While I agree with the women that children should not transition, I am under no illusion that they would be OK with gays and lesbians either. As some comments noted, middle class leftists underestimate the social conservatism of those they champion. He genuinely believed that they would come to his aid, and was shaken when he found them FAR more hostile than the man merely standing there with the sandwich board.

Was nice to see that one guy bat down the Marsha P's Brick of Freedom myth. I once again am fascinated by how certain events become canonized as history, such as Columbus needing to convince the Spanish that the world was round, or George Washington owning up to chopping his father's cherry tree.

Curious how much traction it's gotten? Gofundme seemed to peak right around the time of the pandemic, when there was a spirit of "we're in this together." Lately, whether its because of inflation or fatigue with people constantly asking for money, I've noticed a lot of the GFMs, even the ones that were about HELPING [INTERSECTIONAL IDENTITY] have not been meeting anywhere near their goals.

Personally, I actually was soft-hearted enough to donate to these sorts of things back in the day. Then I realized I was working my ass off in a warehouse job that many of these people (whom I knew personally) thought was beneath them. I remember one woman's face scrunching into a mocking scowl when she found out I was a forklift driver, and she spat the words out in a childish sing-song:"A FOOORKLIIIFT DRIIIIVER!!!!" Hell no I don't have money to buy you a tiny house, lady!

There's a weird motif of document alteration/forgery. Birth certificates are changed, as if the doctor accidentally marked "F" on December 3, 1989. There are services where people will photoshop childhood photos in a gender-affirming manner (e.g. giving the photo of "boy you" pigtails and a pink dress in a photo of you sitting on grandpa's lap).

From my experience, most of the salt on Mother's Day and Father's Day comes from people who had bad relationships with theirs. They will attempt to somehow spoil the day for others, who have privilege or something. They usually do nothing more than make shitty comments on someone's FB post about how fun it is hanging out with dad on This Special Day.

I've occasionally seen people ask "what about non-binary parents?" and things like that. These amazingly outside-the-box people who are unbound by society's conventions are unable to come up with their own holiday.

When I was depressed I didn't want sex, because I thought other people would find me disgusting to look at. You are likely on to something. The number of "asexual" people who look at pornography is also high too. I talked to someone who had a term for it, another one of those "ace spectrum" microsexualities.

The sexuality is there, it is just transposed onto electric statues: mute, pornographic images that are only a shells of the living, breathing people they came from.

The Charles/Charlotte Clymer rabbit hole is wacky. Once his male feminist mansplaining schtick reached critical mass, his mea culpa involved becoming a trans woman....who would proceed to tell women about how they didn't really know anything about feminism like he did. It is perversely impressive to see how many people fall for the act: the toxic know-it-all man, redeemed through lipstick and estrogen injections, eager to come tell his new sisters how much more he understands womanhood. And if they know what's good for them, they'll sit quietly and listen!

I started off thinking it was a clever parody of Price is Right contestant behavior. That dance at the end was manic, creepy, and desperate. An overgrown child "doing momma's favorite dance," not understanding no one else will ever find it as delightful as she does. I wanted him to get out of the way so I could see the handsome man behind the pool table.

The entire Dylan saga is a trip to watch. I know it's been said many times before about him and other, equally ridiculous people but: damn would this ever be some top shelf performance art! But no, the gleam of madness in his eyes is too genuine.

What's interesting is that pic of Dyland and Drew Barrymore on her show, where they kneel of the floor together, clasping hands. Do grown women ever do this with each other on talk shows? It was Hollywood slumber party bullshit, I expected them to tell each others fortunes and talk about which senior boys they liked. The infantile and infantilizing behavior between Dylan and his female enablers is a thing to watch. Whether they know it or not, a lot of them act like they are dealing with someone who they see as either a child or not mentally all there. I see it in IRL situations too when women comfort trans women....there is this cooing, simpering quality that I don't see them afford others, like they are trying to dissuade a particularly fragile preschooler from crying. They subconsciously broadcast their own disbelief.

She doesn't even advocate doing away with transgender healthcare altogether, just points out worrisome trends. The teenager not being aware of what certain medications would do to his body is a big warning signal. This is the type of scrutiny any sort of care should get, and you'd think even pro-trans people would like the idea of the process being improved: the right people would get the right treatment. But apparently the very act of walking through the door makes you "the right person."

