This just makes me sad. These kids can't handle disagreements about basic facts, to say nothing of emotional or political viewpoints. I occasionally read incel or MRA or things by blatantly racist/sexist/xenophobic assholes, just to see what these sorts of people say. It's often upsetting, so I don't do it that often - but it is still possible to read that stuff without being affected by it personally, via emotionally maturity and control. The idea that these kids have NONE of that, that they can't even read someone's opinion that they asked to read and submitted questions for them to answer... fills me with despair. Someone needs to break the bubble wrap around them, for their own good.

I wonder if the historical ignorance is deliberate - it makes it easier to accept their narrative that women aren't oppressed because of our sex, but because of our "femininity." It's hard to imagine that anyone is stupid enough to think that women who published under men's names really thought they were men. Much easier to accept it as TRA propaganda or a deliberate attempt to undermine feminism.

It appears to be trying to posit that GNC feminists are conservative/racist/religious, given that the majority of relevant questions are about racism, conservative thought patterns, or religious justification for opposition to trans ideology. None of it shows any understanding of the actual GC or radical feminist position, and no questions are asked about political beliefs/ideology not based on superficial conservatism or religious modes of thought. This is disingenuous and has no real interest in understanding gender critical or radical feminist thought.

Skeptical about the crying thing. This has been a misogynist attack against women generally, that we manipulate men with our tears. Being called racist would be upsetting if you're a generally nice person, and could cause some to be so distressed they start crying. Most people don't have that much control over their emotional reactions. The "Karen" slur originally came from a misogynist male on reddit who wanted to bash his ex-wife.

The questions are ALL of a particular slant, and read like they were written by someone who believes there are only two possible choices: 1. People are liberal, non-racist, irreligious, and support everything the trans movement says, or 2. People are conservative, racist, religious, and hate trans people. If you really want to understand the psychology of GC feminists, then ask more diverse, nuanced questions that don't presuppose one or the other option. If all you want to know is "are GC feminists conservative, racist, and religious," that could be answered in less than 100+ questions. Just... ask.

I think this idea has deliberately been pushed by the left in recent years: That white women are not oppressed. Because really, what that says is that sexism does not exist. They'll accept any form of oppression that does not include women as a class. Since white women are usually the women willing/able to speak the loudest and participate the most in feminism(not saying that's how it should be, just the reality) - it effectively silences all women as "uppity bitches", aka TERFs. It's not as if they give a shit about women of color either, but making it about white women hides the misogyny more effectively.

I take the philosophy of trying to meet people where they are and understanding that most of them are in the position that I was 9 years ago. I'll use the language of whoever I'm speaking to(if the person is at all willing to have a conversation - a lot of TRAs aren't) and just pick at the edges a little, encourage them to think about what they're saying and to do more research. You can't change someone's mind if they tune out your words. I deal with TRAs pretty much daily, because of my interest groups and liberal beliefs, so I have to be careful how much I say and at what time.

I don't give "anti-trans" much thought, though. I don't hate anyone on a personal level, just some people have bad ideas or harmful beliefs. Everyone is still human, and still entitled to basic respect and equal protection under the law. That core philosophy is never going to change for me, no matter how much abuse or name-calling I get in return. I'm better than them, so I don't have to dehumanize them.

Also, I don't believe that 'trans' as a concept exists. People are male or female.

I'm Christian. There are arguments all the time that radfems can't be religious. You can ignore it and still participate, or try to understand where people are coming from when they say it. If neither is an option for you, there is also the possibility of creating a group for Muslim women who want to support radical feminism - but I would urge you to participate a bit here first. You're never going to find a group of people that agree with you 100% on everything(or anything), and being able to listen to opposing views without taking it personally or feeling that you need to change your own views is a good skill to have.

I'm right there with you. The Parler thing pissed me off and made me swear never to vote for Democrats again. And I used to work on their campaigns and attend conventions. Nor was I on Parler either - I'm just an ACTUAL liberal who values free speech and hates corporate monopolies. That more people aren't aware of just how insane that was and some that are actually defending these companies? I don't even know. I blame tech illiteracy for one. Someone tried to argue with me that "anyone could just set up their own server!" And... seriously? I know how servers and web hosting works, I study IT and they say shit like that? I just laughed at them and asked if they had a damn clue how much data a site like Parler would be processing every day. Of course they don't.

It matters because if these companies gain control over the tech access and supplies completely, it's only going to be billionaires who can even attempt what Parler did. It's pretty much at that point now. And billionaires aren't usually big on sticking their necks or money out "for free speech." People need to wake the hell up. And yeah, I have only a handful of close friends and family on Facebook, and I worry every day that one of them might turn on me.

Trump was honestly like most politicians. He did some good things, some really questionable things. His biggest flaw was antagonizing the media, and even that wasn't really his fault. I'm far more concerned with the sycophantry going on now between Biden and the media - how much shit is he going to get away with that they'll never report on? Too much is the answer.

