So, this is a middle-aged woman who is mostly heterosexual but tried to convince herself she was a lesbian for many years and now is trying to become a gay man (good luck)? I'm guessing she has deeper issues than this—seems intent on making her life harder than it needs to be, in any case.

There is something to be said about people who have no center and how they chase identities, "gender" being one of them.

I mean, I don't think about gender much as a core identity. I understand that many aspects of gender roles are indeed performative at some level; I also experience that conforming to these performance expectations makes my life substantially easier; and most importantly I understand that these "performances" don't take anything away from my core sense of self because that sense is based on something deeper than surface-level performance.

I really believe that the more spiritually centered you are, the less important these performance-based "roles" really are. That doesn't mean we all have to conform to them, but to the extent that it makes your life easier in the long run it's often a good idea.

If you look a little further into the post history, she is apparently a woman who's not conventionally attractive and, thus, hates her body. It doesn't take Dr. Freud to figure out that her desire to be male is an escapist fantasy.

I'd guess so, yeah. I'm guessing she can't imagine an equal partnership between a man and woman either, seeing as she hasn't dated men, in spite of her preference for them, and seems to think the only way she could be with a man is as a man. Whatever it is for her, she'd probably benefit more from some therapy to work through her issues than to transition and fruitlessly try to date gay men

Honestly, the people saying it's transphobic to not date a trans guy don't annoy me half as much as the guys going "Yes I'm 100% homosexual but I'm TOTALLY into pre-op trans men with vaginas!". The active/activist mod is kazarnowicz, from Sweden. He made a big announcement earlier this year around the time of the bans on reddit about how anyone expressing what he considered transphobic thoughts on AGBOver30 would be banned, and you can see from his recent post history that he's been policing people's language very strictly and banning them. Basically, he bans anyone whose tone he doesn't like on any topic.
