I get that it’s easy to blame another country for it, but if anime and Japan were the sole reason, the whole “transbian” problem would be a much bigger issue in Japan. Except it’s not at all. Ack, some of the comments go on about how lesbians are so pure and so perfect, I really hate that crap, no actual lesbian with any life experience talks that way. Lesbian relationships are just as complex and difficult at times as all other relationships. We don't sit around all day painting our nails with rainbows in totally cute sleep attire blowing hearts out of our ass. We argue, get jealous, cheat, get depressed, have bad days, etc. I really don't know why they seem to believe that lesbians have these perfect lives, I've been a lesbian my whole life and it's not easy, at all.

I think a lot of it is people, mainly teenagers, who hate themselves and are allured by the idea of a) blaming all their woes on gender dysphoria / transphobia and not these things that are more abstract and intangible like poor socialization, social anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, etc. and b) allured by the idea of reinventing themselves. '

They think they hate themselves because they're trans. But I think they hate themselves for some of those reasons I mentioned. There's no other explanation in my mind for why the most common onset on gender dysphoria has shifted towards adolescence.

On top of this they get what appears to be an affirming, embracing community (i.e. the T community and LGBTQ community more broadly) of people who will approve of them instantly.

The trans community seems to be a lot of people who think the grass is greener on the other side. Life is largely not very fun. It’s mostly drudgery and struggle that you push through to get to some sort of happiness. That won’t change if you’re a man or a woman. It won’t change if you’re gay, straight, or bi.

Yeah, there's a large community/peer pressure thing that seems to send the messaging that becoming trans will somehow magically fix all the problems in their life. It won't. Their dysphoria won't go away, and their mental illnesses that cause their problems to begin with will remain untreated.

I agree. I do think we're playing fast and loose with people's mental health because doctors want to feel and be seen as saviors. And frankly, as someone who's always been a little GNC, if I were a teenager in this day and age, and if my friends were coming out as trans or non-binary, I probably would too.

I hate this too. Actually even my straight friends always say stuff like this 'I wish I was a lesbian, then I wouldn't have to deal with relationships with men' or similar things. Do you think lesbian relationships are any different from any other relationship? They still argue and have problems like any other relationship. These people are living in some alternate reality.

It's escapism for the terminally single and it permiates all sexualities. I'm still confused on how trans-women are lesbians due to them retaining the same sexuality they had before their transition. They started out in life as a biological male who is attracted to women and they still are biological males who are attracted to women despite them looking like women. Changing your appearance doesn't change your sexuality.

It do be that way. I've always loved women, but hated the idea of being with them as a man. It's a great feeling to love them as my true self.

It boggles the mind how they can be so self aware and oblivious at the same time.

I met a girl at a college before i learned about all this. She had the same thing but opposite. She was "trans but no dysphoria." I ended up talking to her for several hours because I was so confused by her statements. Basically we boiled it down to she was only trans for dating and specifically for sex because her concept of her sexuality was being the top in a gay male relationship. She was fine being a woman in day to day life but could only envision having sex by railing a femboy.

She also knew a fake ftm penis didn't work so wasn't interested in surgery. At first she refused to accept the idea of just dating an efeminate straight guy. IT MUST BE GAY. Eventually she agreed with me at how impossible it was to make a gay guy want to date a woman. I explained that just based on statistics there are so few gays in society that if she just bluntly stated in a dating app or website what she wanted that the most likely response would come from a straight guy. Take all gays and just remove all tops and verse guys off the bat then look at only bottoms and find some tiny percentage of those people who might go along with her request. The number becomes vanishingly small. Take the same small percentage of all straight men and the number is suddenly more viable.

At the end she was just staring off into space. She said she never thought about it in terms of pure numbers before then kind of wanders off. She had been coming to the LGBT room for a while then I never saw her again after that.
