FreeBSD is infested. A while back they adopted the Geek Feminism code of conduct, which is as bad as one might imagine. It had a long list of the usual SJW lingo, such as ‘ Comments that reinforce systemic oppression ’ along with a ban on the dreaded virtual hug. Only 4% favoured keeping that abomination of a code of conduct. 63% went with the LLVM code of conduct, with 33% opting for a Go-derived CoC. It's worth noting that the LLVM version includes political belief along with the identity categories. It also lacks the text stating that taking any action is at the discretion of the project. This is important because the Geek Feminism CoC, from which the FreeBSD CoC was drawn, explicitly states that they reserve the right to not act on complaints if the complainant's identity is insufficiently oppressed. Although not stated in that FreeBSD CoC, it was reasonable to assume it would matter given the use of left-wing identitarian concepts throughout the document. The Go CoC does not include political beliefs, but is still far less reeking of identity politics than the CoC FreeBSD forced through back in 2018. In short, the developers spoke and overwhelmingly rejected identity politics.

This is a far better choice and certainly less overtly based in identity politics. I'm glad they decided to let normal people have a say. The feminist CoC was shoved through to the objections of many users and developers. The FreeBSD lists became a culture wars battleground, and the admins of the Reddit sub were hammering down dissent. I'll give FreeBSD another chance, and will drop it again if there's ever a hint that they'll be instituting political purity tests for people who just want an operating system.

Blacklist is a very commonly understood term. If you understand it, and most people do, whitelist is something you’ll figure out pretty quickly. Passlist is a very uncommon term. Here’s a hint: try typing blacklist, whitelist, passlist, and blocklist on a phone or computer. Notice the last two words have squiggly red lines under them?

Also, what does passlist mean? Things can pass? Things have passed a test? Things that can or should be passed somewhere? Blacklist is understood by most people, computer experts or not. Blocklist is novel, yet easy enough to understand. Passlist is more obscure, so why throw out long-used and inoffensive terminology for the sake of virtue signalling to maniacs?

A Google search for '"passlist" and computing' returns 310,000 results, with most of them referring to passwords or passing exams. '"Whitelist" and computing 'returns 6,070,000, with all first page results clearly referring to whitelisting. '"Blocklist" and computing' returns 495,000 results, with results showing that it's a term used more commonly in managing spam than the normal use of blacklist. '"Blacklist" and computing' returns 6,020,000 results, with the first page results clearly describing the concept under discussion.

In summary, these new terms have little uptake and don't even describe the same concepts as the original terms. It'd make as much sense as decreeing that floppy disks shall now be known as 'plastic enclosed magnetised disc storage'.

That they keep the image up as the first thing people see in the article is misleading. They should have either explained beforehand that this isn't Garrison's work or removed his signature from the image. People won't even see the caption if they click on one of the links below the image.

I can see the headline now. Reddit censors subs that fall afoul of a shift in the left-wing identitarian orthodoxy. Women and lesbians most affected. This is of course ignoring what has been happening online for at least a decade.

Reddit has for a long time been banning subs, shadow banning, and threatening subs that went against the 'woke' narratives, including feminism. Subs I used to be in were forced to walk a very fine line to continue to exist. Nothing that could reasonably be described as hateful - just calling out left-wing identititarianism, predominantly feminist, attacks on things that offended the party. Twitter, YouTube, Patreon, and many others have been doing this - often encouraged or cheered-on by feminists.

That the woke zeitgeist has shifted to move women down the progressive stack was inevitable. The ideology is based on an oppressed/oppressor dichotomy, with the relative oppression of any given identity determining its place in the progressive stack. Turns out that men claiming to be women are more oppressed than women and lesbians, thus lesbians and women become oppressors when they complain about some weirdo swinging his dick at young girls in the changing room. I've little hope that the exiled feminists will see how their worldview led them to where they are now. They'll blame 'patriarchy' and will imagine this to be a plot by the same people who brought us man spreading and the apparent pilot to keep women out of tech, games, comics, and anything else to which men tend to gravitate more than women. The reality is that the people feminists have been attacking for a long time have been opposing this nonsense all the time. Feminists really need a 'are we the baddies' moment of realisation. Alternatively, continue along as you are. This kind of nonsense might actually help put identity politics back in its box. Normal people can see these are men out there, beating women and even physically hurting them. Combined with the push to troon children or overtly sexual use them, we may finally see a big enough backlash. The recent BLM riots will also help if people begin to see the threads common to BLM, LGBT, and feminism.

Agreed. I show my disapproval by ignoring dumb posts. The ability to downvote is on the vast majority sites pitched as a judgement of quality, rating the post on what it adds to the conversation. The reality is that most people view downvotes as a way to indicate disagreement. That belief wouldn't be a problem if downvotes were not also tied to visibility of posts. Happy to see them absent from Saidit.

We'd also benefit from open conversation and investigation in relation to sexual abuse and LGBT in general. Without discounting normal variations, I feel we're affirming these things while ignoring trauma that could underly unusual sexualities.

LGBT people have significantly higher rates of childhood sexual abuse than the norm. It's difficult to see why a sexuality should be affirmed and celebrated if it was in part instigated by sexual abuse. It's as if the medical profession has decided that sexual abuse is to be ignored so long as the symptoms are stunning and brave. Women sexually assaulted will commonly seek to make themselves unattractive in order to avoid further victimisation. Do we celebrate incredible obesity caused by sexual abuse or do we try to cure it?

Yep. They also jump the shark each time a violent criminal gets shot dead, quite justifiably, yet the BLM movement hails this as a martyrdom. That the Bryant shooting is being painted as racism will seem obviously wrong to normal people. There's a reason why the footage is being selectively edited on TV news, yet the video is out there and circulating widely.
