Something about this story does not add up. Why did the pilot punch out of a perfectly good jet that still flew on autopilot another 70 miles? How was his life in imminent danger? From what? Any ideas? by thomastheglassexpert in AskSaidIt

First off I want to say that I actually agree there is something fishy here, but I don't think where you are looking.

I do think the F-35 gets a bit more hype than is warranted, largely because they have to recoup the price by selling to foreign allies. Issues often get swept under the rug, downplayed or are distracted by other stories like this.

That said, I can think of dozens of reasons a pilot might eject and somehow the jet continues on autopilot for 70 miles. He doesn't have the benefit of knowing it's about to make it another 70 miles. It might look like it's about to fail eminently and then miraculously doesn't. Sensors could be indicating something worse than reality or perhaps the plane just miraculously lasted longer than it should have.

My car drove at least 800 miles last year while my engine mounts had completely rusted out. I had no idea except a bunch of warning lights that came on about 600 miles into it. It's a miracle my engine didn't just slip out, but somehow it just rested on the shocks and kept me going for way longer than my mechanic would have ever thought possible. Real life doesn't behave exactly the way you expect no matter how much you look at the data. Sometimes a stray spark causes a massive wildfire in a damp and rainy season, sometimes an entire box of matches wont start your expertly built campfire.

I find the story itself plenty believable, it's just the plane itself I don't trust. The "cutting edge" F-35 Lightning II is remarkably susceptible to electronic and electrical warfare. That last bit is a dig at how it apparently can't fly during lightning storms. You heard that right. It's called the Lightning II and it absolutely shits the bed in a lightning strike.

20 years ago my friend came out as trans (FtM).

I can tell you with 100% certainty that if anyone at school had actually seen her as a man, they would have beat her ass so hard. Guys can't get away with hanging out in the bathroom just to comment on the penis of every other guy who goes in. She did.

Guys cannot grope other guys girlfriend, or sit in other guys laps. She did.

Guys cannot wear diapers to school and insist they are 13 years younger than they actually are. She did.

I have no issue with someone wanting to live their life as another gender, but you either need to actually live like the other gender 100% and not try to redefine it, or acknowledge to some extent you are not that other gender, but just adopting certain aspects. There is nothing wrong with being a girl who loves sports, or a guy who loves getting their nails done. It doesn't mean you are trans, it just means you like that thing. If a dude wants to wear dresses, that's on him. But I also have the right to think it looks rediculous and laugh when I see it. Because freedom works both ways.

I have been banned from many subreddits though for stupid reasons.

I am banned from /r/pics for saying that Kanye has mental health issues and should be treated as such.

I was banned from /r/TwoXChromesomes for saying that a better strategy for the pro choice crowd would be to first get protections for first trimester abortions and abortions in case of rape so that if/when roe v wade is overturned they don't lose everything. With this they could gain momentum and fight for the more extreme viewpoints. They shouldn't have gone all or nothing.

I was banned from /r/UpliftingNews for saying that it doesn't make me feel uplifted to see someone's life destroyed just because they are on an opposite political side from me.

That's not clear at all. In fact it's downright ambiguous.

What do you do when those two ideas come into conflict? That's what the whole discussion is about.

If you make an exception there then you have made an exception and can no longer say you are pro-free speech, you can only say at best you strive for free speech.

Even the classic example of saying fire in a movie theater is a type of exception.

If exceptions are made they have to be spelled out explicitly and precisely, otherwise (and I hate to make a slippery slope argument, but in this case that's EXACTLY what it is) it will never stop. There will always be more and more exceptions to free speech and before long it's not free speech at all.

I am also against anti-semetism. If you look at my post history here, you will see that I am frequently against anti-semetism on here. But in my mind, short of calls to violence or unsafe practices anti-semetism and bigotry in general is totally protected by free speech. If you hate me for my skin color, religion or ethnicity (which as a white passing male, people most of the left seems to) that's your prerogative. I would rather you say it and let me know without fear of institutional retribution or censorship, so that I know where I stand with you. If you are censored into hiding it like reddit does, then I have no idea who is bigoted against me, and the bigot themselves, will experience resentment at being censored, which they will most likely just aim at whatever group you were bigoted against in the first place.

It's literally a lose lose to censor like that, unless you are an elite that benefits from said authoritarian institution.

I actually literally already made a documentary by this name.

I played waterpolo in high-school and college and I was really close with the guy who became the US Olympic goalie, named Genai Kerr. I made the documentary about him and Omar Amr who were the first two black guys on the US waterpolo team. Omar is especially kind of nuts because he's also really short, but one of the fastest swimmers around.

I made the documentary when I went to college for film school. It was super fun.

One of the other funny things is while I was shooting this, BET was doing an episode of cribs on Gennai, but despite being an Olympic athlete Gennai was not rich. He drove a Volvo, as did everyone in his family. BET didn't like this, nor did they like his apartment. So they rented him a Ferrari and a beach house and pretended like they were both his for the show.

Edit: Misspelled the names.

