I dug around to try and find you an article and I can't find one that has a good summary. I'll link if I do later. Some arguments I anticipate them using:

Biological sex is immutable, and the sexes are not interchangeable.
Redefining words does not change the substance of what is being defined (for instance, a definition of marriage is "a union of opposites") they'll use "what is a woman?" for this.
One group's rights should not be established at the expense of another group's rights.
The state has an obligation to protect a child's well being that applies to gay marriage and adoption (they'll draw from activism against transgender grooming for this)
The state cannot force speech or force a credence.

Yeah, he started off during "The Great Evangelization" which was a Pope Benedict push to have Catholics promote their faith online. When Francis was elected he moved into anti-abortion activism, and now into gender criticism.

I don't think y'all realize how aware conservatives are of gender critical feminism and the arguments it makes. Not because they agree with it, but just because they have access to a broader range of information than liberals do . Your average Republican could list off a few feminist arguments against gender identity (without realizing where they come from.)

Yeah, no. I use Twitter and there's already been a significant improvement in the site function. I never had a blue check, so worries about that aren't my problem. They are noticeably censoring much less and the general mood on the site has lightened a great deal.

Synthia China Blast (or whatever his name is) got released from prison a couple days ago and immediately jumped on Twitter to complain about feminists. He rightly was excoriated and I could feel a sense of healing. Nature is finding its balance again.

I don't hate Elon Musk, he seems fine. I never hated Jack Dorsey either. Elon runs Twitter better than Jack did.

It will forever irk me that crazy Bev Jackson gives interviews on behalf on the LGB Alliance. Her politics are an incoherent mess and she hates bisexual women to the point that it's a prejudice.

She also is too old to be dealing with issues involving modern media. She correctly notes that the CNN writer she is critiquing works the "identity and misinformation in Europe" beat. Does she understand what that means or what this chick's actual purpose being employed by CNN is? Doesn't seem that way.

Telling mainstream media reporters that they are incorrectly framing a major narrative in a competing alternative publication is a very 80s approach to combatting media bias. Alternative newspapers are no longer culturally relevant, except for classifieds and music listings.

The chick is a paid propagandist who knows she's wrong and will never change what she writes. Bev has been blogging about this for more than ten years.

She should know better and this was annoying to read.

There's a gay writer for the Federalist named Chad Felix Greene that a lot of people suspected was active on RightwingLGBT on Reddit back when the Reddit sub was still going.

They had another gay writer whose name I've forgotten who borrowed talking points from that sub and posted his own work. Brian, maybe?

The Federalist is Republican current events magazine (one of the major ones.) Their awareness of our existence on Reddit probably came from their gay writers.

I find it really bizarre to read an article by a lesbian where she repeatedly refers to herself as "same-sex attracted." Back when I was a feminist a decade ago I got ripped a new asshole repeatedly for calling myself gay or using gay in way which insinuated I was including bisexual people.

I was ordered to refer to myself as "same-sex attracted" and when I pointed out that that was the same terminology used by homophobic Christians I essentially got told to shut up and go fuck myself 😂

This girl has absorbed so much homophobia in her life that she's obviously tried to transition in order to escape same sex attraction. Now she's still same sex attracted and she still feels like she's doing something wrong.

This isn't a logical flaw or a misunderstanding of homosexuality, it's just plain old mental illness. What she need is some acceptance and encouragement that it's ok to be gay.

Most gay marriage opponents see it as an infringement of their rights or a risk to their rights, whereas gay sex is seen by these same people as something private that doesn't involve them.

There are obviously Christians who would support it, but my guess would be not even a third of the amount of people who would vote against gay marriage.

During the referendum, there were gay marriage supporters who called opponents and people who were on the fence homophobic, and some of these supporters even took down signs that they did not like. This angered a lot of reasonable gay marriage supporters, who threatened to vote no if that behaviour continued, so campaigners of the yes side began disavowing the charlatans.

This was so wise, it's likely why they won. To put it mildly, this is not the way our version of the Yes campaign went about things. They had a very totalitarian, puritanical witch-hunt approach which has now taken over the entire left. Lol at RTÉ feigning neutrality. Our paltry version of that is NPR and it's like listening to psychological programming at a woke reeducation camp.

In America, there should be a contingency plan in case Obergefell is overturned. Personally, given that marriage is devolved to the states in America, it should have been decided by the states. Almost all Americans now would support civil unions at the very least. Hopefully if Obergefell is overturned, most states would choose to keep gay marriage legal.

As these things go, it's a process that takes several years because it involves court cases that have to make it through a couple of rounds of trials before they reach the national court (the Supreme Court.) The current court as it stands will overturn Obergefell and a couple of Justices have made public statements that they intend to. The majority opinion on Obergefell argued that couples have a "right to dignity" guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. That's difficult to prove.