As pointed out by others, even the practice of using the word "affirming" in trans healthcare is weird. The very process of going through the hormone and surgical procedures is marketed as this self-actualization process. This article in Vice talks about people who want unusual genital configurations (e.g. a vagina and a penis, or complete nullification): https://www.vice.com/en/article/4axp3n/trans-people-are-seeking-nonbinary-bottom-surgeries

I find it interesting that the article talks about "so-called transmedicalists," who talk about dysphoria being the main criteria for needing the surgery. Dysphoria is being used as the shield under which the surgeries are characterized as "life saving care," even as dysphoria is waved away as this narrow-minded way of thinking about trans issues.

This stuff is backfiring hardcore. The panicked landslide of videos and articles, "reviews" like this (which Wired has apparently gotten backlash for...the guy mainly reviews sex toys), stalking and harassment of people who stream the game, and on and on. It is opening a lot of eyes. And people are still just going ahead and buying the game in droves.

I'm not saying that the game's success (it is breaking records, though the year is young) is entirely a result of people giving the middle finger to naysayers, but there is a sort of Streisand effect going on with this game. The meltdowns are a mixture of hilarious and disturbing. I actually have met one such person documented on Kiwi Farms IRL. This individual has made hot takes such as "you gay men need to learn to like vagina, you are brainwashed," and has been an unpleasant ass in what few conversations I've had. I complimented an admittedly beautiful chalk drawing, and got a pretty frosty response. So I take great pleasure in seeing this person's displeasure. Crucio!

I love the fact that the trans character in the game is named SIRona.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, JK Rowling might really have magic powers, because she has been able to whip people into insane frenzies over her work for about 25 years now. Back in the era when Harry Potter hatred was a fundamentalist pastime, I remember being told that Harry was actually a Nazi because the lightning bolt scar on his face referenced the jagged "SS" insignia of the Nazis' Schutzstaffel division. Harry Potter = The King in Yellow. It is a text that drives people insane just from reading it.

This is still my favorite Harry Potter trolling effort ever, in which Rowling says wizards used to teleport their urine and feces into oblivion before adopting the use of indoor plumbing. Of course everyone ate it up: https://www.avclub.com/j-k-rowling-reveals-that-wizards-used-to-just-shit-on-1831501641

I'll be honest, I was really hoping that her essay would've made a larger dent in the numbers of grown adults identifying as Ravenclaws or whatever. I enjoyed the books, but Jesus, we're in our thirties now.

My work is trying to do everything gender neutral too. I watched this one video where a non binary woman instructed viewers to not use gendered language at all. My one takeaway was instead of "nieces and nephews" to use "niblings." I'm serious. Her entire demeanor was of a Kindergarten teacher trying to make sure everyone HAD A GREAT FIRST DAY AT CLASS, it was the most patronizing bullshit.

Niblings, my ass. You think if I go up to someone and ask if they have "niblings" they will even know what the fuck I am talking about?

I have used "they" when I legitimately don't know if I am referring to a man or woman ("Whoever was last in the breakroom, they really made a mess.") That's about it.

Between this and the "never let it be known that you would not date a trans person" tweet from a bit earlier, it would appear that the goal is to intimidate the (vast) numbers of people who would not have sex with trans people into silence, and let the trans/queer people control the entire narrative.

Yes, you were sold a lie. There is a very specific subset of guys who are interested in trans men. From my own personal experience, I've found that these guys have often been in relationships with women before. Two I'm thinking of in particular have children from their previous marriages, so perhaps there was some level of genuine enjoyment that they got from sex with their wives.

I will not begrudge two people who find happiness with each other, but it is unrealistic to expect most people to want you if you are trans, that's the cold hard truth. Efforts to tell people to "educate themselves" into wanting to doesn't help either, because genuine attraction isn't something you can "educate." People either think of trans men and think "wow, hot" or they do not.

On that second note about "educating," I remember an eye-rolly conversation with an otherwise decent guy about what a profoundly feminist, intersectional thing he was doing by dating a trans man....a non-white one! Yes dude, the entire foundation of white supremacist capitalist patriarchy will come tumbling down now that your penis has entered the brown trans man. A real V for Vendetta moment! The entire tone of the conversation became stilted and preachy at that point, and was so starkly different from what had been a really engaging and fun talk over drinks at New Year's eve. He seemed to sense that me and my roommate were now just politely listening, and we then went back into talking about the merits of various goth bands.