This is exactly what the right used to say would happen, and they were profoundly made fun of for it.

I was one of the people that made fun of them. Back 15 years ago I fought hard for gay marriage. I still support it.

But the right made a valid criticism that the pro-gay arguments could easily be applied to any sexuality including marrying a toaster or your pet dog. It seemed rediculous, but we should have done a better job at fleshing out the distinction rather than just scoffing. We did flesh it out by the way which is when you started hearing the qualifier: "between two consenting adults". Unfortunately it was done sort of after the fact and is somewhat flimsy in how it's understood. Afterall two is a bit limiting, what about threesomes or polyamory? I definitely see a purpose to forbidding polygamy, but polyamory isn't inherently wrong it's just stupid (I was polyamorous for a while and let me tell you it's dumb).

I don't know though. Some of this thread and interpretation is some of the same low level scoffing. There is plenty to discuss cuss here, like how obviously animals can't consent. But the question remains, what if they could. If we could actually understand animals, and their desires and they genuinely bonded with a human, it still seems wrong, but why? What is it exactly that makes it wrong, without bringing personal faith or beliefs into it? Is it that you can't reproduce or it isn't natural? It's about as natural as homosexuality, both do happen in nature occasionally, both are biologically pointless as procreation is impossible.

I just wish we could have these discussions, not because I am giving credibility to zoophilia or anything, but because I think we should build a stronger shared moral and ideological foundation instead of constantly stacking flimsy ideologies on top of eachother, otherwise eventually (and I think imminently) there will be a moral collapse. We are no longer unified by a common faith, so it's paramount that we establish some sort of shared ethics and ideologies.

Out of curiosity were you on reddit a long time? This was literally the first step to them becoming the over censoring entity they are now.

It went:

  1. Spam

  2. "Spam"

  3. Child Porn

  4. Most porn

  5. Copyrighted material

  6. "Copyrighted material"

  7. Dangerous Misinformation

  8. Dangerous "Misinformation"

  9. Right wing anything

  10. "Right" wing ANYTHING

As much as I agree the spam is an issue, we have to be very cautious about how we proceed from here. I know this is a slippery slope argument, but that really doesn't mean that it's wrong. It's kind of a genie in the bottle issue, what constitutes spam or a bannable/censorable post will always be rather subjective, and the second mods start banning anything, others will demand more and more be banned/censored. Soon you have a site that isn't a free speech platform again if you are not very VERY selective about what gets banned.

Also it's really not that much spam. It's bad sure, but it's a lot better to just ignore them at this level and make a cautious attempt to ban them as they appear.

Something I have noticed remarkably often is that these people seem to have a fascination with being a child or teen version of the gender they are adopting. This seems ESPECIALLY true with FtMs.

There might be a fomo thing or a past tragedy thing. They feel like they missed out on the defining experiences that make them adults of their gender. I mean puberty and adolescence are really challenging times for most people. Also it's not like people really feel like they are just suddenly adults.

But I think there is also an aspect of getting a redo or second chance, something most people over 13 or so wish for to some extent. I still feel like this is a major underlying component of the trans desire.

Both of these may kind of explain some of the obsession with letting children transition.

From 2000-2012 I was a pretty active member in many pro-LGBT organizations and as such I have had a LOT of trans people in my life. To me one of the biggest reasons I left and why I end up being called a transphobe all the time, is that I feel like a huge majority of them are suffering from a grass is greener and magic pill delusion. I have watched so many of them get worse and lose more touch with reality after beginning their transition journey and improve if and when they detransition. The suicide rate and depression seems anecdotally even higher among people who have undergone gender affirming care or procedures. I think they largely have unrealistic ideas of what gender is, beyond the surface level of penis and whatnot.

FtMs often think everyone will immediately treat them with respect or listen to them. They think they will be magically more confident and feel safe. When they don't they look for a scapegoat and transphobia or transmisogny make convincing ones. They also never seem to understand or really come to terms with what they are giving up, and when they find this out they seek to "fix" masculinity to make it more like femininity, because that's often their true nature, but they can't admit they made a mistake.

MtFs are similar, but there seems to be far more of a sexual component. They often think they will suddenly be desirable and that people will bend over backwards for them. This is an exaggerated perception of the female experience and one that really only attractive women experience anyways. They are seldom attractive and thus don't experience this. People are still revolted by and feel unsafe by their presence just like they do cis men.

Overall I have no problem with people dressing however they want, going by whatever name they want etc. If a person's asks me to address them by alternative pronouns (within reason, I won't say catself or any really silly stuff like that) I will gladly make my best effort do it so long as they treat me with respect as well. Much like how if a woman chooses to go by her maiden name or her married name, or if a doctor asks me to call them Dr.[Name] I do so. But again this is only so long as they treat me with respect as well. It's a two way street.

BUT, I really don't think it's good for most of them to be so disconnected from reality. Eventually reality will confront them and it's only that much more brutal the more you have deluded yourself up until then.

