The holes that TERFs exploit by Chunkeeguy in GenderCritical

Hey, hate-readers! You're always asking for people to be kind, so I'll comply and give you some tips that may help you to convince people. If you want to refute "TERFs" arguments so much, you should start from the very beginning. If our definition of woman is wrong, then tell us what a woman is. Please, be sure to provide a non-circular definition (i.e. avoid saying "a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman" or similar phrases). Furthermore, the definition should not rely on sexist stereotipes. You may also want to refrain from sending death and rape threats and yelling "shut up" because, when you do so, people assume that you don't have any argument to defend your stance, you know?. Not to mention, engaging in such violent behaviours is very "unlady-like", and you don't want your interlocutor to have doubts about your "gender identity", right?

Once you have done that, you can start talking about everything else. ;)

Yeah, right. We know exactly which side would be one who had to compromise. QT has proven time and time again they are going to compromise in anything.

Spending more time on Twitter has led me to believe that increasing extremism on either 'side' is turning more people off from TRA & GC. It's definitely made me reach 'peak GC', even if I still hold more GC beliefs.

Please, provide the receipts of GC sending rape and death threaths, doxing, getting people fired, and physically assaulting QT. Or is that you have different criteria about what is extremism for QT and GC?

The how and why someone developes this paraphilia would be relevant if we were talking about how to prevent it or treat it, but I wasn't talking about that. Instead, I was challenging the idea that there was no choice involved in what you do. And I stand by what I said, you could choose differently, but it's easier for you pretend your inclinations are completely natural and nothing can or should be done about it. It's easier for you to just keep making excuses about how men are naturally dominant and women are naturally sumissive. You have no real interest on what women may think about and you want to naturalise abuse by using euphemisms like "erotic play". To be honest, I have no idea why you come here to discuss about this stuff if you're so conviced that you know far better what women want than we do. I am interested in hearing some perspectives from gender critical feminists on the topic of medical transition treatments for gender dysphoria by MissAnarchist in GCdebatesQT

[–]BiologyIsReal 11 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Here is what I think about these issues:

“Transition” of minors? This is a hard no for me. It used to be that most trans identified children would desist in their cross-sex identification if left alone (1). This is not the case anymore under the “affirmation model” (2). There are still many things we ignore about the consequences of “medically transing” children, but what we do know is worrisome (3, 4, 5). I don’t think children and teens are mature enough to consent to these procedures (6, 7) .

”Medical transition” of adults? Honestly, I don’t this a good idea either. First, all of the procedures associated with “medical transition” are cosmetic in nature because humans can’t change their sex. So, doctors should stop selling their patients a lie and being truthful about what “medical transition” really means. This could start by using terminology that reflect reality (a “neovagina” is nothing like a real vagina, for instance). Also, “validating” a patient’s belief of being the opposite sex may have deadly consequences for them (8, 9).

Second, doctors should stop accepting their patient’s self-diagnostics just because not doing so is “transphobic”. “Gatekeeping” is actually the standard in any other area of medicine. Other mental health issues and trauma shouldn't be ignored either.

Third, “medical transition” should be evaluated like any other treatment. So, what evidence is there that says “transition” is a desirable option? I’m afraid that “trans identified people really want exogenous hormones and surgeries to resemble the opposite sex” is not good enough. Otherwise, anorexic people should be given liposuctions and people with body integrity dysphoria should get their healthy body parts amputated (10). There is a lack of rigorous research, especially at long-term, that shows this is an adequate treatment for people with gender dysphoria. So far, it seems this is not the panacea that transactivists say it is (11). It looks like, at most, “transition” works as a placebo, albeit one that leads to a lot of health problems (12). Furthermore, transactivists suppress any research that may go against the official narrative (13, 14).

Lastly, but not least important, we cannot ignore the effects that “medical transition” may have at societal level. Because it seems that “transition” makes trans people more entitled to be treated as the opposite sex.

Legal “transition”? I’m against it. As I said before, humans can’t change their sex. So, it’s absurd that legal documents state otherwise. If you can lie about your sex, then why can’t you falsify other data like your birth date or place of birth? Moreover, making legal “sex change” possible opens a can of worms in regards to safeguarding, health care and data collection.

Social “transition”? Well this depends on what you mean by it. If we’re just talking about transgressing sex roles and stereotypes, I’m fine with it as long there isn’t a fetish involved. If we’re talking about treating trans identified people as the opposite sex, then I’m not okay with this. Trans people are entitled to their own beliefs, but they’re not entitled to force those beliefs on others. So, I’m against the disappearance of single-sex spaces they are seeking.

