Twitter Bans Account Tracking Nancy Pelosi's Investments. by Tarrock in politics

Current top comment:

Nothing wrong with this, Twitter is free to remove speech from its platform that it does not want to promote. The person behind the account is free to track Nancy's investments over at Parler.

8 hours later, further down in the comments, the same user writes:

It'll never go to parler because Twitter has hundreds of millions of users. Millions can see his tweets within seconds of making a new post. He wont get that at parler. Without Twitter's platform, the person behind the account knows their tweets wont be seen in large numbers so going to Parler is not worth the effort.

[–]aukofthecovenant 14 insightful - 4 fun14 insightful - 3 fun15 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Originally, the NFL race-normed their Wonderlic test because if they didn't, they would have had to classify a huge chunk of black players as mentally impaired. So race-norming was good for blacks because it kept them from being labeled mentally impaired. But these days, there is money to be had if players can show cognitive decline, so now race-norming is bad for blacks because it keeps them from being labeled mentally impaired.

It's not about the tests, or the players' IQs, or race average IQs. It's about what's good for blacks.

these "refugees" were never vetted

Of course they weren't. Actual vetting might have turned up cases where people would have to be sent back. Would liberals really be able to muster the backbone for that? Better from their standpoint not to puncture the fog of ignorance, making it easier to virtue-signal.

none of them were willing to fight for their country

It's so ridiculous that the narrative is "These people helped us, so we must take them in because they believe in Our Values™ - that's why they helped us!" as if we're necessarily getting the most virtuous Afghans (virtuous by liberal standards). In reality, many Afghans helped the American forces because they were being well compensated. So we're not getting the most virtuous, only the most mercenary.

Your idea of genocide is too Hollywood. The U.N. uses a considerably broader and more mature definition:

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

Killing members of the group;

Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Which arguably doesn't go far enough, since lack of proven intent would not make the targeted group any less extinct.

This article shows some mockups of what the new engagement buttons will look like. The number of likes is still shown under the thumbs-up, but under the thumbs-down is just the word "Dislike". Only the video creator will be able to see the number of dislikes.

The article quotes a Youtube spokesperson as saying that the motivation is "because YouTube has a responsibility to protect creators, especially smaller creators, from harassment and dislike attacks". There's some blather about how this change will protect the mental health of creators, who I guess suffer mightily from artificially inflated dislikes. On the other hand, Youtube seems entirely unconcerned about artificially inflated likes. How strange...

don't make women feel there's no chance for redemption

Of course there's a chance for redemption - there always is. All women of this sort can, if they want, reject degeneracy in favor of our cause. One way to do that would be to prevent other women from making the same self-degrading decisions they did. Another way would be to vote for what needs to be voted for. I'm sure there are more.

Don't be surprised when women vote for a Nation's demise when they feel they can't atone for past shitty behavior.

This is a non sequitur and, coupled with use of the word "feel" in the preceding sentence, really underscores the cattiness that sometimes makes it easy for men to dislike women. Our cause is correct, moral, and necessary regardless of anyone's past behavior and regardless of what anyone feels. No one should lose sight of that.

[–]aukofthecovenant 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You are confused because you missed a crucial distinction. The blame for black crime must ultimately lie with blacks. The blame for white people's attitudes about black crime lies with whoever influences those attitudes, i.e. the media (in very large part, though not completely). If some black youths kill a white man over $1 and are sentenced to probation and an anger management class, it's local news. Most Americans won't hear about it let alone get angry about it. Reverse the races and it's a national outrage.

Think of it like this. If you never left home, so that your only knowledge of the outside world came through your TV, and I as a media exec decide what is shown on TV, I can arrange it so that no news of black crime ever reaches you. I can also show you only reports of gruesome crimes committed by whites. You would then waddle away with the impression that blacks are the most pacifistic creatures ever to walk the earth while whites are just irredeemably venal. Who deserves blame for what in this scenario?

