What I would like to know is this. Why is it totally ok and understandable to ask women to remove or hide reminders of female biological function because it distresses trans women so much?

But NOT OK to ask trans women to remove or hide reminders of male biological function because it distresses women who have been raped or otherwise harmed by male-bodied people?

Look TBH I don't like changing in front of other females that much and I'd sadly be a bit more on edge if I knew that woman was a lesbian. It would be even MORE uncomfortable if that person was a boner owner.

At no time does this person give an example of their parents using their birth gender. It's all what if. Having had a parent with dementia who died without forgetting who I was, I know I used to worry about how I would cope with that. But this person is being incredibly self centred. Yeah they won't know who you are, they'll call you the wrong name, deal with it. Your gender identity and new life have no bearing on this.

I would say: keep the internet warnings to being careful about revealing who she is etc, people can lie about who they are, so she needs to be cautious about dodgy folk. Support her support for gay and yes trans people - she's showing her kindness and acceptance. Give her loads of examples of how women can be badass and non-comforming. Alert her to the risks of early transition (Jazz Jennings is a great example of negative side effects from blockers) Talk to her about completely unrelated things!

Keep it light. Don't try to stop her being trans. She might be happier that way one day but she needs to grow up first. Remember that what people post online is not always reflective of tbeir reality.

Japanese girls read yaoi voraciously and don't then decide they're men. It's a way of easing into sexuality, nonthreatening.

And see if you can get her doing some stuff offline. She's entering the icky years and exercise, getting out of her brain a bit, will help.

This reminds me of some furore I saw around a shared post saying "it's not for cis women to tell transwomen they don't get periods". As soon as someone said "yeah but obviously they dont though" there was a huge pile on about estrogen affecting smooth muscle and not defining periods by a waste product (even though a PERIOD is literally THE BLOOD BIT of menstruation) and ra ra histrionics from trans and handmaid alike.

But, I thought, that's not what the meme was saying. Everyone knows TW do not bleed from nonexistent uteri at any time. The meme is actually saying "if they say they have a period ie they want to call some cramps or whatever a period, that is their thing. Just smile and nod and say nothing because making a big deal about biology will make them sad."

At best they want kindness. They want us to look the other way. All these desperate wellmeaning attempts to redefine our bodily functions are a mess that does nobody any good. People should just stop with it.

Unfortunately the loud minority are the problem.

The goal is to remove a focus on locking slim and to replace with living well, with good food and exercise. Being fat and eating healthy foods and going to the gym is better than being fat and staying on the couch eating Doritos.

I don't have words for the rage. Male bodies do not have periods. Or monthly cycles. Or anything of the sort by TurkishCoffee in GenderCritical

I am a post-menopausal feeeeeemale who takes probably the same drugs as a TIM. Amazingly, despite my possession of an actual uterus, I am yet to experience the.magic estrogen cramps or any sense of a cycle.

I believe them when they say they have these side effects. I'm just saying that as a person with experience of an actual menstrual cycle, I'm not experiencing it on their drugs.

I've been just permanently banned from r/feminism for saying that in humans sex is a binary, and that intersex people aren still either male or female. I'm a biologist. by BioFem in GenderCritical

[–]Shesstealthy 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

From my cultural studies days I can imagine some QT people eye evobiologists askance because there is a strong tendency among them to ascribe social roles to biology, thereby conveniently reinforcing the sexist status quo ("it's natural for men to be attracted to young fertile women! Females are small so they need protection inside the home!")

Nonetheless biology IS biology.

Ugh this frustrates me so.much. TIMs say they get PMS-like side effects from their meds and I believe them. However a period is THE BLEEDING. I've seen wokegirls trying to explain that it's wrong to define something by its waste product like digestion is not defined by poo - but defecation is totally defined by the presence of poo.

We all know what a period is. It's not bloat and aches and the blahs. It is blood coming out of your uterus.