Also, if needed, I’d use neutral terms to refer to them, but I won’t use “preferred pronouns” and “inclusive language”. Furthermore, I don’t think news media should use such language either because news should be factual. To be honest, I lost any trust in news media a long time ago, but news sources trying to gaslight me about this topic is a new low.

But what is a female to you? And what is a male? You've never told us that. The closest thing to a definition that you gave us was something about comfort with the sex related features of your body. And that because you're female you'd freak out if you had a penis, something that many "trans women" would find transphobic (because most of them aren't distressed by their penises and, in fact, most do keep them).

GC: Why is there more focus on trans women than trans men? by Genderbender in GCdebatesQT

[–]BiologyIsReal 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of that. I don't think the doctors from yesteyear put much effort in trying to find alternative methods. However, even today many trans people are fine with the "medical trasition" offered to them because it validates their identities. Not only that, transactivists aims to eliminate any kind of "gatekeeping". I can't say for certain there would more options available now for trans identified individuals if not were for transactivists, but they certainly aren't helping.

And it's hard for me to believe you when you say that you'd prefer children to be treated without a need for transition given your opinion on not given minors GnRH agonists and CSH. Before gender clinics started affirming the children's self-diagnostics, most of them used to desist in their cross-sex identification.

[–]BiologyIsReal[S] 11 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

A man is an adult human male and a woman is an adult human female, and male and female refer to someone's sex. Meanwhile masculinity and feminity refer to the roles and stereotypes that society expects from each sex, and may vary through time and culture. I don't think there are many people who align perfectly with all the stereotypes associated with their sex in their respective cultures. Even if you're a perfect match, you may not be so in another country or time.

I don't think you can be born in the wrong body because I don't believe in the mind-body dualism. Your brain is another part of your body. I don't believe in "true trans" (and neither in "trans trenders" for that matter). I think there are people who for a variety of reasons want to be the opposite sex, and may take a variety of steps to present as such. However, they don't really become the opposite sex because such thing is not possible for humans, neither naturally nor with technogical aid. I think that trans people, deep down, understand this impossibility, and that is why they often get very angry when other people don't validate their "identities".

People don't think of Jessica as "masculine". For my examples to work, both Steve and Jessica needed to be not obviously trans. So, both Jane and Helen are shocked by these turn of events. The only reason I can think for Jane "discovering" her "lesbianism" now would be to go along with Steve's new "identity".

We're aware that you think "transwomen" are women based in their "gender identities". Maybe I missed it, but I think you have not explained what having a "gender identity" means yet. So, if "trans women" are women, what do they have in common with you and me? How do they know they are women? If their "identities" are based on gender roles, wouldn't this conflict with your goal of abolishing gender roles? Also, how can we differentiate between a "true trans woman" and a "cis" man pretending to be one for nefarious motives?

That is the problem, though, women and men are not phisiological the same even if we exclude the reproductive system of our analysis. Like other users had said, it's not only about current levels of testosterone but PAST levels of testosterone and the fact we're genetically different (i.e. males are XY and females XX). Surgeries and exogenus hormones won't change that. Besides sports, medicine is other area where those differences are notable, like for example the different way women and men are affected by COVID. I've not finished reading it yet, but so far I think this review gives a good summary of sex development and sex differences (certain phrases like "assigned sex at birth" notwithstanding...). It may be too academic, though.

[–]BiologyIsReal 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I use the term transsexual instead of transgender as it connects me to the strong and resilient women in the past who defied a society that wanted them to not exist and communicates that changing my secondary sex characteristics to be that of the opposite sex is paramount to my condition.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like quite the overstatement. First, who exactly did want people like you not to exist? Disagreeing with your views, even how you view yourselves is not the same as wanting you not to exist. Second, exogenous hormones and elective surgeries can only alter your appearance so much. For some, it may increase the likelihood that other people mistake them for the opposite sex, but only up to a certain point; and I remain skeptical that someone could fool ALL the people ALL the time. IME, people like you not only often overestimate how much they pass irl (which doesn't come up with filters, convenient angles and so on), but they also underestimate how much people are willing to play along whether for thinking is the "polite" thing to do, for fear of negative consequences or for not wanting to go against the flow.

