I'm a liberal (not a lefty) much like him, which is the reason, I feel exactly the same way as him.

I find the pro-choice argument of unlimited bodily autonomy to be a bit rediculous to be honest. I don't think most people would agree that you should allow crazy people to amputate their limbs or kill themselves. Allowing full bodily autonomy means allowing self harm.

Self harm is legal though.

As you say, the only way it's stopped is by declaring people insane.

However I've certainly seen addicts been allowed to kill themselves by medical professionals because they saw that as personal choice rather than mental illness.

They do allow that.

Seems like there was some story about someone with body dysmorphia that had limbs removed. Wasnt even trans, but even those can mutilate their bodies.

While I disagree with those decisions that they made, why should anyone have more control over your body than yourself?

Uhh, I'm not sure if you are aware of this movement where they encourage young men to chop off their dicks and girl's their boobs.

Also tattoos and piercings are self harm imo.

I think people like to pretend that carrying a baby to term will have no negative effects on the woman. They act like all she has to do is sit there and wait for the baby to grow and then poof the baby is born.

I'm not a woman but from what I have observed the entire experience is life changing in both positive and negative ways. People like to focus on the positives.

Women die in childbirth. Their bodies change in permanent ways. Their feet get fucked up. Their pussies get fucked up. Their hips change. Their hormones go crazy. They go through wild mood swings. They experience excruciating pain during childbirth. The vagina often tears and has to be stitched back up. It is a fucked up mess.

Like Bill Burr my politics falls somewhere in the middle of this debate. I don't think it is black and white. If a woman is raped (especially an extremely young one) they shouldn't be forced to carry that child to term.

The metaphor that I like to use is that if someone breaks into your house (aka rape) you should have the right to defend yourself and kill the fucker and throw his ass out on the street.

The cake metaphor is hilarious, but it ignores the fact that after you bake a cake you eat it and then it is gone. It’s a bit more complicated with children.

I don’t like the super “lefty” perspective either, which aims to make it seem like abortion is no big deal akin to taking a shit or having your period. Which it obviously isn’t especially the further along in the pregnancy a woman is. That’s when things get really dicey, but even then miscarriages happen all the time.

I wish the whole debate wasn’t just this moronic left vs right bullshit that our “leaders” have weaponized in order to trick people into voting for them.

Thoughtful commentary. Thank you.

Agreed and well thought out.

I am pro-choice for many of the reasons you stated, but also for the same reason it's better to put down a dog than let it suffer with horrible health issues.

A child raised in a broken home by parents who resent having to have had the baby is almost certainly going to end up shitty and bringing negativity into the world. It's simple math in my opinion.

Also, it's not like you cant just pop out another too when you actually are ready. In many ways, it could be argued you may be denying that future child life by not aborting his older sibling, because those parents will feel less inclined to have another baby. So it's basically the trolley problem where you are just saying the parent isn't allowed to decide which baby to save they have to let the train continue on the original track.

These are reasons why I am pro-choice.

This said, I hate how obtuse pro-choice people are. They want to pretend the entire argument is just about women's choice so hard that they refuse to even acknowledge people might feel it's literally baby murder, which is about the worst thing people can imagine. That feeling is absolutely valid and completely arguable, and I absolutely hate the sheer level of cope the pro-choice people have to prevent that argument from even being addressed.

Honestly addressing the cope is one of the times I got banned from Reddit. All I said was that maybe strategically the pro-choice people shouldn't be all or nothing, and should focus first on unifying with the majority of people who are in between pro-life and pro-choice. Get legislation in to protect the extreme examples like rape, risk to the mother, or extreme disability in the child. Then once you have those protections and some support from the moderates THEN you can fight for pro-choice much more easily. But no they wanted to call anyone who thinks their should be ANY time abortion shouldn't be as easy as ordering McDonald's is evil. They literally drive people away from their cause with this all or nothing bullshit. It's so stupid.

I got banned from /r/twoxchromosomes and then banned from Reddit for accidentally commenting on /r/twoxchromosomes with an alt account a bit later. The comment that got me site banned wasn't even anything remotely controversial it was actually at +4 at the time. Fortunately I did manage to get this ban overturned just before getting banned again for making a similar mistake on /r/pics.

Women can die during an abortion as well as get harmed.

Women are much more likely to die due to a back alley abortion compared to one performed in a proper medical setting. I would be interested to read any data that shows whether professionally performed abortions are more or less dangerous than childbirth. The likelihood of a woman dying during child birth has decreased considerably as medical science improves and I assume that this also applies to abortions.
