What Bolt fails to recognize is that lesbians are oppressed at least twice over, on the basis of our sex and sexuality [..] Around the world, lesbians continue to be at risk of discrimination and violence [..] In multiple countries, being lesbian or gay is actively criminalized. Some states even punish homosexuality by death.

I was with the author until this. Lesbians don't face anywhere near the level of violence and discrimination that gay men do. I know it's not a competition but there's clearly an agenda from the author. And I couldn't help but notice that she talks about discrimination against gays and lesbians, but then carefully avoids admitting that only male homosexuality is punishable by death in countries that have laws prohibiting it.

Some states even punish homosexuality by death. This all happens as backlash against lesbians saying no to males.

Really?

Traumatised employees living in fear as BBC expected to quit Stonewall’s Diversity Programme by Chunkeeguy in LGBDropTheT

What a great article. Tons of (conveniently anonymous and vague) accusations about the BBC’s supposedly rampant transphobia, plus not a single mention of why Stonewall has attracted controversy recently.

Stonewall has received a huge backlash in some sections of the UK media because of its vocal support for trans rights, and other organisations have withdrawn from the diversity scheme this year

No, Stonewall received backlash because they were accused of interpreting the equality act in their own way and giving inaccurate advice, which caused a bunch of companies who paid Stonewall to give them advice to question the charity’s value.

There's definitely an element of that. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't entirely them; but it's a world they helped create. Growing up I was always told it was sexist to suggest that men were better than women at anything. Children's shows and cartoons would frequently use the ”boy thinks girl can't do something sporty, girl ends up being better than him at it” trope. We all knew that it wasn't quite true, but this is what was spearheaded by some feminists and we were told to shut our mouths and stop being misogynistic for questioning it.

Again I’m not saying feminists are completely responsible, and I’m aware that the are different (conflicting) strands of the movement, but the commenters telling you feminism had no part in this are just wrong.

(In response to someone asking why people "get upset when the importance of black queer and trans people are mentioned) Because I think it’s a disservice to the history of the LGBT community to credit these individuals for the work being done by thousands of activists since the 19th century. Look at how many people here lay praise at their feet, but how many people know of Magnus hirschfeld https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_Hirschfeld History shouldn’t be about supporting those who feel good about today, but all of those have fought, are fighting and died to give us the freedoms we benefit. By no means should ignore these people, or not celebrate them for their actions, but this feels like American whitewashing of our history, of lgbt history. Literally the day before the riots, Canada had decriminalized homosexuality. George klippert spent 3 years in jail to give us the freedom to be ourselves here. Why do you think so many lgbt people were out celebrating that night? We had just won a major fight in our freedom. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Klippert So why are people upset? Because we’re making other heroes invisible. We’re taking from them their history, their accomplishments, their pain and suffering. You answered your own question, the dislike of of excluding these voices is the same dislike people have for excluding others who played roles across the world.

At the moment I think this is a bit of a weak narrative. For all the positives about this sub, it does have its fair share of hysteria and panic about this topic. From what I've seen, the extent of the mainstream LGBT community's "acceptance" of paedophiles is "They should never act on their attractions, but also shouldn't be stigmatised for something they can't control." And I see nothing wrong with that sentiment.

Outside of scandals like Aimee (and I see that more as a reflection of Reddit's questionable values more than anything else) I really don't see where this "the LGBT+ community now welcomes pedos!" narrative is coming from. At best it's an extremely fringe subset of the community that sees widespread backlash when they make their intentions known.

I'm open to discussion though.

The truth about 'trans kids' is that they're the victims of socially legitimated Munchausen's-By-Proxy. This is truly horrific. by Uranian in LGBDropTheT

[–]ThiccDropkick 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

These kids are being taught ridiculous ideas about gender. Like how many of you guys can honestly say that you feel like a man or woman? To me that concept has never crossed my mind. And what does it even mean to feel like a boy/girl anyway?

These kids would be getting their ideas about what it means to be either from the world around them, so they'll be associating gender stereotypes with being a boy/girl and if they don't conform to them, they'll start questioning themselves.

I don't even think the parents are completely to blame. Most of them would reassure their kids that they're fine in the body they have - except now trans activists are telling them they're horrible people if they don't encourage kids to feel wrong in their bodies.

I know there are good trans people out there and it’s not fair to demonise them, but that doesn’t change the fact that every. single. fucking. time a subreddit gets a majority-trans mod team, they ruin the community’s spirit, ban all discussion that upsets them and turn it into yet another circlejerk about how ‘valid’ and magical they think they are.

Male fragility. Men feel entitled to accommodations in general. They're twice as bad if they're white since there's also white fragility

The fact that you think these are characteristics only pertaining to a single demographic just shows how deluded you've become. Entitlement? Fragility? Just as common in women and poc than evil WHITE MEN™ bud. If not more.

What do you and white trans women have in common? White male fragility.

I would ask where I've demonstrated white male fragility, but experience with your type tells me it'll just lead us down an endless back and forth of you dodging the question while telling me how 'priviledged' I am, despite not knowing me.

You're worse than TRAs who believe white ass manly "trans women" are oppressed/marginalized (...) White male fragility.

So if it's a white male thing, then how do you explain trans men doing it? Women aren't marginalised or oppressed in the west. Is that female fragility? Or do you just prefer to sweep all that under the rug so you can keep telling yourself the evil scary men are causing all your problems?

When my teacher recently kept saying "men" when she was talking about penises and vice versa I corrected her in the private chat, but she just said "the district doesn't let us talk about that" and "thank you for private messaging me"

Is it really that big of a problem to use terms that apply perfectly to 99.6% of the population? There's no confusion, you know exactly what the teacher meant.

[–]ThiccDropkick 24 insightful - 2 fun24 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

They really do just piggyback on the gay movement. In one of the first lessons of sex ed I had in middle school we were told that when we hit puberty we might find ourselves attracted to the same sex instead of the opposite, and that it was totally fine. Later on we were reminded that gay men were more at risk than anyone else of contracting HIV so we'd need to be more careful. This is stuff we should be taught.

But trans issues and gender identities are different. Imagine taking a group of kids who are beginning to go through puberty, still figuring out who they are, and telling them that if they don't feel right in their body or don't conform to gender stereotypes, then they might not be a real boy or girl after all and could be trans. The teacher wouldn't even be able to define what it means to feel like a boy/girl, but would still have to teach it.

This is what makes me mad whenever homosexuality and trans issues are lumped together. No, genuine concerns about transing children are not jUsT rEdReSsEd HoMoPhObIa and teaching kids that it's ok to be gay is not the same thing as telling them they might be living in the wrong body.

But then also 'Let's shit on all these other types of women who aren't as radically feminist as we are!' which is... well... I didn't sign up for any of this, really... Like there'd be people raging on there about how women are gender-traitors for putting on lipstick or shaving their armpits

This is pretty much why, even though I label my views as gender critical, I just can't associate with the GC crowd on Reddit or even here. So many radfems/gender critical types are just as pathetic as the TRA's and ones who aren't are so busy stringing together excuses for why each other's hatred is fine and justified, the toxic attitudes are never called out.
