Jesus Christ. "This character didn't behave according to the stereotypical fantasy I'd built up for my own life, so I'm mad at the author for not affirming me."

These people need help, but clearly not the kind that psychology today is capable of providing.

I’m so upset an author wrote her characters as she saw them and not how I did

It's incredibly common for couples to have pet names for each other that they would never be ok with anyone else using that name for them. It's likely that Tonks' husband is the only person she allows to call her Dora.

I know these people have never had relationships and have a loose grip on reality, but come on, it's so incredibly fucking common.

It's also not even the name that the character objects to! Nymphadora is a weird name as it is, and completely understandable why she wouldn't want to be called that even if she could have other reasons to object. But Dora? It's a very normal sounding name with only a loose association to the original. There's literally no reason to connect the two and get upset because the CHARACTER is ok with it. I mean, unless you're a crazy person...

Vox is laughably terrible.

I never really read the Harry Potter books, so can't speak to the actual canon, but it's pretty clear that this Vox writer's projection is doing some pretty heavy lifting. Does she really think that JK Rowling creating a character to exemplify 'gender dysphoria'? It's pretty clear from the above description that Tonks' narrative arc is one of finding peace and self-acceptance. How is this a 'transphobic narrative'? Also, growing out of one's dysphoria doesn't imply that dysphoria is choice.

The author makes it explicitly clear that they view 'woman' as a gender word ie 'soft, gentle feminine' and that 'cisgender' apparently is a gender identity that aligns with those stereotypes. Ironically, if Tonks were a transwoman, the author would be hailing Tonks' narrative arc as 'stunning and brave'.

I swear none of these people know shit about punk rock, from saying Kurt Cobain was trans because he wore dresses (a punk rock thing you morons) to this lady thinking Tonks was genderfluid because she dresses in a punk way.

Um she was still badass... so someone having a term of endearment and gasp becoming a mom is some fucking knife in the back to these loveless, genderless assholes. Tonks is fictional, get a damn grip!

She can be all those things and much more, she is a WOMAN! Well, a well-rounded female character from a book but you get the idea.

I get this but from a lesbian context. I hate when gnc/masculine/dominant women turn out to be straight. Like Abby in The Last of Us 2 game... my stomach was so upset when I realized Abby was in love with a dude (🤢).

So I do get why fans can feel "betrayed" (let down, disappointed) when an umm unique character turns out to be straight (or "cis" pertaining to whoever Tonks is... I've never read the HP books). I personally don't mind stereotypes... if a muscular gnc woman is a lesbian, that's fine by me!

I see what you mean, but "dominant" women can be straight.

I'm aware, but that really throws off my gaydar and makes me wish straight women would stop acting like lesbians! Yeah, yeah... I know GC is about crushing gender stereotypes, but it conflicts with my sexuality. 😤🤪

Well some straight women may just have a dominant/assertive personality which reads as "masculine", that's not acting.

Why would JK Rowling affirm transgender identities?

The world does not owe affirmation/ validation to trans people.
