The whining on r/news really convinces me that literally no one on Reddit cares about the exploitation that kickstarted this whole event, rather than just trying to figure out more ways to get their spankbanks back. I for one, as someone who has dealt with exploitation personally, am extremely happy that Pornhub considered the loss of major credit card companies pulling out from their services and decided to remove most of their content (and essentially killing itself it in the process, it seems). I know full well that other websites will fill this gap of exploitive videos and content, but this to me is a massive win.

What are you opinions on HBO's Euphoria? by socialistrobot in GenderCritical

[–]Sistersovermisters 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have not bothered to see it yet, I am curious to see other's responses as well.

My sibling (male) really enjoyed it for the aesthetics, but didn't really like the characters or the story. I've heard some people compare it as this newer generations' Skins, and I felt OFFENDED. How dare you compare anything else to Skins??? (I would suppose the same would go for Degrassi, if you had grown up with that instead).

I definitely get that vibe of writers stalking Twitter and Tumblr grounds for high school drama to put into their show, but that coupled with the MTF has put me off from watching it at this point.

I would rather watch HBO's Watchman and admire Regina King's acting.

Every generation has to learn the hard way that their idols are fallible.

I think the unfortunate reality of this situation is that these furry artists can prey on awkward young people and win them over to their side of trans rights and AGP-esque hypersexuality. It's not like every furry in the community is like this, but I have found it is not isolated to myself in experiencing this kind of situation. I know this too well, as I was groomed and abused by the furry community when I was a bit younger. It seems like a very repeated action in the community, where they isolate lonely and 'weird' individuals, and try to get them to attach to the artists or whoever is popular in the fandom. It's that feeling of wanting to fit in, which I am sure most generations deal with. It is very much a disgusting feeling though when it feels like you have found a safe place, but you are actually integrated into oversexualization and TRA cult-like behaviors.

It is most definitely about the escapism and fantasy with furry and trans crossovers. I have left a lot of communities where it was prominent (one of my major peaking moments), and I fear it's just going to thrive on Twitter and other social media where art like that is shared.

Thank you! I felt encouraged and figured it was time to take a leap into more discussion. I felt a lot of detachment from my breasts for such a long time and idealized removal, back when I idealized transition as an escape from previous things that had affected my life. I just worry that there must be way more of those kinds of people like me, around a similar age and considering the radical change/removal of the breasts. I'll try to speak out on anything I notice that is verging into concerning territory, even if it's just furry art or something like that.

Oh gosh, I've frequented a few major lolcow artists in the past few years. Funny enough, I think I found them when I was just discovering the GC subreddit. Reading it definitely helps, and I think it really shows the delusions that a lot of trans artists go through at different stages.

It seems places like these are just going to have to exist for the forseeable future.

Oh, no, I completely understand! I am trying to get over apologizing to others when I feel like I've stepped on some toes, but this actually feels great to be prodded to try to think more about what I want to say! I really do appreciate that. Failing and learning is probably one of the best things a person can do, and I'm really open to accepting humility and gaining experience from experienced posters!

Thank you for your kind words, and best wishes to you as well. I'll try to post and gain that confidence!

I guess, if I can try to word this any better (since it seems I'm not wording things right at all), I've seen a few con panels and interviews, along with a few social media posts, and that is probably how she came across as GNC to me. I might have seen just enough appearances outside of movies to have that kind of perception about how she was in terms of gender non-conformity. I believe the part of where I felt she was more GNC-learning was how she carried herself a certain way, I don't really know how else to describe it beyond her not being incredibly concerned about looks or presenting around people.

I hope this elaboration helps a little more.

I totally agree with what MarkTwainiac said about her not really concerned with constantly thinking in the "feminine" and "masculine" terms. I haven't really involved myself with GC discussion since the subreddit was removed, so I appreciate seeing more properly word/descriptors of what I am trying to get across! I am also learning still about the gender discussion, so what I may say could be misinformed or built on misinterpretation. I am a lurker at heart, I do apologize!

I am so tired, I honestly don't know exactly what to say. She just never stood out as someone who was feminine to me. Obviously, she portrayed a very feminine (or should I say, woman-dependent role due to the case of the pregnancy situation) role in Juno, and along side that, was able to provide other female leads. So it's not to say she wasn't feminine at all. I guess she stood out to me as part of the GNC crowd, or really a part of the concerned about appearance crowd, until this happened.

I don't know, maybe as a personal experience and how I viewed her, she was definitely not very feminine by my standards, or in my family (when they would watch movies with her, they would comment on it often). And I totally understand where you are coming from with the Annie Lennox generation! I really wish it wasn't a big deal.....I really do.

Like, to me, it felt as if Ellen Paige wasn't making it a huge deal, which made me feel great for just dressing however and it not being a big deal at all. I think I've been essentially nudged into being concerned about gender presentation due to familial standards and whatnot. When in all-honesty, I just wanted to normalize just being comfortable with myself. (Edited a small detail on my original comment, hopefully that helps a little!)

Legit just came here to post this. I feel like a pit has opened up in my stomach. I really loved how she was contributing to gender non-forming expression and just so many different aspects of her, including her lesbian status, made me respect her so much. We were the same height, too!

Now I feel even more alone, and I can't help but feel this is going to snowball for others as well in terms of what they are questioning and how they perceive the trans movement as whole.

Edit: I believe that although I felt this way, I might have misworded this a bit and that this is also a misconception! Please read MarkTwaniac's below comment edit for how Ellen comes off in a presenting sense.

I was lurking and the GC subreddit saved myself from internalized misogyny and turned me away from the lures of the trans culture. It was a scary time, and it made me FURIOUS to see GC gone, just like that. I never wanted to voice my opinions because I was so scared of being doxxed. I just wanted to read other's frustrations and I wanted to vent personally. I have very kind trans ftm friends who are just scared of even the idea of womenhood. I cannot stand for this and we need to keep our voices strong. We can survive elsewhere.

We can continue here and other places and avoid the shit hole Reddit honestly always has been. We gathered what we needed to know, I think. And I firmly believe we can continue to use it to engage others in the future. Violence against women and any other forms of misogyny should not be tolerated in this day and age, especially not the silencing of our voices.
