So this TiF gets arrested and when asked, says she wants to be jailed with women because she'd "probably be safer" (shocking!). But then she complains when the jail doesn't immediately puts her into the women's jail, but instead follows its policy of putting transgenders into restrictive housing (solitary) until a review of their status by the Transgender Review Committee (sounds like something out of Monty Python).

Someone needs to email this article to Gavin Newsom and Scott Wiener and ask them what possible reason a "transman" would not want to be considered a man when it comes to prison?

"I was like, 'Probably the females.' I'd probably be safer there because obviously I don't, like, fully pass as a man,"

Is anyone going to tell her the bad news that even if she "fully" passes as a man, she's still going to be a biological female in a male prison.

[–]BEB[S] 18 insightful - 5 fun18 insightful - 4 fun19 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

The delusion among these people... And she has such a feminine face too, so I think that at best she would look like a feminine gay man, which has its own dangers in prison.

[–]meranii 12 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

So if she "fully passed" she'd go to a male prison? Yeah right. The LIES they tell themselves and others, sheesh.

I'm really sorry but I find it hard to sympathize with her. And she hasn't got a nursing degree, she probably just did the EMT-B cert (hence street medic) and calls herself cool names because that's what they're like.

How weird where they draw the line, eh? Almost as if trans men are not men? Le gasp!

What sort of actual nursing program can you graduate at 19 ? I'm smelling some serious bullshit. Unless this person was some sort of grade skipper and graduated HS early; even then there's no way this can be true b/c those kids get snapped up by colleges, especially once you start ticking off diversity boxes such as female, trans, hispanic. This person would have walked into any number of schools, probably with scholarship money. Journalism, 2020.

I noticed that too.

Did you notice that "he" had a boyfriend? Confused straight young woman wants to LARP as a man until the shit hits the fan...

[–]Shesstealthy 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

His boyfriend could also be a TIF.

[–]BEB[S] 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

I did consider that because we do live in that crazy a world that two women could LARP as a gay male couple.

[–]Finnegan7921 18 insightful - 2 fun18 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Could you imagine the absurdity of that ? "We're just two guys with vaginas, let's be together !" The mental gymnastics these people engage in to justify this stuff to themselves must be exhausting.

[–]Chunkeeguy 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Absurd but not at all uncommon on the various trans and former lgbt Reddit subs. In fact, I've even come across one instance where they detransitioned and became lesbians.

[–]Cantstopthemachine77 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, technically, they didn’t “become” lesbians after detransition, they were always were in a lesbian relationship, just larping as gay men.

I saw one on a show once, they had a ton of foster kids and were very sweet. They weren't young.

[–]BEB[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

See with older women I'm kind of WTF? I would hope that older women would have more of a sense of self and be proud of being a woman. But it's their lives.

With younger women, especially this girl's age, I can sort of understand, because if I were to grow up as a tomboy now, with all the violent degrading porn, the hook-up culture forced on girls, the expectation of anal sex, the sexting, who knows if I would have identified as a gay man to escape it all?

We know that a lot of the kids transitioning have mental health issues, including depression, so I'm sure that a lot of these young TiFs are very sweet, empathetic people.

But I do find it offensive that men are LARPing as me, so I would understand if gay men would be a little irate at a gay male couple made up of two women.

Also, the article says Uribe's day job at the time of arrest was working at a grocery store. Seems a strange job for someone who supposedly holds a nursing degree/certificate. Especially in the midst of pandemic. You'd think maybe if Uribe was really a nursing graduate, she or he would be working in health care.

[–]BewitchedSam 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

There is a program in their region that allows high school students to enter college if they have junior standing and a high enough GPA. They likely finished their AA around 17 and then completed a 4 year degree at 19.