What are your best arguments against multiculturalism? by [deleted] in debatealtright

[–]aukofthecovenant 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

By "multiculturalism" I mean the view that large numbers of people from any two cultures, no matter how different, can live under the same government with as much or more harmony than there would be if there were only one culture. It cannot work because sometimes the government must take a side. For example:

  1. "Bake the cake, bigot". Since the cake cannot be baked and also not baked, either the baker must be forcibly made unhappy or the gay couple must be forcibly made unhappy. If the baker had lived in a place where homosexuality was simply not tolerated, there would have been no problem. If the gay couple had lived where homosexuality was tolerated, there would have been no problem. Only because all three of them live where there are two parallel cultures that differ on the acceptance of homosexuality is there a problem.

  2. France's burqa ban. Same thing. A woman cannot both wear a burqa and not wear a burqa at the same time, so a decision must be made. But someone will end up unhappy either way. This would not be a problem if the Muslims lived among only other Muslims.

  3. Losing your head over free speech. Same thing, you can't draw Muhammad and not draw Muhammad at the same time, etc.

Rinse and repeat for year after year, with millions of people, and watch the unhappiness grow. Furthermore, for the goverment to enforce whatever decision it makes, it needs all the people under it to see it as legitimate. But that means it's asking for legitimacy from people who it is screwing over. That can't last forever. It also means that everyone has an incentive to fight and fight dirty for control of the government, the better to safeguard or impose their preferred culture. Who wouldn't want to live in a place where that happens?

You can see how the leftist position arises out of this situation. "If you just tolerate everything, there will never be any conflict!" They'll even make the tolerance compulsory.

It's always funny to me how mainstream media outlets like the BBC here sometimes will walk right up to the line of questioning a pillar of modernity, but not actually do it, and then act surprised when other people (e.g. us) go just one millimeter further. Case in point:

Largely, it's because in South Korea, women struggle to achieve a balance between work and other life demands.

I guess they knew how to win this struggle in the past, but then just forgot for some reason? Credit to the BBC, though, for naming the issue and not immediately leaping to man-blaming.

But faced with conditions that are not family friendly in South Korea, she is reconsidering her plans to have children.

Well, how did these conditions come about? The article never says...

She recently accepted a new job and had felt anxious about taking time off for maternity leave.

The first question must be "why is this woman working a job at all?"

She is also unconvinced by the incentives being offered by the government. "It's expensive to raise a child. The government providing an extra couple hundred thousand won won't solve our problems."

Not to mention that that money will have to come from somewhere. It's funny, though not surprising, that governments would rather mess around with money than actually take a hard look at root causes.

Only because the religion of social justice has no supernatural element. If SJWs ran around saying "Floydius, The God of Progress demands equality and sacrificial offerings of racists!" it would be easy to see it as a religion. But they don't. To actually implement "separation of church and state" there must be a common understanding of what constitutes a church and a state. To virtually everyone, religion means some number of supernatural deities.

[–]aukofthecovenant 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

What's interesting about laws like this is how they reverse the direction of justice. Consider a case like:

  • White woman strolls through park, sees sketchy black guy following her
  • White woman calls police
  • Police arrive, guy cries "Racism!" and cites the CAREN Act
  • Woman gets charged

However, for all we or this woman knows, if she had not called police she might have ended up mugged or worse. What, exactly, does Mr. Walton suggest she do that he would not call racist?

Laws like this make the risk for a white person of interacting with a black person go up. I'm sure that will help race relations. No one should be surprised if the result is that white people start seeking to prevent trouble by consciously avoiding black people.

Do you think global warming/climate change is real? Do you care about the environment? by 8thmonitor in debatealtright

[–]aukofthecovenant 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I know that global warming and climate change are complete nonsense.

Carbon dioxide and methane, among others, do prevent heat from being radiated through the atmosphere into space, and that energy has to go somewhere on Earth. It's no stretch to surmise that at least some of it ends up in the ocean or atmosphere thus affecting weather patterns i.e. climate. These gases are released by human activity.

The idea that countries need to unite or the world is gone in 12 years is BS.

It would be a lot easier to trust mainstream or left-wing sources on the whole climate issue if the people making claims would actually act as if the problem were as important as they say it is. If a blue-haired fat feminist walked up to me and said "Mr. Auk, on behalf of all leftists, I swear we'll give you any political compromise you want in exchange for [insert climate policy here] because saving the planet and the life on it is more important than [insert left-wing bullshit here]", I would gladly put our differences aside and hash out a deal.

