But "trans identity" doesn't have any meaningful definition in the first place. Trans activists generally speaking are strongly against the idea that you need to feel dysphoria to be trans. The other day i was reading a thread titled "I wish I were a girl, does that mean I'm trans?" And one of the answers he got was, essentially, "Why don't you try being a girl for a while and see if you like it?". Seriously, that's how the very people who promote the concept think it works.

I don't have a problem with individual trannies for the most part. At worst my interactions with them are similar to interacting with a religious zealot. If they say irrational things and won't listen to reason it's annoying, but I can tolerate it. What I have a problem with is when they can't show others the same tolerance. If they take any disagreement as a personal attack or moral failing on the other person's part, then we can't get along.

Trans politics unfortunately are mostly dominated by the latter kind of people trying to codify beliefs that are at best subjective as law.

Since another user brought up autogynophiles, let me just say this: They're perverts but that's fine as long as they can follow the first rule of ethical perversion*: Don't involve unwilling people in your fetish! Unfortunately a lot of them do seem to have a problem there, but maybe those are just the ones we notice?

Not sure what to think. I used to believe a small number of people were "really trans", which I guess is the transmedical view, I now have have serious doubts that it ever makes sense to encourage that thinking. I'm sure some people really have gender dysphoria, whatever the cause, but it should probably be treated like any other kind of dysphoria.

Speaking of that article though, while you're there, follow the a link to Medical model of disability and then the antonym, Social model of disability. This particular brand of insanity is something I only heard of recently, but apparently it's very widespread in academy.

In a nutshell the claim is that disability is not caused by "impairments" such as blindness, lack of legs or being crazy, it's cause by society. Damn that evil society.

I sort of agree, but it's not worth giving up our guns for, and unarmed police probably aren't realistic otherwise.

Personally I'd just like use of deadly force to be seen as a career ending failure. Their job is to catch criminals, not kill 'em. Some guy rushed you with a knife so you killed him to save your own skin? Understandable, but you're not cut out for this job. Rare exceptions can be made for hostage situations, stopping active shooters and suchlike, but killing in self defense, while sufficient to avoid criminal liability, should not be considered a normal or acceptable part of police work.

Of course some times (like this case) it's pretty hard to even justify self defense, but as I see it the more important point is that if they're shooting people they're not doing their job right.

In my opinion, it's more like a religion than a regular non-contagious delusion. Gender is made up, just like souls, sin and so forth, so most of their beliefs aren't actually falsifiable. If you believe you can fly, you will be quickly proven wrong as soon as you jump off the roof, but if you believe you're "really a woman, despite having a penis", this doesn't actually mean anything so it can't be proven or disproven.

Well personally I'm inclined to think she's right that women are more attractive. Of course, as a straight male I must acknowledge that I could be biased. But on the other hand, how can I be sure it's not an objective truth? Perhaps we're looking at the result of a Fisherian Runaway*. In the US this is by state law of course so it may vary, but generally no. The definition in the US tends to be broader, and the distinction between rape and other sexual assault is any kind of penetration. And the rapist doesn't necessarily have to be the penetrator like they do in the UK (though obviously this is usually the case).

I mean, it's been getting tamer for a long time, but it's not dead yet. At least where I live. I still decorate my house and still get trick-or-treaters. Sure there are a lot of teens as opposed to young kids, but I'm not gonna complain as long as someone is keeping tradition alive.

Saidit is a fork of reddit code (back when reddit was open source), but reddit's crosspost feature is newer than that, and thus not present in this fork. I really don't think it's too important. You can just copy it manually and (if you like) put "x-post from s/subname" in the title. That's what people used to do on reddit.

I could have believed it... but one detail doesn't add up.

I can confirm there are two colors there in an image editor (plus a few pixels in between where they touch) but they are really really close. I can just barely see the difference when I look at the red channel alone, which has the "biggest" difference, but with the green and blue components present they're indistinguishable to me as well.

As a vape user myself, I'd advise people against taking up the habit (but if you smoke now, by all means consider switching). It's pretty far from ruining my life though. Other than a modest expense (bad if you're right on the poverty line I guess?) and possibly contributing to my messy sleep schedule, I really can't think of any bad effects on my life. It is hard to quit though.

Exactly. CP and terrorism are classic wedge issues used to crack down on free speech. (More recently we also got "hate" and "misinformation".) So as much as it'd be fun to see reddit admins squirm, they'd only react by locking down the site even more, and such a precedent would be even worse for small startups who don't have the resources for that kind of censorship.
