Biden will fully support the tra's, the ongoing erasure of lgb and women as a sex. So if that's an issue for you then I wouldn't vote Biden. Trump doesn't care but will do what the religious expression crowd wants, so we lose the cake wars.

I mean, there're people who are gay and allies who think you should be able to refuse anyone for anything. I can appreciate that kind of thinking since it goes both ways, kinda like our situation with Reddit bans - should everyone or just some get to express their freedom of expression and choice in who they serve? I'm personally unsure. I am not a fan of capitalism itself though so...

I'm sorry but none of the issues discussed in this sub are as important as the right to access abortion. It doesn't make sense to protect the definition of woman if we lose women's rights anyway.

A trump reelection means a supreme court packed 7-1 with conservatives judges for the next few decades and the two new ones will be similar to Kavanaugh. This is much more impactful than anything else that will happen during this next election. I don't have even a second of hesitation before saying I support Biden.

This exactly.

That's a fair reply. Probably the best case for Biden I've seen so far tbh.

I just wished you guys had a better system and more parties to "actually" vote for so to speak.

I think with the cake cases they made it about not refusing someone because their gay but because they didn't want to participate in the wedding by making a specific wedding cake. I don't know if I would be ok with refusing anyone for any reason, but devils advocate, it would allow LGB to make spaces that could legal just be lesbian spaces or gay male spaces or wlw, etc. Refusing anyone would be the libertarian case, I think. Either way the cake is like the pronoun battle imo, not the hill to die on.

Biden. Lesser of two evils, particularly when it comes to environmental protections/global warming and reproductive rights. I just hope he surrounds himself with good advisers, because I do fear that he is in the early stages of dementia. And I'm also praying that RBG will hang on until January.

[–]ShotTopic 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Fully agree with you. Honestly I'm not even thinking about gay rights this election. I'm far more concerned with the environment, protecting Roe v Wade, and RGB's health.

Yeah, I guess there're more issues than the identity political ones. Hopefully this trans-bullshit will not even be mentioned unless the Republicans bring it up for some reason.

Biden. I think for any sane person it's a no-brainer. As a woman, as someone with empathy, as someone who isn't a single issue voter, Biden.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah, I can appreciate that. Besides, this whole TRA thing wont just go away because Trump wins.

[–]notdelusionalbased faggot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It doesn't go away but at least it will meet some resistance which will trigger them to loon out more so the public will better be able see their true intentions. I also don't want to pay taxes that go to trans identifiers getting medical handouts in the military. Biden's former boss set that in motion and Trump thankfully stopped it.

[–]julesburm1891 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Honestly, I’m stuck. I loathe Biden and Trump. Both are incompetent windbags that can’t string together a coherent sentence or keep their hands off women.

I’ve voted Democrat in every other election of my life, but I’m contemplating voting libertarian this time around because I can’t convince myself that either are worth it. (Yes, Jorgensen is also an abysmal choice but there’s at least no chance of her winning.)

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I mean, if no one votes for third party candidates of course they wont win. From my perspective with 8 parties in the "congress" of my country, it's a bit odd that there're only 2 "real" choices.

[–]julesburm1891 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Realistically, the party system in America needs to change. Both the Republican and the Democratic parties are being split by ideological differences. (The Democrats are just more of a glaring train wreck to watch at the moment.) Very few are happy with the arrangement.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

To me it looks like the parties are treated more like teams in football than political parties. That people tie their identities to them and refuse to aknowledge that the other side even has a tiny bit of truth in them. Also hypocrisy. I totally support the black people's struggle for police reform and the issues like that, but the Democrats went from "everyone should stay inside at all times!!!" to "go out an protest!!!". ??? That to me looks weird.

[–]notdelusionalbased faggot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Not necessarily odd. Fewer teams is how stronger coalitions get built.

[–]notdelusionalbased faggot 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Trump. Voted for him the first time and won't hesitate to again. Biden is weak, he'll take a knee for the TRAs and other extreme leftists.

[–]PenseePansyBio-Sex or Bust 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Problem is, when it comes to weakness, Trump can MORE than hold his own against Biden (of whom I am decidedly not a fan).

First, he's taken a knee for extreme RIGHTISTS time and again. Which, from our POV, is a major weakness in itself, given that such people are not exactly known for being LGB-friendly. But hey, at least this means that Trump (unlike Biden) can be relied on to oppose leftist extremism, notably TRAs, right? 'Cause their enemies have him by the short hairs?

That's where Trump's OTHER weaknesses come in.

Namely ignorance, incompetence, gullibility, and greed: all easily-exploited. Anyone who does so, owns him, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

So: what if that's, say, TRAs? They have money, after all. And Trump is forever living beyond his means. Plus he has no real worldview beyond, "what's in it for me?" You think the same people who've taken over all things LGB can't figure out a way to capitalize on THAT?