Because that's what a liberal is. Trump is more of a liberal than Biden or Hilary were. The left is not liberal at all anymore. The ONLY thing liberal about them at this point is that they strive for diversity and inclusion, but they have used authoritarian methods to get there, which is anti-liberal.

Russell Brand, Jordan Peterson, Bill Maher are all classic liberals that realized how anti-liberal the left has become. They are not conservatives (Peterson is just a bit in that he believes in some traditional Judeo-Christian values), they are liberals.

Liberalism means free speech, capitalism, freedom OF religion (not freedom from religion), tolerance of alternative thoughts and ideas, individual rights, free enterprise, and the right to private property. Which of these strikes you as what the left currently fights for?

It's a huge majority of young FtM younger trans girls that are like this. The other extremely common trend is a lot of them see themselves as boys of younger ages not men.

In my opinion this speaks volumes about their mindset and as to why we should or shouldn't allow people below certain ages to transition, but part of the problem with young females is the more they are told they aren't allowed to do something to themselves the more obsessed they become with it. It's like telling a girl not to date a certain guy, you basically just guaranteed she's gunna drop her panties for him.

But yeah, pretty much everyone between 12-25 is struggling with their identity and sexuality to some extent, yes even cis heteros. We all evolve and change interests in that time. Which is part of the reason why people who get married before 20 tend to have such high divorce rates. Between 22-32 is the sweet spot for marriage btw. for women at least. There was another study I read that showed men it's like 3-5 years later, but I can't find that now.

Disney Censorship: Three Little Pigs 1933 original vs. 1948 reanimated scene by Clown_Chan in MeanwhileOnReddit

[–]makesyoudownvote 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Oh Woah!

This scene is apparently almost the entire basis by the way for the widespread belief that Walt Disney was anti-semetic. In his personal life he was actually very embracing of different religions and cultures relative to the time.

That's it. Really. Look it up sometime.

He employed and was friends with many jewish people, and by their accounts never did anything wrong outside of contemporary standards. Hell by the standards of this site he was practically a philosemite. Yet this is enough justification for Meryl Fucking Streep to go on a rant about him.

Was he racist, sexist and anti-semetic by today's standards? Sure, but everyone even 5 years ago is if we are honest with ourselves. Disney started 100 years ago for God's sake!

I hadn't seen the two scenes side by side like this, but I can kinda see how people thought this was anti-semetic. I just think that's a stretch though to anyone who understands contemporary cartoons and how they worked at the time. The whole idea was the exaggerate stereotypes. It played with racism and stereotypes in a disarming and jovial way, much like how sketch cartoonists will exaggerate your features like buck teeth or pouty lips.

Also this is a wolf in disguise. He's disguised as a door to door salesmen, and the long nose is clearly to hide his own long nose just like wolves have. The Jewish stereotype just happens to physically match the wolves features, which in itself is the joke. There isn't anything inherently anti-semetic about it, just like if he was wearing sheep's clothing it wouldn't be caprinaephobic. It undoubtedly adds complexity and tension to the scene, and is better in it's original uncensored version.

[–]makesyoudownvote 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is the first time I have heard anyone take such a based take.

Everyone here wants to go to the extreme and say it's because Hollywood is a secret kabbalah of Pedophile Jewish Satanist Lizard people or something like that, but the truth is much more simplistic. It's a narrative they can't control or spin to make themselves look good.

I think there is also another element to it though. I think Disney specifically passed on it because it's bad for their brand. The association of a Family centric brand with pedophilia just gets too messy. Even if it's them condemning it the association has been made and the thought is planted in people's minds.

I think with all these factors together though they pretty much have to bad mouth the movie just to save their own jobs. Board members don't care about woke politics, they care about returns and stock value. So studios are doing their best to avoid their board realizing how bad of a call they made.

You are correct about the $15 billion spent on the wall.

Almost all of it came out of US defensive spending and it is ALSO only a tiny fraction of the US military spending.

The US has given $75 billion to Ukraine to date and only $46.6 of it came from our military spending.

$75 billion vs 15 billion. Which is a smaller drop of USes budget?

Let's put it this way. Which do you think would protect you better? Spending $100 to get a sturdy steel door on your house that locks, or sending $500 to your high school bully's little brother because that bully was mean to him? Which is more likely to stop bugs from getting in, or wild animals?

Russia is nothing. They are a shadow of their former self. They have nuclear weapons, but virtually no reliable way to use them. Other than that they are conservatively at least 20 years behind the US in every way. Thanks to our high military defense budget.

Also, I don't know how often you have been to the wall, but from a design and engineering standpoint, it's actually pretty damned impressive/amazing. Any fence or wall can be defeated, but this wall is actually among the more difficult to bypass. It's EXTREMELY difficult to climb and virtually impossible to cut through and fairly difficult to dig tunnels under. I think you conception of what the wall is, is completely off base. It's basically a bunch of 30 foot tall bollards, that are straight and staggered so you can't even fit an arm through them to grip anything. You can't set a standard ladder against them either because of the gaps. They are also buried fairly deep and tunneling them, though possible, is extremely difficult. Even if you manage to, if you dig too close to the top which is at minimum 6 feet deep, so say you dug 8-10 feet deep, the bollard could come sliding down blocking your tunnel and potentially impaling anyone under it at the time.