I would be OK with giving leftists whatever they want in regards to the environment generally in exchange for whatever we want on demographics and culture. This should be an easy deal for them to make, because, after all, there is not a single item on the left-wing agenda that could possibly be more important than saving the planet, which they tell us is at stake.

Instead, all the climate stuff is just another plank among many in the leftist platform, another mandatory moral crusade, as if that's what anyone wanted. Though to be fair, the fact that the United States has effectively a two-party system deserves some of the blame for this situation.

Note that this is all completely independent of the scientific facts about climate change.

But I still care about the environment. I hate the plastic pollution result of mass consumerism and materialism. My love for animals and nature makes me support low-meat/plant-based diets. I hate street littering, and I wish we could plant more trees. I also hate the air pollution from cars that causes lung cancer in humans and hurts nature. I wish we could end coal, natural gas, and oil and rely on only wind, solar, other renewables, and some nuclear.

You and me both. The reason I'm generally comfortable with left-wing environmental positions is because they're basically our own anyway.

I don't think eating meat is that big a deal. Humans evolved to be omnivores. Just don't be a glutton, and show respect to the animal by not wasting its body. For that matter you could say the same about eating plants.

My takes on the environment have also put me against the GOP.

Don't worry about that. The GOP is not master over us and we are not the GOP. What matters is that your/our positions on the environment are in keeping with white well-being.

[–]aukofthecovenant 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

As with everything, weigh the costs and benefits.

Costs: Time, money, risk of becoming a leftoid, possibility of debt, possible earnings forgone

Benefits: Specialized skills, credentials, access to university resources (libraries, computers), maybe networking opportunities

If you want an occupation that would have required a college degree in 1922, it will still need one today and you should get one. On the other hand, you have universities now with degrees in stuff like "Hotel and Restaurant Management" as if people haven't been running hotels and restaurants for millennia already. If that's your plan for college, you should reconsider whether it's really necessary. At least make an attempt to get into the field first.

A possible exception to this rule is software engineering stuff. It is possible for an extremely talented high school graduate to get a software job without a degree, if he can show an impressive portfolio of projects that are close to what a company is already doing. If you don't have that, don't even daydream about this path.

At least some people in our sphere should aspire to worm their way into positions of influence and these often (rightly or wrongly) require credentials. This does not have to be everyone. It would be stupid for every DR man to spurn college in favor of plumbing.

This idea that people who are "racist" about blacks are that way because they haven't met any, is just the mirror image of the observed fact that people who don't live among many blacks have more positive views of them. It may well be that contact between races might make their beliefs about each other less outlandish and more realistic, but that sword cuts both ways.

In order to get votes, one must first get attention. It worked - I had never heard of this guy before seeing this thread. The problem is that thoughtful, dignified people, the kind who should rule, by their nature will not stoop to carny acts and so are at a competitive disadvantage against those who will. Electoral contests therefore have an inherent tendency to devolve into shameless showboaters all trying to upstage each other. The hope is that this tendency is countered by having a responsible electorate that doesn't get taken in by stunts, but universal suffrage means we probably don't have one.

It's all well and good that these exist, but for them to actually convert normies we need to have a presence in those subs. Take the black-white rape thread. The image has the url to the relevant report, yet the top comment is:

I highly doubt zero black women weren't rape by white men. That's clearly BS.

Translation: "I didn't actually read the document, I just assume they're lying because they're nahtzees lol".

There's a guy asking "what does the source actually say", someone replies with the link and comments "the poster is wrong, obviously, but i don't have time right now to write down the stats". Nowhere in the ensuing thread is it evident that anyone actually saw the 0.0 that is clearly present in the black rape victim/white perp cell of Table 42. There should have been one of our guys in the thread to screenshot the table with the zero circled in red.

This guy correctly notes that 25.2% (with an asterisk) of the black-victim cases have an unknown/available race for the perp. Someone should have taken him to task about how a victim could possibly not know the race of the perp and how that 25.2% should be interpreted in light of that consideration.

