All of what Spez said would certainly be worthy if not for the following:

  1. Powermods controlling an unusual number of default subs. This is particularly notable in news and country subs, almost entirely given over to left-wing viewpoints.

  2. Mods sharing block lists that automatically bans users who have posted in a politically denounced sub - regardless of what they post. This includes subs that appear in /r/all. Although not explicitly against their rules, Reddit advisees against this practice, thus they should at least remove such subs from /r/all. It's bizarre. Even subs as diverse as mental health and hair-related subs, run by SJWs, do this.

  3. Shadowbanning, with little explanation as to why this occurred, only becoming apparent if a friendly mod notices it.

  4. Shutting down all conversation concerning a paedo admin.

  5. Identitarian left subs brigading and spewing terrible vitriol. Meanwhile, subs that don't respect party orthodoxy tread a fine line to avoid being shuttered.

Yeah. It was and remains advantageous for us to have a deeply wired sense of 'my tribe' or 'my people'. We are a social and tribal species. While there is flexibility as to who 'my people' are, this only works in small numbers. When migration is large-scale, both the original population and the new tribe retreat into their respective tribes. This is why some towns in the UK are almost entirely non-British. With a shared worldview the tribes can be united, but that's not going to happen when multiculturalism explicitly preserves the differences. Multiculturalism stands in opposition to assimilation or integration. It celebrates the differences, particularly from the perspective of migrant populations.

The multicultural project was doomed to fail. Social scientists have been observing the issue and attempting solutions for well over 50 years, with little to show. We are wired this way.

Pretty much the only ones. Everything else is hormonal. Development triggered by hormones that is, not direct effects of them (meaning they won't reverse if the hormones stop, the hormones just signal to the body to make certain changes).

Still, pretty significant given sex organs are a somewhat defining aspect of biological sex.

XY people with disorders where their body doesn't respond to hormones will remain a prepubescent female their entire lives. Technically they do have undeveloped male genitals inside them, but there's no way to know without testing them. Usually this is not found out until they never go through puberty or start periods. Every other feature they have is female, because their hormones haven't changed it. Even prepubescent boys have a lot more female features than adult men. Male hormones basically trigger developmental processes off the default path and towards a more specialized one, specialized for being the best slaves for their clan, working their asses off and fighting. This only means a female can mostly become a male, doing it the other way around is not possible because there is no natural mechanism for it.

True, hormones certainly are very significant, and you're right that female genitals can develop in a severe absence of male sex hormones. Same for girls with conditions causing an excess of male sex hormones. The end result tends to be genetically one sex while showing characteristics of the other.

Sex chromosomes determine sex, leading to the development of organs that will produce the hormones you mention. Define 'almost exactly the same as a natural male'. I'd say lacking male genitals and having ovaries would be notable differences.

If you have a source that supports the claim that sex hormones can make a genetically female foetus develop into a male (presumably with male genitals) then do please share it. If what you have points to masculinising effects, with the genitals still being congruent with genetic sex then no need as that's what I understand to be the consensus on this.

This is a point that needs to be hammered home. Middle-class lefties embrace immigration without any consideration for the people who actually pay the price: the poor. Middle class areas do not become 'multicultural'. They remain largely homogenous, perhaps with a smattering of more wealthy brown people. It's the poor who find themselves competing for jobs and welfare with migrants, having to live next door to this newly imported lower class, yet told they are racists if they speak out against middle-class college students who obviously know best.

No one criticizes third wave/intersectionality because they don't want to be seen as a racist or whateverphobe. Women criticizing Islam during the Bush era went South real fast, and you'll probably notice there was a rapid change in attitude. Saving face is stupidly important within women's spaces, and feminism is largely performative in the Western world.

Agreed on the performative aspect. Feminism in the West is a mixture of applied post modernism and narcissism. Both encourage performative acts, the former to remain in good standing with the tribe and the latter because they want everything to be about them and their identity.

I don't think it's smart to dismiss the possibility of subversion of movements. Let's look deeper. When exactly did it change? (You addressed part of this with second wave). When did all of these things start hitting an apex? Who ultimately benefits from all of this? Who is profiting from all of this? How did many of these laws come to be that got us here? Were they openly voted for by all? Or were they just sort of stuffed within the fine print within a bill? I don't think any of this would have gotten as far as it has if there wasn't money to be made.

Sure. there's money to be made. There's also the ideological motivation. I'll assume good faith in the sense that most of these people actually believe what they say. It's a political cult, and they've been pushed in to this by academics, the media, and government convincing them that they are somehow oppressed. While there's some money to be made from bedroom feminists and similar types, such as through selling feminist books, cats, and dildos, I don't see that as a particularly lucrative market. The ideology is the thing being pushed. That many make a good living as priests of this cult is more a side benefit than the ultimate purpose. They actually believe this nonsense.

