The comment from Nonbinaryunicorn is painfully ridiculous and delusional; I could not help but facepalm when reading it. I don't know how people like that navigate through real life.

Menstruation isn't female only because the doctors assigned you female at birth due to your genitals but you realized during puberty you're a man? No, you're a female. Get a grip on reality.

I think it's bizarre that they admit to bullying her and are proud of it. Who on earth is proud of bullying someone???

Because they think they're "right", therefore, it's ok (even necessary) to re-educate the people who are "wrong".

There was a comic on the first page with a text along the lines "we call ourselves the anti-bad guys, so if you're against us you're a bad guy". Then violence makes sense.

Look at this hypocrisy:

But it is fully within a person's right to be angry at Rowling for what she's said.

https://archive.is/u6P09

And language that doesn't alienate me from resources I can benefit from doesn't destroy the "female identity". It just makes it less dysphoric for people like me while not alienating women who, for one reason or another, don't need those same resources.

https://archive.is/jUwuM

One rule for me, one for thee. Newsflash, you need the same resources as other women, because you ARE a woman. No amount of wishful thinking will change that. Stuff youself full of hormones, castrate yourself, you still remain a woman. All you do, is make doctors treat you wrong, because of some stupid notion that validation is more important than your health and life...or worse result in a dead baby:

Also, in those posts nonbinaryunicorn made this claim:

There are trans men who have begun transitioning that still get pregnant accidentally because it's not very well known that even on T for years you can still get pregnant.

As someone who has closely followed this movement for many years, it's distressing that people within the trans community who I'd hope would be concerned about not promulgating ideas that can put TIFs health further at risk are spreading the notion that "it's not very well known" that girls & women who take exogenous T still can get pregnant & therefore if they have PIV het sex (as many apparently do) they need to use contraception.

Medical providers & the LGBT press have been publicizing the fact that TIFs on T still can get pregnant for many years, & in more recent years this info has also been published on mainstream health sites like Healthline & in mass market publications like The Daily Mail. Even Teen Vogue has run articles with the headline "7 Things to Know About Birth Control If You Are Transgender or Nonbinary - Hormone Therapy Won't Prevent Pregnancy"

For TIFs, female enbies & other female people in the gender identity movement to pretend that information about the high risk of accidental pregnancy - and actual pregnancies - for females taking exogenous T is not widely available and therefore not widely known seems like intentional ignorance. They're basically closing their eyes & sticking hands over their ears and saying "la la la" or "you can't tell me that."

Also, a survey of 197 TIFs done in 2018 & reported in the health journal "Contraception" found that, in fact, the majority were well aware that females still can get pregnant whilst taking T. Only 16.4% "believed testosterone was a contraceptive method." A majority of the TIFs - 60.1% - surveyed were using some form of contraception (condoms, pills & IUDs were the methods most commonly used, in that order).

Interestingly, the 197 TIFs surveyed reported 60 pregnancies amongst them - and of these pregnancies, only 10 occurred after testosterone was stopped, & one occurred when taking T irregularly.

https://www.contraceptionjournal.org/article/S0010-7824(18)30222-1/fulltext

Current Healthline page about TIFs and contraception that very clearly states:

Men — specifically transgender men — can actually get pregnant, even if they’re undergoing hormone therapy and taking testosterone. Although testosterone can reduce the chances of becoming pregnant, it’s still possible to conceive on the medication.

https://www.healthline.com/health/what-happens-if-a-guy-takes-birth-control

Information showing that TIFs still can & frequently do get pregnant whilst taking high doses of exogenous T is not hard to find. It's freely available to anyone who willing to use the tip of their fingers to type some keywords into a search bar. Or willing to use their voice to ask Alexa.

Is there any research on how the T affects the fetus/baby, out of interest?

[–]Shesstealthy 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I can't link you to any but I do know that T is contraindicated in pregnancy which is probably why the ability to still conceive is so well publicized. My assumption is that the effect can't be good. Basically if you're on it and you get pregnant your doctor will immediately take you off it because of the dangers.

I don't know whether or not you removed your comments, but just letting you know that your comments are now deleted. The person who replied to you is fucking delusional. "Cis women opress trans women." Fuck off you fucking idiot.

[–]lefterfield 32 insightful - 1 fun32 insightful - 0 fun33 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That was always the whole intention of the cis/trans divide, though, I feel. At one time TRAs claimed it was just this idea of ~intersectionality~ not that "cis women" actually oppressed "trans women." But, like everything else they say, that was a lie.

It's actually almost remarkable how they can flip logic on its head like this. Men are oppressed by women for wanting to ape the sexist stereotype men created of women. O-kay buddy.

It's interesting how the misogyny jumps out with some people once pressed further. I've seen so many MRA-esque "but women can be violent criminals too!" "what about women who rape men?" arguments when pressed.