I'm not going to meanly wellactually at them but all females know there is a Very Significant Difference. Period poverty isn't about insufficient funds for good chocolate.

MY favourite is the one that says all TW have puberty blockers so never have male puberty.

Which gives an idea of how little people understand about how gender dysphoria is treated in the real world.

I feel like so much of this is, in some cases, a reaction to anti-racist and feminist politics. Many people feel like victims though the stats don't support their feelings. So instead of being a reviled white woman, killing black men with her misplaced tears, one can be a genderqueer demiboy and immediately claim marginalisation. As a marginalised person one can again confidently centre oneself in all discussions.

Similarly transcels think that if they're "strong independent lesbian women" rather than cis white men they get permission to neckbeard aggressively all over the place without being chastised

TIM Blaire White claims to "no longer have DNA" due to taking androgen-blockers and cross-sex hormones by MarkTwainiac in GenderCritical

[–]Shesstealthy 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I kinda feel like Blaire just didn't want to say 'sperm' based on watching the vid. Which is weird since Blaire doesn't deny being male but otoh does tend to use euphemisms for genitals etc so I think this was the same.

Obviouslu Blaire has DNA Blaire just doesn't have the delivery system for using his DNA to create a child any more. He has the insrminator but it shoots blanks so to speak.

I thought it was oddly worded but I don't think Blaire truly believes they could commit a crime and leave no DNA evidence.

This is probably peak virtue signalling more than anything else.

I follow Dominic Noble's book and movie reviews on YouTube. He's very woke - to the point where he was all "I completely owe my career to JKR because of Harry Potter but now that she is so terfy with her whole don't call me a menstruator thing I can no longer produce HP content ever again" - but his reviews are often sharp and funny and he has a nice soothing voice.

Anyway he has just pulled a presumably humorous review of a presumably m/m book about a sexy lumberjack because... he just found out that the author has come out as NB so his video misgenders and deadnames and makes assumptions about their gender so he has to redo it.

FFS.

I'm guessing this was a typical m/m sexy romance written by a woman who no longer identifies as one, so all his observations about how the characters don't act like men have to be reviewed. That's what I'm guessing.

I hate this obliteration of people's lived experience just so they can be "who they really are" no matter how recently they made their gender decision. If you're born and raised as a girl you're formed by that no matter how NLOG or manly you think of yourself as being.

[–]Shesstealthy 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Tbh having seen lots of.joy outside the terfnet, I think two things are going on here. One, E.Page has for reasons known only to themselves decided that they're a bit of a man and has made a public declaration of that fact. People are naturally rushing to be supportive of a person they assume has been suffering. Maybe they have. And Page deciding to identify as a man is OK. It will largely limit their career to indie and Netflix shows but that's pretty much their niche anyway.

Secondly you get a lot of lesbians who are really disappointed to lose a public figure and role model. And that's also OK. Nobody should HAVE to be a role model but in the LBG world there are so few. People are allowed to be sad about it.

Whereupon it was deemed OK and that TERFS had stolen it.

So if you're Indigenous you are allowed to acknowledge your.womb presence in text.

[–]Shesstealthy 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No. I believe some people are trans. There are multiple genders but only two sexes. I'm fully in support of people saying they feel more feminine or more masculine or like a mix etc. What bothers me is the deepening expectation that one always needs to DO something about that, to alter the body. To medicalise something normal and sign up to lifetime costs.

I don't understand why a male who presents as male but feels.feminine inside needs to use women's toilets. I'm down with TW who are presenting a different gender using them. I'm not down with TW forcing women and kids to call their exposed bodies female. I'm not down with medically transing kids. I'm not down with working class girls saying goodbye to sports scholarships.

He doesn't - or shouldn't. But when he puts stereotypical feminine accoutrements on he's signalling to people that he wants them to call him "she". I get that. It does get very tangled because we don't have to. But I suspect it's the same reason that TIFs like beards or working out to look hyper masculine. So people judge the exterior as trying to fit into that binary.