As far as closure of military bases... Really? You do realize that the entire maritime economy depends on the enforcement by US military right? I'm not just talking about the US, the entire world economy would collapse if the US didn't protect trade and enforce global stability. This is the kinda hare brained theory that every fresh out of high school liberal arts college bound kid thinks.

I'm further left than most of this site, and I'm definitely not a Trump fan boy. I actually am more inclined towards the other side of this. I do in general think supporting Ukraine is in our best interests. But your facts here literally make zero sense to anyone with even a rudimentary understanding.

Also if you want a real threat to the US, look slightly further east to China. We are extremely lucky that our support of Ukraine didn't provoke China into supporting Russia. We'd still win, but at a huge cost, and not for long. Every piece of tech we send to Ukraine in their war brings China that much closer to determining how to defeat our tech, and they are already really close.

It's definitely not the only place in the world. There is a bee farm in Buena Park California that has several purple honeys from the specific types of flowers they gather nectar from.

To add to the berry theory, at least the story they used was that it came from the boysberries grown at nearby Knotts Berry Farm.

Knott's Berry Farm infamously tried to reproduce this though and failed. They sell purple boysenberry honey, but it's only purple because they add boysenberry flavoring to the honey.

As someone with IBS and Celiacs disease this is basically my worst nightmare.

I had something similar happen once while deep water SCUBA diving in Baja California.

Trying to hold it when I needed a decompression time was awful. I didn't make it and the stuff made it all the way up my suit and into my beard. I was surrounded by fish though like a Disney princess as apparently they liked the taste. Less so of the group I was scuba diving with. They swam over to see the fish and I tried to wave them away.

The worst part was the miserable 2 hour boat ride back with shoulder to shoulder space and over a dozen people crammed shoulder to shoulder with my stinking suit sitting in the middle of the boat, and having to ask the captain to stop every few minutes so I could jump overboard and shit again. :(

The whole obsession with pedophilia is basically to have another way of shutting down rational conversation with emotional overload.

Once it's brought up you can't defend it lest you are seen as one yourself. It's the same tactic they ran to the ground with racist, bigot, anti-semite, transphobic, homophobic etc.

The right is just using the same tactic the left overused. Standards change and recently it's been happening at break beck speeds. 20+ years ago, 16 was basically considered what 21 is considered to us now. Pedophilia is supposed to have a very specific definition of people under 13. Ephebophilia is the attraction to teenagers. Genetically most men are wired to be ephebophiliacs which is 18 year olds were considered the most attractive age for women until basically the MeToo movement when suddenly that wasn't acceptable either.

I will say to me, I tried dating a few 18-20 year olds while I was in my latw 20s and I realized quickly that while I may find them physically attractive, there really is a HUGE difference in our lives and what we have in common. I was even into the whole dependent submissive girl concept at the time, but realized it had it's limits. Girls of that age are really just not ready for real relationships, which is probably also why boomers who on average got married younger than any other group in American history, got divorced so much. Mid 20s to early 30s seems like the statistic sweet spot.

The heresy lable I love that they are trying to set up is centrist. They create a strawman of centrists and always include the phrase "but muh both sides" as if it were irrational to try to look at the big picture. Yes there is a middle fallacy and you can't just always get compromise let alone even compromise. But MOST of the time the middle is more accurate than extremes. Bandwagon might also be a fallacy, but more often than not common belief is also right.

As much as I love the trans hate (because honestly the implosion of the Trans Rights Activism movement really does give me the hate boner that motivates me to get going in the morning) this clearly isn't what he's implying.

He's basically just tacking it on. It was dumb to include, but he definitely isn't saying that's a primary reason, he's just saying he doesn't even have that slight reason to consider it.

It's still a Freudian slip that indicates that sexual interest really is probably a motivating force in their choice to be in the women's restrooms. That is to say, it's implying by contrast that he gets a sexual thrill out of being around pooping women, but that's definitely not what they are saying at face value.

We need to be much more careful and precise with language in general. It's manipulation by the woke left is their most effective tool. Stay true to the precise meanings of words. Try to speak more like Jordan Peterson who carefully chooses his words and carefully listens to other's words. It's actions like that that will ultimately take the wind out of their sails.

I can't believe I am in the position of defending them, but they can. It's just that no one, including the alphabet people seem to understand the distinction.

Asexual means you're not attracted to males or females, it doesn't mean you have no sex drive. It is possible to be aroused not by a particular gender, but rather just by sex itself. This is far more common with women who can sometimes be aroused only by the concept of being stimulated with or without a partner doing the stimulation. They don't visualize the bodies of a partner the way normal people do to be aroused.

Then again, I do think most of these people have like one instance kinda like that and are thrilled they get to fall under one of the more obscure branches of the ever popular LGBTQIA2S+ umbrella.