Slowly but surely, the "this never happens" wall is chipping away. It is definitely surprising that a transmasculine person is involved in this research, and I respect that Mackinnon confronts some of these realities head-on. Still, it was considered TERF demagoguery for years and years, with blogs such as 4thWaveNow, Feminist Current, and Gender Trender extensively documenting phenomena such as stalking of detransitioners. Rowling gets told to eat a bullet for stating many of the same things that have come up in the article. It appears that several university professors in the UK and North America of the old-guard feminist variety have had their livelihoods destroyed for suggesting such things as well.

Yeah, and I do try to mean this in as much of a "no hard feelings" way as possible. I don't like to make people feel like uncomfortable outsiders, nor do I like to feel that way. But if there has to be this much engineering of people's social and romantic lives, it makes you wonder who, if anyone, really benefits. Everything is a power struggle, and the only thing that weirds me out more than that is the absolute shit fit people throw when others try to go off and do their own thing. You are instead supposed to be present and submissive to their needs, and going through this ritualized process of acknowledging your privilege/complicity in oppression. I just honestly don't have time for that, especially after the lockdown. I have my own life to live.

One example I can think of is Michigan Women's Fest. Not my thing, and it doesn't sound like anything I'd enjoy if I had the opportunity to go. There were people who, instead of saying "well, let's do our own thing," made a point of going every year to just camp outside. Why? Why not just create your own event, and see who goes to that? Instead, there was tirade after tirade about, the, uh....evil women who wanted to go sleep in a field and wouldn't let you go along.

By all means, let people do a Themfest or something like it. Regardless of how I feel, there are a lot of people who do seem to identify with it. I just don't think it's appropriate to draw everyone else in with it. I would say there are a lot of unchecked control issues and insecurities within The Acronym, which I fear will prevent this sort of needed change.

It's time for the alphabet to split up. Yeah, I've met trans and enby people who are pretty cool on an individual level, but there are too many differences between us to be considered "community." And to be frank a lot of the lesbians (many of whom are they/thems) and the gay men always have this unspoken, simmering resentment between them anyway, so why bother trying to keep everyone together.

Instead of tearing you limb from limb and devouring you, she will simply begin reciting Judith Butler to you, not letting you leave your home until you starve to death.

The process of recording this video, and so many like it, is so bizarre.

She is alone in her room, basically looking into a surrogate mirror (I'm sure she is watching herself on the phone) and chastising her reflection for its moral failings while pretending it is someone else.

It's a surreal age, the computer age. So much potential for improvement to society and the human experience, but this is the kind of stuff we get too. Lonely, angry people broadcasting their screams into the void for posterity.

I've even met people under that banner who I find to be personally likeable and engaging. But at the end of the day, I just do not believe that the world works the way they say it does, and am not going to change my vocabulary and self-conception to fit it.

What sucks is Marsha had nothing to do with any of this shit. His last years were spent living with a friend, who took him in after it became clear he was unable to care for himself. He did not pop up and say "hey, I am the trans woman responsible for gay rights." All of this was legend created years after his death, when he could not speak.

Some would say that "Marsha didn't have the vocabulary to realize" that he was actually a trans woman, but people knew about transsexuals in the 1960s-1990s. I believe Marsha was quoted as saying something about how he was not a trans women ("some people take hormones so the muscles fall out of their arms" or something to that effect).

As for the "lack of vocabulary" argument, I find that to be at odds with another idea that is currently being promoted, which says that young, pre-verbal toddlers are able to determine their true gender identity.

I feel that trans health care is having its "pill mill" moment. Much like the scandal of opiates being overprescribed by certain doctors, there is now scrutiny of gender identity care both in the UK and USA, specifically around 1) the age of the patients being given these treatments; 2) the ease at which these treatments can be given; and 3) the lack of "gatekeeping." On the last point specifically, there are people who have incredibly unrealistic expectations as to the outcome of the surgeries they are getting, and they are basically being told to sign waivers to cover the doctors' asses.

There is a doctor in Florida who is getting some attention right now, Sibdh Gallagher. She was featured on the Jazz Jennings reality show, and has become famous for advertising her services through TikTok ("yeet the teats").

I'm reminded of the news stories of black market procedures in which trans women would check into a motel and some guy would inject their buttocks with industrial silicone. It's the same sort of thing, preying on deeply disturbed individuals who do not truly understand what they are getting themselves into. Only this time it is given a sheen of respectability, referred to as "life saving care."

I remember the Lady Valor documentary coming out several years ago. He is very high-profile, and I am curious if he is getting any sort of blowback.

