i commented "a boy needs to do boy things and a girl needs to do girl things"

I would say gendering actions, likes, dislikes, personalities, etc. is more pro-trans than not but that's just me.

Hello and welcome!

Here, we're against the TQ+ rhetoric, which means:

  • You can't change your biological sex, no matter how many surgeries you have. Men can't become women and women can't become men.

  • Our sexual orientation is based on SEX, not gender. This means that me, as a lesbian, am a female homosexual - a female attracted to other females. In other words, trans women are NOT included in my dating pool, as they are biologically male.

  • We don't believe in the existence of 100000001 genders and found this rhetoric based on sexist stereotypes and regressive - "if you're a boy and like playing with dolls, you must be trans!/if you're a girl and like to play football, you must be trans!".

  • We believe TQ+ rhetoric is deeply homophobic as we, gay men, lesbians and "old school" bisexuals (meaning they stand by the original definition - attracted to both sexes and reject the supposedly "inclusive" one - attracted to two or more genders) are being told we're transphobic by rejecting trans people from our dating pool. Specifically, because the lesbians here are rejecting trans women; gay men are rejecting trans man and bi people here, overall, reject trans people. Just because someone's bisexual, it doesn't mean necessarly he/she wants to date someone with mixed sexes characteristics.

  • We believe everyone should express themselves the way they wish. A man should be free to wear dresses, be feminine, be sensitive, do make up and is just as a MAN as any other; a woman can have short hair, wear masculine clothes, being muscular and still be as a WOMAN as any other. We're defined by our biological sex.

"a boy needs to do boy things and a girl needs to do girl things"

Like a few people already stated here, and you should guess if you managed to read it until here, that this is really not what we advocate for. We're rather actually fighting against that line of thought, among other things stated previously.

We

Some* Not everyone is a feminist/GC here.

I'm not a feminist and I'm still not sure if I'm GC yet (I'm still new to Gender Critical). But I am critical of the trans ideology. What is it that you personally disagree with? :O

Also, I'm curious to know what made you assume I'm a feminist 😂

[–]BiHorror 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Majorly, it's just the terminology for GC. I got mega issues with the concepts where they stem from. I get what they're saying (sex roles? Shouldn't exist), but the shifting off definitions, especially when it comes to criticizing TRAs for doing it but do exact same thing with "gender," and especially who coined the distinction makes me super uneasy to support.

Feminism? Not much, I just don't consider myself one. Also, for example, the whole men being a "class" thing bugs me becsuse I'm not from a super privileged family. So to say the men within my family are all a "class" (RadFem) made to oppress women bugs the fuck outta me because they're the most pro women out there. When it's only sexist men who desire to oppress women. So, the theories I also kinda disagree with (but I'm generally overall skeptical of those type of things: race, feminist, "queer," etc. theories). There's also that notion that all women within all cultures are oppressed or those cultures are oppressive because xyz although the women there are okay (this is more from the 1st wave feminist view tho but some still carry that idea with them) when in fact, there's cultures who were WAY more equitable than euro/western areas.

So really it's terminology (GC), and some theories I got issues with. Not like anti-feminism, I just wouldn't label or associate myself with it.

Well, maybe? I don't know. I am currently on Gender Critical, but I am there because it's one of the few places where someone can be critical of trans ideology. What is the terminology you're talking about exactly?

I'm going to quote one of my answers here in this sub in another post:

I'm also not a feminist. I have the exact same mindset as you do. I'm currently at Gender Critical because I agree with the truth, thus, I'll agree with many points with which they stand. But I won't affirm myself as anything politically speaking. I follow the truth simply.

I do believe feminism should exist. But I do refuse to pick sides as well. There are some ideas radical feminism advocates that are too "extremist" to me and that I do not personally agree with, but liberal feminist is too damn inclusive and personally I find it a joke. So, yes, I do relate to you when you say you're a "ideologically homeless person". I refuse to commit to a certain political stance. Overall, I believe in the freedom of speech. I do think radical feminism is important, especially in times like this. But I also admit that feminism in itself is a pretty foreign concept to me still (I mean in depth level, not just on the surface) so I don't have a firm opinion on any kind of feminism. I simply listen to someone's arguments and I'll provide my opinion on the subject. I don't care what "ideology" someone's advocating for. I simply listen and try to have a critical healthy debate.

Regarding this part:

but the shifting off definitions, especially when it comes to criticizing TRAs for doing it but do exact same thing with "gender," and especially who coined the distinction makes me uneasy to support.

I agree with you. But I didn't do this, did I? :O As far as I know, radfems use gender as synonym for gender roles, which, in my opinion, confuses people, and that's why I don't do it and I'm also against it.

So to say the men within my family are all a "class" made to oppress women

I also agree with you. In fact, I've stated that exact sentiment in another discussions in other subs as well and I'm a woman, not a man.

But in what are you exactly disagreeing with me in what I've written above? :O And what terminology exactly did I use that made you upset?

It's funny 'cause you're talking to me as if I'm a radfem and would agree with all that stuff you're critical about and I don't 😂

What is the terminology you're talking about exactly?

The attempted redefining of "gender" to mean "societal expectations" and anything related to that (ex: gender nonconforming) when that concept and term was coined by John Money. Alongside as i stated in my previous post with the whole criticizing TRAs bit.

I agree with you. But I didn't do this, did I? :O As far as I know, radfems use gender as synonym for gender roles, which, in my opinion, confuses people, and that's why I don't do it and I'm also against it.

No, no, just a lil bit. I was mainly stating that due to 1-2 points of your 1st comment.

I too have expressed that sentiment, but always got dismissed. I'm also a woman. As stated above, it was mainly 1-2 bullet points, but that's just me being fussy at the time. Apologies if I made you believe I thought you were a feminist (especially RadFem). It's just majority of the time here when people use "gender" in the societial expectations meaning, it's usually a GC and/or feminist user. Thus it gets kinda frustrating since I don't really believe in those things, and makes it seem as if majority of people on here are one of those. So that's why I posted my 1st comment stating not everyone is apart of those groups.

I really dislike this place being conflated with right wing politics, as if you can't be left wing without being part of the supporting chorus for transgender people. And this:

"a boy needs to do boy things and a girl needs to do girl things"

Is exactly the kind of nonsense that TRAs spout, so I doubt you'll find much agreement here.

Biggest joke in all of this is that I'm a "TERF who should die" but they'd just be killing a vote in their favor as I'm a progressive. 🤷‍♀️

"a boy needs to do boy things and a girl needs to do girl things"

is what trans rights activists believe. The minute a boy likes pink or a Barbie, or a girl likes trucks and the color blue, they're ready to trans these kids and ruin their whole lives.

Kids need to do what feels natural to them (within reason) without adults interfering with their gender-opinions. Many "girly boys" and "tomboys" end up becoming gay, lesbian or bisexual later on, and many of them even remain straight - adults making them miserable at such a young age over something as stupid as a toy, a color, or an activity, can cause so much trauma and damage later on.