First of all not a single one of those companies are "owned" by a Jew, they are all publicly traded companies. They are owned by thousands of people. You would have been better off siting Blackrock who owns roughly a 30% stake on average of nearly all manufacturing and agricultural companies in the U.S. and is founded and run by Larry Fink, who is definitely a Jewish man. He and his power is downright scary and a good cause for concern. He is probably the one most responsible for both the ecology push and the woke push of big business over the past 10-15 years.

But let's give the argument the benefit of the doubt and look at CEOs and founders.

Youtube and Google both owned by the same company, Alphabet. The two guys who founded it are of mixed Jewish ancestry, but both are atheists. They are more white than they are Jewish. The current CEO of Google and Alphabet is Sundar Pichai, an Indian man who is decidedly NOT Jewish. He has been CEO since 2015. Youtube has a separate CEO and while the last one did have Jewish parents the new one is also Indian and very much not a Jew.

Reddit is was founded by two guys, and a third guy that is also considered a founder. Alexis Ohanian one of the founders is definitely not Jewish, he's Armenian. Steve Huffman and Aaron Swartz both are Jewish by ancestry only. They were all pretty militantly atheist and not at all Jewish as a religious practice. Ellen Pao, the previous CEO was Chinese. Steve Huffman is definitely a snake in the grass though so whatever floats your boat I guess.

CNN was founded not that long ago by Ted Turner. Definitely not a Jew and definitely a white guy. He sold it to Warner Media Group, which is in fact currently run by Jewish David Zaslav, but the Chairman is catholic and prior to 2021 the CEO was a Christian white man. Zaslav is an idiot though and his days are definitely numbered.

Facebook and Instagram are also the same company and again you are picking someone who is barely Jewish in any way but ethnicity. But he's an absolute cuck though so feel free to say he is.

NYT, sure you got me there.

Hollywood (and by that I assume you mean the failing collection of studios in and around Los Angeles) you are also right about. It's heavily run by Jewish people. I worked in Hollywood for over a decade, though technically the only studio actually in Hollywood is not run by a Jewish guy. They absolutely have had a major stake in Hollywood since forever.

But you are also leaving out some of the biggest competition in a lot of these. Apple is bigger than Google and Meta/Facebook/Instagram combined. Tim Cook, nor Steve Jobs are Jewish. White guys.

Fox News is twice the size of New York Times and is also not run by a Jew. White guy.

Again I am not saying that's an issue either. I'm just saying there is a tendency to exaggerate when it comes to things like this.

Which God?

Surely you see how this argument is the exact same argument the left always uses about "human rights". If you boil everything down to vague terms like good and evil, you never actually get anywhere.

Now to your side's credit the Bible even if not the word of God contains over 3 millennia of morality, ethics and lessons that are for the most part explicit and don't contradict, but keep in mind the Bible more explicitly forbids things like clothing of mixed fibers and eating pork than it does things like homosexuality. The stance on homosexuality is far more manufactured by individual preists while what is taken as the literal word of God is often ignored. I'm not trying to discredit it, because I respect and honor Christianity pretty much any other religion for it's moral stances. It's got the wisdom of the Torah, but with a much more pacifist turn the other cheek sort of stance. I do believe Jesus to be the son of God, but even if you don't, the guy was undoubtedly morally a genius.

But again this misses part of the point. This country is hinged on freedom of religion and tolerance (much like Jesus himself as I read him), but this includes trying to make peace with other religions and trying to come together to a common set of ethics. You can, and should use religious texts like the Bible, but you also must allow for other religions to be given some weight too. I don't want to live under the more extreme Jewish or Islamic laws, nor do I want to live like a Mormon, so obviously some degree of the ethics are exclusive to practitioners, yet some like murder are universal. The goal is to try to nail down universal ethics that can make us all live and work together.

Then when you die you will be held to God's law.

I'm not sure if I believe that. This is sort of that horseshoe theory thing, because that sounds a lot like how the left tends to justify these things. All that cloak and dagger, "dog whistle" racism is everywhere, just always masked sort of thing.

Vampires predate even Jews, and the modern vampire origin of Dracula clearly isn't Jewish.

Also if you look at the mythos, they actually seem to have more to do with disease than anything else. Silver, garlic and running water are all ways of preventing diseases.

There is undoubtedly some overlap. I don't doubt that said myths have been used to create fear and distinction from other races, ethnicities and religions, but I think to call it THE reason is inaccurate.

I'm pleasantly surprised they seem to be at least mostly honest. That's one of my biggest issues usually with the Trans agenda. It often tries to fool children and young adults while they are at their most vulnerable and naive.

I have still never seen any evidence that the "gender affirming care" be it surgeries or HRT are doing anything to actually help these people. Every time a study is done they either find no evidence or evidence of the contrary and come up with a convoluted way of putting it down.

This isn't how you treat people with delusions, why is it different? They can never be the opposite sex, at best you put a crazy amount of effort into getting the entire world to share their delusion, to what end? Eventually they always confront reality when they can't have children or have massive health complications, often associated with their birth sex or the surgery themselves. They have to face reality and it's just that much harsher because they have been fooled into believing they have escaped it.

