The fundamental problem: should teachers teach culture?

My perspective? Absolutely not. Schools are not about teaching culture. They are about teaching life skills, as agreed by the community who trusts them. In other words, they teach kids to read; they teach them to write; they teach them to use numbers analytically.

There is no way to "objectively" teach culture. It cannot be done. As such, there is no way for these teachers to keep themselves in the background in cultural issues. The community does not hire them to change the culture, and the anger is that they believe this to be their job.

The complete ignorance on their part that they have overstepped such a radical line tells us all we need to know.

The school boards are beginning to throw these people out. It can't happen fast enough. I hope it's not too late.

That is culture.

Caldeira and Baraki told the Chronicle they are afraid to leave their homes in the wake of the firestorm and that they have received threats.

No shit? It's only through the incredible tolerance of Western society they aren't hanging from a tree for sexually corrupting children.

Queer teachers have been trying to turn kids in the schools forever.