Honestly, after ten years of arguing against gender theory, gay marriage as a concept is going to be too vulnerable to the same counterarguments that gender identity is. It is guaranteed to lose vote after vote.

Civil unions fulfill the same functional purpose without all of the philosophical baggage. You can get homophobic people to vote for civil unions out of tolerance or a desire to increase economic stability. I think at some point someone will take some political leadership and start mounting campaigns for civil unions in the U.S.. Probably beginning in the interior of the country. I'm a little nobody but I've certainly volunteered in elections many times and I intend to show up for these campaigns with bells on. It's the future.

Ireland and the U.S. have a lot of profound differences, the different approach to social progress being probably the biggest (at least that I know about.) Irish people seem to appreciate a give-and-take more and to be able to reach consensus naturally without as much formal debate. We have to treat everything like a philosophical proposition and we aren't necessarily good at doing that, either 😬

I do need to point out, when I said vitriolic and brutal I meant to pro-gay marriage side. It started within the community and moved outward toward political enemies. I was a teenager heading into college during the gay marriage campaign and, although I was a few years late to have experienced the gay community before, I watched it collapse. I had originally written a massive multi-paragraph explanation of the social changes I witnessed, but I think that's a unnecessary level of detail so I'll spare you 😉

The gay marriage campaign brought with it the isolation and lack of support services that we still see for same-sex attracted people in the U.S. This is another profound difference between you and us- Ireland has government social services that are much more detailed and are easier to access, whereas the onus is on us to take care of our own here. We don't do that.

Fundamentally, there is so much bad blood and so many burned bridges due to the gay marriage fight in the U.S. that once Obergefell is overturned, most of the country isn't going to care.

It also needs to be said that most of the arguments against gender identity that we've rehearsed here and in other places for the past decade can be persuasively used against gay marriage as a concept. Conservatives can and will do this.

I'm planning on campaigning for civil unions because I think even in the most benighted parts of the country you can get it legislated. Live by court cases, die by court cases. You'll never have security or stability until you have some sort of consensus, even from people who hate you, that your relationship deserves institutional support.

Gay Republicans are going to be the ones who actually address this problem and find solutions. I'm not looking for leadership from the same people who got us into this mess to begin with.

I feel the same way. Republican homophobia is usually much easier to deal with than Democratic (meaning the party.) If a Republican is hostile to you it's usually either based on wholesale ignorance or on a belief that we're amoral or immoral in some way. If you can demonstrate that you value and respect them, that you have humanistic beliefs, they'll usually calm down and cooperate with you.

The gay marriage fight was vitriolic and brutal in the U.S. and it left a lot of open wounds that go unacknowledged. There is a tendency among people who were on the receiving end of the vitriol to fixate on it. Ireland is the only nation I'm aware that voted for gay marriage- in the U.S. it was decreed by the Supreme Court.

What will end up happening in the next few years is that court decision will be overturned and we'll have to campaign state by state all over again and actually persuade and compromise with other people this time.

I think in twenty years or so we'll end up with civil unions as the institution nationally and a few states which refer to civil unions as marriages.

It brings in more money, attention, and potential voter support if you're known outside your state. For instance, there's a perennial Democratic candidate in Texas named Beto O'Rourke who isn't popular within that actual state but has a high profile nationally. He gets showered with so much attention by the media and he brings in so many volunteers from other places and funding, he'll be running for office forever in TX and never winning.

In smaller states it's not really needed but California is so large you essentially require a national effort in order to have your candidate win.

The GOP ended up running Larry Elder, who is a popular conservative talk radio host in Cali but not known outside the state.

Well, I think we all need to sit and think a little about why we're here and what we want from this forum.

The original purpose of both this site and the reddit sub was to allow for political organization. We have repeatedly decided as a group that we want this to be a social forum instead.... so in my opinion we should be fostering that aspect.

I have always complained about the amount of cruelty and denigration that goes on here toward social media users on other sites. You don't need to "vent" four times a day every day. Think of the humanity of the people you're talking about (and also talking to) when you comment.

We need to find something else to talk about. Get personalities, people.

It's not a normal reaction, it's an unreasonable reaction. She also kept it up after it was clear that I wasn't making a generalization and was sincerely asking the question. I also said the same in the OP, which she missed, but maybe she misread.

I also don't think if you, Elvira, made me angry and I proceeded to address you as "my dear lesbian" and make snappy remarks and ask you "satisfied, lesbian?" that you would think I was justified in speaking to you that way. You would think that I was deeply prejudiced and would 1. expect me to apologize and 2. expect other bisexuals to correct me for being so vicious to you.

She also thought it was acceptable to laugh at me being sexually assaulted, what's your excuse for that?

Tell her she's being overly emotional, tell her she's misunderstanding. I'm not being unreasonable demanding respectful treatment.
