Transgender Identity Is Associated With Bullying Involvement Among Finnish Adolescents - PubMed by jet199 in TumblrInAction

[–]Q-Continuum-kin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Results: Both experiences of being bullied and perpetrating bullying were more commonly reported by transgender youth than by cisgender youth. Among transgender youth, all involvement in bullying was more commonly reported by non-binary youth than those identifying with the opposite sex. Logistic regression revealed that non-binary identity was most strongly associated with involvement in bullying, followed by opposite sex identity and cisgender identity. Transgender identities were also more strongly associated with perpetration of bullying than subjection to bullying.

Read that last bit again and the pause for the conclusion the author is about to make.

Conclusion: Transgender identity, especially non-binary identity, is associated with both being bullied and perpetrating bullying even when a range of variables including internal stress and involvement in bullying in the opposite role are taken into account. This suggests that bullying during adolescence may serve as a mechanism of maintaining heteronormativity.

Yes sure, bullying was invented to maintain heteronormativity. THAT'S THE FUCKING CONCLUSION YOU COME TO?

I'm surprised that a Budweiser linked company would still be willing to be seen attending a seminar like this.

workplaces should recognise an employee’s ‘chosen gender’ at work so it can act as a box to be ticked if that individual presents at a gender clinic. This is dangerous. Employers should not be used, willingly or unwillingly, towards determining ‘healthcare’ that their employees will receive, particularly when such healthcare comes with the risks that cross-sex hormones and sex re-assignment surgery have.

I'm going to start looking out for this idea of tautological capture. I know it's everywhere but good to make mental notes when seen.

I think I'm describing something different. I often find TRAs use these particular incidents to support the "science is settled" narrative. Yes that's a sort of Overton window but it's important to HR departments when they are faced with some anthropology society making statements like this so it loops.

I'm going to invent a term here. Not sure if it's been used before but... Scientific and medical organizations are experiencing tautological capture. For anyone who has seen Idiocracy, it's exactly like the electrolytes conversion just here you have a politically correct position formed that "trans" is a marginalized community and needs special privileges. You get autistic screeching aimed at some marginal organization until they get nervous of offending HR somewhere and they change a definition. TRAs then point at the change in definition as proof that their bullshit is real and the next organization experiences autistic screeching while being pointed to the previous definition change until they flip and so on and so on.

The problem is that there is no starting point to the change in decisions other than "the science is settled". Why is the science settled? Because this organization said so. Why did they say so? Because the science is settled.

My perception of this is that unnatural colors give a perception of detaching the person from nature. This is especially true for blue hair because it's so detached from appearing human or natural. It's perhaps a subconscious thing and somewhat related to how i observe "coming out" as gay vs as trans. Coming out as gay usually involves some kind of acceptance of yourself as you are where "coming out" as trans involves a full rejection of yourself as you are in place of an imagined avatar in your mind. It's almost a full rejection of biology and humanity itself. So many of them dive in with the very unflattering decorations on their body and I think it is like a full rejection of a human image so as to obscure their actual sex because they realize that they can't trick people into seeing them as the opposite sex. The unnatural colors are like a way to cope with an inability to force your human body to match the imagined avatar.

Just a bit of a theory.

This made me realize that I saw a documentary on these guys (the twins) when I was a kid. I think I was a teenager, perhaps in high school or younger. I seem to have this memory of being in the 90s watching TV with my mum in the family room and this documentary was on going over this dramatic situation where they phrased it as if it was a pure medical accident at birth. One twin was raised as a girl but nature was too strong. They didn't talk about any particular doctor, it was just about the life story of the twins and this would have been before he died I think. I wonder if this documentary primed me to be ready to be skeptical of the entire trans dogma later on. At first I just accepted everything they said but several instances over time peaked me to stop and be like wtf? The it becomes a rabbit hole where the more you look into it the more crazy it becomes. There's this issue with John Money being a pedo and inventing the social justification for a gendered soul that overrides the body. Then there's the Dr who got GID (gender identity disorder) removed from the DSM5 turning out to secretly belong to some weird pedo fetish community. Removing GID from the DSM5 created the medical justification to start using actual medical intervention and practically criminalizing people who wanted to do talk therapy.

