If I were more enthusiastic about economics I would have put Adam Smith. Newton, Darwin, and Smith are all Englishmen who perceived "invisible hands" - people like that would have interesting things to say.

Adam smith is a bit cringe no? There must be a nationalist/socialist/fascist economist more worthy but I’m not well learned on the topic

I doubt he would call himself a nationalist/socialist/fascist, but check out Steve Keen. At the very least, time you spend reading his stuff is time you don't spend bitching over which historical personages other people find interesting.
