Over the past year, Turkey has spoken up for the Uighurs, and the United Nations and the United States have made some noise.

Turkey has used much more barbaric tactics to exterminate millions of the native Christian population and this policy continued even under NATO guidance. Back then, USA suggested it wasn't a big deal because good relations within NATO were more important.

Not to mention the persecution of Kurds during the recent years, again using NATO weapons.

So the fact that this thing has raised concerns from Turkey and United States doesn't sound that convincing.

While European colonialism definitely did harm to Africa and the like (Slave-Trade, Genocides, etc), it also brought many good things, technologically speaking. We've improved more lives than we took, pragmatically speaking.

European colonialism harmed Europe as well (Ireland, Cyprus, Poland, Baltic countries). In the case of Cyprus, it left half of the country under occupation because the Brits preferred to bring Turks back into Cyprus instead of allowing reunification with Greece.

A mistake that led to the enslavement of other people on behalf of the capitalists, then led to the colonial countries turning into 3rd world attractions, again on behalf of the capitalists.

Also there are other aspects rarely talked about, like the use of coloured troops against European populations on European soil like the Marocchinate (not only by Brits and French but also by Germans), or the fact that the Ottoman empire was also a colonial force and the European colonial forces rejected the concept of nations under Ottoman rule gaining their freedom for obvious reasons. Not to mention that colonial competition between Italy, Britain and mostly Germany led to the sacrifice of the White and Christian populations of Asia Minor and the subsequent mess in Middle East (Iraq, Lebanon and so on).
