I was so shocked when r/gendercritical went down. I was doing my usual morning browse and then bam, reddit took away our "hate" sub while leaving misogynist porn subs up. What the fuck. I hope we can rebuild what we lost!

Of course we can! It sucks but we always knew eventually they would try to silence us. It just so happens to be that day!

We will have our spaces back because we are willing to fight for them!

As women always have and always will. We're used to not being handed things on a platter. It's one of the things that makes us so undefeatable.

Will we be re-launching the Peak-trans threads?

Same here. I was on GC for like 2 1/2 years and never once did I ever see someone write about committing acts of violence against TIMs. Completely ridiculous and I’m genuinely upset about this censorship. Goodbye reddit!

[–]Redditefugee 30 insightful - 2 fun30 insightful - 1 fun31 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Same here. I mean... what the actual fuck? Reddit may be a private corporation, and its only goal may be to rake in as much money as possible, but this goes way beyond that. GC can't have been costing them a penny.

Anyway, is saidit known to be less repressive and censurious? Or are we going to be repeating the reddit experience in a week or a month?

[–]sugar_gliderx 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I'd never been shadowbanned before. That was a weird experience. And then I realized just how ANGRY it made me, and what a blatant violation of free speech the ban was. It's becoming increasingly popular to ban "truth" in the name of reducing "hate speech." It's finally hitting home that there is still a continuous uphill battle we will all be facing, but I think this sudden ban helped push me over the edge. I'm now at the point where I'm fine with losing friends over this. I have plenty. People have to see how damaging kowtowing to the trans cult is for society and women's rights.

[–]LasagnaRossa 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

What pisses me is that controversial opinions are not hate speech. Death treats and unfounded offenses are!

Guys, this is exciting. This happened because we are -winning-. 65k members, one of the richest and most respected women in the world supporting us... England, the leader of this nonsense starting to roll back...

Damn right. They banned us because they know we are growing.

hi folks! The mods of the old place are looking at alternatives. We have put a statement on twitter. There's this article https://4w.pub/reddit-bans-feminist-sub-r-gendercritical/

[–]radfemanon[S] 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Excellent thanks! We have saved the sub name and also PinkPillFeminism from being high jacked, that was our intention to get in fast!

[–][deleted] 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (27 children)

This site will work fine for your purposes - unless you feel the need to crush dissenting opinions and create a new echo chamber in your own image. It's established, and has survived massive waves of reddit migrations and DDOS attacks.

[–]radfemanon[S] 37 insightful - 1 fun37 insightful - 0 fun38 insightful - 1 fun -  (26 children)

We have always kept on topic and discuss feminist topics, specifically gender ideology although we do discuss other radical feminist topics.

We don't have many spaces where we can talk amongst ourselves without being bombarded with questions designed to derail our discussions.

If I see something that I think is doing that I will remove it.

We are regrouping right now as the ban came very suddenly so we will need to make stickies and sidebar information to clarify what we seek from this space.

Until then we are settling in. Gender Critical is not an echo chamber, we debate and discuss amongst ourselves but we have key ideas that we all share and are unable to share elsewhere.

[–][deleted] 12 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 2 fun -  (25 children)

I understand your position. This whole site however seems set up so that someone like me can engage someone like you in civil debate. People like me may challenge the foundations upon which your ideology rests, not out of malice - but because we feel it's harmful. This could very well end up "derailing" a discussion or mutating it into a different one altogether, but that's the nature of debate. You can always ignore such people and carry on as if they aren't there. It's your right - censoring though is running against the grain of the existent culture.

Gender Critical is not an echo chamber, we debate and discuss amongst ourselves but we have key ideas that we all share and are unable to share elsewhere.

A place that's restricts conversation to only people who agree on shared principles, is by definition an echo chamber. I probably disagree with you folks on all core principles, yet there are plenty of extensions of those principles that would cause us to be on the same side in specific instances.

/u/magnora7 - What's your take on the stated objectives? To date I haven't seen any significant sub-level censorship here outside of spam. Would banning interlopers to keep discussion within editorialized boundaries be concordant with Saidit principles, or not?

[–]radfemanon[S] 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (19 children)

So far I have only removed comments with slurs in. I don't intend to alienate the site at large, which is why when we are able to we want to get the debate subs up and running.

Currently that's my only specific request in terms of conduct here - to avoid slurs, 65000 female users over on Reddit have now been made homeless and will likely trickle into this sub over the coming week.

I would only consider banning anyone from this space who are using slurs currently.

People are welcome to engage you in debate if they want to, it's just that they may not want to given the current circumstances.

[–]fuckCNN123 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I'm not recommending this necessarily but the most popular sub here is actually hidden from the frontpage unless you're subscribed. We're toxic and incapable of meaningful debate, so by excluding outsiders from the frontpage no one really comes around to hold us to it. Maybe that would be a good delineation between GC and whatever debate sub(s) you create - one serving as a more personal space and another involving the site's community at large. Maybe that's a terrible idea too, I'm just throwing out there.

All the same welcome to saidit and I hope you all stick around, it's great to see more intellectual diversity here.

[–]radfemanon[S] 18 insightful - 3 fun18 insightful - 2 fun19 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Thank you, I think separating GC and a GC debate sub is the best way forward. It means that those that want to debate have a space to do so but we will also have a space to discuss amongst ourselves. I would heartily encourage GC users here to engage with civil discourse until we can get the full range of subs set up.

I have specified some conduct around the use of slurs and I don't intend to start banning anyone, although I will remove comments with slurs in them.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

like they were saying above, there is the option with SaidIt's policies to use moderator rule 4b if you want to be pickier about what perspectives or people are allowed a sub:

4a) Mods cannot remove user comments that are both in good faith and on-topic.