This guy should have been pressed on the whole "The reason why [BM/WF is more common than WM/BF] is a little more complicated, but it probably has something to do with the fact that we as a society percieve black people as more masculine" because that's a road toward racial realism, but none of our guys were around to do it.

This guy doesn't understand the difference between past and present. No one calls him out on it.

A normie coming across this page would see a meme that is outside the realm of permissible thought and a bunch of comments that wrongly suggest there is no need to think any more on the matter. And the normie, who is lazy, sees no reason to think they're wrong. So nothing changes.

It would be too obvious a brigade to necro a 5-month old thread, but we do need people keeping an eye on these subs who will step in and calmly, subtly, and non-wignattily draw the conversation the way it needs to go.

[–]aukofthecovenant 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was permanently turned off from conventional conservatism by its dogged refusal to stop being stupid about evolution in the 2000s. For about a decade afterward I was a liberal by default. I was peripherally aware of race-nuttery and gender-nuttery but didn't think they had any effect in the real world. Then sometime in 2016 I saw the feminist response to the New Year of Sexual-Assault-by-Muslim in Cologne and was utterly appalled by both. Later that year I saw a video of Ben Shapiro (I know) doing his thing at Yale or somewhere, and while I approved of his "owning the libs" I thought his positions relating to race were laughably weak. So basically I realized that left-nuttery does have real-world consequences. it needs to be successfully opposed, and conventional conservatism does not have what it takes.

Refuting the Absurdity of Hyper Relativsm, The Notion that Any One Person's Opinion Is Just As Valid As Another's by Richard_Parker in debatealtright

[–]aukofthecovenant 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you're mostly on the losing side of the argument as far as artistic or cultural subjects are concerned, and considering the way this "hyper-relativism" is usually employed. When your interlocutor says "who are you to say, everyone is entitled to his opinion”, what he actually means is "I like this thing, I don't understand why I like it well enough to articulate the reasons to you, and I don't like that you don't like what I like so please shut up".

It's not a question of refuting the claim "everyone is entitled to his opinion", taken to mean "everyone knows what pleases him" in this context, because that interpretation is simply the truth. You have to reorient the discussion around what people should like which is different. Normative vs positive. You have to move the other person from a world where the purpose of consuming art/culture is to induce pleasure, to a world where one uses art/culture to cultivate taste. That's a lot easier said than done. I find it helps to be as specific as possible about what you like about e.g. the screenplay of Taxi Driver, because you will be more readily understood and you will find it easier to talk about objective quality.

I don't expect this to work all that often. When I was young, I enjoyed listening to hymns at church. When I was older, I noticed how mind-numbingly simple the melodies were. Presumably they are simple because they're intended to be sung by the whole congregation, which includes people who are ... not savants. People like that usually are not going to appreciate Mozart's Der Hölle Rache the way an opera aficionado would, though it can happen.

suggesting that blacks commit crimes because of the color of their skin

Do you believe that race and skin color are completely interchangeable concepts?

as if they get up in the morning, realize that they are people of color, and thus decide to go stab people.

You expect us to accept that some people "will go crazy and want to stab random people" merely because they lost a job, yet you also seem to think it absurd that any black people would go crazy and want to stab people for any reason related to their respective races. Make up your mind. This incident may help.

The story of the murder isn't suppressed

Where did you first hear about this story?

the color of skin isn't important

You're missing the point, so I'll help you out. As it says: "If the victim was black and the attacker a white man, especially if he was a member of a right-wing organization, the tragedy would've wound up as front page news". Do you deny this claim?

Consider that, in 2020, 900,000 New Yorkers lost their jobs, and 436,000 are still out of work.

You are clearly insinuating that a bunch of formerly law-abiding people are now out murdering because they are suddenly out of work. That would be strange, since murdering requires effort whereas the jobless could just sit around and do nothing, incurring no risk of death or imprisonment. And before you go off on "Well they're killing people to get money to buy food!", note that in this incident that is clearly not the case because:

hardly seems implausible. The paper does not include the words "race" or "ethnic" anywhere, so the relevance to our thing is probably minimal. The only part of the abstract that raises an eyebrow for me is:

we found consistent evidence for beneficial effects of education on cognitive abilities of approximately 1 to 5 IQ points for an additional year of education.

which makes it sound like you can pump up IQ scores indefinitely by tacking on more years of education. Raise your IQ by up to 150 points by going to school for 30 years! Presumably the rest of the paper will make it clear what was meant by this sentence. For all we know, it's +1 IQ point per year for blacks and +5 per year for Asians or something.