Other articles about his detransition talk about the eagerness of his therapist to diagnose him as trans. I am wondering when this shift took place in the therapeutic community, because there used to be a much more drawn-out process to undergoing any sort of medical procedures. From my understanding, one was supposed to live "as a wo/man" for about a year before hormones and surgery were ever on the table. Not that I really believe those things are really a solution, but holy shit, the ease at which people are being put on these drugs and then going in for surgery within the year is staggering.

Both this and the Pulse shooting had very weird cross talk about the motives of the shooter. There was talk of Mateen, the Pulse killer, at first being a closeted gay man and there were even interviews with a guy who claimed to have had sex with him. I attended a ceremony where the speaker said that Mateen was driven by society to hate himself and his sexuality, and so had lashed out by carrying out the killings. The FBI dismissed these theories however. Apparently Mateen did cheat on his wife, but only with other women.

His connection to Islamic fundamentalist terrorism was definitely true, but some have even wondered if he targeted Pulse specifically due to the clientele. He apparently typed "Orlando clubs" into a search engine shortly before doing the deed, though a lot of gay bars will be designated as such when you make searches like that. There was the possibility, however, that those at the Pulse bar were unfortunate enough to simply be the most convenient target.

What does not change in either case is that innocent people were horrifically murdered. Probably the most haunting "WHy Did he Do It?" shooting for me is still Sandy Hook. All I see is the haunted, wide eyes of the shooter, and apparently he destroyed nearly all the evidence of what his motives were.

I've heard about the Michfest connection before, but this article is the first I've heard of the biker gang angle. The scant coverage this story has gotten really speaks to 1) Big Alphabet's institutional capture of the media industry, and 2) what a recent development that has been. Can you imagine what would have happened if this story broke about a decade or so ago, to say nothing of the 00's or 90's? Tacky as it sounds to say it, this case has all the ingredients of an especially lurid 20/20 story from that era: transgender teachers "gone bad," bloody murder, sexual jealousy, secretive lesbian gatherings, and motorcycle gangs. All that red meat, and the media is curiously, conspicuously afraid to get close!

I really wish the "Radical Trans Feminism" website's essay on taking everyone's relative oppression into account when dating was still up. It really did provide very good insight not only into the "Cotton Ceiling" discussion, but a lot of the modern discourse that aims to make dating an intersectional hellscape. It was something entitled "Dating Along the Oppression Scale" or something like that, and it was brought to my attention on reddit, in the pre-purge days. Long story short, those with certain "privileges" had a moral responsibility to give sexual access to those who had less privilege. This was stated as a REQUEST or a DEMAND (in caps lock, really), depending on whether the author was talking to men or women, cis people or trans people, etc.

Why t4t but not cis4cis? In a nutshell, because cis people have privilege, and that must be destroyed. This thing really is some Cultural Revolution shit, where they are going after "class enemies." Sexual boundaries are seen as a means of power maintenance, and therefore something that "class enemies" should not have. Yes, there are differences between this and what happened in China (or the Soviet Union, for that matter), but I do think there is a similar mindset.

A situation like this was one of my first exposures to "gay FTM" stuff, and the early phase of my peaking. Two of my roommates got married. She transitioned after I moved out, but I was exposed to the concept of "my husband is being difficult and won't accept the fact that he has always been gay, what with my being a man and all." The hidden identity that she carried inside herself was supposed to trump all reality, meaning that even when she gave no hint of it, SHE WAS ALWAYS A MAN, and the man she was in a relationship was gay since he had willingly entered a relationship with a "man." He divorced her ass.

The final straw was her posting links to thinkpieces on trans dating being a necessary component of allyship, and watching her tear into a black FB friend, saying she "of all people" ought to know better than to say that it was wrong to tell people they were bigots for not dating a transman.

A very eye opening experience.

The same people who would scream in your face if you said "All Lives Matter" are now infuriated that you are not using the most inclusive language possible when referring to abortion. Many of the euphemisms that are supposed to be used ("womb bearers") seem disturbingly close to "breeding stock." It sounds like something I would hear in a Coneheads sketch ("Greetings Mr. Jones, at what date do you and your womb-bearing companion expect that the impending larval human will be hatched?"). Even if things were the way they said they were, and men and non-binaries got abortions too, abortion would be overwhelmingly a women's issue, to a greater degree than police violence against black people vs the general population ever was.

For all the talk about "rich cis gays," I don't really see it much. There are certainly groups of men who can afford to do all the cruises and circuit parties and whatnot, but they are a minority of a minority. I am a truck driver dating a guy who works at a food production facility. We are keeping our heads above water, and this is in a small city in the Southern United States with relatively cheap rent.