4b) Mods CAN remove opposing opinions that are high on the pyramid of debate, and ban those users on that sub, if and only if the 2 following conditions are met: 1: The fact the sub removes opposing opinions is announced in the sub's sidebar. 2: The mods uncheck the sub setting "allow this sub to appear on /all"

It's an option.

[–]radfemanon[S] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks for that. It's something we will definitely consider.

[–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

I look forward to the debate subs - I'm not about to interject myself in things just to be an ass. I have more decorum than that.

[–]radfemanon[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Awesome, that's good to know.

When we get them up and running we will add them to our sidebar as sister subs.

[–]deepfriednuggets 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

Just asking, would y'all be open to running another GC sub that isn't just for women only? As a guy I want to discuss all these issues too, but I feel like I'm intruding esp. after seeing comments on GC Reddit previously pretty much telling dudes to screw off from GC and find their own space.

[–]radfemanon[S] 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes! We are limited in the subs we can replace at this time - we have all been made homeless so we are going to have to muddle through together for now.

If you are able to, you can make the sub yourself, if not it will be a sub I will get to once I am able to.

I am not going to ban anyone unless they are consistently using slurs or doxxing. We are settling in to the new site and will keep an eye on it.

[–]yishengqingwa666 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Hey, hi!

[–]homeless-g_c-mod 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

When communities are mixed sex, they become male dominated communities. Look what happened to TwoXChromosomes when it went default. For the moment, r/gendercriticalguys still exists. If you are concerned about that space going away, I would recommend starting a mirror for that sub.

[–]homeless-g_c-mod 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Why don't you run it yourself? Why is it the job of GC women to run a sub for GC men?

[–]deepfriednuggets 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Please don't put words into my mouth. I'm not saying that it's their job to do it for men or whatever you think I'm saying. Since the mods said they were looking to create sister subs, is it not reasonable to ask if they would consider making a general one for everybody. Evidently there's a lot of toxicity against men here, from the comments that I've already received from a simple question like mine.

[–]yishengqingwa666 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Uh huh.

[–]Diddykingsmackin 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

So you were censored and banned for unacceptable content, but you continue to censor and ban unacceptable content.... Why not leave the content up and simply downvote it?

[–]radfemanon[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So far I remove posts with slurs in. That's not censorship. It's very plain in the sidebar as rule 1. If people want to talk and give their ideas and opinions without the use of slurs they are welcome to. If those ideas amount to "women deserve it! Haha" that's not a clever nor unique idea and will get ignored.

I recommend any GC user at least temporarily get used to ignoring comments they don't like, unless they are harassing, using slurs or doxxing, in which case please report them and the mod team will deal with them.

[–]StupidHappyPancakes 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Is there even a downvote function here?

[–]WrongToy 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

R/gc was not designed as a debate sub. That's what you're missing. As to the evolution of this sub, it'll depend beyond one day.

[–]whateverneverpine 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly.

[–]avena_sativa_3 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

There's a moderation log here you can find in the "moderators" side-bar. Keeps the moderators accountable.

[–]radfemanon[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks, I didn't know that. I am dedicated to being a responsible mod and so are the rest of the mod team.

[–]spinningIntellect 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Name one place or scenario in which conversation isn't restricted by relevance or respect.

The important point to consider is if the restrictions make sense. Does not restricting speech mean fewer people are going to speak up due to fear of harrassment? Is gaslighting a concern? Is spreading misinformation a concern? Just because Gender Critical was UNFAIRLY censored doesn't mean that all censorship is bad. Death threats are a pretty good example of what should be restricted, same with doxxing.

[–]peregrine_throw 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We had someone do a backup before, remember? (if a backup helps?) but I can't recall who as my comment history on r/gc's been erased as well.

We await the announcement on @rGC!

All those rape/porn/barely-masked-pedophilia subs are not banned.

Do they really think GC is a hate sub? UGH!

Also disgusted by TwoXChromosomes for cheering that GC was taken down when the same misogynists that mass reported GC are howling for TwoX to be banned for hating men next. Typical LibFems hopping on any "woke" cancel wagon even if the next stop is their house.

[–]Classconsciousness 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'll admit at one point in my life I was on some misguided crusade against reddit myself. I'm older now and been involved in the left too long to not see how useless this is as a value. Only people who are wrong dont want people to see opposing views

[–]jet199 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There's certainly at lot of "They came first for the ..., and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a ..." going on at the moment.

[–]sltkr 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Give it time. They didn't ban /r/itsafetish either, even though it's arguably worse than /r/gendercritical. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

edit: /r/itsafetish has been banned.

[–]TheFemMyst 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

[–]littlerbear 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I just tried to get into itsafetish to see what's up. When I tried to message the mods I got an error message so they might be gone too.

[–]suzyquattrosshoes 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I couldn’t believe how huge the subscription numbers were for those subs when I first saw them. Couldn’t believe so many men thought that way. That was part of my awakening too. Yeah fuck Reddit.

[–]AbrasiveLace 42 insightful - 2 fun42 insightful - 1 fun43 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I was shocked when I saw r/Gendercritical was banned. When I heard about the upcoming mass bannings I thought for sure they might ban r/Itsafetish or r/TrollGC (which I see they did ban), but never did I actually think they would ban gendercritical. The GC mods were outstanding at keeping things well withing reddits rules and nothing that could be considered actual transphobia was ever posted. It's utter bullshit and just goes to show you how much Reddit, and the internet as a whole, hates women.

Thanks for carving a place for us out here. I mostly lurked over there, and will probably do the same here, but there's few other places to find actual women centered news and information and I genuinely appreciate it.