It's especially common in political speech because it avoids giving the false impression that some political figure said something which he did not actually say, which could become a diplomatic incident. From the abstract in the third link, for the only one of the five studies that could possibly ascertain causality:

Study 5 found that people asked to imagine that they were living in a more racially diverse neighborhood were more willing to help others in need

In other words, the conversations went like:

Experimenter: "Imagine you're living in a more racially diverse neighborhood than you are now. Would you be more or less likely to help neighbors in need?"

Subject: "Well I don't want you to think I'm racist, so I'll say more likely."

Experimenter: "Aha! Diversity is a strength after all!"

From the fourth, which focuses on the case of Lewiston, Maine which Amren has more to say about:

Other recent findings that have shown lower levels of social capital amidst diversity may be a product of residential sorting, longer-term processes, or threshold effects.

In other words, the study was limited in the kinds of effects it could detect.

I'll be the one to state the obvious.

Because our movement is well outside the mainstream, the type of person most easily recruited is the outsider. Incel gamerbros are high on that list. So it's no surprise that we have lots of manosphere partisans in our ranks, especially considering that there really are legitimate issues relating to women that the mainstream simply will not touch.

On the other hand, because our movement is about all future white people, it is necessarily concerned with white reproduction and therefore with relations between the white sexes. We want and need white women on board. So our movement must contain an alliance, however uneasy, between manosphere partisans and non-retarded white women. The common ground should be the incontrovertible:

  1. Each white generation should be of higher quality than the last. This means that higher-quality people should have more offspring per capita than lower-quality people.

  2. White people should be happy. Part of this is high-quality people being happy having many high-quality children.

It doesn't much matter how these get done as long as they do get done. Modern feminism does not do either so there is an opportunity for a DR "feminism". It seems to me, though, that the people trying to devise a DR-feminism are the usual male crowd. I am unaware of any women who are articulating means by which #1 and #2 can be achieved (am I just out of the loop?). The result is that the manosphere types have the megaphone and this results in zero forward progress.

However I doubt that many women are going to pipe up on the internet to say "here is what you must do to get us to happily have kids". Even the Level 1 Manospherians know that the game does not work that way. The relevant conversations will probably take place one-on-one, offline, between women and men whom they trust.

You don't have to be a genius to walk dogs outside. Or play golf. Or even take the time to clean up your house and plant a garden.

While these all sound pleasant, you'll note that none are particularly useful to broader society. The question that must be answered is how to get average people (a moving target) to contribute something that moves civilization forward, even if any one individual's contribution is infinitesimal. I will be the first to say that many jobs today do not really fit that description, and that the people in them would be happier (temporarily, at least) if their lives were filled by leisure.

Technological progress requires that at least some people must work. Yes, there are people who will do advanced things as leisure, but they depend on a supply chain that eventually ends with manual labor. The scientist needs lab equipment, which needs microchips, which need rare-earth metals, which need to be extracted from the ground. I would want the miners to see their work as having meaning in the context of the scientist's work.

Humans have less spare time to settle down and start a family.

It's a mistake to blame this on a lack of spare time. How much spare time would a "career-oriented" woman need to have before she decides to stop being "career-oriented" and have a family? Unfortunately, the situation is one of chicken-and-egg because women and men in the same labor force puts downward pressure on wages, making it harder for one person to support another plus kids at the accustomed standard of living.

Our movement's goal should be to get white people to reframe their priorities so that "spare time" is not a consideration when it comes to having children. You don't look for time to do it - you make time for it.

White kids choosing to play video games all day, their life has more meaning than just being another cog in a factory.

Does it really? I think you conflate "temporary pleasure" with "meaningfulness". I also think you see "being a cog" and "having a meaningful life" as mutually exclusive which they are not.