I mean, I sure hope not... but you know what they say about nature abhorring a vacuum...

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

"Trump will shut down TRA" argument I see pretty weak.

Right now he is in power. And right now is the biggest TRA boom. So why anything should change if he stays?

Oh, I'll go you one better: it doesn't even QUALIFY as a talking point. Stale or otherwise.

Much as I revile him, I don't much care for that particular brand of Trump-criticism, either. Where you're against him just because, well, everyone ELSE (in your social circle) is. And it's largely a matter of laziness and virtue-signaling.

We may not agree on much here... but I think neither of us has any time for THAT.

Due to the electoral college most of us don't have a say in the presidential election. i have a zero % chance of influencing the presidential election. Normally i vote for Green party to help push for party viability with federal matching funds but this year the green party appears to have its own corruption scandal and i really don't know what to do.

[–]PenseePansyBio-Sex or Bust 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Largely true of course, HOWEVER... this is why so many Michigan Democrats didn't even vote in the 2016 general election.

The state had always been dependably-blue for prez since 1992. Vote Republican, don't vote at all-- you're not gonna influence it, right? Too many Democratic voters for that. And we wanted Bernie (won the MI primary), so when the Democratic leadership gave him the bum's rush and threw the establishment political hack at us instead, well-- fuck THAT! Why should I vote at all then? The Democrat automatically wins here anyway! (And that goes double for one running against some idiotic fascist hairdo!)

oh no... :(

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Those states were all within the margin of error for Clinton to lose. I really think it was the media playing up the narrative that Clinton was going to win in a landslide victory and depressed voters who were sickened by the idea of having to vote for her but would have if they understood that it was actually close.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

I've always thought the EC was an odd thing, looking from the outside. Doesn't seem very democratic from the self-proclaimed number 1 democracy. :s

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It's an anachronistic election system. The states were seen as the primary governing entities. They would hold elections for their federal representation which would determine the electors who would need to physically travel to DC and then the electors would vote for president in person. Presumably they would vote in line with the voters of their state but were able to go with their judgment if something happened between the vote and the electoral college meeting.

It was always biased in favor of the southern states. Slaves got counted as population but couldn't vote. Now states use prisons for the same effect. That biases the outcome of that particular state to have disproportionate influence.

All states but 1 now use the EC to throw their entire influence behind a single party instead of proportional based on voters. Take California which is the most egregious example. Democrats hold complete power of state function. The majority of actual people are not democrats but the majority of voters are so they legislate that all 40 million people in their state give that many proportional electoral votes towards president. They aren't going to fix it because they get to allocate tens of millions of voters who didn't vote for them into democratic party electoral college votes.

Sounds like a mess. I'm sorry but it sounds like you guys need a new constitution. Fawning over something old isn't good itself. Keep the spirit of it - freedom, but reform it heavily to be presence and future proof as possible.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The constitution and the Bill of rights are really the only things holding back complete corporate capture. The Supreme Court is actually decent at bouncing back laws which are blatantly unconstitutional.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Plenty of republics don't have EC, like how many monarchies don't have actual power. That was my point. A republic can work by popular vote. The other countries with EC aren't as odd as the American one.

I think you believe I'm insulting America or something. Questioning is not insult. I think America is big enough to handle questions.

[–]notdelusionalbased faggot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't blame non-Americans for not understanding this federal republic with these 50 unique states and territories spread across a relatively large area, but it is fair game to call out when someone makes a claim on something they clearly don't understand.

[–]Archie 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Careful though, some states that weren't supposed to be swing states crossed the line the last time, and many are dangerously close to do so, inone direction or another. I'm sure you know this better than me, but your vote might still be important this year.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I do not live in a swing state. I live in MA which votes blue for everything except for the governor but the Republicans who they put in office as Gov are all neoliberal and equal to national level democrats.

[–]chazzstrong 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It's a rough choice, but not a tough one. Biden is just a tool for the progressives, the man does not have an individual thought in his head that doesn't involve sniffing children and whichever sycophant narcissist he chooses as VP will end up running our country within the year. Trump, on the other hand, is an egotistical douchebag but promotes very America-first policies and positions that I agree with. I don't want to say 'lesser of two evils' because a) you don't vote for evil and b) Trump hasn't really done anything bad enough to be 'evil'...just sorta not-good.

This will be my first year, in 20+ years voting, that I'm voting Republican. I sat out last one, but I don't feel like I CAN anymore with what's at stake. Plus I stand against Socialism and Communism by default, as I enjoy freedom and liberty, so unless we get a good last-minute Independent candidate...Trump it is.