[–]sugar_gliderx 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Is /r/itsafetish going to come back on saidit? I literally just had subscribed to it maybe a week before the ban and was looking forward to more :(

[–]AbrasiveLace 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

r/its a fetish is still on reddit. They've just gone private for the time being. However, I'm willing to be though that they're up next on the chopping block, despite the sub only being screen shots of what trans people themselves are saying. I sure do hope that someone creates a version of r/itsafetish here in the event that they are cancelled. Same goes for r/Terfisaslur if they're also banned.

[–]sosorreal 41 insightful - 2 fun41 insightful - 1 fun42 insightful - 2 fun -  (23 children)

I honestly feel sick to my stomach. I called to tell my mom, but there isn't really anyone else I can talk to. I live in a liberal town. Even my boyfriend argues with me that transwomen are women. He's not talking to me now that r/GenderCritical has been banned. I feel like I've been gutted. I just got Gyn/Ecology in the mail this weekend. I've grown very passionate about women's issues, and GenderCritical was my safe space. I feel... just absolutely awful and alone.

[–]leculdesac 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I'm so glad to see this attitude in younger women. My two young adult daughters are very gender critical, and my 19-year-old's 25-year-old "woke" male-friend with benefits just insisted--I love this--as she was posting gender critical stuff on Facebook, that he didn't feel comfortable "having sex" with someone who was that much of a bigot. Like, he actually made it about HIS PENIS!!! She was so relieved to get rid of him. What an ass. The funny thing is her closest friends--an African American lesbian, an African American male, and a white female--all agree with her about the trans madness, but this white guy just mansplains EVERYTHING to them and claims to determine what's legitimate or not. And his PENIS!!! I'm so glad you and your Mom support each other with this. My girls call me to scream about this crap all the time. They face career ruin (at least for the foreseeable future) if they say much of anything about at work or school.

[–]sosorreal 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

yep!!! imagine that, white men mansplaining oppression to those they oppress. fucking great.

it's lovely to connect with like-minded women and to know there are more and more of us out there. I think the recent reddit ban is going to wake more people up! I was being somewhat quiet before, but no more!

[–]littlerbear 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Even my boyfriend argues with me that transwomen are women

So... Ever asked if he's attracted to their very feminine bodies? (Assuming he's straight).

Even my boyfriend, who likes women and transwomen alike, agreed with me that those are two different sexes. He even is uncomfortable to call himself straight, since he aknowledges straight people aren't attracted by trans people.

[–]LieLiver 39 insightful - 2 fun39 insightful - 1 fun40 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I had JUST found the courage to join the gender critical reddit two days ago... was planning on finally telling my story. I found so much renewed hope and strength in reading everyone else's stories and seeing that I wasn't so alone. The BAM it all went down but this isn't the end... and it's really just showing a lot of transparency. Censorship is what that movement is really about so I refuse to stay silent.

yayy I'm glad to be here. I have no clue how saidit works but i hope i can figure it out.

Venting time: Fuck Spez and his admin cronies!

I had a tiny sub on reddit making fun of people (mainly trans ""women"" and a few enbies) throwing hissy fits over being misgendered. Maybe 6 subscribers, I was the only real poster. All I did was screenshot their tantrums about being misgendered, i even censored their usernames and then i posted it. It wasnt even that active. I checked today after the banwave and no surprise it was gone. I didnt even get notified. I did not get a notification in advance that my sub was in danger. Not even a threatening not from the admins about "clean up your sub or else...", nothing. Not a hint that they were thinking of banning it. Now it's banned and I, as the creator and only mod of the sub, didn't even get a message that it was banned. I had to scroll all the way back in my account to even find the sub and when i clicked it it jsut said "banned for rule 1" with no other info, not even a ban date (for all I know it was banned a week ago, i dont check the sub that often).

Sorry, vent over. I'm just pissed. Women are losing their right to speak their mind. How long will it be before the men of this world we should go back to women not having a vote too?

fuck reddit!

How long will it be before the men of this world we should go back to women not having a vote too?

There are women whose husbands tell them how to vote, which is dreadful enough, but then they go ahead and vote how their husband tells them to, regardless of what they actually believe. That's why we need spaces like this - to get relief from the misogyny of men and the women who support them.

Well, there was a few subs removed so we're trying to get all of them before bad faith actors run in and take the names so I'm sorry if we can't bulk out this sub as quickly as we would like!

[–]bekkilyn 28 insightful - 1 fun28 insightful - 0 fun29 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I just got perma-banned from a Reddit group I've never once posted in for being a "TERF". Ironically, the group calls itself "WitchesVsPatriarchy" (I have very broad interests in spirituality and religion), so being curious, I looked at their rules and here is their definition of Patriarchy: "Any post or comment displaying signs of toxic masculinity, homophobia, transphobia, racism, classism, ableism, or otherwise enforcing the Patriarchy, will be removed and users may be banned."

Wow, nothing about SEXISM anywhere.

Very telling.

Edit: Oh and I sent them this reply! (Though I don't expect anything to come of it)

How ironic that your sub is "versus" Patriarchy and yet you went out of your way to ban biological women opposed to Patriarchy, women who have been fighting for the rights that we women have enjoyed for decades now (and are being eroded), banning and attempting to silence women in favor of those who have every interest in keeping the Patriarchy firmly in place, regardless of whether they are currently in pants or a skirt. Men are privileged because of their biology, not because they've "identified into" it. If you think trans men have all the privileges of biological men, best think again. And biological men don't lose those privileges no matter how many hormones they take or operations they undergo. The fact that you've banned someone who has been a feminist fighting the Patriarchy now for over 50 years is very revealing. No "TERFs" indeed! You may as well have allied yourself with the Patriarchy.

Wow, nothing about SEXISM anywhere.

You're right. I never noticed. Holy crap.

[–]jet199 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Certainly one thing feminists in every country can do right now is to campaign for sex to be included as a special characteristic in hate crime and speech legislation.

I don't agree with those laws or believe they work, certainly in the UK the majority of people saying they were victims of hate crime are white, but if they are in place they should at least cover the most common form of hate.

