Margaret Atwood stanning how sex doesn't really matter by WrongToy in GenderCritical

From what I’ve seen, TRAs haven’t allowed terms like biological/natal women and sex-based oppression in years. We would need a constantly updated book of their Newspeak terms in order to keep up. I think it’s important to keep using them, though. I always make a point of using “sex” and never “gender” in all my real life conversations. The average person won't be offended, and it's important to keep our language alive. Unlike TRA terms, ours are clear and definable.

It’s so disappointing to see this from her considering how integral sex-based oppression is to many of her books. Patriarchy is built upon controlling female reproductive capability. Nature always leaves room for shades of grey in anything, but invalidating the female experience with these minor exceptions is dangerous to our movement.

Women are more likely to stay silent than agree with you openly, out of fear, but you planted an important seed <3 exposure to our ideas, from our own mouths and not the twisted narrative TRAs spin, is how they start asking the right questions.

Of course! In Slavic mythology rusalki are female water spirits, sometimes considered dead young women who committed suicide by drowning due to unhappy marriages or unwanted pregnancies. They haunt bodies of water and seduce and lure men in order to drown them. So they are pretty much feminist icons, haha.

Was the book called Deathless, by chance? (If so, I adore that book, and if not then do also read it!)

They say any press is good press! Every time something gender critical related receives limelight, so many more people peak and we gain more followers, more curious people questioning what they've been fed by TRAs. Women know that our biology is integral to our lived experience. With every push TRAs make to silence us, to take our language, to erase our bodies, more and more women become uncomfortable with their movement. Because it is, at its core, fundamentally anti-feminist.

This is always so good to hear! Keep spreading the word! It's hard to ignore the absurdity and toxicity of their movement once it's been brought to light. It just doesn't hold under scrutiny, it breaks down when one asks the simplest questions.

Can I just say it's depressing Gc was banned by inneedofspace in GenderCritical

It certainly is depressing. They have tried to cut out our tongues, but I feel confident we cannot be silenced. Already this sub appears to be quite active when compared to the other subs on this platform (looking at the 'users here now' vs. subscribers). Women are desperate to find a voice of reason, a group where they can belong and speak their minds and be heard. Now with people like JK Rowling speaking out, maybe it will start becoming safer for us to move our activism beyond the internet, into the real world. In the past it used to be too taboo to speak of issues such as abortion, but our feminist foremothers persevered and now it's not quite as controversial to be pro-choice. Gender identity and pornography are some of this generation's largest fights, and we must take it seriously and do want we can to retain our rights and fight for further change.

In ancient Greek myth, Philomela was raped and had her tongue cut out, so in order to get her voice heard she wove her story into a tapestry. We have so many talented, intelligent, resourceful women on our side. It's time to weave our tapestries and speak our truth!

What' wrong with the concept of 'cis'? Reading Gender Hurts by Spikygrasspod in GenderCritical

[–]rusalka 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

According to libfems, a cis person's gender identity matches their born sex, but when did we all agree on the existence of some intangible, undefinable concept of "gender identity"? If we agreed with our gender identity, and thus the roles associated with it, then there wouldn't even be a feminist movement to begin with. We have always strived to liberate ourselves from the constraints of what society determines a woman should be. We can be anything, anyone. The concept of being "cis" undermines feminist goals, by suggesting that there are other components to being a woman other than being female, which can only be based on sexist stereotypes. They also say "cis" people are comfortable in their bodies, and yet I don't know a single woman who doesn't have complex issues with her body as it relates to her sex, who hasn't starved or harmed herself in some way. It's a ludicrous term.

JK Rowling is filling me with such joy and hope. It feels so good to not only finally have someone high profile speaking out, but someone so intelligent, articulate, and a little sassy. She's truly taking no bullshit and not backing down.

So beautiful. All our experiences of our biology are so unique and yet they inexorably link us in a way men will never understand.

Argument with boyfriend last night about Reddit's censorship of women, and he called me a transphobe by sosorreal in GenderCritical

It would be so much easier to just submit to the trans cult, but once the veil has been drawn back and one thinks critically about things, their whole ideology falls apart. It most definitely is regressive! I would be happy enough agreeing to disagree with the ontological concept of an innate “gender identity”, the same as I politely disagree with people’s religious beliefs, but to have it enforced as the default view, with all other opinions deemed as hate, is absurd. It is hard not to feel crazy at a time like this, though, especially with the small sanctuary of sanity the GC subreddit provided being stripped from us. But you aren’t alone. <3

I hadn’t shared my radical feminist views with anyone in person for fear of being misconstrued as a “bigot”, but recently my close friend came to me with doubts and questions about gender identity/transgenderism, born from all the recent mensuration/JK Rowling talk and her own critical thinking. It felt so good to finally speak about my views with another woman, out loud, and be understood and agreed with. I think this kind of solidarity is so important, and that many women are having these kinds of thoughts but we are all too afraid to speak of them. The opposing side may be very vocal, but our numbers may not be as small as we think. It truly is time to start speaking out if we want to elicit change.

It warms my heart to see us all regrouping! I first found GC in 2016 and it has always filled me with hope to watch it grow and grow. The ban is infuriating, but I am confident we cannot be silenced. Perhaps we may even be nearing a tipping point in gender politics.
