Someone said this and I always wonder where people are able to totally avoid the queer bullshit in real life. We drive down town and what was supposed to be murals for the black community has way too many trans ones to ignore. I did feel that way, actually. When I first came out 5 years ago and all of this queer shit was really gaining steam, I felt judged and inadequate because I don't "look gay." For me it was easy to fall into that insecurity because I don't have any lesbian or gay friends so I sought out LGBT forums online and we all know how AL is.

After a year or two that feeling went away after I realized that the idea of having to "look gay" came from teenagers/young adults, the internet, and straight people who feel boring. I'm a lesbian simply because I am and not because of how I look or how I talk or how many rainbow items I own or anything insignificant like that.

I think the concept of identifying into a group to make yourself seem less mainstream/majority or to make others perceive you as "less boring" is definitely a thing.

I've watched this slowly over the years with one of friends who I've distanced myself from because of her bullshit antics. She's a straight, middle class, white girl.