[–]theysaidthat 27 insightful - 2 fun27 insightful - 1 fun28 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Transwomen are human. Transwomen deserve respect and compassion. Transwomen deserve protection from male violence and predation. But transwomen aren't actually women. How is that a hateful belief to hold?

Reddit's removal of the sub has really got me down. It had grown so much recently! But now I feel like the entire world hates us. At least there's y'all.

[–][deleted] 26 insightful - 2 fun26 insightful - 1 fun27 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

I'm here. If this falls or not enough people join, I may migrate to mumsnet. I was incensed when TRAs silenced women out in the real world and online, now I'm incensed a thousandfold from Reddit equating women advocating for their sex-based protections peacefully to violent, anti-women, pornographic, or white power subreddits. The mods there never allowed name-calling, but I guess when female existence and insubordination triggers people everything is hate speech. Can't believe that this is the world we're living in now where grannies can get punched for saying women are female and people cheer.

[–]radfemanon[S] 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

We're going to do our best to bring this space up to speed!

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I'm seeing mentions of spinster.xyz being mentioned as well in the GC sites that haven't been purged yet but mumsnet is the only non-specifically GC forum I know with a big userbase. I don't have an account there, but are most people going over there? Do people use saidit?

[–]gparmesan 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Added spinster.xyz to the sidebar, I have no idea how popular SaidIt will be, but better to have it than not.

[–]Redditefugee 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

FWIW, spinster.xyz just doesn't resolve for me, even though it's running according to those "down for me?" sites. I'm not in the US, so it may be blocked from certain countries.

[–]radfemanon[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We're getting an influx of users now so even if they didn't they do now I think! Me and gparmesan will keep this space running in the interim (:

Infuriated the sub was banned like that. No warnings, no quarantine, just gone. Reddit has some nerve.

Seems to me the term "TERF" qualifies as hate speech under reddit's new content policy. Terfs, radfems, and women in general are all "vulnerable" groups and "identities". Everytime I see a sub or a user use "TERF" in a negative context I am going to use their new report option. For anyone who wants to know how:

  • click "report" on a comment or post
  • choose "this is abusive or harassing"
  • then choose "It's promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability"

Sick of this shit. Apparently its too much to want a place to talk to other women. And the media focus will be on t_d or chapo and the fact that 50% of the population was just deemed hateful by reddit will be ignored. Thanks mods for doing what you can to keep a space for us <3

[–]radfemanon[S] 16 insightful - 2 fun16 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

No problem. Unfortunately I get the feeling that the T*RF slur is an acceptable slur on Reddit.

Well, not here!

[–]TrollToadette 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Its accepted because not enough people are fighting against it. Enough people made a stink in againsthatesubreddits about GC and reddit responded by banning the sub. Have to use the same tactics. Report every damn thing we see that is offensive towards women. Make a stink. Keep doing it until we're impossible to ignore.

[–]radfemanon[S] 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we were reporting it, we were just getting ignored as is the usual.

[–]Gender_Critical 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

T*RF is just a blanket label used to tell women to shut up. Hmm, where have we heard that before?

It is a meaningless slur now since it can be applied to ANYONE who says things as simple as “Women have periods.”

[–]BettysBitterButter 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I can't believe r/gendercritical was banned. I was so shocked when I looked at the list of subreddits banned and r/gendercritical was one of them. It was such a great community of strong, level-headed women and I really liked being part of it. Now all the work that has been put in it has been lost. I'm leaving Reddit and I joined Saidit just in order to keep up with gendercritical.

[–]anodunos 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I've been so angry today. It's no surprise this came just as radical feminism was gaining coverage in the media, and more and more people were waking up. They try to silence us because our voices are strong, and are starting to be heard.

We will not comply. We will not submit. We will not be silenced.

[–]radfemanon[S] 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

[–]anodunos 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

[–]radfemanon[S] 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I know a lot of you are very upset. But honestly, I feel kind of relieved. Reddit has become such an awful place. I only visit there to lurk in GC anyway, and every time I go there (Reddit), I feel like I need to take a shower when I get out. I was actually one of the first people to discover Reddit when it started. (We're talking several lifetimes ago in internet time.) It was such an innocent fun place back then. Lot of people sharing quirky interests. Then I left for about 7, 8 years because life got busy. I only returned about a year ago searching for some of my old interests. Sadly, I discovered the place is nothing like what I remembered. Like all things web, it's become a large platform for Incel men to congratulate each other for being masters of the universe. The front page is so full of misogynistic shit posts every day, and Woke bros jerking each other off, I literally feel sick seeing what trends. Then I stumbled upon GC and it was the only thing that kept me visiting every so often. So in a way, I'm really glad to never have to go there anymore.

Hopefully, all the others who had the rug pulled out from under them will find their way here soon.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

lol, I really only went there for my hobbies for many years (writing, piano, Hearthstone, running, Betta fish and care, etc.) so the majority of things I saw on my front-page were innocent. It wasn't until late last year that I stumbled across GC, so I wasn't as up-to-date on the bigger scope of reddit, so it's interesting to read your viewpoint. I did go to the front page sometimes for big news events, but after the ban, I've realized it's probably not a reliable source for any type of political content.

I didn't see the hidden agendas and narratives, and while I may still be blind to it, it has at least opened my eyes. As you said, the rug has been pulled out from under us. We didn't fall. We just saw the stain underneath.

[–]bekkilyn 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me (except for me I found GC after JK Rowling's tweets just a few weeks ago)! I am subscribed to a bunch of video game subs, some craft-type subs, some related to various religious and spiritual practices, and a few other odds and ends related to my interests and hobbies, and really only just lurked on all of them...for years. I think my very first post ever was to GC.