Putting the matter of "passing" aside, there are other things that you've not considered. You focused a lot on how much people like you need all those medical procedures and that you all were/are willing to risk everything for them; unlike the modern "transgender people", who are only following a trend. However, if people like you would have born at the early 19th century, you couldn't have access them not matter what because they didn't exist. So, how much is this need innate? How much has said need arised by the very new existence (in terms of human history) of said procedures?

Furthermore, I disagree that back then there was actual "gatekeeping". I've read the old diagnostic criteria and they still relied on sexist stereotypes, unsurprisingly. It could not have been any other way because once you rule out biology to define who is a woman or a man, you're only left with stereotypes. What is more, any "gatekeeping" could be bypassed if you have enough money and that is how even in the good old days of gatekeeping you had middle aged males who were sexually attract to females, have fathered children and had very "manly" jobs declaring suddenly they were "transsexuals" and got all the hormones and surgeries done. So, how can you tell who is and who is not a "true trans". If there less people like you back then is likely because these procedures were more expensive, less available, less advertised, and less people willing to play along among other things.

All of this, plus the shoddy science done by the doctors working on "gender medicine", the fact that not other mental issue is treated the same way (e.g. nobody recommends liposuction for people with anorexia nervosa) and the well-known health problems produced for these elective surgeries and the usage of exogenous hormones is enough, I think, to question the wisdom of "gender affirmement treatments" for anyone but, ESPECIALLY, for children and teens.

You also complain about other people dismissing the experiences of people like you; however, besides focusing so much on "passability" and overestimating the ability to tell "true trans" apart from the trenders, you're ignoring the fact people will never have the same experiences than females, regardless of how much hormones you take, how many surgeries you undergo or much effort you put on emulating the stereotypical dressing and mannerisms of women, and so on.

But you worry about Republicans and bathrooms. I don't care for Republicans. I don't have any good thing to say about them nor about the Democrats (I'm not American). Yet, by your post it seems you have not considered at all how the bathroom's issue affects women, not only in the US, but in all the other countries where "affirmation" has become the norm. Indeed, it seems you feel threatened by "modern transgender people" because women may assert their boundaries with all trans identified males. Nevertheless trans identified males, BOTH "old school transsexuals" and the "modern transgender people", have inserted themselves in former women-only spaces, not only in public bathrooms, but also changing rooms, spas, sports, hospital wards, refugees, prisons, and so on. Women were not consulted for this and when we tried to assert our boundaries you all (i.e. both groups of trans identified males) you kept going on. You STILL keep going on. In some cases, some of you have responded to dissenting women with threats of rape and violence, trying to get them fired from their jobs or "cancelled", or even with actual violence.

Both groups seems completely disinterested in how much their actions hurts women. Both groups seems completely disinterested on how women may find offensive to be defined based on a bunch of sexist stereotypes or how offensive is to see our biology and our experiences be treated like a costume. Both groups ignore also how much their actions are setting the hard-earned women's rights back. In conclusion, by your post it seems you have more in common with "modern transgender people" than you think.

And yet you won't go to the men's bathrooms. Of course, you all could have lobby for third spaces ages ago. That is the obvious compromise that both the "old school transsexuals" and "the modern transgender people" has ruled out from the very beginning, and they both still treat it as a taboo. Apparently third spaces are othering and akin to racial segregation. Funny, though, how we women don't feel othered by not sharing the bathrooms with men, don't you think?

Edit: yeah, I guess I'm once again able to write a long post discussing this topic after a long, and very needed, "rest".

Overall, I think it's a great development in the right direction, though I've some concerns:

  1. They've not explictly said "cross-sex" hormones will be reserved for research settings.

  2. The stuff with teens and "social transition". Even if they have included informed consent (and we all know how well that went), they've forgotten that plenty of this stuff envolves the participation of other people, who apparently have no say on this.

  3. The fact that it still uses ideological terms like "gender incongruence", which I guess is a result of them focusing on minors. And I think, it's about time to start rethinking this whole gender dysphoria stuff and its treatment from zero.

I'd like to say that I hope my country followed this, but I'd be lying. Honestly, I'm fed up, and not only about this issue. If we limited to change course just because developed countries like England or Sweden did, then it'd mean we didn't learned any lesson (and imo, they don't go far enough, anyway). I wan't my fellow country(wo)men stop copying whatever the West is doing and figure out this is all a big scam on their own. And Western countries trying to impose this stuff (along many others) on us can f*** off, sorry, not sorry.

