"I immediately contacted the apartment and asked them to take the trash can away."

So you would have done nothing, if you had had your way?

I would have contacted them, even if I were living in a "non-totalitarian" apartment. So IMO you didn't have to reason out all those worst-case scenarios. You could have just contacted them from the start, and saved yourself all that anxiety.

You need some motivation? Or your trying to get out?

Yes to both. And the local library is too dull and dreary a place to get work done. I can't get any motivation there.

Incidentally, have you ever thought about perhaps changing your username? Like something that doesn't make you come off as unbelievably hostile right off the bat? I mean, why?

Would you vote for Trump in 2024? by fschmidt in AskSaidIt

[–]ukromeo 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't see the point anymore. The myth of honest, clean elections in the USA was shattered in November 2020. They rigged the election, and denied Trump his rightful win. And they'd just as easily do it again.

A big fundamental problem is the people, both elites and rank-and-file. They are so corrupted that they will employ outright fraud to deny someone they don't like victory. We live in a very bad society where such people who lack standards or principles are the norm now.

As far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't matter if every election from now on were legit -- because if you allow a fraudulent election to take place without rectifying it, you really can't expect, and don't deserve, an honest election to put a real leader in power.

it won't matter since the election will be rigged again

This is really it.

To me, the logic is simple: if they could deny Trump an honest, legitimate win, then I don't see why they wouldn't do it the next time around.

And if he did win, it would be because they allowed it, and decided not to pull another steal.

Here in N. California, many people still believe the covid nonsense, but the mandates have been effectively lifted, even for unvaxxed. In my area at least, you can just about walk into any store or restaurant now without wearing a mask or showing a vax pass.

Do you still have to wear a mask or show a vax pass there? That would be pretty intolerable. But if people are just walking around wearing masks, who gives a %&#@?

Bullying serves a vital role in curbing aberrant social behavior in developing children and teenagers.

How does bullying serve to do that, if antisocial behaviors are the cause of bullying (that you write about in the next line)?

Everybody has to work to survive, even in a world of evil. Jesus said render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God, what is God's. He did not call on the people to withhold paying taxes to a secular ruler. He told them they should pay taxes to a secular ruler (which you could define as evil).

A programmer is in the same boat with everyone else. He has to earn money to live, which means programming for a non-Christian world. That doesn't mean his activity is morally wrong, or that he shouldn't program at all in the modern world. Surviving and taking care of one's family require a programmer to work in the modern world, just as much as using public services require a citizen to pay taxes to a secular, non-Christian ruler.

What about just faking it, and still work there? Isn't programming pretty much a "loner" profession anyway requiring only minimal social interaction?

American shower handles - the beginning of the end by fschmidt in nonmorons

[–]ukromeo 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't know if there's a connection, but recently I had to fix a shower faucet that works with a single handle.

The handle wouldn't shut off the water -- a problem I never had before in my life. I ended up having to remove the cartridge inside the faucet area, and putting in a new one. A real PITA. I wonder if this is a problem unique to single handle faucets, or if I would have had the same problem with a double handle system anyway.

On a related note, last year I had to repair a fridge that was only 4 years old. The fan that cools the interior had broken down, and I had to replace it. Again, never had a problem like that before in my life. Apparently, as I found out, this is a common problem in fridges today.
