Thanks, there was one issue I forgot to mention, which is not being able to tell where I'm being attacked from. Though, that might be a HUD setting I have to change. I do use the default HUD settings, so I'm not sure if there's something I need to enable.

Also, I wish the item boxes were bigger (when you touch them), since I easily pass them. I am use to the items boxes from QuakeWorld. :P

"Terrorism" == "Counter-Terrorism"? by Robin in AskSaidIt

[–]m68k 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The news media today is not in the business of providing “news”, but attention seeking stories that “may” be true, and designed to “outrage” people in the cancel culture. Not to mention, it’s all opinionated, with the facts (if any) put on the side.

I stopped watching TV a long time ago, and the only thing that I enjoy watching on my last few years of watching TV was Bill O'Reilly. But they got rid of him, so I no longer had a reason to watch TV, at all.

Anyways, to answer your question, the “mainstream media” is a dieing media and using what ever tactics they can use to make money. I rather use the term “Fake News” media. :3

This needs to be covered more. Regardless of what the facts truly are, weaponizing Twitter to attack someone does not make things right. I don’t need to repeat details of what’s already said in the videos posted (there are tons if you search Youtube), but driving someone to commit suicide, then deleting your Twitter account and hiding, seems very similar to someone committing second degree murder and leaving the scene. IMHO of course.

DRM and microtransactions are the main factors of what turns me off to PC gaming. I'm happy with classic Quake and Doom. Also don't forget some of these titles came integrated with spyware (look up Red Shell).

Media become too sensitive to jokes: American satire ‘MAD’ Magazine cease publishing content by salvia_d in conspiracy

[–]m68k 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

While I’ll agree that while the sissy generation (the few loud people in America and on Twitter) are making somewhat of a dent in today’s media including comedy, printed material such as magazines are an obsolete method of media today. The fact newspaper publications are going closing down at least their print divisions are more than enough fact this type of media is obsolete. I haven’t bought a newspaper in at least a couple of decades, and I get ALL of my news online. MAD magazine is unfortunately no exception, and I remember the good ol’ years back in the day of reading that magazine.

Windows 10 Keeps Getting Worse by Optimus85 in technology

[–]m68k 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Sure, freedom and the lack of restrictions.

I've used Windows (XP/98), MacOS (1996-ish), Geos (C64/C128), and they are/were good OS's back then (IMHO). Oddly, what got me into Linux was Microsoft adding DRM restrictions to things like recording video. I then decided to see what Linux was about, and years later here I am today. :)

I should note, anyone wanting to try another OS, should not to go cold turkey. Having a second OS to bounce between is a good idea to gradually move towards that OS.

Since you use Ubuntu (I assume you still do), you may want to try other distro’s such as Linux Mint, Manjaro. Of course, use the live images without installing. There are a couple of Youtube channels you may want to look at as well: Chris Titus Tech, Switched To Linux

Finally, it’s a matter of preference. If Windows (for example) works best for you, keep using Windows.

Ubuntu Dropping 32-bit and Why It Doesn't Matter by Optimus85 in Linux

[–]m68k 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with Ubuntu, just a matter of preference. For someone who’s a gamer, and doesn’t want to deal with Windows, they may want to use a distro that’s “cutting edge”, such as an Arch-based distro (Manjaro for example). For the average person, a Debian based distro (Ubuntu or Linux Mint for example) will be good enough.

Anything but political. But I must say, I rather it be a choice rather than being bombarded with political posts.

There's this one "music" R&B radio station I hear every week at work (no choice but to hear this station), and all I hear is anti-Trump political talk. Whatever, join the club, but they talk so much about Trump, I swear the radio station loves Trump. Anyways, the point I’m trying to make (I think I’m making one, trying not to get off topic), I rather not have to sort through political posts unless I want to see politics.

Mozilla Firefox: "All extensions disabled due to expiration of intermediate signing cert" by sawboss in technology

[–]m68k 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I mostly use Seamonkey for my main browsing, but I do use the latest Firefox for other things that require an updated browser. I'm currently testing Waterfox (meant to do this for a while now), though I'll most likely continue to use Firefox. ATM, addons are not coming back for me, and cannot download them in Firefox, but download fine in Waterfox.

Edit: So it's Sunday, and the two profiles that I have using the latest Firefox still cannot get the addons restored, even when downloading them from the site (“Download failed. Please check your connection”). I decided to make a new test profile, and attempted to download the addons. And to my surprise, they downloaded fine, no “Download failed. Please check your connection” error message.

I’m guessing that I now have two botched profiles, which I can’t seem to get addons working on them. Even though I can simply make two brand new profiles, someone over at Firefox should not be screwing around with people’s profiles because “they know better”. I was planning to move my other profiles from Firefox version 54 over to the updated Firefox, but now I scrapped that plan. Might totally go with Waterfox or something along the line. What’s to say this won’t happen again, where the new profiles I make don’t end up getting botched the same. Just hope the Lab Computers at my job that I’m in charge of are not borked the same. I already hate dealing with Windows computers, don’t need another thing driving me nuts. XD