[–]Lilith_Fair 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's probably because you set your front page to show your main interests. I returned out of nostalgia and curiosity, and never bothered to tailored my preferences. So I see the r/all front page. Everyday it was Woke Bros and their Handmaidens circlejerking about politics, or Karening, or Woke Bros cheering asshole for hitting a woman because "no-p*ssy pass" 🙄, or Woke Bro AITA for treating some woman like shit to get upvotes/gold/silver, or lib-fem AITA self-flagellation for not being a cool girl or nice girl to get pats on the head. These weren't hidden agenda. They're just what shows up if you have no preferences in settings and the threads that are most discussed/visited are the ones that show.

They banned stuff without even looking at it...r/gendercriticalgerman got banned even though it was mostly anti-prostitution and the posts were mostly links to regular news pages...but, yeah, gotta ban all of those evil, evil women's subs where all those awful female humans post...

[–]sunnysombrero 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thankyou! Was shocked when I saw the GC sub was banned (for promoting hate of all things!), esp when so many misogynistic subs have been left alone. Had only been lurking and subscribed for a couple of months, but it provided so many insights and information that I hadn't seen elsewhere, and gave me the confidence to start speaking out (carefully and respectfully) in real life. Really happy to see the sub reborn so quickly. Long live GC!

Seriously I’m so done being silent. I peaked a long time ago but now I’ve gone supernova. This weekend, I swear... First the crap Bailey had to, still is, dealing with with Crowdjustice now Reddit going full on 1984, just so done sitting in my corner playing nice.

Ahh It's such a sad day. Rumour is they banned pro-Palestine stuff too, though I'm not sure what.

I love how reddit silences this kind of thing, but not incels, racists, misogynists, etc. It'd be brilliant if the good discussion subs go somewhere else

[–]femalefinch 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’m so angry about GC being deleted. I said this on reddit, but it’s absolutely baffling how a peaceful feminist sub gets banned with no warning, while hundreds of violent misogynist porn subs are allowed to stay. It just proves that the admins hate women. Fuck reddit and fuck men.

[–]feminist 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I am so happy that you and gparmesan set this up. I never posted on the GC sub. But I had been a subscriber and an avid reader and lurker for the past 3 or 4 years. Though I never talked to any of you, you ladies made me feel sane and welcome. There aren't enough words to describe how much you all have taught me and how much solidarity I felt with people I had never met. Though we lost our original sub, I am really hopeful that this can be our new home. I know nothing about saidit, but I hope they're not as easily swayed in the way that reddit was.

[–]radfemanon[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What a disgusting act on Reddit's part. I'm glad to see that the torch will not go out.

[–]SharpTomorrow 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

My last message on r/gc was on the sticky thread the day before eviction, warning the mods of the current election year environment and "moral panic".

Moving to saidit.net can only be a temporary solution. GC needs its own platform in order to stop being passive and start being actual activists because it's clear now that the left "hates" GC. GC need to stop swearing allegance to the left (which doesn't mean GC has to start being right wing of course, feminism is essentially a marxist movement).

But GC cannot stay silent anymore. If it means resorting to the same "dirty tactics" as TRA to win, so be it, because the other side clearly won't hold up.

Another matter is archiving old content and discussion, this is really important because there was significant discussions in the old sub and useful links. Do mods here plan to get back all that content in any way?

[–]bekkilyn 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Just a short while ago, I considered myself to be a progressive, but now I don't believe I have any sort of political label. Now I understand the far right-wingers who claimed that the left was authoritarian. I thought they were just projecting because they are basically bordering on fascism themselves, but the latest JK Rowling incident opened my eyes to a lot of things.

But I agree. While it's fine for GC (and good marketing) to have a presence on major public platforms, the only "safe" place to have a more permanent home is one in which you have ownership. Basic business advice for entrepreneurs so that Facebook falling off the face of the earth doesn't mean your business does the same.

[–]EventideSky 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I had been lurking on the GC sub since the Yaniv shenanigans last year. Completely shocked to see the sudden ban. I see the gc mods on twitter are recommending spinster, but I liked the whole not needing an account to see what you women had to say. It's certainly opened my eyes to this nightmarish situation.

Anyway, I've definitely peaked, now.

[–]radfemanon[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

If you could let any of the mods know about this sub so we can get them on board here as well that would be awesome as I'm not on Twitter

[–]radfemanon[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We are winning. Have said elsewhere, they may as well try herding cats than stop strong, REAL women from talking, sharing ideas and being proactive. We are resourceful, we are brilliant, we are in the right and we are women. My god don’t the crybullies in frightwigs hate us for it!

[–]BarleySammich 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We will NEVER stop, we will NEVER SHUT UP! EVER!

[–]SharpTomorrow 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, but we also need to be efficient at making our point of view mainstream and not stay fringe.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Our views are the majority around the world even if it's not called GC. TRAs are misleading people into believing that GC feminists are a new hate group when it's they who are advocating for what used to be a seriously fringe view. What we need to do is continue to speak out and let them self-combust. The mainstream public's able to judge who's sane or not. In an article on the DM, the new Stonewall leader says her goal isn't to convert everyone to their gender view (which the previous one was doing) which is convenient after the heck no the UK gave to Labour stances.

[–]LeyMio 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Reddit never felt like a safe place for women. Honestly I was expecting this to happen some day. Looking at the bright side, the Reddit bangate forced feminists to regroup and find an independent space for ourselves. We no longer have to live under oppression of the Reddit's misogynistic double standards.

I'm still trying to figure out how Spinster works... ugh. But glad to see that I'm not alone in my irritation with r/gendercritical being banned. How did GC end up being clumped along with Nazis and "The Donald"???