I have no problem making an effort to view someone by the other gender, but I definitely can't guarantee I can.

I have no problem attempting to use preferred gender language if I have any respect for you, but I can't guarantee I wont make a mistake.

I'm all for people doing this shit to their body if they want, but they MUST be fully informed and they must carefully weigh their options. And this is a big step for me, because I generally think most body mods are kinda stupid, including tattoos and piercings.

Oh yeah and stop grooming children. It's really not that big of an ask. If they come to you, sure take it seriously. There are some very rare cases of dismorphia where getting it done at a young age really might improve their overall quality of life substantially. Yeah, there are a ton of reasons why Animal House was the first.

Yes I said first, it's important to note that Animal House (1978) invented the the genre. Of course there weren't any before that because before that the college movie genre was entirely different. There was no template to emulate.

It was produced by the National Lampoon which had only started 8 years earlier, but was a spinoff of the long successful Harvard Lampoon which has been running since 1876. This magazine had long featured crude humor like this, but it was available really only on the Harvard University Campus.

It's also worth noting that prior to 1968 American film had to follow what was called the Hay's Code. This was before movie ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R, etc.). In order to not have government or regulatory oversight of film standards the big studios all banded together and decided to follow strict rules for acceptable film standards. A movie like Animal House literally wouldn't have been able to get distribution until 1968 and for a while after that the after effects still were in practice. Any studio, theater or working filmmaker who helped you release something like Animal House would have immediately been blackballed from all major film and television. You basically just couldn't make a movie like Animal House more than a few years before it was actually released.

Even if you somehow managed to get funding, maybe from a rich benefactor or something there was virtually no way to get it into theaters or anything like that. It's not like home video (VHS, DVD, BluRay) was even a thing yet either. VHS technically came out in 1976, but was pretty rare until the 80s. Animal House is actually one of the first movies to actually do decently well in the home video market though because people were ashamed to watch it in theaters, and it was considered so unique at the time.

Between this, Mario and Trump's 2016 election win, I think whats important to learn is that the loud mouths of the far left that seem to permiate every corner of internet and media are not actually an accurate representation of the American people.

Sure you may be able to get away with a mediocre movie or two with a strong social message. But if you just keep doing the same boring social message and half assing the actual story and characters themselves, audiences will get bored.

You can shame the people who speak out against it all you want and try to paint them as idiots, but when it comes to the box office, or an election, people will show what they really believe.

I'm a liberal. Not a leftist, a liberal. Liberals believe in maximizing freedom including freedom of expression and free market capitalism. Woke/PC culture is against both of these and the Democrat party has allied itself with this group as well. That's not liberal at all. That's authoritarian left. I agree he's wrong.

It's not "very small" though. Especially when you ran it in comparison to the wall. It's 5 times as much as the wall, 10 times as high of a rate ($75 billion in 2 years vs 15 billion in 4, (actually it was only 12 billion in 4, the other 3 is since 2020 but that's really splitting hairs)).

If 15 billion is a lot then 75 billion is a fuck ton. That's the comparison being made. It's quite simple, it's 5 times as much in half the time!

But more than that, Ukraine spending doesn't benefit us as much as the wall. I know that sounds silly, because of the way the information has been presented, and in a small way I will even contradict that statement, but basically Russia was either always going to win or always going to lose against Ukraine. If Russia had utilized their remaining strength well enough, it would have been over before US assistance would have meant much. But Russia hesitated and poorly strategized. Ukraine in the meanwhile played it's hand masterfully, especially when it came to garnering foreign aid and support. But Russia is basically on a death keel as a superpower. They haven't been nearly as strong as they convinced the world they were since the 80s. Our support while meaningful, in some ways, really doesn't amount to too much in terms of protecting us UNLESS the ultimate outcome is a de-nuclearization of Russia AND none of those nukes go to China.

The wall on the other hand doesn't STOP illegal immigration, but it severely limits the easiest route that is the most difficult to control. There are several ways this is one of our biggest security flaws. It's not just about invading army's or conventional warfare. It could be espionage, or mass migration. Both could easily cripple us. The border wall makes both of these orders of magnitude more difficult and will continue to do so for a century or more.

If this was some sort of ploy by China and Russia together as I believe it initially was. China stands to benefit even by not committing the way I believe they had agreed to to Putin. Every piece of tech that gets used in this war becomes less useful in later combat. China gets to learn from it's usage, find new weaknesses and exploits. They get to do this while benefiting from dirt cheap fuel supplies from Russia sold to finance their war and keep some form of trade going.

Lastly only 46 billion of that 75 came from military budget. 29 billion came from other government branches.

So basically it's the equivalent of maybe spending 1 billion to break Russia, 10-15 billion in PR with Europe, and the rest we might as well be paying for China to have direct access to our tech. It's overall a poor call strategically.

There are really only three significant benefits.