Calling a man a man = shitting on them?! Men are men. If they have a problem with being men, that's very unfortunate for them. Doesn't make it hateful to embrace reality and use sex-based pronouns. You may claim to oppose the gender cult, but you're still accepting their brainwashing of what's an insult.

I don't believe you should have been called out for using they. I do it to avoid the stupidity of TRAs about pronoun use. Still, think about what you're saying by calling a neutral descriptor disrespectful.

It's hard. There's a webcomic I follow that I feel this way about, when woke or "queer" nonsense is sprinkled into it on occasion. But I still like the comic overall so try to ignore those parts. The consolation I get from it is that woke shit is so bad - and I mean in the sense of being unrealistic, preachy dialogue that no human has ever said in real life, virtue signaling garbage - that someday, when the fad ends, the creator will be forced to see what they did to their own work. It won't hold up well, and the cringe and the embarrassment they'll be left with - even if never acknowledged publicly - will be punishment enough, in my mind.

Assuming that it's just their content that's effected and they're not actively supporting organizations like Mermaids. They deserve worse than simple embarrassment for that. Tax audits for donating to fake charities, at the least. Public shaming and condemnation. Etc.

I don't agree with her on this point:

By all means, we should refer to individuals however they prefer in private or in direct communication with them. I do.

And I hate that it's pushed as a matter of politeness. It's a dangerous precedent, too. A person can screech all they want that they're the Queen of England, but unless they are that person, I'm not obligated to call them your majesty. It's not rude for me not to. With trans people I know, I carefully avoid using any pronouns or gendered language, referring to them only by name. If I have to speak about them to someone who might tattle on me, I do the same. But that's not out of politeness either, rather a desire not to lose social/financial positions that matter to me, and to not constantly be in a fight over it. If I was JKRowling, I'd call them men.

But like so much else, I don't care what decisions people make in their private lives. I agree with everything else she says, and I'm glad she's speaking up about this as a public matter.

I understand what you're saying. It gives children way too much power over adult choices and the actions of those around them. Kinda reminds me of back when I used to work in a daycare - one day a dad brought his sniffling three year old in. She was wearing two mismatched LEFT shoes because, in his words "it's what she wanted to wear." I rolled my eyes a bit, waited till he left, and put two matching shoes on her that were appropriate for playing(the mismatched ones weren't). Yes, she threw a fit, but when I didn't react, she forgot about it a couple minutes later... like kids do. The trans stuff seems to be giving parents the same sort of opt-out option for actual parenting. Children don't know really know what they want, and far too often what they claim to want is dangerous or otherwise harmful. That's why adults should be, y'know, adults.

[–]lefterfield 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's not irrational and it's not paranoia. Trust your instincts on this. We know when someone seems 'unsafe', even if we can't put it into words. The very act of a man claiming to actually be a woman is a violation of boundaries. it's a biological, natural boundary, and if someone can't respect that... why should we believe he'll respect the word 'no'? The only "TIMs" I would feel safe around(as safe as I feel around any man I don't know) are those that know that they're men, and are fine with being called men.

Also-

a fucking rapist can get off on forcing women to call him a woman and allow him in their spaces, and being told nothing can be done because "he says he's a woman, so therefore it's true and obviously means his rapist and violent thinking goes away."

This has actually happened already. Not irrational at all. Trust yourself, we know how to keep ourselves safe. It takes brainwashing to ignore the fear instinct.

Lol. No clue, though I got into an argument with a couple wokesters about this issue earlier today - apparently even saying 'the actor formerly known as Ellen Page' is offensive. Pointed out that her name change was announced literally yesterday so asked if they expected people to be able to read minds. One of them suggested "the actor who was the star of <x> show", though he had no comment when I asked how anyone who hadn't watched the show/followed the cast would know who that meant. And of course, they'd have to have been successful enough to have starred in something...

They tie themselves into knots trying to justify the rules and the supposed respect it's all about. I suspect this is going to come to a head somehow in the next year, it's all so absurd and the non-woke are clearly getting tired of it.

[–]lefterfield 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The problem is that it's an ok concept in theory, but when applied to an individual it's worse than useless. It's extremely divisive and is only becoming more so every year. If we want to talk about average privilege-based differences across different groups - sure, no problem. But no one should feel obligated to support strangers financially or offer emotional support just because they are "more privileged" according to this theory. It's never going to be accurate on an individual level, because we can't know 100% what someone else is going through. People that I would have expected to have perfect lives occasionally reveal major health issues, fears, or financial problems that I would otherwise have never known about. We can't judge individuals from the outside, knowing only the surface level of what happens in their lives. But yeah, I feel that people often ignore this reality when it comes to privilege theory.

Of course it's done for the fetish, and for the taboo. The question is "who is making these decisions," and "who is it marketed for?" It's not white women, I would suspect, most of the time. And I don't count being paid more for doing porn a privilege for white women. Getting a bigger bite of a shit sandwich is not a great deal. We can certainly talk about the fact that women of color are treated worse, within porn or elsewhere, but being paid more for your exploitation is still being exploited. The goal should be for no women to be exploited at all.