That's a good point about pharma but it only explains the public advertising part. The oldest argument I can remember was around 2000-2005 with some self described HIV advocate who argued against the concept of criminally charging people who knowingly have HIV but hide it from partners. I thought it was going to be "criminalization is too much" but nooo that person went all the way to the person should never need to tell anyone.

The argument was that requiring disclosure of HIV status would cause people to stop getting tested because they could get away with plausible deniability of not knowing since the criminality was centered around knowingly transmitting.

Most people who don't know about trans dogma actually do this. Like if you find a normie out there who doesn't really have an opinion on transgender people and has not had the dogma pushed onto him already, ask him to describe a transman and he will likely think "a man who is transgender ie a man who wants to transition to a woman." Only in this TRA echo chamber is the idea tossed around that the terms man and woman are derived from some nugget of extradimensional existence apart from the body.

I had a similar issue with being a science major in my last year. (Not obnoxious queer types but obnoxious lazy types). It's because my course load is so prerequisite heavy that it's almost impossible to take all the gen ed classes before the senior year. I asked around and found an English teacher who was some hippie ex-burnout who would make the class easy. All you had to do was pay attention and participate in her class and she would make the class easy.

The students were mostly art and gen ed majors and they were always bitching about the class and the teacher. This was the easiest and most chillaxed class I had taken at school. The teacher was 5 minutes late once and that one corner of students is trying to organize a full walkout "if we all leave she can't say anything". I just shut it down instantly saying i wasn't leaving since I need the class to finish my GenEd requirements. The look on her face was funny as hell.

Which wasn't a bad idea in and of itself but it was massively short sighted and showed no thought had been given to the most obvious economic outcomes. Which has resulted in most families needing to do at least double the amount of work outside the home for a lower standard of living.

The thing no one ever thinks about is the negative economic outcome at a societal level. At the individual level giving women the freedom to leave the house and survive without being forced to marry is great but at scale we basically flipped a switch and doubled the number of available workers. This has secretly been terrible for labor because the supply of workers is now so high that corporations can operate in such a way that they knowingly work their employees into the ground because it's far cheaper to just abuse them until they quit. I have a ton of downstream examples of what this has done to the power dynamic between labor and capital but i think we can all imagine the far reaching scenarios.

Why do you put quotes around things which aren't quotes? It goes to prove your arguments are in bad faith.

Which one of those definitions said a "vague wishy-washy kinda-sorta feeling of a word"

Neither because neither defines the fucking thing you keep saying it does, holy shit.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_sense

In linguistics, a word sense is one of the meanings of a word. For example, a dictionary may have over 50 different senses of the word "play", each of these having a different meaning based on the context of the word's usage in a sentence

You gave me a definition for EVERY SENSE so if there are 50 senses of a particular word then in a particular case IF ALL 50 SENSES OF THE WORD DEFINE THE SUBJECT AT HAND the it means in every sense of the word.

The etymology website says "The "male-or-female sex" sense of the word" which is implying 1 meaning which if used in a sentence the reader could

reconstruct the likely intended meaning of a word. This process uses context to narrow the possible senses down to the probable ones.

Colloquially the word gender was not viewed as a synonym for sex until the 1900s as stated in the etymology website. By which they likely mean the late 1990s. The fact that they just broadly lump it into the entire 1900s is unfortunate for the context of this particular issue because people start acting like everyone just spontaneously started saying it in like 1901.

It's also overlooked that the overwhelming majority of parents want what's best for their children, like 99.9999%. Most of the parents going along with the trans stuff are doing it because they are being tricked by doctors saying things like "you can have a trans son or a dead daughter". They don't know anything about trans ideology beforehand and then freak out. A lot of those women saying the parents should not be informed are operating under that hyperbolic suicide narrative and think the parents are literally trying to kill the poor trans kids by disagreeing with the dogma.

I was ready to believe you until I clicked the link which makes it seem like you are trying to make your point in bad faith by linking to something which doesn't support your own argument.

