“Debate about a complex issue where there is a range of legitimate views should have been handled with much more sensitivity and more obvious recognition of the difference between fact and opinion. " Lol but what? They criticized her for objecting to the idea that women should be called "people who menstruate" but they agree that she used fact and not opinion? I don't know what to think about any of this.

Lol. It's actually genuinely infuriating that saying women menstruate immediately has people chiming in to say "well my mum had a hysterectomy, are you saying she isn't a woman?!?". No one said all women menstruate, dummy.

I have literally had a TRA chime in with "NOT ALL WOMEN MENSTRUATE" after I said that "not all women menstruate, but only women menstruate." I stg some people are just talking bags of rocks.

“Since the 1950s, the civil rights movement has used boycotts to take money and status away from people and organisations harming minorities and shame them into change [sic] their behaviour. Online it is often called ‘cancelling’.”

Bah, as if modern-day snitching and harassing for wrongthink is the same as protesting unethical business practice. I'd expect nothing less than for a liberal publication to equate the two.

Right, because men automatically become a minority when they put on a skirt <eyeroll>

Well, they are a minority, in that there are more women than men. But minority Islam not the same as oppressed class, despite what the new reddit rules might have you think.

I read in the article that 4 authors resigned in protest of JK Rowling still being represented by their publishing house? How dumb can you be lol Threw away a great opportunity to support a movement that was hijacked by AGP's ages ago.

They were mostly a bunch of trans nobodies. Never heard of them and I doubt they sold many books. Anyone ditching JK Rowling over those trans losers, is just shooting them selves on the foot.

Two of the objectors who resigned were Fox & Owl, an insufferable trans/non-binary couple who are basically straights with extra steps (i.e. they're actually a bog-standard het couple who pretend to be super special and interesting by jumping on the trans bandwagon because they have non-standard fashion sense and play pronoun games with each other).

The literary world is still reeling (with relief).

At least two of those authors are trans themselves and specifically trans activists for a living. The only book they’ve authored is a trans indoctrination book. Of course that’s generally not disclosed by the “journalists” reporting on that story. Quitting and writing a letter is just them performing the very function of their “job.” Look up Fox and Owl Fisher.

What a nonpology. She should ask them to donate to Keira Bell's CrowdJustice drive or LGB Alliance lol. Saw some comments by the Twitterati saying how gauche it was for a high-profile signatory of the Harper's letter to sic her lawyers on someone for libel after grandstanding about a commitment to free speech, but I think that's bullshit. Everyone has the right to speak their mind and say their peace--but libel is libel and if you come for the queen, you best come correct with ALLLL the receipts.

"We unreservedly apologise to JK Rowling for the offence caused, are happy to retract these false allegations and to set the record straight. We shall be making a financial contribution to a charity of JK Rowling’s choice.”

idk, i feel like they got slapped with a pretty big dick.

to sic her lawyers on someone for libel after grandstanding about a commitment to free speech

"This person is evil because I said do. Agree and invent some reasons why if you don't want to be held back a year." is the opposite of free speech.

This event is so huge. JK pushed back on a website trying to “cancel” her with woke platitudes. Got them to admit that the “you’re killing trans people” line is nonsense. Everybody else is on notice that if they try to slander her, they’ll be at the wrong end of a lawsuit.

[–]strawberryfields4evr 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I find the willful misunderstanding of the fact that they made this apology because Rowling has a legitimate case for libel - NOT because she "can't take criticism" - absolutely maddening. There's a billion other places she could attempt to sue if it was about the criticism.

It's fucking crazy that children were given homework depicting JKR as a horrible bigot and Prostate-Haver Radcliffe as in the right, while encouraging a boycott of JKR's work. It's indoctrination.

[–]basetenprefix 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes that stood out as the most egregious thing out of all this to me. Essentially telling kids that this person is literally killing trans people with her tweets and that they should boycott her. Chilling.

[–]Delia 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes Ekitten and that is the worse thing to me about it and I would say that about any education publication directing children to think badly of any author.

[–]sisterinsomnia 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sounds to me like a lawyer had a had in this. She may have sued them which is possible in the UK even for public individuals.

[–]GConly 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

She may have sued them

She a billionaire. Anyone libelling her needs to watch out. She's legit got the cash to sue thousands of people and organisations into bankruptcy if she gets bothered enough.

It would amuse me no end if she decides to haul a major name into court for libel. It would teach them to not print BS.

Very nice! So far only gender critical people faced legal risks and could be called all sorts of names.

Major news outlets will take note that they can be made to pay damages for allegations like "xyz is denying trans people ther right to exist", "is transphobic" or "harming trans people". And without such hyperbole, very little is left that could be reported other than the actual statements made by an alleged "TERF". Which would be nice for a change.

deeply unpleasant people

The TRAS and TIMS have worked so hard to contaminate absolutely everything.

It J.K. were not wealthy, she would not be able to fight back.

The everyday woman is steamrolled by the transcult.

[–]LoveNotPorn 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Let’s hope that all the other news sites and people who slandered her decides to do the same. If not she should sue them to hell!

[–]marmorsymphata 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Imagine being a confused little girl having to do homework about JKR being "deeply unpleasant" just for using the word "woman".

Imagine being cancelled by your own teacher at age 9 for having the "wrong" answer.

[–]Delia 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good I do not like education publications that direct children's thoughts in this way.

[–]mangosplums 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It seems to me the best way to fight injustice is a lawsuit. Protesting etc barely does anything. For example the thing that actuallly got the Trump administration to rescind its ban on international students was a lawsuit.
