I'm a little late to the party... Anyway, my answer is not so simple.
If I could, I would still use KDE3/Trinity. However, I found it a pain to get Trinity working in Manjaro (I could had just screwed up installing something though). So I use XFCE4, which is the closest thing to KDE3. While I can mostly deal with the god awful GTK UI, the file picker/chooser is gutter trash (IMO).
I also have Plasma 5 (KDE) as a back up DE incase XFCE4 fails for some reason. But I don't like Plasma/Qt at all. Even with compositing disabled, Plasma just feels sluggish, or the UI just doesn't feel right (I can't put my finger on it). Also, when shutting down or logging off Plasma, (for me at least) it sits at a black screen for 10 seconds, where XFCE4 is almost instant when shutting down or logging off.
Of course, note that regardless of which DE is used, and depending on the software used, getting use to both the Qt UI and the GTK UI will most likely be a thing. The little things like how double clicking feels different, scrolling, navigating with the cursor keys and such, are some the noticeable things I find that works slightly different between Qt and GTK. And yes, I know there are more GUI toolkits, such as wxWidgets, but I'm just talking about the two main ones off the top of my head. :P
Regardless, I'm still happy with what I have, and the fact it works. On the other hand, Windows at my job is currently making me puke.