Umbrella Man has been linked to Hate groups

Since I'd never heard this claim before, I'll save everyone else the bother of looking into it. "Umbrella Man" is the guy wearing a gas mask in this video. Minneapolis police made no headway identifying him for months until receiving an email tip saying that the Umbrella Man was one Mitchell Carson, who is basically a stereotypical skinhead type. Minneapolis Police requested a search warrant for that man's cell phone activity at the time of the window-smashing, which officials say/imply led to the Glorious Floyd Demonstrations becoming violent. This Mitchell Carson was, according to Minneapolis police, connected with a Hell's Angels biker gang and the Aryan Cowboys prison/biker gang.

There's a lot of loose language in the media reports about the investigation that (intentionally?) gives the impression that the police made a positive identification, proving that Umbrella Man = Mitchell Carson. In reality, the police were following up on a lead that appears not to have panned out. Carson was not charged at the time (late July last year) and apparently still has not been [1][2][3], so it is extremely implausible that he was Umbrella Man. The bottom line is that it is incorrect to say that Umbrella Man has been linked to hate groups because (still) no one officially knows who Umbrella Man was.

I think in this case the rich would just funnel their donations through NGOs and other types of "non-partisan" organisations. To an extent, this is already the model they are using.

My thinking is that "non-partisan" should count for nothing; no organization, period, gets to donate to political campaigns or organizations. So no NGO shell games, though you're probably right that there will be some whack-a-mole to enforce it. That shouldn't dissuade us from placing serious obstacles between wealth and power though.

can you imagine the headlines when a bunch of black cops end up being a bit too reluctant and refusing to police those areas.

I think that would enlighten a lot of normal people, which would be good for us.

  1. Diversity is not playing out as if it were a strength. For example, it is blazingly obvious that nobody cares when a white person is killed by police, or when a black person is killed by a black cop, but only when a black person is killed by a white cop, a situation that would not happen if not for diversity. Towards the goal of preventing race riots, we should as much as possible arrange to have blacks policed by other blacks. One way this could done rather easily would be to allow sufficiently black/white/etc areas (neighborhood, districts, towns, whatever) to request that they be policed only by blacks/whites/etcs and require police to respect that decision. I'm not sure that many places would make that deal, but they should at least have the freedom to do so. The long-term goal here is to make blacks more responsible for running their own affairs in order to make future separation easier.

  2. Media portrayals of people and events affect public opinion and therefore affect who wins elections. This means that the media has (indirect) political power, and as such the general public should be way more cynical about media people than they currently are. Rather than mandate something impractical like "journalists shall always report the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth", I think it would be enough to require that journalists identify themselves as whatever political orientation they align with. No more of this "our whole newsroom is left-wing, but we're an unbiased publication!" - at the very least, your readership will know that your whole newsroom is left-wing and can make their own judgments about the significance of that. We can tell the journalists it's like listing their pronouns.

  3. Ultra-wealthy people also have more political influence than is probably healthy. I propose that political donations be allowed only in one's capacity as a private citizen (i.e. no corporate donations), and donations per person per year be capped at a dollar amount pegged to the national median income.

An irony probably soon followed by that of the fastest sprinters still being blacks "from" various countries, the best weightlifters still being whites "from" various countries, etc. The "diversity" would just make racial differences more salient.

very little about U.S politics has changed all these years that makes politicians more trustworthy in the past.

There's a very relevant difference between trustworthy and trusted. One could argue that politicians of any time and place are never trustworthy, but that doesn't mean that people don't trust them anyway. The fact is that Americans trust their government at pretty much the lowest rate ever, which could just mean that they're wising up to what has always been true.

Media people like to say "Multiracial athletes like Naomi Osaka and Rui Hachimura are helping to redefine what it means to be Japanese", but somehow they never get around to making the equally valid claim that they are redefining what it means to be black. Funny how that is.

many of us dont like kids and dont want them. i know thats impossible to wrap your head around right?

No, that's fairly easy to wrap around. The point is that obviously more people wanted more kids in the past, so something must have changed, and none of these prima facie reasonable government interventions have reversed the trend, so the people in charge must be overlooking something important. We here have a range of ideas about what it might be.