You looked up "sense of the word" on Webster and that phrase didn't exist so it gave 2 suggestions.

"in every sense of the word"... Ie there are multiple ways to consider the word but in EVERY sense it means a certain thing.

"in the strict/strictest sense (of the word)" ... Ie without allowing for any deviation from the definition.

Neither of those things define the thing you claimed.

I was never in the military but even I am really skeptical that the chain of command is so afraid of being cancelled that they would let someone hit a supervisor officer and then let him double down in front of everyone. I imagine perhaps you could get away with it in private but as soon as you do it in front of everyone it becomes an abomination to the hierarchy.

On my phone it shows up as 2 paragraphs. Just checked as desktop version and see the 3. However, it definitely doesn't say what he claimed. He claimed it's "synonymous" and the website doesn't claim that. It says there was a "sense" of the meaning.

There is no 3rd paragraph. And yes we all know gender refers / referred to "kinds" of things including grammar and sex because 2 sexes are 2 kinds of things. The second paragraph mentions 15c as a vague "sense" with no examples or citations. It immediately goes on to say the shift happened in 20c which is the 1900s which is the time period where feminist academics started using the term and people started commonly using the word wrong in the late 1990s. I remember the 80s and literally no one was going around saying "my gender this" or "my baby's gender" etc. Occasionally people on TV would use it in reference to pop culture, that's it. Even i started using it in the early 00s but at the time didn't know why it popped into popularity. People love to point at that vague sentence in this specific etymology website but I have yet to see anyone pull up an example where anyone was commonly or even uncommonly using "gender" as a direct synonym for "sex" prior to the 70s.

Am i missing the part about being gender critical? Gender is/was specifically meant to be different from sex. People incorrectly started using "gender" as a "polite" replacement for "sex" but they were never meant to be the same thing. It was supposed to refer to the role/caste in society specifically linked to your sex. TRAs also incorrectly stole the word to refer to some kind of magic soul.

The most annoying part now is that "gender" is being colloquially understood by both of the WRONG definitions and whenever you try to talk about gender you get this partisan argument but neither side knows what the actual definition is.

He's clearly doing something similar to "ban evading" in online communities but it's still on the school for not outright banning him. They basically tried to ghost him by not rehiring because no one wanted to explicitly ban him from working there. Then he changed his name to sneak back in so his motivations are clearly slimy but also not really illegal. The school couldn't even bring themselves to fire him.

When I was in school, not once did a PE teacher or coach come into the locker rooms to change while students were in there. Perhaps people on various sports teams have a different experience? The only time i remember an adult coming into the student changing area was when a kid slipped in the shower the teacher came in and escorted him out and had him get dressed in private.

This guy is clearly getting a thrill out of forcing himself into their face. Zero reason to go change with the students. Zero reason to go into the bathroom and start talking to someone.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Gender was introduced about the 1970s to represent the social construct of the sex based caste system. In the 80s "gender bending" fashion became popular where men and women rebelled against strict gender roles but there was no confusion the men in belly shirts were still men and women wearing angular shoulder pads were still women. In the 90s grunge became a thing and people dumped the elaborate clothing. Men and women were basically wearing the same outfits. No one really used the word "gender" except in academia. In the 00s people were starting to incorrectly use the word "gender" as a more polite way to say "sex" but were often corrected by others from academia and transgender people at the time would say "no gender is a social construct" because they actually understood the academic writings behind it. 3rd wave feminism is brewing where people are putting into writing about how every type of oppression links to every other type. By the 10s gays had become normalized and gay marriage legalized. All those giant gay rights organizations were desperate to stay in business so they shifted over to "trans rights" and needed to come up with some new catch phrases. Tumblr exists where teenagers make really bad takes on academic writings.

This is about the time the public is fully confusing the word "gender" and now transgender people have flipped 180 on that definition. Now instead of correcting people they are now saying the terms "man and woman" are the social constructs and therefore detached from "sex" which was still generally accepted as biological. I think that puts the pin in your timeline. I think the "TWAW" thing is some sloganeering from the newly refocused gay trans rights groups.