[–]sherryberry 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I am absolutely crushed that #GenderCritical is gone. It was the place where I finally felt validation that my feelings weren't crazy. I loved reading through the subreddit daily to hear about all of the interesting thoughts and ideas of fellow women. I never posted for fear of getting banned on other subreddits, but I am tired of being quiet and glad I found this site!

[–]pitabites 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was aware of the issues with reddit being anti woman but naively i believed gender critical and similar subs were tiny corners of peace that would be left alone, i see i was so wrong. I am glad i found a way back to you and to keep learning here.

Reddit left me all my "karma points" but killed all my gc posts. So this is what silencing feels like: denial and emptiness. The post on the "peak" thread was a milestone in my life. It's gone.

I was just thinking while hanging up laundry about how I'm a long-time member of a Christian forum that leans evangelical conservative, and I'm always arguing on behalf of women over there against those who (falsely) think that it's scriptural for women to be subservient to men, and at MOST I've gotten a couple of warnings here and there for "goading" over the course of the few years I've been over there, and then to be banned by a "tolerant" liberal reddit group for not even posting ONCE.

As one new Spinster user said (something like): It's like Twitter without all the misogynist slurs and death threats."

Hello! I did not post much, but what happened is nothing short of being charged with thought crimes. I guessed that "r/ this doesnt happen" was going to topple shortly. I had no idea how to archive that entire sub. I know voices are important too, but that sub had a massive stockpile of actual police records of wrongdoing. I was able to go in physically to each post and email to myself near 300 cases of arrests, and I cherry picked the most heinous. With all the links to every news story or court document.

That sub is gone now too, right when I was in the middle of my click happy 3 hour harvest work to save--something.

Thanks for making this!

[–]AngryRadish 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I never posted on reddit, always just lurked. GenderCritical was where I felt like there was some sanity left. Frankly I always wanted to interact but was kind of afraid. But with what's happened now, fuck it. I'm mad. How can they be so blatantly biased? Is absolutely terrifying how much weight they have to swing behind the scenes.

[–]Shitbag 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Was not an active Redditor but strongly GC on many other platforms. Glad I spotted this link!

They think they can shut us down? Fools.

[–]MonstrousRegiment 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I don't do social media but I just made an account and subbed to express my thanks and respect for you all. (I've been visiting you on reddit since 2017 or so.) I've watched you grow and struggle with each other and maintain love and respect for one another as women and it's been heartening beyond words. Don't give up!

Bless you my daughters ;)

I wish my fandoms would emigrate from Reddit as well, that way I could leave that horrible site behind

I think they inevitably will. They will overstep their censorship one day and a lot of users will jump ship. Less users === less money. Advertisers tend to remove their dollars when their bottom line is affected!

[–]Seahorse 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think they have already.

There's a lot of angry people on the Reddit page.

At one point the downvotes were huge.

Came from lgbdropthet to support the GC community here. Plebbit Admins are corrupted by the censorious TRAs.

[–]MarkJefferson 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We're expecting it to go down as well in a 2nd purge today. But at least there are alternative platforms like this.

[–]Winter_ 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I literally found GC and GCdebatesQT LAST NIGHT and today they're gone! I don't see how anything that I read qualified as "hate speech." I didn't agree with everything I read there, but it was such a relief to find a place where people were saying some of the things that I've been thinking but NOT in a hateful way.

[–]tomboyeurope 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Hi everyone,

I was shocked when I saw that r/GenderCritical was banned. WTF? But those porn subs are still allowed???

[–]venecia 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

And r/TheRedPill. Not so much as a quarantine for a bunch of men who sit around saying terrible things about what women are like and how to subdue, abuse, or rape us.

Under one of my alts, I participated on GC and found that if one of my comments was just a bit too mean (it was after I had just peaked), it didn't go through. The mods on GC did an excellent job of NOT letting hateful/violent comments through, and from what I've heard have worked closely with the admins to do as asked. They don't even deserve a half-measure like a quarantine? Such bullshit.

[–]BlueHetty 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Hi there. I was a long-time lurker over on Reddit. That sub really was somewhere I could be and think "I am not crazy". I peaked before JKR but was over the moon when she came out with her statement. Never quite got round to posting my story or participating in the sub in any meaningful way, but hopefully I will now. Just wanted to raise my hand and say hello. I am still in shock.

[–]wifwolf 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

At the risk of repeating what a hundred or so other women have said:

1) What the actual FUCK?!

2) Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, ever wonderful woman who has helped to set up and maintain any of these spaces where we can sort our minds out, connect with our sisters from around the world, and find the strength to resist <3

[–]pages 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I just learned GenderCritical got banned, even though I knew Reddit banned some subs, I would have never guessed ours was one of them, because it wasn't a hate one. I'm very upset. If it doesn't fit their view, it must be banned. We must grow our community!

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

a lot of "hate" subs are just subs that were smeared because they didn't fit their view. and there's a lot of actual hate left up on the site.

[–]Tex 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

r/gendercritical was one of my favorite places on the internet. I was sickened when I saw what Reddit did. I'm so glad to be here!

Is it wrong that I'm kind of happy this happened? It's a relief to be somewhere off of reddit where I don't have to provide an email address or worry about my main accounts being exposed.

I remain on reddit, in fact I am a moderator on a women's subreddit with over a million subs. I don't dare to let on to anybody on the mod team or community that I read here, though I never had the guts to participate. Until now. Thank you!

[–]emissch 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Who else thinks we were added to the burn pile of banned subs because of JK Rowling?

[–]_another_voice 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

She brought our argument to the forefront, and the sub was growing exponentially by "peaked" people. They wanted to shut down discussion. Nothing she says or what we support is hateful; it's simply fact based on biology and corroborated by statistics.

[–]Rock3stone 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I can't believe how many GC subs got banned. I joined Spinster.xyz and I checked out mumset but I hope this works out. I like the 'saidit' format. Spinster is great but it feels more like twitter.

