I’ve literally never seen any of this terf vs queer drama IRL. It’s entirely online...

Someone said this and I always wonder where people are able to totally avoid the queer bullshit in real life. I'm not a very social person, I'm not in any way active in the LGBT community, yet I and my girlfriend have been exposed to the "fuck TERFs" and "cis lesbians are shit" and "hearts not parts" rhetoric from people we know. We drive down town and what was supposed to be murals for the black community has way too many trans ones to ignore. We don't go to anything LGB related because we learned quickly it's overrun by trans and every combination of straight queer you can imagine.

It's of course not an every day occurrence but it's there.

Here in Brazil Big Brother is airing, and it's hugely popular. Some of the contestants are social media activists, and they do the same thing inside the show as people do on Twitter, bullying and harassing other contestants. Twitter users are hating the harassers, but I find it hypocritical since the same people do the same thing on social media.

People don't fully separate their online personas from real life. Of course, exceptions exist. Someone might be super liberal online but then live in a very conservative town, so they keep this liberal persona only to the internet.

I think things can be more comfortable if you already have a partner and a close circle of friends, so you can avoid other "LGBT" groups in real life. But for us who are looking for dates/friends the situation is different.

Yes, making friends. I don't know how I will ever make friends who aren't straight. Like people mentioned in the reddit thread, it's easier to find similarities and friendship with straight people than those in the community anymore.

The unfortunate truth.
