I knew it would be. I'm kind of sad, even though I knew it was inevitable.

It was really a sweet, wholesome sub. So many of those straight dudebros were openly showing solidarity with the LGB community.

It was crazy diverse over there and unironically wholesome

I even saw a few guys who said they were conservative vow to stand with lesbians.

It really shows how well we'd be getting along if those certain crazy people were out of the picture and people weren't getting banned for being a woman or gay or caring about rape. Makes you think

“What are you talking about? It was 100% neo nazi straight white men. They killed gays and lesbians!”

-TRA’s now that the sub is banned and it’s harder to fact check them

This is the thing that irritates me most. They control the narrative around the subreddit now, and nobody can post any evidence to the contrary.

Edit: The SubredditDrama thread is full of exactly this kind of bullshit.

Their discord was full of anime kiddy porn! I saw it with my own eyes!

Banning the sub is only going to make men angry. Women, and to some extent gay men too, have been silenced about how harmful some types of trans activism are to women and gay rights, but now trans activists have put straight men in their sights and that has awakened a sleeping giant.

Let's hope for the Streisand Effect.

[–][deleted] 39 insightful - 1 fun39 insightful - 0 fun40 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

For as little time as that sub was around, it opened a lot of people's eyes to the kind of abuse we've been getting from the TRAs. Some people were straight-up pissed about it. And it had 30,000 members. That's why they had to shut it down. 30,000 more people are aware of what's been going on.

More than 30K - there were probably 100K at least lurkers.

But also Twitter - I saw Superstraight/ Super LGB Tweets in other languages so the Super movement was to some extent global.

You read my mind - that was exactly the quote that I was thinking about.

For all you young ones, this quote was what the Japanese Admiral is alleged to have said after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, which got the US into WW II. The US was the "sleeping giant."

Did you ever see the film "Tora, Tora, Tora"?

Bardfinn and AHS mods were sending Reddit lies about SuperStraights being linked to Nazis ("SS"). I doubt that the Asian-American who coined SuperStraight is a Nazi though. Reddit needs to investigate what's reported to them. Moderators in general are notorious for taking shit out of context.

Bardfinn is calling everything nazi's and for some reason Reddit and Facebook are believing him. While what they really should do is to check his HDD, as he spams with child pornography into subreddits to report those posts and make those subs banned.

It wouldn’t matter anyway because transmarxist mods are out of control on Reddit. They always get their way in the end.

I’m sure this will help the perception of TRAs as being anything other than fragile, screeching lunatics. Fuck Reddit for caving in to them.

All they can do is whine, cry, get subs banned & in the real world, natal born males & females are going to continue to date, marry, & have sex, based on SEXUAL orientation. Nothing they or Reddit can do about that.

Just saying that reddit doesn't want rape stories to come forward about transpeople get the # "reddit is defending rapists" get that trending. I am fucking tired I've reddit defending really fucked up people who are rapist, sexualising rape and glorifying it. They also protect maps!

Is there any possibility of creating a Super Straight website ala Ovarit?

No, I don't mean to make them apart of Ovarit. I mean to make them their own thing, but in the same style. Ovarit is for women and women's issues and they're by invitation only.

I'm being a bit cynical, but I feel this is more of a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' situation. Would we have had this support if they hadn't been targeted, if there wasn't a common enemy/threat?

[–]ArthnoldManacatsaman🇬🇧🌳🟦 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think you are right to be cynical in the way that you are. This sort of shit has been going on for a number of years, but anybody who raised the alarm was cancelled. It's definitely an out of sight, out of mind kind of deal.

I'll admit that I was part of the problem until about a year ago and, wrongly, assumed that my lesbian friend just 'had a thing' about trans people. When people were threatening to rape JK Rowling and I told her how awful I thought that was, her withering response taught me that this has been par for the course for a lot of women for some time now.

It's the same thing here. There were certainly a large number of posts or comments in SuperStraight from straight people who were either genuinely unaware that this kind of thing goes on (and for the casual, heterosexual Redditor living outside a major liberal city, why would they?) or knew that it had gone on but, like me, thought LGB people were just exaggerating and turned a blind eye.

So, yes, very much a shame that it took this long to peak so many people, but let's be glad that it did.

[–]chupacabrawitchI'm super thanks for asking 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I feel the same 100%, there's a bit of resentment here because I feel lesbian women especially have been ignored for years ongoing, but maybe by cracking the door open a little bit, I think we have found an ally in super straight. I give them the benefit of the doubt because many are just generally unaware....when I've told my straight friends they are actually surprised of all the in fighting and crazy that goes on within the lgbt community, but I think there's so much of it visible now online that they've sided with us because now it's not just happening in our little circle. Still cynical... But I am a bit relieved in that now the super straight being banned has made waves in other places that are questioning the crazy. I think I'll delete my reddit account now.

I think I'll delete my reddit account now.

I'm with you on this one. I wanted to see if any posts from Superstraight had appeared on the home page (or /all or whatever it is) and I was just reminded of how stupid the rest of Reddit was.

Star Wars memes that I don't get, so don't find funny.

Every other post is WallStreetBets. Don't care.

Every UK-centred subreddit is having a circlejerk about who can care the least about Harry and Meghan.

Just... bleurgh. No. Over it.

A coordinated effort by the media to discredit superstraight just went off all at once. Here's a story from Yahoo Sports.

https://sports.yahoo.com/social-media-trend-people-identifying-190232045.html

Over the next two weeks, the super-straight video started to spread on social media, eventually hitting the /pol board of 4chan, known for being a home to far-right trolls, and growing from there. The board members discussed creating and sharing memes about being super straight to "drive a wedge" within LGBTQ communities and "use the left's tactics against themselves, call them bigots for not accepting super straights," according to several posts and deleted threads shared on Twitter. The posts also directly linked the abbreviation for super straight to the Nazi SS.

That's the story they're pushing, and that's the story normies are going to hear. They're stomping this one in the bud. A month from now nobody will remember what superstraight meant. They learned well the lessons of 2016 about letting the people speak amongst themselves without supervision.

Literally 1984.

[–]c3ll02 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wouldn't be that negative. 30 000 people most likely peaked because of this. Things don't change rapidly. That doesn't mean that don't change at all, ever.

As for me, the banvawe was the last straw. I became an activist for LGB and women's rights.

A lot of people learned the truth because of this. Trying to crush it only causes it propagate further, more quickly.

This just proves that there are a lot of people out there who live in the real world who see the hateful GI movement for what it is. And that's a thought we should all be taking comfort in.

[–]Uranian 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, that was predictable - can't go having people asserting their sexual boundaries, can we? It upsets the blue-fringe and avatar anime community who are THE MOST OPPRESSED PEOPLE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND. Literally millions of trans babies are being literally killed by me merely stating that I don't find women with double mastectomies sexually attractive LITERALLY
