Girlfriend Reviews is the duo of Matt and Shelby, a couple primarily known for their YouTube content. The two were streaming Hogwarts Legacy together on Twitch, but the chat quickly became toxic, with people berating the streamers by calling them bigots for playing the game and fighting with other viewers. According to Reddit user Bittucharya, who uploaded a clip of the incident, Girlfriend Reviews changed the chat to sub-only when the hate comments started, but then people started subscribing just to continue the harassment. Eventually, Shelby had to step away from the stream entirely.

Harassed just for playing the game.

. . . and the next time a TV network does a Harry Potter movie marathon, demand the channel be shut down!

I feel like buying all the Harry Potter books just to give them the finger.

Harry Potter isn't bad reading. The Ickabog is a fun novel too, and her mystery novels (under Robert Galbraith) are pretty respectable. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was a mess, though.

That's the one she didn't write lol I refuse to read CC.

Yeah. From my understanding she gets co-writer credit, because it was based off an unpublished story. Maybe it works better on stage, I don't know.

People say that but I'm not wasting my money to encourage bad fan fiction 🙃

I streamed them as audiobooks while working during the pandemic.

Rowling is great at character creation, and I like the overarching plot of the books. On the other hand, I get frustrated with some of the more illogical subplots and a tendency to be repetitive, as in staging the same scenes over and over, as in, "Now Harry will have another unpleasant run-in with Snape." The whole Goblet of Fire premise I thought was kind of ridiculous. Everyone knew someone was up with Harry's name being where it shouldn't be, but hey, let's just play along and see who gets killed! A kid needs a signed permission slip to go into Hogsmead, but if his name pops out of a magic cup, we can pit him against a dragon. Makes perfect sense!!

Agree. The Goblet of Fire was so concocted. The Triwizard Tornament taking place over a whole term was ridiculous.

Sorry, story time.

The women in my family and close friends (2nd wavers & a few are also lesbians) gather on a family member’s balcony to watch Mardi Gras parades. We like to dress up in group themes, usually with a feminist theme (like one year we all dressed as RBG, we’ve done Rosie the Riveter, etc). We don’t really talk about gender woo, so none of them know where I stand on the matter.

When discussing what to dress as this year, one of my lesbian aunts (middle aged, but definitely social media savvy) was insistent on Harry Potter professors.

It’s a silly thing, but it lets me know I’m not alone irl when normal people are getting more and more afraid to say what they really think out loud.

And yeah, I’ll probably pick this game up for my nephews. Or am I supposed to say niblings now?

Honestly I hope that this shit show will make people aware how unhinged TRAs and their trans ideology is. I see people who even support TRA cause to be ashamed of this crap so maybe something will change? Moderates will notice what's going on and realize how fucked up everything is? I really hope.

I love the fact that the trans character in the game is named SIRona.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, JK Rowling might really have magic powers, because she has been able to whip people into insane frenzies over her work for about 25 years now. Back in the era when Harry Potter hatred was a fundamentalist pastime, I remember being told that Harry was actually a Nazi because the lightning bolt scar on his face referenced the jagged "SS" insignia of the Nazis' Schutzstaffel division. Harry Potter = The King in Yellow. It is a text that drives people insane just from reading it.

This is still my favorite Harry Potter trolling effort ever, in which Rowling says wizards used to teleport their urine and feces into oblivion before adopting the use of indoor plumbing. Of course everyone ate it up: https://www.avclub.com/j-k-rowling-reveals-that-wizards-used-to-just-shit-on-1831501641

I'll be honest, I was really hoping that her essay would've made a larger dent in the numbers of grown adults identifying as Ravenclaws or whatever. I enjoyed the books, but Jesus, we're in our thirties now.

Since the game has sold well and broken play streaming records despite the impotent boycotts, TRAs- in a desperate Hail Mary, have resorted to mass-spoiling important plot points on social media.

Like the angry, petulant, immature and undeveloped losers they are. The detritus of society.

I can imagine how it'll be when it starts coming out on other devices. I was planning on buying it a couple days ago, but it won't be on ps4 until April. So excited to play

Funny enough, all the gay and trans people I know are stoked about this game. I’ll probably buy 2 copies (one for my boyfriend) when I can afford it.
