Notice how she specifically says "consequences for his actions". He's done shit all other than put out some words/his opinion.

No wonder these people think words = violence, they can't even differentiate words from actions.

Be afraid when people talk about "consequences". It's a very clever thing they do when they invoke this concept.

Consequences are something that is caused by an initial action. Push a glass off the table and in consequence, it breaks. It cannot be otherwise and no third party has to participate for the glass to break.

The only reason there is a consequence is that there was an initial action, and the person who performed the initial action is solely responsible for it.

That is the key. Hold that thought.

When people say something and others opt to get offended, the consequence of what was said is, at most, that some people got offended. (I'd argue that offense cannot ever be given, just taken, but let's set that aside for now.)

But nowadays, the woke, especially, want revenge. They want to take reprisals against the person who said something they don't like. They want to inflict pain and anguish.

These are all reprehensible things to do, though, and they will often be met with rejection, condemnation and resistance.

So these folks speak instead of consequences. By doing so, they are hiding the fact that they want revenge and that they want to harm others, and they instead present the situation as one in which their victim has caused the retribution and revenge to happen to themselves.

This is gaslighting. And it's the ultimate in victim blaming!

So, she decided that the best way to have a discussion about this was to put this kid's name out on the internet, along with his picture, and call for a witch hunt. Yes, this is rational, mature behavior coming from an "adult".

I think both of them are the same age. Isn’t it why she got that yearbook?

Edit: yep, she is a high schooler. Two kids. One believes in science, one believes in “kindness”

Gender isn't "science". There are two sexes. Gender is patriarchal bullshit. Since when does shit by two moronic teenagers pass for discourse on this sub? Is the OP even a woman?

[–]yishengqingwa666 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What she said.

[–]TurtleFuzz 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I guess I thought that they had graduated, hence the "adult". But nowhere in the post does it say that, so my mistake!

I’ve read in an excellent article about cancel culture that the difference between criticism and cancel culture is, the former says, “Here is where you are wrong,” and then waits for a response. If you make one, great; if not, whatever; if you realize you were wrong, very well. Criticism only turns into an effort to stop someone when it leads to actual harm against others. Cancel culture wastes no time on that. It just says, “You’re an asshole and you need to pay for your sins.”

[–]TurtleFuzz 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah, cancel culture is a plague. Do you have the link to that article? It sounds interesting.

[–]yishengqingwa666 27 insightful - 5 fun27 insightful - 4 fun28 insightful - 5 fun -  (4 children)

He's wrong. There are two sexes and no genders. Gender is bullshit and means nothing.

[–]just_lesbian_things 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Thank you. Since when is some idiotic dude's yearbook quote worthy of discussion on this sub?

A lot of women seem to be just waking up to gender ideology and don't know the "correct" terms or even the "correct" way to think.

But some advice from a "Second Waver" who watched how feminism as a popular movement disintegrated where I was around the late 1970s partially because hardliners didn't think normies were feminist enough, please be kind to newcomers.

And please take this advice in the spirit it's offered -I want feminism to become inclusive again, even of women who might not be Dworkin-ites, because, with the Democratic party in the US pushing legislation, the Equality Act, that will erase women as a distinct legal category, we are facing the biggest threat to women's rights in decades and we need all hands on deck. Even, gasp, men.

Edited to add that legislation similar to the Equality Act is being pushed in many countries by Trans, Inc.; women's rights are under attack globally. We need all the help we can get to save women's rights. And then we can go back to squabbling about everything else (half-joke).

[–]just_lesbian_things 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

OP is not a newcomer. OP is at best a Christian trolling various subsaidits for votes. Nothing about this post is insightful and since we can't downvote nonsense on this site, we'll have to call it out. Gender has no place in a gender CRITICAL community. This place is supposed to stand for gender ABOLITION, and newcomers should know that.

"I DEMAND action be taken against the student" -- always with the demands. It's never "I feel this is disrespectful" -- it's always "we're under ATTACK!"

When Naomi graduates (and doesn't get a job in high tech or anime) and discovers pretty much everyone on earth thinks like David Totzke here, what will she (I've assumed her pronoun...) do?

[–]ArthnoldManacatsaman 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

She will go to college and have her Wokeness really baked in, and then when she does get a job she'll take to social media and lobby for people in her organisation who offend her to be disciplined or fired.

I used to believe that these kinds of people would get a rough wake-up call when they entered the real world, but it seems increasingly like the real world is bending itself to fit their twisted ideology, so they are the ones who, despite being constantly victimised and erased by white men, are actually gliding through life.

Lmao what does she think will happen? Clearly the staff agrees with him otherwise they wouldn't have published it. Also TRA's only threaten women not men, silly goose.

[–]Immortallogic 17 insightful - 3 fun17 insightful - 2 fun18 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

God I hate how the people standing up for the transcult are usually women. Women are too god damned empathetic and it will be the end of our species.