One of my favorites was a person claiming that saying women are biologically categorically less strong/capable in terms of sports is "sexism". They always have an anecdote of one very strong woman they know that they assume could beat their scrawny ass (and the sad thing is the biological reality is that that woman may very well still lose to them in a fight, because T just gives men that much of an advantage). Exactly like the typical sexist Redditor "equal rights equal fights" cheering on women getting punched in subreddits like JusticeServed or whatever.
When push comes to shove they have to rely on MRA arguments to defend their points.

Even though being attacked by all the hatred and false accusations, JK Rowling's posts still only show kindness to people of all genders/identifies. It is mind blowing how well educated this woman is compared to the TRAs who have been doing nothing but cowardly spamming sexist insults and death threats to "cis women".

[–]meranii 29 insightful - 2 fun29 insightful - 1 fun30 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

So on the JK Rowling sub, people who actually agree with JK Rowling get their comments deleted? Wut?

[–]yousaythosethings 28 insightful - 2 fun28 insightful - 1 fun29 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

That’s the pattern. They colonize and take over every space and crowd out and often banish the people who have a legitimate right and interest in being there. It’s always the sane people who end up leaving and the TRA colonizers who maintain the space, often ironically, to maintain the appearance to onlookers that their view represents the majority view point of that group. Most Harry Potter and JK Rowling fans have not and will not ditch JK Rowling and Harry Potter over this. We all know that. But they want to make it look like that’s the case. In reality her and HP’s popularity are soaring.

I know a new subreddit cropped up after TRAs colonized the JK Rowling subreddit. I believe it was banned by reddit to again maintain this false appearance:

https://www.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/hjc34u/rjoannerowling_banned/

They want gender critical people to feel like we’re lone wolves and not the majority that we are. Most people who pay attention become gender critical either immediately or eventually. Reality and Mother Nature are TERFs.

I always find it funny when they say "not all women menstruate! Transmen menstruate too!"

It's like duh, all transmen are women. Just like all transwomen are men.

A TIM I know complains about JK Rowling about once a month, with a bunch of comments going "I'm never buying her merch again!"

I don't usually engage (although it's getting to the point where I might just do it and reveal my "terfiness") but, instead, everytime he posts I buy some new Harry Potter merch for myself or donate to Lumos.

I came across this yesterday. Might make a good Christmas present: https://minalima.com/product/harry-potter-and-the-philosophers-stone-signed-copy/

Except he’s probably just destroy it, and that’s a waste of a good book...

I like these House books directly from Bloomsbury. I'd love to get a bunch of Slytherin copies. And I know the money's going to Rowling.

I also got some "I heart JK" stuff from Posie Parker, which I like getting because I know she uses the money for banners and billboards to get more people peaked. I think she said she'd put billboards around the US and Australia once she starts making enough money.

I used to feel slightly embarrassed to have bought, cumulatively, 6 sets of Harry Potter books throughout my life. Alas no longer. The Casual Vacancy? Never had an interest in it before, but I will now. Robert Galbraith? All of them, please.

I also got some "I heart JK" stuff from Posie Parker

Just checked her store and I'm glad she's branched out into things like pens and notebooks. I'm not a flag-waving TERF just yet (#partoftheproblem?) but I wouldn't mind scribbling away with a pen that identifies as a feather quill.

The problem is that you're very much wrong. There are people who do not identify as female who menstruate. So it's not a female-only act. I am a transgender man, meaning the doctors labeled me as female at birth because of the genitalia I presented with. I grew up, hit puberty, began menstruating, and then learned that I am a man.

Lady, I have some news for you...

My best friend is also a transgender man. He is also pregnant now.

LOL

[–]Realwoman 16 insightful - 8 fun16 insightful - 7 fun17 insightful - 8 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, the doctors labeled her female because of her genitals and it's thanks to those same genitals she menstruates. But I guess genitals are irrelevant, right?

How come people with male genitals don't menstruate though? 🤔 I'm starting to think that genitals must have something to do with menstruation and with the sex you get "assigned" at birth. But who can tell.

Also, do you know that male cats also menstruate? I identify as a male cat and I'm menstruating right now, that's all the proof needed!

Wow, the delusion is strong with this one. It's like a giant semantic game to them, and they throw tantrums if someone doesn't play along.

[–]Realwoman 19 insightful - 2 fun19 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Transmen were historically oppressed? Oh, really? What history are we talking about? Pretty sure transmen were considered women for most of history and were oppressed for being women, not for being "men who menstruate".

Kinda off-topic, but does anyone know if she has made any donations to gc/sex based charities?I'm not saying she should (she has already done a lot for our cause), but in capitalism money speaks louder than words (hope i'm not being an asshole for saying this)

This is from the Volant Trust's site. "The Volant Trust was set up by author J.K. Rowling in 2000 as a grant making trust to help fund charitable causes in Scotland, with an emphasis on women and children’s issues ...We support Scottish charities, groups and projects, whether national or community-based, which alleviate social deprivation, particularly concerned with women, children and young people at risk."