  1. Russia turned out to be even less well equipped than we thought. We got to see Russia play it's hand and though we knew they were bluffing, we didn't know how badly.

  2. NATO stands more united than ever... BUT because idiots are shouting that the US isn't giving enough to Ukraine, even though we are objectively giving more than any other country besides Ukraine itself. Because of this the good will PR we bought is largely undone. Most European nations don't look at the numbers and think we are barely giving anything.

  3. It destabilizes Russia and embarrasses Putin and his regime. This may end any hope they had for rebuilding the USSR_2.0 and COULD potentially lead to a de-arming of their nuclear weapons. However we are nowhere near that yet, and that really isn't much more likely to happen with 75 billion than it would have been with 1 million.

[–]makesyoudownvote 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Though hyperbole this is obviously a very real issue. Not so much that the zombie virus specifically is the issue, but when you are messing with anything on that kind of scale, something could very easily go wrong.

More likely possibilities are

  1. The mosquitoes mutate to be extra good at delivering malaria.

  2. The new mosquitos cause collapse of certain eco-systems.

  3. The new mosquitoes become such prolific breeders that while we may not have to worry about malaria, they are dense enough to be a much larger nussance or even dangerous in other ways.

In many ways this is the same type of risk we took when we developed the first vaccine, or when we dropped the first nuclear bomb, or when we switched to leaded gas or started burning fossil fuels. Many of these did have unexpected consequences and some of them were pretty serious, but they all (especially the nuclear test) could have been a lot worse. There was a very real concern that the nuclear reaction might not stop and could burn up our atmosphere or even cause fission of the entire planet.

Before Occulus got bought by Meta/Facebook I was working on getting them to do pretty much this. We were actually using them for therapy, but I was designing them to do both a form of hypnosis/meditation therapy and to do brain stimulation therapy using visual fields.

At the time I was under the employ of a psychiatrist who had basically been doing this using regular monitors for decades, but we decided to stop working on this once they got bought by Facebook, partially because of the moral implications and partially because they removed several key features like eye tracking that we wanted to implement in our final product.

Trans violence is violence - Middle school trans-identified male beats up girl (Video) by ClassroomPast6178 in TumblrInAction

[–]makesyoudownvote 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I think it's the opposite of what you are thinking. The language tripped me up too.

It's always difficult to tell, because both sides of the debate refuse to speak using the same terminology.

But generally the anti-trans people are a little more consistent with language than the TRAs who like to constantly violate their own rules. When sane people say male or female they are talking about the biology, their birth sex or as the trans people like to try to say their "assigned" sex.

Man and woman or boy and girl conversely can be "gendered terms" depending on who is using them.

A trans man is a female.

A trans woman is a male.

Still confusing, but at least this language is consistent.

The perpetrator is a male who identifies as a woman, AMAB, MtF whatever you want to call it.

"She" has a penis. "She" is still a male regardless of whether or not "she's" a woman.

This is why people here want "her" held to the same standards of violence against women a cis man would be. Because no matter how she feels or identifies, her body is still male and caries the same strength advantages of being a man.

Does anyone?

Neither party means anything, they are just two place holders for opposition that attempts to sway a little over half the country.

Now there are people in charge trying to dictate what that ~50% thinks and often heavily manipulates primaries, but Democrat abd Republican don't actually really mean anything.

Liberal means something, and that something is definitely not what the modern Democrat party represents.

Conservative means something, and MAGA Republicans don't really all practice that either.

A republic and a democracy both have meanings too, but they also have no specific association with the parties of the same name.

This is for them more than us, but I really wish we could at least attempt to have these discussions without using such weighted or leading language.

Take "Trans Rights are human rights". I mean yeah technically. Trans people are human, so any rights they have would be human rights, but then again so are Nazis, murderers, and even wealthy elites.

If I were to say that Elon Musk deserves the right to take anything he wants from anyone at any time, technically thay would be giving a human a right. The problem is that it infringes on the property rights of others. It infringes on their human rights. There is no more fundamental human right than free thought, and when you force people to conceptualize others a certain way you have infringed on these rights. That's what Jordan Peterson was on about with his take on trans rights and the freedom of speech associated with it.

Now to be honorable we should avoid using words like mutilate in any kind of discussion where we actually want to accomplish things. You are free to conceptualize it that way, and obviously you are free to use said language if you want, but it's counter to having a real discussion. They wont use the same language because that's not how they see it. Both parties in good faith need to make an effort to find common language and common ground in having a discussion. They just know that if they ever did, their arguments would mostly fall apart, so the TRAs refuse to.

On SaidIt much like reddit you start embracing pararadoxes in hateful ideology.

On SaidIt: You manage to lump Jews, Satanists, Communists and Pedophiles in as the same group (literally someone just told me these were the same thing).

On Reddit You suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome. You are obsessed with Trump to the point you believe the paradox that he's simultaneously an idiot and an evil genius mastermind. You believe he colluded with Russia, even though all evidence points to no meaningful association, but DAMN THE FACTS!

