Unfortunately, it makes it difficult to get people on your side. When the Jonathan Yaniv shit first started happening, only right-wing and Christian news websites were reporting on it. The only other places mentioning him were gender critical sites. When I tried to tell people about it, they wanted a reliable source and then immediately dismissed it as bias and fear mongering. It took ages for left-wing news sources to start reporting on that predator.

The weirdest and most illuminating thing about the JK Rowling controversy for me was the absolute focus on TiMs, even though by trans logic it was TiFs that were most directly misgendered by making the point that everyone who menstruates is a woman. Wikipedia's articles are bullshit when it comes to trans stuff. Like the "woman" article literally opens with "A woman is an adult human female" but then goes onto include TW. Editors have tried to point out the contradiction on the talk page but ~inclusivity!~ and so TW remain on the page (I guess we should be relieved that the word "female" hasn't been removed... yet).

The "violence against women" article opens with "also known as gender-based violence and sexual and gender-based violence" but not sex-based violence, even though the second sentence includes "a form of hate crime, committed against women or girls specifically because they are female". They also have a section on violence against trans women, which includes a statistic on the number of trans PEOPLE murdered, not specifically trans women, and makes out that TW are oppressed for not being allowed in domestic violence shelters for "cisgender women".

Cis women won't be able to speak at women's events because they are privileged over transwomen. Look at that other article on here about transwomen talking about menstruation.

I would feel more forgiving towards TIMs if they actually fought for women’s’ issues – free and safe abortion for all, equal pay for equal work, guaranteed paid maternal leave, justice for victims of assault/rape, as a few examples – but since their gender identity is an “expression of who they are” by veruscka8 in GenderCritical

I was amused by the title but after reading the entry what the actual fuck? If their issue was JKR saying only women menstruate, then shouldn't they have spoken with transmen and female non-binary people about menstruation? Instead they're speaking to males who cannot and will not ever menstruate omfg.

Lmao I remember that video. IIRC, at one point he admits that the definition "woman=adult human female" isn't offensive but then continues to insist that it is offensive to display the definition, lolol.

They tell people not to read gender critical feminists arguments in case it converts them, lol.

I actually feel saying that they hand wave it away as women being drama queens is being very generous. I've always seen them accuse women of being disgusting TERFs and become vitriolic, or at best accuse us of "fear-mongering".

An infuriating thing about the TIMs in women's sports debate is a lot of headlines frame it as if we're calling for trans people to be banned from sports. No one is saying that! We're just saying trans people should compete with their biological sex – we are saying trans males shouldn't be able to compete in female categories, not that trans males should also be banned from male categories. Jeez.

Yeah I've noticed they often compare trying to keep transwomen from women's bathrooms to racial segregation and homophobia (keeping black women and lesbians from the women's restrooms). Except they are the ones being racist and homophobic by comparing black women and lesbians to males.

Their arguments ALWAYS fall apart because they're illogical and bigoted.

Urgh, the bit about FGM reminded me that there was an advert on TV in the UK for a charity that helps protect girls from FGM and child marriage. When my dad saw it, he immediately went "and what about all of the boys dying from starvation!?". It's maddening.

Lol. It's actually genuinely infuriating that saying women menstruate immediately has people chiming in to say "well my mum had a hysterectomy, are you saying she isn't a woman?!?". No one said all women menstruate, dummy.

It's fucking crazy that children were given homework depicting JKR as a horrible bigot and Prostate-Haver Radcliffe as in the right, while encouraging a boycott of JKR's work. It's indoctrination.

Yeah one of my fave HP fanfic writers (ObsidianPen) got asked about the JKR stuff on their Tumblr and they were against her. I found that disappointing but not really surprising, but it then got worse. IIRC, some anon tried to explain that JKR was pointing out sexism and ObsidianPen responded by writing a short AU where they gave the anons words to Umbridge – except they never even referred to the character by name as Umbridge, just an "extremely ugly, toad-like woman". I messaged them at that point to call out their misogyny, how it was like anti-suffragette propaganda, but of course they didn't post my comment. ObsidianPen made a point in their replies to let everyone know they supported trans people but when sexism and homophobia were brought up they made no such assurances of support for women or gay people. It's really left a bad taste in my mouth; I tried reading a new chapter of one of their fics since then but they just make me uncomfortable now.