[–]Finnegan7921 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

That math doesn't add up. Junior year is 16-17, a 4 year degree ends at 20-21, so this person would still be a year too young since her age is listed as 19, having graduated 5 months ago. Also, the fact that this person was some sort of star student who qualified for early college was never mentioned, which it certainly would have been. The institution whuch awarded her nursing "degree" is never mentioned. This person was almost certainly larping as a "street medic" b/c she took a cpr or first aid class for a semester in HS.

[–]BewitchedSam 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Junior year isn't necessarily based on age though. They could have junior class standing and be younger. They also could have been enrolled full time through summers and graduated early. The point is moot either way. Like previous comments have said I don't see someone academically motivated or gifted working at a grocery store after graduating with a nursing degree. Its also possible they went through CNA training which is significantly shorter but again it doesn't make sense for them to be working at a grocery store when CNAs make more money. You bring up a valid point they very well could be someone with first aid/ cpr training pretending they have greater knowledge than they actually do. A lot of trans people seem to have an ego so it wouldn't surprise me.

Edit: typos

[–]MarkTwainiac 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Also, when your entire identity is based on a lie, lying about all sorts of other things becomes second nature. As the sexologists who've worked closely with the trans population pointed out many years ago, whilst as Dr House says "everybody lies," people who ID as the opposite sex tend to lie a whole lot more than the rest of us - many are pathological liars and fabricators.

Or to put a kinder spin on it, they are full-time fabulists.

[–]blahblahgcer 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You can graduate with an undergrad degree at 19. A lot of people in the area start school a year ahead for some reason. Most of the people who did that program were young for their grade.

[–]Tovasshi 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

There's a 2-year practical nursing program in some places. A LPN doesn't have the same responsibilities as an RN.

[–]MarkTwainiac 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

But given that this person lives in or somewhat near Seattle, epicenter of the USA's first big COVID-19 outbreak, it makes no sense she'd be working in a grocery store.

In March, the WA governor & state agencies put in place special emergency measures calling for & enabling anyone with any kind of health care training - licensed or not - from within the state as well as from other states to work in WA medical settings to make up for the staff shortages in those settings. When it turned out several months later that many HC workers in WA had gotten sick due to COVID, additional calls were put out for anyone with any kind of medical training to pitch in.

Yet this person supposedly with some kind of nursing degree/certificate or experience was working in a grocery store? Seems not to ring true. But then truth is not trans people's strong suit, is it?

[–]Finnegan7921 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah, but she'd have almost certainly had to graduate HS, which she'd have had to do at 17 or younger. So she is either young for her class year or graduated early b/c she is an excellent student, which begs the question, why not go to college as someone who ticks all sorts of diversity boxes and could easily be admitted to plenty of schools. Seriously, this person is an admissions officer's wet dream. A hispanic, trans, female ? Winner winner, chicken dinner ! They would be bragging about how much scholarship money they awarded this person.

Also, if she actually had a certificate, there is zero doubt in my mind it would have been mentioned as in "who is a licensed practical nurse.." instead of how it was worded in the article. There are all manner of people claiming to be "street medics", just like there are tons of "press".. they use these fake titles to drum up extra sympathy when the cops beat their asses...one of these shitheads is going to end up trying to emulate a technique they saw on a hospital show and kill someone.

[–]blahblahgcer 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The area has a "running start" program where you skip to college at junior year of high school. I don't really know how it works, but a lot of people graduate at 19-20 around here because of it.

[–]worried19 15 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

I feel bad for the kid. 19 years old. Looking at those pictures, it's hard to believe anyone would ever mistake Uribe for a man.

We may think many of these young people are misguided, but what do we want them to do? It would be dangerous for someone like this to be jailed with men. I'm just relieved Uribe obviously has enough sense to see that. There's no reason for this kid to be in isolation, either.

[–]BEB[S] 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

She was put into isolation because that's standard protocol for transgender prisoners until the Transgender Review Committee can decide where they are best housed. I'm guessing that once the reality of jail hits, a lot of TiFs realize that they're female after all. Go figure...