On SaidIt You suffer from Biden Derangement Syndrome. You are obsessed with his fuck up son Hunter and think his laptop and his coke addiction have meaningful association with the president himself. You somehow think that senile old man is capable of anything more than sniffing baby heads? Kamala I'd buy, she's basically Hillary Clinton mark 2.0 now in brown skin for extra diversity points, but she's basically out of everyone's heads now for some reason.

Seriously, I left reddit because the people sounded like NPCs, but the level of conspiracy theorist here is so low level. Your conspiracy theories are even less fleshed out than woke logic.

You can't just come to a conclusion based on a hunch, present the same "evidence" that inspired your hunch and expect people to get it without any break down or explanation at all. These are people who don't generally think ahead and take significant long term risk to their body for short term gains. Of course they are going to be druggies too.

The second most common method of suicide for trans people is firearm, just incase you were curious. Hanging is significantly less common than either.

You must not live in a very hot and dry area.

Here in the California I have done this and gotten far more than a few droplets. My design is more of a still design though, but I have gotten quite a bit. I even used a pom bottle much like the one they are using here.

The tricks are:

  1. Don't get too greedy with the water. Do smaller bottles with wide surface areas.

  2. Plan a few days in advance, you wont always get a good amount of water EVERY day. Plan on them taking 3 days. When I have done this while camping, I setup like a dozen of them at a time when I am camping.

  3. Find a spot with lots of direct sunlight away from the water source.

How many more years do you think it'll take for them to look at HRT and its subsequent surgeries the same we look back on lobotomies? by stoptheearth in TumblrInAction

[–]makesyoudownvote 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I kinda got that, however I think there is also a pretty apt metaphor here of the two sides eating themselves in perpetuity too, the left does so often JUST as the right adopts the policies they used to hold, much like your example of racial blindness or tolerance. This seems to accurately describe what has happened at the extremes of modern politics these days. Though I kinda see how visually that doesn't quite make sense if you are talking about both the left and the right.

Also I think that you have to be careful with some logical fallacies like slippery slope and median fallacy. The fact they CAN be a logical fallacy doesn't mean they are. Generally speaking when you average people's beliefs they really do tend to be correct as a collective more often than even the most expert tend to be as individuals. This is why wiki-style crowd sourcing has been so effective. However awareness of the fallacy is still necessary because sometimes they are not, and you can't put as much faith in crowd sourcing as most would intuitively feel they can.

I think when it comes to politics another major problem is that we have over simplified politics to the point people believe right and left are actual things instead of just mostly arbitrary distinctions designed to attempt to break society up into left and right. The political compass at least partially addresses this, however each issue is another dimension where people can differ and sometimes issues themselves can be multidimensional. The left and right really only exist as political entities and anyone who feels the fully ascribe to either side is either a statistical fluke or a lemming who hasn't given much original thought to any of it.

Also I don't think Hilary is a centrist at all, and I used to know her personally (Bill was a close friend of my uncle and he used to stay at his house all the time in the 90s and early 2000s). She's a leftist that lost touch with the people just around the time her husband became most relevant. She's a second wave feminist icon trying to exist in a 4th wave intersectional left. She has none of the natural talent for charisma and The one compliment I will give her is something that I think makes her and Obama seem centrist, which is that they aren't part of modern obstinance politics where people refuse to even listen to alternative viewpoints. They both represent the last time where left wing politicians and political discourse made actual efforts to try to find compromise and engage in real discussions. The right followed suit soon after. That isn't to say that she was good at it, she wasn't, but she at least makes an effort.

Anyways, I love the username, it's definitely a great elaboration or fine tuning of horseshoe theory. Sorry for the text dump, your comment just really got me thinking, and I like that!

About 5-10 years after the right stops pushing against it.

I think the writing is already on the wall to the point they would see it if they didn't dismiss it all as right wing propaganda. They are obstinate and unable to see it specifically because they are able to dismiss their thoughts and logic as evil/bigoted. Remember the way the left treats bigotry is identical to the way the catholics treat original sin or satanic temptations. As such they can dismiss common sense as heresy.

They really aren't, any more than Democrats are the only Americans that believe in democracy.

Liberal =/= Left

There was a time where the left was MORE liberal than the right which was comparatively conservative.

But neither title has been particularly accurate since at least 2016, but arguably the switch started in the 90s.

Libertarians are probably the most liberal party today, but even they don't accurately represent it.

You cannot be anti-capitalist or anti-free speech and accurately call yourself liberal. If you refer to the modern left as liberal, congratulations you are perpetuating the left's favorite tool these days, which is dictating changes to language and the definitions of words. Stop it.

Meh, CNN actually rarely outright lies, they lie by ommission, or by misleading.

Take this for example. They could publish this story while also leaving out the fact the democrats also rigged election boxes and perhaps an order of magnitude worse.

This is the kind of lie CNN and the AP do. The only real exceptions to this were between 2019-2022 when they started getting a little too comfortable with getting away with their lies.

MSNBC on the other hand just copies CNN's homework but says it louder and worse.