That’s not okay at all wtf?! You deserve to be treated with respect like any other woman. She shouldn’t have put you in that awful situation knowing she wasn’t okay with you being trans. It makes no sense to me as a lesbian to completely dehumanize someone because of what’s in their pants. I recognize that some people have preferences, but she should have communicated that with you instead of behaving in a completely unacceptable, transphobic way. Her behaviour is not indicative of a “genital preference” — it is blatant transphobia. I have such a hard time understanding people like that. To me, if you view someone’s genitals to be that much of a dealbreaker, then you don’t view the person as the gender they are. (I know some people might have trauma or some justified reason other than transphobia for having a preference, which is fine, but then they should communicate that in a respectful manor).

Hilarious. This weirdo rails on the lesbian for balking on seeing the poster's lady penis, criticising her for not communicating. Might it have been relevant for the poster to communicate a bit in relation to his penis? Call me crazy, perhaps something to earlier? Even if this was a lesbian with particularly poor eyesight, she was probably at some point going to notice a penis.

I don't see it as being bastardised. The core ideology has been there since at least second wave. While you're right that there have been and remain many different sects of feminism, mainstream feminism as well as practically all of its prominent thought-leaders and organisations have pushed the ideas of social constructionism and the oppressed/oppressor dichotomy. There's a reason why all major inter sectionalist thought arises from feminists, even if not all feminists are inter sectionalists.

Even if not every feminist has culpability, they are part of the problem when denying the role of feminism in driving us to this point. The problem for them is that it's very difficult to hold onto core tenets of second wave feminism while still being able to criticise third wave/intersectionality.

Many feminists, the type now labelled 'TERFs', are in complete denial as to how we got to this point. They can't accept that the ideology they fed for so many years pushed the social constructionism, identiarianism, and post modernist thought that underpins the transgender movement. Rather than accept complicity they instead reach for feminism's tried and trusted cause of everything bad: patriarchy!

I've seen them blame the right, which is bizarre. The right isn't known for its fondness for gender bending and child molesters. Blaming MRAs is equally nonsensical. While there's some humour in seeing feminists ejected from the clubhouse they helped build, I see no evidence that MRAs want children to be exposed to this degeneracy - quite the opposite. We'd have common ground in opposing this ideology if only they weren't deranged by their need to be oppressed by mysterious patriarchal forces.

Getting as many people as possible to vote is important to democracy.

It's a balance between getting good turnout and ensuring integrity of the electoral system. If all that mattered was getting people to vote then we'd simply leave piles of anonymous ballots on every street corner and allow people to pick them up and complete them.

The question is, "how does this reduce fraud"? The answer is that it clearly doesn't. It's a way to get people to fall off the electoral role. There is no other effect.

Because there has to be a cut-off point for registration to allow reasonable time for the mail-in ballot to be sent out and subsequently returned.

Yeah, they have bigger issues. But the democracy has one regarding them too. Their votes should be counted. They have 11 days to request their ballot. They need to organise their voter ID. This law is designed to disenfranchise some of them.

There are unexpected situations, and we should review that data to see if there needs to be an exceptions process. For the vast majority of people they should take responsibility and get this done in a reasonable amount of time. If people are waiting to the last minute to even request a mail-in then they are excluding themselves. The same goes for people who don't bother obtaining ID. There are necessarily limits. The question is to what extent there should be limits and are those limits reasonable? As well as the government's obligation to ensure access to voting there is personal responsibility on the part of the voter.

What is the benefit of legally restricting the number of drop boxes?

Logistics and integrity. Drop boxes need to be secure as well as accessible. Sure you could put a drop box on every street corner, but could they kept secure from tampering? I agree there should be more drop boxes. One per 100,000 is too low a number.

Apart from the obvious: Voting in person has much longer queues in Georgia in Black Areas than white areas. Restricting drop boxes is designed to disenfranchise black voters.

Black people tend to be more concentrated in urban areas. White people living in such areas showed comparable wait times. Poorer people wait longer.

The problem isn't the average. The problem is the bias.

There you go again. The data would actually seem relevant if you weren't focussed more on speculating on intentions rather than looking at the outcome and then working back towards causes. How were the wait times beyond early voting?

The intention is clear.

Yeah, it's always clearest when one starts with a belief and goes searching for validation to the exclusion of anything to the contrary.

including a provision banning government entities from distributing unsolicited absentee ballot applications

Yeah, to avoid the problem of ballots being sent unsolicited where it's not even clear the person still lives at the address on record or even needs the ballot. Given people needing this have some faith in their ability to post mail, completing a short form and posting it hardly seems onerous. I don't know how universal this is but at least some states require the person send this only once, where they have a permanent disability/illness, after which they will receive the ballot in subsequent elections.

the shortening of the deadline to request absentee ballots to 11 days before Election Day

Because people don't have enough notice of elections? It's not as if there's a couple of weeks in which people must rush to do this. Certainly if there's evidence that unexpected events (e.g. having to be out of state, illness) then the deadline should be reconsidered and perhaps kept to a longer period of time. For most people, if they're only getting onto this two weeks prior to an election then they have bigger problems.

the requirement that voters who do not have identification issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services photocopy another form of identification in order to request an absentee ballot without allowing for use of the last four digits of a social security number for such applications