[–]worried19 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I don't get why an obviously natal female prisoner requesting to be put in with other female prisoners would need any special review, though. It should be automatic. There should only be a review if Uribe was demanding to be put in with men.

[–]BEB[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I'm guessing that the prison put her in solitary to ensure that men and women get equal treatment: TiM prisoners and their deep-pocketed funders, seem to be very litigious, so I'm sure that if they let TiFs access women's prisons immediately, there would soon be a TiM screaming something along the lines of, "How come he (meaning the TiF) gets to go straight to the prison of his choice and I have to be in solitary?!?!?"

[–]worried19 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Could very well be. The prison has to seem neutral regardless of sex. I suppose it wouldn't be considered fair to treat females differently from males.

[–]Shesstealthy 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It seems like a failure of communication. They didn't tell this person that they were being given this protection because of being trans specifically.

[–]BEB[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

She (the TiF) doesn't seem very bright. And I'm sure the whole experience was terrifying for her.

The police are sometimes aggressive towards protestors - I saw it firsthand when I protested Iraq War II. They would scream at us to get on the sidewalk when we were already on the sidewalk. And the protestors at the anti-war rallies I went to were mostly well-dressed professionals on their lunch hour, and middle-class moms pushing strollers, so not exactly a fearsome mob.

And that was years ago, before the police got all the US military equipment and started training in Israel, which seems to have convinced them that we are all insurgents.

If they want to make choices for themselves, then they need to take responsibility for it. She's not a "kid", nineteen is above the age of majority, nineteen is old enough to drive, vote, get married, own firearms, and join the army. I think GC as a whole needs to stop babying "young" people. Either they take responsibility for their choices or we raise the age of majority and take that choice from them.

but what do we want them to do?

I want her to stop lying and stop demanding that we lie too. Biological sex differences are real. It would be one thing if her idiocy only hurts herself, but other people are affected too. Speaking of taking responsibility, she needs to take responsibility not only for how her actions affect herself, but also how it affects others.

[–]worried19 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I still feel bad. 19 is very young, maybe still a freshman in college. Yes, it's old enough to vote and go to war and all that, but people that age don't have much real life experience yet. I view Uribe as a victim, first and foremost. Primarily of the medical establishment, but also the numerous other people who should have stepped and offered real guidance and support. It could have easily been me in that position, if I'd been a little younger or in a more liberal environment.

I wonder how many trans women who don’t “fully pass” have decided to stay in men’s jail as a result? What... zero? I wonder why!

[–]Shesstealthy 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well this is the thing. Trans people have unique needs and demanding that society slot them into opposite binary boxes is shortsighted.

Also if you're a female man demanding to be treated as a woman is a minefield given that organisations have been told not to misgender you

[–]fuckupaddams 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's why the "trans women are women and trans men are men full stop, period, no ifs ands or buts about it, they are literally the same" thing is so stupid and dangerous.

[–]yousaythosethings 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yep, gender ideology does nothing to lift us up from the binary. It just greats a binary or men and non-men. Especially in cases like this where there is a refusal to acknowledge why both males and females want to be in a woman’a prison: the sex of the vast majority of the inmates there. You know that if all inmates in a women’s prison were trans-identified males, we’d be having a different discussion.

[–]materialrealityplz 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

These people really want it all... they want to be the opposite sex, they want it on their passports, they want society to see them that way. but... oh, not when it's inconvenient, like jail.

Stuff like females being in men's jails and recognizing bio sex reality is exactly some of the shit that the 'terfs' they demonize have a problem with. Funny how quickly they change their minds when it suits them.

Gawds, my eyes are so rolling so hard they are about to pop out of my head.

[–]jelliknight 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You get to pick one. Either being gender affirmed is important enough that male prisoners can be put in women's prisons based on gender feels, or prisoner safety is more important and female prisoners can't be housed with males regardless of the female persons gender identity. PICK. ONE. Is gender identity crucial enough to override safety concerns or not?