Saying women and men are opposite is meaningless as long you won't describe HOW they are opposite.

I'm going to make up two words: haskilm and bopagi. What do they mean, you ask? Easy. A haskilm is anyone who says they are a haskilm. And a bopagi is anyone who says they are a bopagi. Do you not understand what i mean? No problem, I'm happy to explain. Haskilm and bopagi are opposite. That should clear things up, right? What? Still no clue? But I followed all your steps for defining words!

Stop dodging the questions. You have been doing this for days now. You claim women cannot be defined by biology but, when you are called out for being sexist, you insist you didn't mean anything sexist while still refusing to explain anything. If you trully are not defining women based on sexist stereotypes, then tell us explicitly with great detail what do you mean by "social class". Also, do not forget telling us why would anyone choose willingly to be a second class citizen?

I'm not talking about a group of people called "women" and assigning the attribute of "identifying with a social class" to that group. I'm defining a term. I can see how that could be unclear when you remove the sentence from its original context.

LOL How can you not talk about a group of people when you are defining said group?

I know there are only a few active users here, but it's misleading when you claim to have unanimous support when only 3 people replied you and more so because you didn't explain you planned to get your sex "legally changed". Even now, you are not explaining what you plan to do after that. You're a man and you say you're living in a country that is not that captured by transgenderism, so what would you get out of this?

Do you even understand we're not spies? Do you understand that nobody really believes TWAW and, therefore, everyone will recognize us as women? Do you understand TRAs turn against their own all the time for not being idelogically pure enough?

I asked on here if me doing so would be good or bad for feminism, the response was a unanimous: good for feminism.

Says the guy who claimed the existence of sex chromosomes and sex-linked inheritance is advanced level biology that people from English speaking countries don't learn about before going to university.

The people at Tavistock joked that soon there wouldn't be any more gay people in England because so many of their patients were same-sex attracted. But even if ROGD teen girls were all heterosexual, why are you putting them in the same bag as midle ages AGP? Especially when the latter are likely to be among their groomers.

And how males claiming to be "women" (aka "transwomen") answer you back when you tell them something like this? Because most of them DO want access to places like women's restrooms, etcetera rather than unisex places with individual and private cubicles as you'd prefer...

As far as I read most ROGD teen girls are same-sex attracted. Among trans identified youth, you can observe many more teens with mental illnes and history of trauma than in the general population. From what I heard from detrans females females who identfy as trans, many of them seem to be trying to escape mysogyny and sexist expectations regardless of their sexual orientation. So, even when talking about heterosexual girls who claim to be really "gay men" just like in yaoi, I don't think is accurate to say they're just appropriating gay identities (disclaimer: I'm not justifying their behaviour towards gay men, although I'll argue female do not pose the same threath to gay men than males do to lesbians). Besides, we know many children and teens of both sexes are being groomed by adults and, thus, they have not discovered their "true authentic selves" on their own.

And to complicate matters, I've heard of some cases where the "gay" identified females are really females who identify as "men" dating each other.

You keep telling us how women (the kind that produces large gametes, you know) do NOT have a right to single-sex spaces, and yet here you are saying consent is important for queer theory. I mean, really?

Do you think Lia Thomas, who is sexually atracted to women, cares about consent went he exposes his intact male genitalia in the changing rooms despite the female swimmers have made clear their disconfort? Do you think the university staff care about consent when they tell the women to get over their disconfort?

You're the only not on the TRA side who cares this much about "gender identity". Saying that men pretending to be "women" are really men because of their usually stereotypical male behaviour is a self-defeating position. Women are women because of our bodies, not because a bunch of sexist stereotypes. Why anyone who is against the roles and expectations that are imposed on women and men would define the words woman and man in such terms?

The Transgender Debate is Over. by SnowAssMan in GenderCritical

[–]BiologyIsReal 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

In all seriousness now, what does it matter how men pretending to be women view themselves? I mean, I agree that such men don't believe their own lies deep down and that they usually exhibit typical male behaviours, but so what? At the end of the day, it's irrelevant how "masculine" or how "feminine they are and whether they are delusional or just lying to themselves (along with everyone else). What it matters is their sex: they are males because they bodies are built to produce sperm, and they will still be males regardless of how much hormones they take and how many surgeries they undergone. Sex is not a matter of nurture. There is no need to make up a social definition of what a woman is. Arguing that there is such a thing as a "social woman" is what we got in this mess to begin with.