Definitely a problem for people who don't have ID. Georgia state ID or voter ID, accepted as identification, is $32 every eight years (amortising to four dollars per year). Anybody unable to obtain suitable ID has bigger issues to deal with than requesting absentee voting.

significant limitations on counties’ use of absentee ballot drop boxes

Vote in person or by mail. Post early if worried a high volume of mail will lead to delays.

the prohibition on efforts by churches and civic groups to provide food or water to persons waiting in long lines to vote

On that I agree water is needed and should be available and provide where wait time is excessive. The average wait time is far lower than the 11 hour extreme cited in reporting. Where wait times are systemically long in some areas there should definitely be provision to reduce this. Setting a maximum acceptable time for waiting would address the root cause. People should not have to wait hours to vote, but there may be extreme situations where volume couldn't have been anticipated.

and the prohibition on counting out-of-precinct provisional ballots cast before 5 p.m. on Election Day.

I don't know anything about this so I won't comment

All of those are designed to disenfranchise the poor.

Nonsense. Sure you could argue that poor people are disproportionately affected, and you'd be right. To argue that requiring identification is designed for that purpose is baloney. It's intended to make voting more secure. You may as well be arguing that ATM PIN codes are designed to keep people with a poor memory from accessing their money.

but removing ballot drop boxes in particular does not have any purpose except restricting people's ability to vote.

You'd have a good point if you focussed on the reality that reduced drop boxes does disproportionately impact people less mobile (e.g. the poor, the disabled). Certainly that's something that should be considered. Speculating on the intention adds no value and only detracts from addressing the practical effects of the measure.

Not surprising. The APsaA is a fringe organisation whose journal seems oddly focussed on race. In their most recent issue 7 of the 8 articles could just as easily have been lifted from some nonsense grievance studies journal. The purpose of the APsaA is to provide a clubhouse for people who think the APAs to be dangerously right-wing organisations obsessed with scientific rigour.

It might have something to do with proving intent. Whatever their reasons for the charge, I hope it carries enough years to ensure this guy never sees daylight again.

When Men Behave Badly—A Review. Researchers found an association between mens chosen targets and women’s self-reported frequency of having been sexually victimized in the past. Are you going to tell me that women who claim they are liberal feminists and slur other women, say men in frocks are women, that sex work is empowering and kinks should not be shamed including rape kinks are really feminists?

Definitely not. I'm totally with you on that. A man doesn't become a woman through surgery and hormones any more than an Impala becomes an off-road vehicle if you stick really big tires on it. Sex work is a terrible industry, largely populated by the damaged and the desperate.

The prefixes have been around for a very long time, arising as feminists tailored feminism to suit their personal issues. Political lesbianism was the most hilarious version. Pretty much second wave onwards saw the codifying of the ideology from which sects grew.

You don't think you're getting into 'no true feminist' territory there? I can't recall any significant feminist group of feminist who'd entertain the idea that a woman can have any causative role in being assaulted. The closest I've found is at the extreme such as agreement that walking naked through a bad neighbourhood is a terrible idea. Patriarchy as a feminist concept makes it pretty difficult to blame anything else.

The reason we add prefixes to feminism is because there are so many variations. For example, libertarian feminism is in a minority and doesn't have the collectivist bent of mainstream feminism.

[–]Trajan 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Because at a very superficial level it seems a solution to the inequalities inherent to free markets - you can't have winners without losers. Younger people are particularly prone to seeing communism as an amazing solution that simply has not been done right, seeing themselves as having found the one true implementation that would actually work. The reason it skews more this way for younger people is a combination of lack of experience, limited exposure to working life, incomplete brain development, and academia presenting both ideology and an artificial world on which they base their views.

After World War 2 everybody quite rightly condemned National Socialism, with a great deal of research into how ostensibly normal people could be part of it. Given the political leanings of the most prominent researchers, it's not a surprise that they considered this exclusively a right-wing problem. It was only later that further research into the authoritarian personality considered the left. With decades of apologising for and concealing the obvious parallels in communism and other far left ideologies, the left never saw the scrutiny it should have received while filling mass graves pretty much everywhere it was tried. We're now left with people not realising how terrible communism is. Had things been done right, extolling communism would be viewed the way we view people who quibble over the numbers exterminated by the National Socialists.

With respect, you're all over the place. You're imposing modern political issues onto the 1960s and 1970s, presumably because it fits your overriding distrust of the establishment. I feel we could be discussing 4th century Rome and you'd still be expressing similar concerns with wokeness or Jews.

The fields of research that we're talking about here were not 'woke' back then. The rampant identitarian left colonisation of these fields is a relatively modern phenomenon, certainly present then but not prevalent. You can see this from the topics of research, medical and psychological, that was permissible back then. In the 1950s and 60s behavioural therapy was being used as a supposed cure. The APA removed homosexuality from the DSM only in the early 1970s. You recall gay related immune disease? If you want to point to specific research or treatments and provide evidence of it being deliberately sabotaged by woke researchers/doctors then that'd be an interesting conversation. I'm sure there were some who were motivated as you said, and I look forward to hearing about them.