More recently in the now 20s they have been saying some more crazy shit that sex itself is the social construct and the only "real" thing is their "gender identity".

.

I don't think it's so much a memo went out as much as the slogans reinforce the clusterB delusions so they feed off each other.

I started to skim since it was quite long but the one thing i wanted to question was the specific use of party affiliation to do the study. They said "people in the middle are not included" but so often the media creates this imaginary class of people who are "independents" and places them between democrats and republicans and calls that "moderate". I don't know if that's what happened here but it seems potentially likely.

.

The people they used who are part of a party are actually pretty weird. I find anyone in the modern day who says they are a D or R as really out of step with the vast majority of people. Most people who are party loyalists are usually liberal/Neoliberal AND Neocon warhawks. All the other people who are some type of populist are then either progressive or conservative and specifically NOT "in the middle"

.

It actually makes sense that people who self label as D it R can not date because part of the partisan game is that they are extremely aligned on most issues of corporate power and foreign policy but invent an existential crisis over some social issues so that the followers will fight to the extreme and come out to vote.

.

I personally would be fine dating a person who is political but be really suspicious if the person was a party loyalist.

3rd wave feminism / intersectionality really is the root of all of this insanity. The concept of discussing how different forms of oppression stack is decent but it quickly devolved into seeing "points of oppression" as "oppression points". The first is discussing different ways a person is disadvantaged, the second is looking for ways to rack up a high score. On top of that, they see a high score as morally virtuous instead of a state of being. The higher your score the more virtue you have. All the invented identities are a way for normal or advantaged people to compete on the score. You get these types of people who stack up (trans & black & woman & lesbian & sex worker & poor & autistic) and they see it as a 7 hit combo in street fighter.

It's important to a degree but we've definitely seen TiA posts over the years where European countries do some weird stuff and you get people defending it with reasons which boil down to "free speech doesn't include X". This is what's going on in this Mexican article they are saying free speech doesn't include "violence" but the violence is politely stating the objective truth.

Also, I'm aware the US isn't fully innocent on this either. It's most noticeable with BDS where people are being denied state jobs like teaching if they have dared to say anything positive about Palestinians.

The problem is FtMs need to use a stall or use a prosthetic thing to pee at a urinal which makes a mess so it's easier to use the stall. MtFs could use the urinal but they don't want to because it triggers them to do a male appearing act. So basically everyone under the trans umbrella and all women who wouldn't mind using the neutral bathroom need a stall to pee. If the men's room only has a single stall it reduces the feasibility of using it as the gender neutral room.

People in the comments seem confused why so many companies have a separate men's room and an "all gender" room like it's an attack on women. It's literally their fault. These are generally buildings with preexisting bathrooms the so a policy comes through demanding they provide "all gender" bathrooms. They can either spend thousands renovating the men's rooms to be all stalls or just buy a $1 sign on Amazon and slap it over the women's room sign. Half the time the men's room only has 1 or 2 stalls.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The shock data suggests that understanding on the issue is poor because many members of the public simply do not know what some politically correct terms mean.

I figured this out a long time ago. At least 10 years ago I saw an argument taking place on a friend's Facebook timeline. It was a story about "transman forced to play on girls high school wrestling team". I decided to scroll and see what the average Joe types were saying. The arguments were totally nonsense because they all had different ideas of what they were looking at. Many of them agreed with each other but didn't even realize.

I just injected and explained what each word meant. It's actually a girl who wants to be a boy and is not on hormones yet but cut her hair short and the school "forced" her to play on the girl's squad. Everyone was suddenly going "ooooooohhhhhh sorry John Doe i thought x y z".

Yes it's because they say "trans woman" is a type of woman with "trans" being implied as an adjective. I had this debate with a TRA before I said "you realize that trans is a prefix right?" They kept arguing that it was just an adjective to describe the woman. This is why they get so mad if you write "transwomen" with no space. It's clearly a way of using language as thought control. Basically using the logic that "obviously transwomen are a type of woman because it says it right in the name." Ok but you activists literally just made up the term to fit the narrative not the other way around.