[–]Archie 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Weird take that looks like you watched more youtube cut videos from one extreme side or the other rather than full debates or biden's actual policies... I encourage you to take a look at them, raw, without the opinion of somebody else on top of them, if you haven't done it already.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Sounds like a good compromise. I do think Trump is doing good with China, even though I hate him as a person and most of his policies.

[–]Shinjin_NanaNopes faster than an Aeldari Jetbike 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I give him 'broken clock' status on that. But I do prefer his administration's reply to that specific issue to the D's right now (who seem to be more scared of racist white dudes yelling stuff at Asian Americans than IDK Uighur death camps or the overrrun of Hong Kong).

It really depends on what issues you think are important and in what order.

I'd like a stronger social safety net, but the shit with china is too much to ignore, paired with the R's stronger stance against TRAs and slightly better stance on freedom of speech... but they suck on just about everything else. XD;; There really is no win. Just the turd that stinks the least.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

[–]ShotTopic 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Biden, complete no-brainer.

He wasn't my pick in the primaries and I'm frustrated he's the Democrat candidate, but it is what it is at this point. When I cast my vote it won't be because I'm endorsing him as President, I'm endorsing the type of people he will be appointing. Cabinet members, advisers, judges, etc, that's what's important.

Maybe if I like his VP it'll make voting for him a little easier to swallow, but we gotta do what we gotta do.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Who would you like to see as VP?

[–]ShotTopic 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

I voted for Elizabeth Warren in the primaries, so I like her the best as a backup plan to Biden if something happens to him health-wise. But she might be better as senate majority leader.

My girlfriend voted for Kamala Harris in the primaries and a lot of people think she's a likely VP pick, but she might be better as attorney general.

I don't have a specific person in mind currently but I'm really curious when he'll announce his pick.

Edit - hey look, it's Kamala Harris afterall.

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I live in a thoroughly red state so I'm used to my vote being a throwaway. I might vote 3rd party again; couldn't bring myself to vote Hillary last time and Biden is basically no different. I know Trump won't kneel to the TRAs but there's other policies I disagree with

[–]IAmSatanVery... very... very gay.[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

O don't get me wrong. Trump is not a good thing for the USA or anywhere else on the planet. There is a rather frightening shift and power grab I feel happening in not just politics in the USA but all over the globe. China seems to be on the way to full-blown Cold War 2 for example.

Trump is a sign or symptom if you will of a much greater problem facing our societies today. We have to ask ourselves why he happened...... All is not well. Society has taken a turn for the worse and things like covid has really demonstrated how easily it all can come tumbling down and its kinda spooked people.

Scared people are easily lead.......

I don't care much for labels because they're always subject to being misconstrued by the masses; I'm very nationalistic, against under-regulated capitalism and tax cuts for people who don't need them, against industrialization + progress of technology, pro-environment, etc.

If I was American, I would attempt to throw the whole America away. It's bad. It's moldy, it's expired, there's no saving it.

Unfortunately, I am Russian. Even if foreigners were allowed to vote in the US elections, Russians don't vote for our president anyway.

Naive American Lesbian here, I'm voting for Trump. He's supporting free speech and fighting biased political media, while also doing something about China's bullying.

It breaks my heart seeing Democrats dehumanizing the other side and only see them as somehow evil. We must allow discourse, I just want us all to get along.

Yeah, I love free speech and most freedoms in general so I can see where you're coming from. Also huge fan of the anti-China stuff. Thank you for your views.

Wow, thank you! I had been resigned to be obliterated and rejected from all sides by now. I assure you, my reasons have nothing to do with hate which I have none in my heart. I'm a peaceful pacifist, and I take do just want everyone to be heard and treated with dignity.

Jo, as an utter protest vote. No, i dont agree with her ideologically 100%, but FUCK i cannot stand trump. but i cant bring myself to vote for biden. The guy is clearly a DNC tool who i'm sorry. he has dementia. He really does. The DNC has also decided to hardnose on issues that I just can't compromise on anymore. The republicans wont defend any of my damn rights and the freaking democrats want to take them away and NEITHER will implement anything remotely resembling real change.

I held my nose and voted for clinton and the absolute insanity is the DNC learned nothing. Sanders at least I could be like "i can't stand some of his views but i'm pretty sure he means well and some of his views are okay". Biden, fuck, he's just gonna be a puppet for whoever.

Given RGB i might change my mind. Maybe. To biden. but it makes me want to vomit to think about it. Frankly I want both Biden and Trump to fall over dead of natural causes before november and get a do over with people who are mentally coherent (neither are) and with any luck, not sexual assault creeps (both are).
