Thanks for picking up our slack, waffle and NBF! Here is the list of approved contributors as it currently stands. The comments from our valiant mod u/NutterButterFlutter on this post contain a list of usernames that have submitted modmail requests to be added but that still need to be vetted by us. It's a tall order, but if we can divide it up among volunteers into manageable parts, it's very doable. Would any volunteers be willing to take on a designated set of 5-10 applicants (or any amount you state you are willing to do, even 1) to review subject to the guidelines posted by u/NutterButterFlutter here?

I tried to work that criteria into the following form. I recommend that volunteers use this form or a similar one to fill out for their designated applicants. That way, the thinking that went into the decision is transparent to avoid hard feelings and awkwardness.

Automatic Nos:

  • Does the user have no history?
  • When did the user create their account? [If created in the 24 hours before or after our sub made a major change, such as this week, automatic no)]
  • Did the user comment or post once and never return?
  • Did the user target s/GenderCritical or s/lesbians?
  • Did the user join forces or sympathize with "Infinite Alt Accounts"?

Red Flags, but Not Necessarily an Automatic No:

  • Did the user have posts/comments repeatedly removed for breaking language rules is suspicious, and most likely a no. [Check the moderator logs and post/comment history. Deleted inflammatory posts/comments will show up on their profile but when you click to see them in context on a post, they will appear deleted.]
  • Did the user send private messages to mods about actions instead of using modmail? [For NBF to determine]
  • Did the user send modmail or private messages within seconds of mod action towards someone else? [For NBF to determine]
  • Other Red Flags?

Conclusion:

  • Any notable positive or mitigating factors?

  • Recommendation?

Well, I think we all need to sit and think a little about why we're here and what we want from this forum.

The original purpose of both this site and the reddit sub was to allow for political organization. We have repeatedly decided as a group that we want this to be a social forum instead.... so in my opinion we should be fostering that aspect.

I have always complained about the amount of cruelty and denigration that goes on here toward social media users on other sites. You don't need to "vent" four times a day every day. Think of the humanity of the people you're talking about (and also talking to) when you comment.

We need to find something else to talk about. Get personalities, people.

I'll take this a separate comment- a, let's say cultural, issue on this forum is the tendency to abuse the report button and to involve the moderator in disagreements that could have been handled with just a comment.

The moderator is not the babysitter.
