Not sure what to think. I used to believe a small number of people were "really trans", which I guess is the transmedical view, I now have have serious doubts that it ever makes sense to encourage that thinking. I'm sure some people really have gender dysphoria, whatever the cause, but it should probably be treated like any other kind of dysphoria.

Speaking of that article though, while you're there, follow the a link to Medical model of disability and then the antonym, Social model of disability. This particular brand of insanity is something I only heard of recently, but apparently it's very widespread in academy.

In a nutshell the claim is that disability is not caused by "impairments" such as blindness, lack of legs or being crazy, it's cause by society. Damn that evil society.

The "social model of disability" is the real disability and these fuckers have it in spades.

Can we get truscum off the LGBTQ+ slurs page? Truscum might be used as a derogatory term, but I would argue that it isn't a slur. It's akin to called TERF or MAP a slur.

The attached talk page is weird. But amazing that they lump TERF in with MAP, and don’t think MAP is a slur….says everything we need to know about that Troon.

I donno... I think you can make a better case for TERF being a slur than MAP.

The difference is who uses the term, people it describes, or people who hate them.

Just looked up that term, wow...

While I do think there needs to be a clear distinction between GD trannies vs. non-GD trannies (e.g. AGP trannies), I still wrestle with the fact that "Gender Dysphoria" is nonsense. Why is it nonsense? Because a man will never know what it's like to be a woman, and vice versa. So they have no frame of reference to make the comparison. It is absolutely impossible for any human being to honestly say "I feel like the opposite sex". They simply don't have all the data to make that claim.

But if people were ever to be honest about this phenomenon, they'd call it what it really is: an immense unhappiness with society's general rejection of their preferred gender expression. And we can work with that. But the trannies don't want that because then they'd be forced to concede psychiatric treatment is the right course of action. No, they'd much rather mutilate themselves and convince us all to live in fantasy land with them.

We need to stop using the word 'gender', and absolutely reject any talk of transition due to not conforming to stereotypes. Being gender-nonconforming is perfectly acceptable to most people. We certainly shouldn't be permanently modifying kids based on preferences for clothing/toys that will almost certainly change over time.

Shouldn't 'body dysmorphia' cover those who are convinced that the only path to happiness is extreme body modification?...

It's a bit more than dysmorphia. It can't be a coincidence when the "dysmorphia" affects all sexual characteristics, and it also extends to hormonal and mental functions.

[–]r2d2_21 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It can't be a coincidence

Does it matter tho? If the treatment for somebody who wants to live without arms is not cutting his arms, why is the treatment for someone who wants to become a girl cutting his dick?

[–]Vulptexghost fox girl ^w^ 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

As a last resort, sometimes the only option is amputating his arms. I also think that while loss of the arms is a huge impairment, loss of the dick isn't really.

I think the culture around it is nonsense, but I read an endocrinology study done by Oxford that makes some sense. In essence, they took a sample of about 300 trans women (mtf), 300 straight men, and 300 straight women and studied their genetic markers for when and how much hormones are release. The found that the markers for most trans women more closely resembled heterosexual women than hetersexual men. I don't buy the whole male/female brain or woman in a man's body bullshit, but I do buy that if your body is, because of the disorder, not releasing hormones at the right times and amounts for your biological sex, you could feel out of place compared to other biological men/women.

https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/104/2/390/5104458

Having said that, I still think the priority should be treating that disorder rather than catering to its symptoms. It's like giving hearing aids to schizophrenics so they can hear the voices better rather than trying to cure or at least reduce the symptoms.

There is a neuroscience twitter account I follow that breaks down and debunks a lot of these types of papers.

https://twitter.com/NeuroSGS

There are lots of confounding factors that aren't addressed in these sorts of studies.

[–]Vulptexghost fox girl ^w^ 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

But there isn't a way to treat it any more than there is to give them a real sex change.

GD trannies don't feel like the opposite sex, they are distressed because they don't feel like the opposite sex.

tucute, meaning "too cute to be cisgender"

No. No they're fucking not, LMAO!

Anyone who is not transitioning due to gender dysphoria is full of shit. That includes non-binary idiots, especially those who get surgery or take hormones. In magic land, what's the pointy of surgery or hormones if your whole identity is about bucking the "gender construct" (another failed theory that makes no sense in any other place but Tumbler).

I can maybe buy agender and bigender. That's it.

agender and bigender

Yeah, no.

Captain Brannigan voice: "ambisextrous"

[–]UncleWillard56 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sounds more like orientation than gender. This idea that gender is solely some arbitrary construct is laughable. It throws out millions of years of evolution for two-sex species, which we are and have evolved from. "Ignore those organs you have made specifically for reproduction, gender is a construct."

[–]Vulptexghost fox girl ^w^ 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Intersex. It's unusual but so is being trutrans.

[–]OuroborosTheory 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

that, if you're an adult and physical treatment's the only way to get rid of dysphoria, do it

... which is literally JK Rowling's position they're so het up about

[–]bife_de_lomo 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

They are the most palatable and consistent of the troons, but they are still deluding themselves that i) they literally change from a man to a woman, or vice versa, and ii) that gender, while different from sex, is inextricably linked to sex through thousands of years of societal conditioning.

[–]Vulptexghost fox girl ^w^ 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

No, they're doing the best they can to change their sex, and I don't think they believe they're actually the same as someone who was born as that sex.

[–]r2d2_21 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

they're doing the best they can to change their sex

When changing your sex is impossible, nothing you do will get you any closer to that goal. They're deluding themselves.

[–]Vulptexghost fox girl ^w^ 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, the treatments do work a little bit. Just not nearly enough. It's better than nothing for many.

Still seems like medieval butchery to me. Even this influencer wouldn't recommend surgery to anyone.

[–]LyingSpirit472 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Perfectly respectable and worthy of hopefully getting the help they need to either move past it or find a way to deal with this issue. I can respect someone who knows they have a mental disorder they are struggling with, but the people who decide to turn that mental disorder into their high school clique are disgusting.

[–]r2d2_21 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Trans ideology that makes sense.

No. Trans ideology doesn't make sense. You can't change the biology of who you are.

There's also this talk about “people with genuine gender dysphoria”, but I've never seen such a case. There's always something else, either not fitting into stereotypes or straight up predatory behavior.
