Hi! You can get it at Encounter Books. https://www.encounterbooks.com/books/when-harry-became-sally-paperback/

I'm finding the only places you can safely get these books and articles published is through traditional "conservative" outlets. Oddly, I'm finding myself having more and more in common with "heterodox conservatives" w/r/t COVID, BLM, and transideology. It turns out there are a lot of really smart people, and smart gender critical feminists, publishing at these sites, like at Independent UK, Telegraph, Spiked, Quilette, New Discourses, Persuasion, Critic, etc. I realized how out of date and misinformed my stereotype about "conservative" was. I was still approaching this as if it was 1980--you'd be surprised how much diversity of thought, including gender critical work, is published at these sites.

I'm so sorry, but thanks for this post. I haven't visited this board in a while and am glad I did. I just subscribed and may convert to paying soon. I'm really grateful for Substack, which I'm hoping is safer from these bannings (having Matt Taibbi, Greenwald, Sullivan and Bari Weiss presumably confers some sort of protection).

Your writing is really rigorous and brave. Thanks for your hard work and talent.

I would argue that biological males have a much greater tendency toward violent sexual behavior, grounded in biology and then conditioned over time. It's as inherent to males as is the tendency toward creating and navigating social hierarchies is among all humans. So yes, I think there are some "masculine" traits.

Not so sure about females other than biological drives toward caregiving infants, when you lactate when you see a baby--that sort of thing. But I think some caregiving can be learned and when males caregive for infants they actually develop some of these capacities, like recognizing their baby by their smell.

I'm so glad you're here. It's broken my heart that Reddit has maliciously closed the active detransitioners support group on their platform during a time of so much social isolation. I'm a gender critical feminist, as are my two daughters, and we're so concerned about this movement and its many harms, including what's happened to you.

As others are saying, PLEASE be careful and as anonymous as possible right now while you safely learn more. There are so many great resources at 4th wave and those young women who've started their own detransitioners site. It takes a lot of courage to face down the movement that has embroiled you and they are VERY invested in silencing your experience, so please stay safe right now and keep checking in here and at 4th wave. Thinking of you and again, welcome!!

Check out Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying and their Dark Horse Podcast. They were the first victims of this crap in a university setting at Evergreen. There's a terrifying documentary about Evergreen as well. They still consider themselves progressives--they're evolutionary biologists, and they're atheists. She speaks out about the transactivist crap pretty regularly.

They've just put forward this Unity political plan--as fanciful as it is, it is serving as a focus for a lot of people on various sides of political issues. He's even been interviewed on Tucker Carlson, and I think finally on CBS. They're very much NOT pro-life, pro-capitalist, etc., but they're fed up with this bullshit.

Thank you for such an earnest, detailed reply. You've given me a lot to think about. I apologize in advance if nasty members come here and try to shame you for your beliefs. It's happened to me sometimes, but part of being gender critical (and trying to be nuanced in general) is for me to realize that people with whom I vehemently agree on some issues can violate my values on others (the value of being kind, compassionate, and open-hearted). Thanks again.

Maybe "it's all over the place" because you are incapable of taking a broader point of view. I don't have time to waste arguing anymore. Good luck.

Thanks! There are sadly always people here who write snarky, close-minded responses when I try to respond in sincerity and authenticity, as if I don't have three advanced degrees and decades studying women and religion (no doubt I was readlng Daly before they were born). A lot of atheism is to me as fundamentalist and narrow as transgender ideology, minus the active attempts to drug, mutilate, and rape people, of course. But still, it's disappointing to see the smug nastiness masquerading as something progressive (sounds familiar, right?)

I can see connections with those traditions, and yes, transgender ideology feels like an addictive, empty religion, with no spiritual sustenance whatsoever. But we know people can participate in performative catechisms that have nothing to do with really being open to something new and radical. Not that I can see into their hearts, but I know from my own experience that I can get into a lot of propositionally structured certainty and be perfectly miserable and closed-minded, and it sure seems like that's where these folks are coming from.

I don't have the skills to set that up, but I'll be part of crowdfunding for it if the GC mods and group consensus here (or a sizable enough subgroup) decide to set it up. It think it's important to be as independent as possible. Thanks for keeping the name.

Oh, sure. So, to me, lots of terms used in a variety of spiritual traditions as well as science correspond to the same universal truth, which is that there is some part of us that can connect with something a lot larger than ourselves when we radically quiet our minds and connect with our "unborn nature," our "unconditioned nature." This is consistent with Buddhism, mystical Christianity (Christ within), and the science of neuroplasticity.

So, when Paul said, in Christ there is no male and female, or enlightenment teachers refer to some deep part of yourself that is beyond the polarities and conditioning of this word, or 12 step programs talk about a "higher power" and how trusting in that can change a lifetime of destructive behavior, or neuroscientists talk about adult neuroplasticity and how sustained meditation can lead to radical changes in attitude/opportunity, they're talking about connecting with some part of ourselves much greater than worldly identity. It's much greater than our privileged status and even more importantly it's greater than our traumas and victimization.

This is part of what liberation theology is about--when you're radically able to connect to a sense of something larger, you're much more at peace and paradoxically a lot more effective in addressing oppression, because you have a source of strength, open-mindedness, and capacity to not take the messages of your oppressors personally.

To me, gender identity obsession is the opposite of mindfulness. Instead of stopping to connect with something much deeper in yourself, you're running around obsessing about some false "self" you are and how much you want to control other flawed humans' perceptions of you. It's the antithesis of spirituality. All spiritual teachings encourage us to find an inner space away from our worldly identities, and this movement not only is obsessed with creating a social identity through endless attempts at manipulation, but they actually have conditioned their orgasms to it.

Probably not what you expected. I was an atheist when I was very young, but I realized that identifying a peaceful place of connectedness where you live in the "I don't know" paradoxically opens you up to "miracles," meaning, seeing possibilities that were impossible in your prior conditioned world view. So you can call it neuroplasticity if you want and simply commit to meditation--our words are just vocalisms from a bunch of hairless primates, and they point to the same thing.

Good luck.

I'm so glad to see this attitude in younger women. My two young adult daughters are very gender critical, and my 19-year-old's 25-year-old "woke" male-friend with benefits just insisted--I love this--as she was posting gender critical stuff on Facebook, that he didn't feel comfortable "having sex" with someone who was that much of a bigot. Like, he actually made it about HIS PENIS!!! She was so relieved to get rid of him. What an ass. The funny thing is her closest friends--an African American lesbian, an African American male, and a white female--all agree with her about the trans madness, but this white guy just mansplains EVERYTHING to them and claims to determine what's legitimate or not. And his PENIS!!! I'm so glad you and your Mom support each other with this. My girls call me to scream about this crap all the time. They face career ruin (at least for the foreseeable future) if they say much of anything about at work or school.