In general the idea of major cities (New York, London, etc.) as a place easy to "be yourself" as an emerging young person--regardless of whether you are gay--died with the 20th century. Sounds like a fun time for older friends I knew who got to experience it, but that's not the reality anymore.

So if people identify as animals on the inside should their partners be arrested for bestiality? And people who identify as toddlers in those "daddy/little" relationships, are their partners guilty of child molestation? And for that matter, should those people have voting rights? After all they don't identify as people who have reached the age of majority. No more driving or alcohol either.

Also, let's do away with "first woman to____" from now on, since the number of closeted transwomen throughout history have no doubt already filled that niche. From law to politics to art to even the vote itself, women have always been represented, which is something those TERFy suffragettes don't want you to know.

A big chunk of those "heterosexual" relationships throughout history were actually queer as fuck, with plenty of gay and lesbian PIV sex too, which really makes you wonder just what it was those gays were fighting for. There were plenty of men out there for them, they just refused to see them as such. This is why, at its heart, the gay rights movement was about a bunch of short sighted bigots who denied the manhood of millions of people with uteruses, callously ignoring them in favor of beings who have arbitrarily been defined by our patriarchal, racist society as "men" based on irrational, culturally biased focuses on physical characteristics.

I've started pre emptively blocking on the apps. Clears up my grid. From what I've heard HER requires you to state the reason why, but Scruff is no questions asked and has so far allowed me a pretty generous number of blocks. I don't even bother with Grindr. I've yeeted trans people, some lady named Angela who called me handsome with a little heart emoji, married guys, obvious meth users, and other guys I'm just plain not into. I drive trucks now, so I run into lots of people.

Realizing you aren't for everyone is an important part of the dating/hookup app/cruising scene. Sometimes I've been genuinely surprised by people who I consider "out of my league." I wouldn't consider myself ugly, but I have a very large frame, a hairy back, and tend towards being overweight or obese if I'm not careful.

I flat out had a bartender I knew IRL say "hey...I think I'm gonna go with someone else" after I gave him nude pics like he asked for. You know what I did next time I was in his bar? Waved at him, sat down, ordered a drink, and we said hello to each other. He was still as chatty and nice as he was before he decided to take a chance on me on the app. I wasn't his type, maybe he did not want to caress my furry belly. It didn't mean he hated me, and I didn't detect any hate when he backed out of our potential fling.

I agree that referring to people as "rice" or other foods in terms of their ethnicity is fucked up. I don't believe in being insulting to anyone, no not even the trans people on the apps. But damn it you've got to get a thicker skin and realize you just aren't going to do it for some people. People's bodies aren't services you have a "right" to access.

It's one of the newer historical myths, like George Washington cutting down the cherry tree and owning up to it, or people thinking Christopher Columbus was insane for saying the world was round. It's even less specific in this case. The Marsha Johnson story has been very quietly retired, and is now more about generalized "black queer trans women smashing cops' heads in."

That being said, there were some unsung heroes who were black and GNC. My favorite is Lexington, KY's Sweet Evening Breeze. What was so interesting about him is that he was able to make himself a respected member of the community. In Kentucky. in the mid-20th century. I have family from there, my sister still lives there. My mother did meet him in the 60s when she went to college at UK, though she disapproves of crossdressing. She said sometimes he would dress as a man, others as a woman, and just walk down the street saying hello to people and smiling at them. Other family members have more fond memories of "Sweets."

There is something creepy about the starry-eyed, simpering adulation (usually accompanied with several GoFundMe links) they exhibit, and I wonder if they are going to snap one day. That sort of obsequiousness can only be maintained for so long. I'm reminded of the daughter from Native Son, the one that ends up getting smothered with a pillow.

There's probably a big, sad story about why she is this way, but I really don't care anymore. I don't know what's happened, I've just recently lost any shred of sympathy for people like this. I have mild autism. I became in love with a straight friend. I was able to figure out, despite my cognitively deficient abilities to process social situations and understand others' theories of mind, that despite my deep unhappiness he was not obligated to want me back. I also never developed the level of resentment that these people exhibit. I instead became very depressed, feeling that I would never find anyone.

Why the hell is it that a literal special ed student with a developmental disability is able to figure this shit out better than this self-described nurturer.

I think short guys can be really hot. My profile basically says something like "good luck on your journey discovering your gender! Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be a good match!"

