Older and wealthier people often have a preference for stability; they’re closer to retirement and more likely to be facing medical needs, as they are later in life.

And more likely to be cold-cocked while walking down the street by vibrant, diverse youths who are turning their lives around. Surely there's no connection.

No. The older and richer you are the less likely you are to be a victim of violent crime. Statistics from literally everywhere on the planet in every time show that.

You clearly misunderstood the point because this:

No

is self-evidently absurd. What is true is that old wealthy people can and do structure their lives so as to avoid thugs in the first place, hence the stats. Obviously they have every incentive to keep doing that, which is basically what the article says they are doing.
