Little wonder. What sane L, G or B person would want to live next door to Jeffrey Marsh or Chase Strangio or even Laurie fucking non-binary Penny.

Meh. As far as I'm concerned, gayborhoods are a menace to stable relationships. When I was young, I lived in San Francisco (including the Castro for awhile). Everybody was looking for the next hookup, if you were in a relationship it was "the best you can do for now" because there was always somebody richer and better-looking less than 3 blocks away.

Spousal unit and I live in a good neighborhood that consists mostly of older families and (straight) retirees. We fit in here and don't need/want anything else.

This is due to the 2008 recession, to say it's old news is a massive understatement. Not sure what rock this reporter lives under. Presumably a gay friendly rock.

But in May, Jones, 67, left for a small home with a garden and apple and peach trees 75 miles away in Sonoma County after the monthly cost of his one-bedroom apartment soared to $5,200 from $2,400.

There's your problem. A lot gaybourhoods were set up in cities that eventually became expensive. Most of Ireland's gay scene is confined to Dublin, the most expensive city in the Eurozone. Most gay people cannot afford the cost of living in these cities.

And yes, the gaybourhoods got ruined when they became woke and trans-centric. Rent is not the only factor.

For all the talk about "rich cis gays," I don't really see it much. There are certainly groups of men who can afford to do all the cruises and circuit parties and whatnot, but they are a minority of a minority. I am a truck driver dating a guy who works at a food production facility. We are keeping our heads above water, and this is in a small city in the Southern United States with relatively cheap rent.

In general the idea of major cities (New York, London, etc.) as a place easy to "be yourself" as an emerging young person--regardless of whether you are gay--died with the 20th century. Sounds like a fun time for older friends I knew who got to experience it, but that's not the reality anymore.

Unfortunately a lot of gay people are stuck in the past, so they're still perpetuating the myth that most gay men can thrive in the city. Sadly, in my country there is no gay scene outside of Dublin.

This story just seems like a net positive. Gay neighborhoods were set up in really bad and unsafe locations specifically because the people were rejected from society. I remember a time when certain straight people were starting to change and we're intentionally trying to move into the gay neighborhoods specifically because the gays built up a safe location to raise their kids.

Cities in general are suffering from exploding rent and those gay neighborhoods are now seen as highly trendy. Since acceptance has gone up so much, this is no longer a matter of physical safety and gays can easily move to more affordable locations.

In terms of socioeconomics this sucks but in terms of gay acceptance it's a good sign.

I'm glad more people are moving out of cities. It's not sustainable having more than half the world's population living in cities. But people are moving into car dependent suburbs where you need a car to get around. This strips the elderly and the disabled of their independence. Villages where you can walk anywhere are where city dwellers should be relocating to. As for cities, well, cities in North America are a failed experiment because you need a car to get around them. European cities, where people get around by foot, by trams or by bicycle, are how cities should be designed.

Gay people should be able to live in cities, towns, villages, suburbs and rural areas. We should use our options.

I believe that civil engineers say the exact opposite. I hate cities myself but from a planning perspective there just isn't enough land to give the billions of people in the world their own land.

We lose the ability to elect our own and defeat our enemies.”

Either you want to be on the outside of society, or you want to be accepted.

Sounds like he wants to be on the outer edges

It just struck me as a strange thing to say.