It sounds bitchy and passive aggressive, but I'm not gonna begrudge that transmasc who finds the love of her life on the app....it's just not gonna be me. So far no trouble. Don't know if it's a coincidence, but I've been getting a better caliber of response since I made it clear I wasn't interested in meth users or closeted married men AT ALL, and gave a much more passive "no trans" message toward the end. Wish me luck. There is now a very concerted effort on getting gay men and lesbians to accept trans people sexually, and it's breaking out into the mainstream. What's so funny is this shit from HER comes not long after people became furious at the BBC publishing the article on lesbians being pressured by trans women. Hoping the wind eventually blows in our favor.

I'm sorry that its come to tech companies and glib, corporate LGBTQIAPP2S+ non profits dictating the terms of gay men and lesbian women's social and romantic lives. People kvetch about PinkNews on here a lot, but it's not like out and the Advocate are all that different, they preach the same stuff. Any UK users know what happened with Boyz magazine? There was a brief attempt to do some sort of takeover after the owner supported the LGB Alliance, but from what I heard it fizzled. Is that true.

Is there any popular site on the net that hasn't degraded into a far-left echo chamber that eliminates all dissent? It's downright dystopian to not even be allowed to civilly disagree. by JohnWhy in LGBDropTheT

Yeah, one of my IRL friends is on a major, almost daily tirade against anything JKR related, including that game. Fandoms in general have wanted their franchises to represent "progress," and they deeply identify with them. The number of 30-somethings identifying as Gryffindors before TERFgate was unbelievable. I've been getting lots of news feeds in my Facebook related to her. John Waters says she is the only person in the world he thinks should be cancelled. So many people to think of John, and you go for the one whose essay could basically be summed up as "I think people need to realize there are differences between bio women and trans women, and we need to come up with a system that protects both while recognizing these differences."

She is also being pilloried as "just like Putin" after he compared himself to her. Out magazine characterized her tweet decrying him as her "scrambling to distance herself from a murderous dictator," which is yellow journalism at its lowest.

I'm sorry. I also know people who've done this. Some of them do the very sorts of things talked about on this board, but in spite of all of that, there are things I like about them on a personal level. They do not seem like happy people.

I don't hate them, I just think it's odd to think your criteria for wanting sex with someone (making sure you really like them first) is worthy of its own sexuality label.

Some people are up for it with no emotional attachment whatsoever. Others are, well, I guess "demisexual" if that's what you wanna call it. I think it observes a very real facet of some people's sex/dating lives, but I would compare it more to a personality type. I like to go to a party and sort of chill on the outer edges and have a beer before diving in to the socializing, but that's just an aspect of my personality.

Homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality and asexuality (I do think it's a thing, just misrepresented, misunderstood, and inappropriately claimed) are all about which type of partner one is interested in. Demisexuality does not specify these things, but rather the manner in which you seek these partners.

How should she send nudes to gay men? by Chunkeeguy in LGBDropTheT

It must be psychological torture to go from being someone who men paid to be with to someone who must desperately ask for tips on landing a man.

I've noticed that women who do various lines of sex work tend to like socializing with the gay community, and I know of at least two FTM people who did stripping, porn, and escorting/prostitution before transitioning. My theory is they find the gay men easier to deal with than the men who make up their clientele, and the ones I knew would talk fondly of gay men who were kind to them, helped them out etc.

Edit:This could lead to them identifying with and becoming emotionally and sexually interested in gay men, seeing them as a better alternative to heterosexual men.

Life "as a woman" might furthermore seem false to them because they would have to take on false airs as they performed for their clients. Whether they find these men attractive or agreeable is irrelevant in sex work; they must perform certain acts to get paid, and they may have to mold their personalities to fit the situation the clients are looking for (e.g. being submissive or dominant). They may think living as a gay man would allow them a better chance to become romantically involved with the gay male friend groups they have, as well as providing them an opportunity to escape the "falseness" they attribute to heterosexuality in their line of work. This may be the "loving men as a gay man" that some FTM people are talk about.

I'm not saying gay men are all these sweet, otherworldly angels that poor widdle women can't help but fall head over heels in love with. But I do think that these are factors that may play into certain FTM women's stories.

I think about a car ride I shared with one woman (who I like on a personal level, despite displaying a lot of the behaviors we talk about here) who shared stories of how difficult life with her ex-husband was, and how sex work was always striking a balance between making very good money and dealing with unpredictable and sometimes frightening clients. She liked hanging out with gay guys, and told me that she thought one of my friends was very handsome and sweet.
