the brain, but with repeated use of the same kind, the reward dwindles. The brain wants novelty. So these guys start to look at trans porn. And maybe these guys haven't tried man-on-man sex at all. It's just a fantasy to them. Or maybe this is a gradual way for men to discover their bisexuality.

Think of what Marsha P. Johnson said -- that he dressed in drag as a prostitute because it attracted more clients.

But AskGayBros is the wrong place to ask about stuff like that. There are a lot of guys on there for whom sexuality is purely binary. They have no patience with someone who's in a process of discovery. You're either gay or straight or maybe bi, but there's a contingent there that barely believes in bisexuality.

We also know that for many AGP transwomen, sissy porn has been a kind of gateway drug into their "becoming a woman."

I honestly thought that the mafia angle was pushed a bit too hard in the article. The real story of Rivera is how a narcissistic self-promoter's aims ended up dovetailing with the needs of people trying to push a particular identity politics narrative, resulting in Rivera's accomplishments getting amplified, while the work of others who did more is muted.

Of course they do this precisely because TQ+ folx know how valuable it is being able to parasitize the LGB movement and force it to do activism on its behalf and are afraid of losing their power and status as celebrated victims. If you allow people to acknowledge that LGB advocacy and goals are very different from TQ+ advocacy and goals, you lose the ability to claim that they should be lumped together.

It's all very tiring to have something as basic and observable as sexual orientation be lumped in with people who present with a host of personal identity issues and public sexual fetishism.

Magdalen Burns. Her videos have always been articulate and to the point, and you can feel her frustration and passion in responding to an attack on what lesbianism is by men who insist they can identify their way into it and demand unquestioning acceptance. Her death was nothing short of an extreme tragedy for the world.

I was surprised too. I suppose in hindsight it's not that surprising; the Mafia cares about money more than anything else and if taking advantage of vulnerable boys is profitable, it's no worse than the other crimes they're involved in, and the Mafia can keep them at arm's length to protect their image and claim any dealings are simply a matter of business...

All the relatively normal, average people with jobs who worked for Gay Rights . . . we're just not interesting enough.

Sadly happens all the time. Lots of people who do the "boring", behind the scenes work that's most important of all often don't get proper credit compared to the people who do relatively little but are clever at making themselves visible. It's pretty frustrating, and I'm not sure what the solution is.

That was actually really interesting in that I had no clue that the mafia was using gay underworld problems in NYC as a money making machine. It does make lots of sense but I'm still a bit surprised that the mafia was willing to have it's name on pedo magazines.

One thing I've learned over the last 30+ years about civil rights work is that the people who do the work and the people who claim to have done the work are often two quite different sets of people. For example, in college, I and three others co-founded the first public Gay & Lesbian organization on campus. We advertised our meetings, and a successor to that organization still exists (although now taken over by TQ+). I had my picture on the front of the school newspaper protesting ROTC's policy of kicking out students if they found out they were gay.

But when the school started doing an LGBT history project ten years ago, no one knew our names at all. All the paperwork related to us had been lost.

One thing that Sargeant fails to mention is the story that when Rivera learned that people like Duberman and Carter were rigorously researching Stonewall, he tried to get others who'd been there when it started to lie and say he'd been there -- because it was Rivera who'd gradually been inflating his own activist résumé over the intervening decades. He knew he'd be caught.

Rivera does deserve some credit for trying to help gay street kids, but, as Sargeant points out, it was a short-lived shit-show. And there were other people in the gay community helping street kids at the time who don't get any credit.

Add to that the fact that Rivera was obviously mentally-ill. He couldn't even take care of himself. Anyone who's seen any film footage of interviews with him should be able to suss that out pretty easily. All the relatively normal, average people with jobs who worked for Gay Rights . . . we're just not interesting enough.

But Rivera checks the right boxes, so the current generation will give him credit. It's the story they've been told is the right kind of story.

The older years only recorded crimes motivated by sexuality but they added gender later. And again i suspect that a large number of the gender bias incidents is actually homophobia. For example most violence against transgender people is related to prostitution. The guys committing those crimes are doing it because the MtF prostitute made them feel gay for a second.

I feel Kellie-Jay Keen is the best representative of my position on this debate at this point, but being a confrontational woman who doesn't mince words and is willing to call men fetishists openly is a turn off to the uninitiated, at least until they figure out she's just telling the truth.

Haha for real, and I'm hearing that James is a bit of a misogynist so him running with the Mulan bastardization makes even more sense because oh no, a woman character can't be more than the stereotypes lambasted onto them. Eugh. I'm just glad the original Mulan movie came out in the 90s because if it came out today, they would've totally made her trans-identified, like it would be revealed at the end of the movie.. .