I'm so relieved to find you all here! I am feeling hurt and angered by Reddit's decision to ban r/GC. It was a supportive community of intelligent, funny and brave women, and now we have to start it from scratch again. Fuck Reddit.

[–]radfemanon[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's OK, we will rebuild!

[–]personofquality 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nightmare. Will GC's huge community be able to gather in full capacity again? Are most of the 65K members going to find there way here? I wish I was in a winning mood, but I feel - well, not exactly defeated, but deflated. I don't think it is hyperbole to speak of a witch hunt. This was a substantial community, able to make an impact. I was envisioning Guerrilla Girls-like activism in cyberspace (arguably, the r/gendercritical as such already constituted such activism). And then POOF. Friggin' gone.

[–]Anonimouse 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It's really off putting seeing GC next to some of the other subs banned. Is that really how this is viewed? I've already got people on reddit telling me that gc is just dog whistling anti-trans.

ETA: and now looking at /all, it looks like we are in the life boat with those other subs.

[–]radfemanon[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, women talking amongst themselves cannot be tolerated, you see.

[–]rusalka 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It warms my heart to see us all regrouping! I first found GC in 2016 and it has always filled me with hope to watch it grow and grow. The ban is infuriating, but I am confident we cannot be silenced. Perhaps we may even be nearing a tipping point in gender politics.

[–]_another_voice 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have to imagine that we're already there, or they wouldn't have banned us (and @glinner from twitter).

[–]redacted_gc 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well the next “peak” thread should be busy!

[–]Amelia_Bedeila_Rocks 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I am so happy that one of the old mods went on Twitter and I was able to find out about this place! While I'm still pissed they fucking banned r/GC, I'm filled with gratefulness that they cannot keep our voices quiet! Women are adult human females, and it's not hate to say so. It's so ridiculous that they banned GC and other women's subs, but left up hardcore revenge porn and rape subs - really showing their hand here.

[–]fruita 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I barely knew what Gender Critical was a few days ago, but I am here to support you. I learned about the Reddit bans because I'm a member of FemaleDatingStrategy and they're talking a lot about Gender Critical.

I don't see anything "hateful" about what you're saying. Granted, I didn't know the Reddit forum. But looking at your sub description, I don't think you deserve to be banned.

Even though I'm out of the loop and oblivious, you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that it's very concerning how unquestioning support of trans rights has put women's competitive sports at serious risk. As well as feeling comfortable in a women's bathroom, and so forth.

I don't have any problem with any trans person who wants to live their life. Life is hard enough for all of us and I'm not out to give them a hard time. But when the trans activists are trying to suppress other points of view and force us to accept them in (for example) women's sports, where we might as well just stop competing if we were born biologically female, that's going too far. It's also frightening.

That's my long-winded way of saying that you all have my support.

Just found out about the ban. Now found you :)

GC played an ENORMOUS role in helping me confront internal misogyny, so grateful to this community of women...

Thanks for keeping the flame going!!!

[–]aryngeous 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

I am still on the outside looking in to Gender Critical. My views are essentially that trans women are women, but that there should be more room to discuss that cis women also have their own unique needs and language as well. I think that is not too far off JK Rowling's position, based on what she has written. What draws me here is there is support for women that you don't get in liberal feminism. I agree with GC on a few things, like women in sports and having certain spaces being cis women only. I'm mostly here to support women. I hope I won't be banned here.

[–]yishengqingwa666 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

No woman is "cis". That is a bul$*** trans cult word that means nothing. Trans women are men.

[–]Winter_ 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not saying that you're necessarily wrong, but is it really necessary to police language to this extent? I get why "cis" is offensive. I think it's a word that's primarily used as a tool to silence women. However, those of us coming from libfem backgrounds have been pretty well conditioned to use that kind of language. Deprogramming that is a process, and being yelled at about it in a place that is supposed to be supportive isn't particularly helpful.

[–]_another_voice 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK. <3

[–]bekkilyn 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Well everyone has to start somewhere. Hopefully by continuing to look in, you will come to know that just because a biological male takes hormones or has a few surgeries, he is always and ever will be, a biological male. His genetics and many internal and external structures will never change no matter how much he wants it to happen. He will never truly know or understand what it is like to be a biological female and live in an actual female body, he will never know or understand the cultural socialization that biological females experience every moment of every day since birth. His view of what a woman is entirely based on stereotypes of what men believe women are like.

That's why transwomen are not women. They are transwomen, but they are and ever will be males. And there is no such thing as a cis person. Cis is a term that is being used to erase women as if actual women are only a small, insignificant category among 97,000 other "gender identities" that we can somehow all just wake up and "decide" to put on that day.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The trans movement has reduced women to stereotypes and our genitals, every part of our body is female, or DNA and chromosomes are female and they are in every part of our body too, that's something that men can't replicate and change within themselves.

[–]radfemanon[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The mod team have no intention of banning people for wrongthink.

We just had that happen to all of us.

We have had some... Characters... Let's just say in the interim time who are very slur happy and they are our first ban.

We want to avoid censoring people's ideas and thoughts.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If you haven't yet, I recommend reading the experiences of spouses, partners, and family members who have supported and "lived through" the transition of someone close to them, and the sheer financial, physical, and psychological havoc it's wreaked. Also the myriad stories of detransitioners who found themselves completely alienated from both their original social networks and their trans networks.

Ethical arguments are compelling, and many of us like to think of ourselves as idealistically inclusive. But direct experience is very telling. There are many such "experiencers" here. TRAs would have us silenced, because our lived experience doesn't fit the narrative.

[–]angrybutnothateful 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thank you thank you thank you. I thought twice about what username to set this up with - doxxing is an actual concern - and I was going off of my traits: the Terfyforeigner was going to be one, to play on the fact that as much as discourse is setting up gender critical women as if we're upper class and rich and require no liberation some of us come from places so steeped in sex stereotyping and regulation that we can't keep quiet for fear that these "forward" countries we have chosen as our homes aren't as "forward" as they like to think.

