As several communities were thrown into heightened political, socioeconomic, and medical vulnerabilities through COVID-19, BLMGNF sought to ensure the survival of some of society’s most vulnerable: Black LGBTQIA folks. Of the 30 organizations selected, 23 of them are led by Black LGBTQIA folks and/or directly serve these communities in places like Chicago, New York, New Jersey, DC, and Alabama. Our selected organizations are listed below. We have committed a six figure grant to each of these organizations

Intersectional feminism is failing Indian women by BiologyIsReal in GenderCritical

I will say, when I went to a disability rights conference, I heard about feminism before disability. Intersectionality was pointing out that disabled women are significantly more likely to be abused and have many more barriers to leaving. Intersectionality, like most theory, can be used in a good or a bad way. Right now, it acts as a distraction to hide the universal women's issues. Though I think there is an argument that it is more a symptom of the trans infiltration of "feminism" more than intersectionality. Trans involvement meant women's issues are now exclusionary.

Ok, misgendering it is. Also, how entitled to ask people their name when you meet.

  1. The expectation that I answer on demand (to strangers) about something that is personal, complex, and traumatic

Not that fucking personal. What do you want to be called?

And in the replies, when someone points out exactly what OP is on about here: “We” are actually all different. What some trans people find affirming is not what all trans people find affirming. Kind of like any community with infinity diversity. It’s almost like you have to treat all of us as individuals or something. inconvenient, I know.

I would have been their perfect ally. I don't care who you want to be in a relationship with, and that's all LGB was supposed to be about. I could even go along with using the "preferred" pronouns for people who were experiencing significant gender dysphoria until a better treatment for the underlying issue was found. But then gay started to mean so much more than just what genitals you like to mash. The kink in pride discussions got toxic af. And then thinking trans = dysphoria and we are all lying to slightly help became trusum/terf. It went from gender neutral things like allowing them to use the disabled to demanding access to womens spaces. If they'd just acknowledged it was a mental illness, they'd probably get more support.

More broadly anything to do with ableism in identity politics would be interesting as well.

I went to a uni student run disabilities conference. Being uni, rife with ID pol. Most of the time was spent fielding "anonymous" grievances because someone said something alphabet soup. One was someone getting seriously pissed when a younger woman with CP said she was tired of being viewed as asexual and wanted to be viewed as a sexual woman despite her disability. Complaint stated that the person needed "educating" about LGBT issues, as asexual people can be completely sexual. It ended with half of us leaving to run our own sessions because disability advocacy totally needs peer support to learn how to do this shit. There isn't as much of a "guide book" on this. If you were running the womens collective, there's almost a text book saying what events you should be doing, and the splits just come between rad v lib.

I feel like you missed my point. Is the problem the fact that women are being paid for sex, or the abuse? If hypothetical world allows for safe sex work (maybe decrimalise, regulate, make it easier to NOT have a pimp for sales and "protection"), would the idea of women using sex appeal for capitalistic ends still be a problem? Also, you do know women look at porn, so it's not all about poor peepee.

Fuck, there is an entire subset of sex work that is devoted to people with physical disabilities that cannot get anything even approaching intimacy otherwise. Is that as bad as a queensnake video?

The general concept of consent not actually being consent within the radfem discourse is probably the thing that I found difficult with the group. Consent is always questioned, with the radical and of radfem saying all hetero sex is rape because women can never truly consent away from social pressures/.

I could go on for pages and pages about this. It's obvious in LGB circles, but it's happening in race and disability as well. And it tramples real issues. Can we just have T all on it's own? It's not a sexual orientation, so doesn't belong with them. And it can stop hijacking everyone else./

Now you can just record someone saying "you are valid, your thoughts are legitimate and valid. You are allowed feelings, they are valid" over and over. And now I cringe when therapists use the word.

I was actually struggling with writing that out. I have my own axis II fun, and have had a lot of difficulty with accepting treatment. It's like they're trying to remove every element of who I am.

TERFs, I see TERFs everywhere... by Lyssa in GenderCritical

It got to the point where even the head of the uni queer group, a TiF, is sick of it all. I hadn't spoken to [insane one] that day, so referred to it in the third person by the name and pronoun I'd last heard. Nope. Gone from they to she, with a name change to match. TiF above corrects me, I roll my eyes, and get in response "i know, but that's what they want".

Changes every 2-3 days. Goes from "butch fem" to "fem". Still has a penis and won't shave the face. And it's in a queer relationship because the partner is (female) butch identified with they/them pronouns.

I finally figured out how this works. It was explained to me on fb that pronouns and gender identity are unrelated. So you can be a male, masc identified she/her lesbian.

I was in a meeting with a group of younger TRAs and one older gentleman. It was at uni if that sets a better seen. We go round the table doing name and pronoun (because some people have to change pronouns daily, it has to be done on every meeting). This person just says they go by "the normal ones". All hell breaks loose.

Transgender used to be all about gender dysphoria, now it follows a religion-like dogma. by [deleted] in GenderCritical

[–]Anonimouse 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's really frustrating, because intersectionality is actually a useful tool. I was recently studying anti discrimination law, and there's some good criticisms about how it overwhelmingly helps women who are already pretty well off. You need to have access to the institutions that enforce discrimination law, and intersectionality cuts people off. You see it with black women, where a claim has to be made on grounds of sex OR race. Show that policies allow for white women and black men, and it's all good.

It gets even weirder when you consider how the TRA discourse hated the idea of dysphoria as a criteria - that was just gate keeping. Now, there is no need to vaguely try and transition.

On one hand, we have taking lithium despite no bipolar. And then we also have claiming bipolar AND refusing treatment. Furthering the analogy, do we also have no bipolar, but wanting that sweet oppression point, so taking paracetamol in the form of wearing bad lipstick (makeup is a skill dammit) and maybe a skirt.

Current pop psych is all about the importance of validation. 20 years back, it was all about how you need great self esteem even if you are a piece of shit that shouldn't feel good about themselves. Now, everything is valid, everyone is valid. Your opinions and views are valid.

I've seen some try and pull out the male/female brain studies, although I believe they have never accounted for socialisation and neuroplasticity causing the changes. If you get rid of dysphoria, the absolute disgust at seeing a sexed body, then there is nothing left but borderline misogynistic social norms.

"Honestly, at this point, everything TERFs say about trans people could be true (it isn't) about 100% of them (it is not), and I would STILL support the Trans-folk over the TERFs. If I have to pick between a community that validates trans folk and a community that validates TERFs, I'm going with trans people."

So feels before reals, with a side of misogyny.

"Any real trans person who supports this is in the smallest minority. They may receive tons of likes, but that very well could be from bots or trolls."

So all the trans people who are doing this aren't really trans. I thought it was entirely self ID, and these people IDd as trans.

Sorry, I should clarify that I absolutely don't believe it. It's just how I've heard them get around the whole choice thing. A lesbian must like self identified women because twaw or something. Liking no penis in your women is a preference, and one that they liken to race to make it sound worse.

Genital preference. The sexuality refers to the gender you like. Trans women are women, therefore lesbians like trans women OR have transphobic genital preference.

From what I've encountered, because there is variation within the subgroup, it now means there is no subgroup. So, because some women are as tall as the average male, and there are some guys shorter than the average woman, height is now useless as a distinguisher. Can say the same to height, strength. Shit, there's almost certainly a guy out there rocking some DD cups whilst some women are flat chested, so even mammaries are uselss.

In uni, I vividly remember being told that there are fuck all visually distinguishing characteristics between men and women, and THAT is why society makes us work so hard to differentiate with makeup, push up bras...