[–]jet199 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Historically women's empathy was seen as a flaw because it threatened the safety of the group.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1270931404034052098.html

However I don't see what she is doing as empathy. Empathy is putting yourself in someone else's shoes and she has no idea how the fuck trans people think about that joke or anything else. This is just old school liberal paternalism being practiced by spoilt teens who couldn't actually afford that luxury of thought if they were ever to leave home.

[–]GConly 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah... Most people will agree with him.

[–]jet199 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

A joke doesn't become an attack just because it's about a group of people you have a patronising attitude towards.

Who will protect all those poor helpless trans kittens (that are mostly 6 foot +, hairy arsed, 40 year old perverts)?

[–]Iridescence 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

I mean, he's wrong (at least IMO, insofar as gender is a social construction and I don't think any genders inherently exist), but is the right reaction to somebody's being incorrect really to publicly shame and dox them over the internet...?

[–]ArthnoldManacatsaman 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

She's not interested in the factual accuracy of his statement, she's interested in the impact the statement had and the feels he caused. Presumably if he had said 'Trans women are women' (another actually inaccurate statement) she wouldn't have said anything.

"god" didn't create jack shit. Human beings, like all mammals, evolved as a SEXUALLY dimorphic species. There are two SEXES, gender is oppressive bullshit.

Enjoy wasting your life trying to live up to rules made up by some Arab dude hundreds of years ago.

If you had any shred of consistency, you'd ditch your electronics and go live out in the bushes somewhere the way """god""" intended, not surrounded by machines built on science you don't believe in. Religious idiots are famous for their hypocrisy.

For the last three years I have gotten the "how many genders are there" in science class once each year, and it's always been from some griefer kid. Really puts me in a tight spot. These boys are trying to disrupt class by giving a hard time to the NB kids in the room while I'm just trying to draw a damn Punnet square on the board. What I'm trying to say is I would bet the cash in my wallet right now ($20.63) that given another social climate Danny's quote would be something about vegans and hamburgers. If I lost that twenty and change, I'd be happy to be wrong.

[–]jet199 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It only puts you in a tight spot because you can't/won't be honest and factual. That's your real problem. That's why kids can run rings around you.

As a teacher you need to be better than that. Those kids need to be taught facts not politics. Would you stop teaching evolution because you had creationist kids in your class?

[–]msteacherlady 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have had creationist kids in my class and have huge supports to continue providing facts-based science education to them from our state, district, and school site. I have had both the ACLU on my ass to support the religious freedom of a JW family and the Schlafly's Eagle forum try to push alternative textbook adoption on us. There have been countless other minor pushbacks against teaching evolution but for my entire career I have received immediate support, mediation, and protection from these push backs against science education.

Last school year we had a mandatory district workshop that included trans shit. It is clear I have no support on this issue, and I refuse to lose my job over it. That doesn't mean I will stop teaching biology as I always have. As long as I can, I will insist on speaking about sex and not gender. Right now, that's about the only way I can think of to weasel out of keeping both camps from destroying the civil classroom environment. Meanwhile science teachers are losing support from our trusted institutions like the National Teachers Association which has now included trans issues in two consecutive issues of The Science Teacher publication. Transman Sam Long, AP Biology teacher, is making a name by providing curriculum and teacher training for trans-friendly science education.

I'm doing the best I can in a freakish time so cut me some slack and take some action spreading the word what's going on in science education. No really, people, anyone reading this and feeling it's upsetting, get the word out. Science teachers are in danger.

[–]just_lesbian_things 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Just tell them gender is a social construct, not a part of the hard sciences. They're better off asking the English, Social Studies, or Arts teacher. Soft sciences and arts got themselves into this mess with their lenses and identity and PoMo shit. They can get themselves out.

[–]msteacherlady 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ha! That's what I said in fact. Gender is a social construct, and more the domain of sociology, not science, so in this course I will only be talking about biological sex. Ahem. Moving on...

The young teachers wearing pronoun pins at my site are a math and English teacher. Best of luck to 'em!

[–]CleverNickName 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Even if you buy into gender ideology: How is Daniel's statement an attack on transgender people? Transgender people are boys who want to be girls and girls who want to be boys. I count two genders there.

It would be an attack on non-binary people, mostly. Who aren't even necessarily transgender.

Back in the real world, we just have yet another example of gender ideology teenagers on the internet having absolutely no idea what they're talking about because all they're doing is throwing insta-win buzzwords around and dragging a private young man into the public to demand he suffer repercussions for a statement.

You should have a conversation with a rational adult sometime, Naomi.

[–]just_lesbian_things 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It would be an attack on non-binary people, mostly. Who aren't even necessarily transgender.

Vast majority of non binary people consider themselves transgender.

[–]CleverNickName 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

well that just sounds made-up

by them, not you

[–]just_lesbian_things 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Everything is made up by them and not me. But this could be why it's considered offensive to transgender people.