I'm glad that now that I've stopped shaving my legs I don't have to make beds again, or plan for dinner, or grocery shop (on top of my full working day). I wonder if leaving my mustache to grow will lead to a payrise.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I came here from reddit, I deleted my reddit account once they closed us down, I refuse to be part of a site that tries to silence freedom of speech and thought, while at the same time allows subs to stay which are about rape and violent porn, it's disgusting. I hope some media outlet picks up and reports on how reddit allows these vile things. Trans activists think that by silencing women they win, but they are actually just showing everyone that their movement is a men's rights movement and their goal is silencing and erasing women. I'm happy that GC carries on here though. Hopefully, more people will wake up the more they dig their heels in - I think they will - this isn't just an issue about women and children's rights, it's about the right to free speech and the freedom to debate issues which affect us all.

I was so upset when I tried to get onto GenderCritical and saw that it had been banned. I hadn't posted there for a while, but the sub had been a huge part of my life for the past couple of years. I checked it daily.

I am so angry not just about the purge of feminists from Reddit, but the blatant lying I've observed since. Whilst lurking on other subs to see reactions, I've seen the most boldfaced lies about what kind of conversations were happening on GC.

Anyway, this has only made me more determined to hold fast to what I know is right and true.

[–]AdmiralPangolin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Not that I know of unfortunately.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm back and I'll always be, no matter what, they can't silence us anymore! I just hope this wakes up more people.

Of course the subs hating on women are still up and running but that was to be expected.

Does anyone know what's up with r/TrollGC? It appears to still be there but has been made private?

[–]Minerva 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I remember when the GC sub had less than 5k subs. I was one of them. I'm still half-shocked this actually happened, especially since we went so long without being banned.

I'm disappointed that we're being lumped in with legit racists and their ilk, and that we have to be corralled and decentralized simply because we know women are adult human females as opposed to believing something, you know, ACTUALLY heinous and dangerous. But whatever.

I'm gonna put in a good word here for radfem tumblr if you aren't there already. I understand being reluctant to participate due to all the theythems and TiMs, but radblr has been keeping me sane throughout all this. I know it could always be taken away like reddit was, but it's something.

[–]Seahorse 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I dunno if it's been asked already if so I apologize. What is the long term goal? The TRAs will encroach and infest here too and probably spinster.

It feels like it's an inevitable cycle at this point.

Briefly -- mods are still setting up here, which may turn out to be temporary. Efforts are underway for creation our own webspace. ETA: Old r/GC content is being actively retrieved where possible.

I'm late but I'm so happy there's a new forum! The subreddit was the place I went to whenever everything around me felt asphyxiating, it was like a safe space and I was sad and angry when I saw it got banned, it really feels like we haven't made any progress and we still need to hide to speak our minds.

Literally 3/4 of the subs I frequented daily are gone. Bullshit. Anyway I’m glad we’re regrouping. They will never silence women.

Hey, y'all!

I just had to grab my old handle BECAUSE OF REASONS, but my new one is u/crypkids

Hope to see some of you at s/lgbdropthet later on! :)

I can't wait to see how this community comes back together, and stronger. That day I had attended a talk on women's shelters and the speaker had said the #1 thing a woman in a shelter is looking for is safety, which for most of them is women-only spaces. And then I came home and checked reddit and got a huge shock to find my favourite page (my safe space!) was gone. So the combination of the two things has me so fired up.

Supreme irony: when you do a search for "Gendercritical" the first sub which comes up is an MRA sub. Disgusting.

I hadn't participated in the GenderCritical subreddit for years, because I'd gotten all I needed out of it and was frankly very disturbed by the pro-conservative take of some of the posts (basically against TRAs at any cost, including the cost of reproductive rights).

But I ran here as soon as I heard the news.

This fucking sucks.

I am honestly extremely wary of the general backlash the banwave is going to have on politics (do they want the centrist Trump supporters hanging out with violent racists?!). And I'm disturbed by how many otherwise-thoughtful leftist friends are just unthinkingly like "yeah! the transphobic subreddit is dead!" without actually understanding the basis of radfem thought and what went on here.

I hope GC can rebuild. I also hope that there are as many of us as there seems to be, and the left is in for a rude awakening of people who are firmly pro-equal rights for all, but not taken in by the nonsense rhetoric SJWs are peddling these days.

I cannot believe those fuckers!!!

I've kept my old username so I can be recognised by my reddit sisters. Well, that's what I'm telling myself, but in reality I'm not sure if I have the mental acumen to remember another 8 character name.

I'm so glad GC found a new home! I read nearly all the posts but rarely commented. In fact, I had just started commenting not long before the ban. Going to be MUCH more active here!

Rejoined because I typoed the original name. :D Glad to see GC still lives!

Absolutely incensed to see GC banned at reddit. One one hand so much is lost however I have to wonder if its for the best as there was a fear that anyone who was participating in other subs could get banned in those subs or get stalked bc of an opinion expressed in GC. The cult-like mindset that trans-ideology has engendered at reddit and elsewhere is oppressive to say the very least so seems very freeing to be away from it

I lurked on the GC Reddit sub, but never actually joined due to fear of being outed. This time I actually joined. It's horrifying that the GC sub was banned but all those violent anti-woman subs remain. Such blatant misogyny!

Logged in the other week to check what’s been happening, and I was shocked. Pure utter shock. All my comments were gone. I had an inkling the day would come but so soon? How can they silence women’s valid concerns? I am beyond appalled. We can’t live, communicate, or think in peace. Time’s fucking up. This inequality shit needs to change, it’s only ever harmed us.
