The British left has long hated the working class for two main reasons:

  1. They tend to be patriotic. This runs counter to the internationalist nature most common to British leftism. This was particularly evident during World War II and during the Cold War.
  2. They declined to rise up, preferring a chance at prosperity and security over mass graves and economic ruin.

In my experience leftist movements tend to be mostly run by upper middle class types who aspire to be ruling class.
