That last comment about preferring swords is homophobic as hell.

Are you talking about the "sword lesbian" meme that "queer" people came up with? I've always felt weird about it.

Sword is also a euphemism for dick.

Oh damn I missed that sword reference too!

Also...I looked up sword lesbian and found Thirsty Sword Lesbians, created by "queer" people and has "queer" characters and TWAW characters, with the main creator of April1 Kit2 Walsh3 who goes by "she/her" pronouns...

Ok, even if TERFs were in the wrong. If you're a lesbian and this is a lesbian flag, then this is your flag, right? Don't they always say that you can't decide someone's identity for them? Don't they always say the person knows their own identity and you can't question it? Don't they always say that someone's identity is valid even if they are a bad person? I'm sure that they wouldn't say Buck Angel isn't trans even though they've turned Buck into an enemy.

But interestingly this only works for TQ+ identities. If you're a lesbian using a lesbian flag, you have to prove you're on their side, otherwise you can't use your flag. Another thing they often say is that users of subs like LGBDropTheT are all actually straight people. When we disagree with them, suddenly they can assume we aren't LGB, suddenly they can decide our identities...

Anyone with more knowledge than me want to give a rundown of the labrys flag history?

Hello! I'll post that in a second here for the L lol. It's rather long...I had an LGB Flag Analysis, but it got removed.

In the meantime, here's the Bisexual Flag Analysis.

Edit: Luckily the LGB Analysis post text is saved on my end! But when I logout, it shows as removed. I copied & pasted my original comment and posted it here in this thread.

Edit 2: The LGB Analysis link should work now!! It was accidentally filtered in the spam lol.

Lipstick Lesbian Flag

This flag is commonly used as “the lesbian flag” however it was originally created as the lipstick/femme flag and later edited to remove the lipstick mark, as a result of this many lesbians feel it isn‘t completely representative. There have also been issues with the creator of the flag who was found to have made bigoted comments against Bi, Trans, Butch and Asian women on her blog, This Lesbian Life

New Orange & Pink flag This flag is the new most commonly used flag. The orange encompasses butch lesbians and the pink for femmes, while the white encompasses trans lesbians.

A new lesbian flag modeled after the seven-band "pink" flag was introduced on Tumblr in 2018, with colors dark orange representing 'gender non-conformity', orange for 'independence', light orange for 'community', white for 'unique relationships to womanhood', pink for 'serenity and peace', dusty pink for 'love and sex', and dark rose for 'femininity'. A five-stripes version was soon derived from the 2018 colors.

NOTE: In order to access the "This Lesbian Life" link, you will need to create or have a wordpress account. If someone has one, could you please copy & paste the author's article? I am curious to hear about The LGBT Project Wiki's claims that the author was supposedly "bigoted" towards Bi, Trans, Butch, and Asian women.

The "pink" lesbian flag consists of six shades of red and pink colors with a white bar in the center.[10][11] The design is derived from the lipstick lesbian flag, which includes a red kiss[11] and was introduced in the weblog This Lesbian Life in 2010.[10][12] The lipstick lesbian flag represents "homosexual women who have a more feminine gender expression"[13] and has not been widely adopted;[1] however, its non-kiss pink variant attracted more use.

Wikia: LGBT Project Wiki -Lesbian Flag {labrys flag}

This flag isn’t as common as the lipstick lesbian flag but many people don’t like it for a few reasons, including: it uses nazi imagery (the black triangle although the point of including it was to reclaim the symbol), it’s popular with transphobic radical feminists (sometimes referred to as TERFs) and it was created by a man, as opposed to a lesbian

NOTE: TERF = Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist

Wikipedia: Lesbian Flag{labrys flag}

No flag design for a lesbian pride flag has been widely adopted.

The labrys lesbian flag was created in 1999 by graphic designer Sean Campbell, and published in June 2000 in the Palm Springs edition of the Gay and Lesbian Times Pride issue.[1][2] The design involves a labrys, a type of double-headed axe, superimposed on the inverted black triangle, set against a violet background. Among its functions, the labrys was associated as a weapon used by the Amazons of mythology.[3][4] In the 1970s it was adopted as a symbol of empowerment by the lesbian feminist community.[5][6] Women considered asocial by the Third Reich because they did not conform to the Nazi ideal of a woman, which included homosexual females, were condemned to concentration camps[7] and wore an inverted black triangle badge to identify them.[8] Some lesbians reclaimed this symbol as gay men reclaimed the pink triangle (many lesbians also reclaimed the pink triangle although lesbians were not included in Paragraph 175 of the German criminal code).[8] The color violet became associated with lesbians via the poetry of Sappho.[9]

Wikipedia: Labrys

Social movement

In feminist interpretations, the labrys is a symbol of matriarchy.[21][e][22]

In Kyrgyzstan, "Labrys" is an LGBT rights organization. The group's goal is to improve the quality of life for all LGBT individuals in their country as well as Central Asia.[23]

Similarly, "Labrisz" is an association in Hungary for lesbian and bisexual women. Lesbian symbol Labrys lesbian flag

In the 1970s, the labrys was adopted by the lesbian community as a lesbian feminist symbol representing strength and self-sufficiency.[24][25][26][27][28] The labrys lesbian flag, created in 1999,[29] involves a labrys superimposed on the inverted black triangle and set against a violet background.

Oh my god. Those are some HUGE differences between sources, what the fuck.

There is a WORLD of difference between a triangle being used by Nazis to mark lesbian concentration camp prisoners against their will, and it being a symbol for Nazism. WTF.

Thank you for sharing. Jesus christ. Misinformation is what we get when people do not learn critical thinking skills in school. I don't know about other countries, but it's sorely fucking lacking in America. Wow.

Yeah, it's disengenuous on their part claiming that it's a "Nazi" Lesbian flag--if it were, it would have a swatztika.

Here's more of an explanation:

In 1999, gay graphic designer, Sean Campbell created one of the first lesbian flags. It contains an inverted black triangle that repurposes a Nazi symbol used during World War ll. Under the Nazi regime, women who did not conform to Nazi ideals would be sent to concentration camps and marked with an upside down black triangle badge for identification and men would be forced to wear the same in pink.

So basically, those fools don't understand that the point of the symbol is rebellion and not conforming to Nazi ideals. I guess the TRAs hate that, because they're so good at conforming(ex. Misogynistic/Misandristic stereotypes) to what society says lol.

wow, in the 80s/90s the pink triangle was the primary symbol for the gay movement, bigger than the rainbow flag - I assumed it wasn't used as much these days due to a shift toward celebration from provocative activism, but I'd hope people still understand the reference...

This is awesome, thank you! :D

It's funny cuz the transgender people already HAVE their own flag but they always want to be included in EVERYONE else's stuff. They should let lesbian women have their flag...why do they need to take others?

Though on the flip-side: I was reading up on the gay man blue flag, and TRAs deemed it transphobic and made by TEHMs(Trans Exclusive Homosexual Men), so they don't like it. Lol idk why they want the lesbian women one but angry at the gay men one.
