Every time I see that ad on my dash I report it lol

How many of you have genuinely experienced actual, extreme gender dysphoria? And please dont exaggerate but i mean actual, almost borderline creepy, harmful levels of what we now call gender dysphoria? Not the "im a tomboy" but "there's something deeply wrong with me" until you got over it. by schomee in LGBDropTheT

I have, and it scares me to think about how different my life would be if I was surrounded by different people during that time. I didn't even know what it was at first, just that I finally accepted that I was a lesbian and then I couldn't look at myself in the mirror anymore. I would cry if I did, and at one point I thought about top surgery. Thankfully, my friends (and therapist) recognized that what I needed was time and reassurance that I would be okay and that I didn't need to make any drastic decisions and/or changes to my body and eventually it passed. Accepting my feelings as valid and real instead of "affirming" them as reality honestly saved me.

My local pride parade lost all meaning for me when it was moved from September to June and stopped being held in the "gayborhood" and subsequently became less connected to local history. Even before this, however, it was obvious this wasn't meant for me when I went with a friend who invited a bunch of other girls who wouldn't talk to me after finding out I was "actually...y'know...like that" (their words).

The fact that stores started dropping their Pride Collections on May 1st is really gross and annoying and transparent, and I'm someone who usually doesn't mind tacky rainbow things. Target has pride themed dog poo bags, and they aren't even striped and I don't know why that's bothering me so much! It's also gotten harder to find stuff that doesn't include the extra stripes or that godawful trans triangle :/ The only criticism I see of pink capitalism revolves around not supporting evil corporations and buying "merch" (🤢) from a small business owned by a trans woman selling shit from Aliexpress with stolen art on it.

I see perverts gyrating in leather bondage suits. I see deviants crawling on their hands and knees dressed like dogs.

Not as horrible, but I've had to stop my kid from catching condoms that were thrown into the crowd because he thought they were candy.

This year I might be (ever so slightly) more vocal in my opposition to pride.

Hell yeah! Fuck the stupid aLpHaBeT mAfIa

Edit: I also hate that the pink and orange "lesbian flag" is now mainstream. Tumblr should not leak into real life like wtf

Denying access to a medically necessary therapy compromises both the health and happiness of an individual.

It's not medically necessary! Nor is it medical care, and TRAs continuing to refer to it in that way makes me so mad. Maybe if the parents and adults in these children's lives would actually care about their well-being, these laws wouldn't even be necessary:/ Honestly, as a parent I cannot even imagine wanting to put my child through that, much less being fucked up enough to encourage or even introduce the idea to him.

A majority of the straight people in my life are Very Christian so I've gotten a lot of "it's okay, we can still be friends." and the occasional totally agenda free church invite. I'll usually give them a pass since I'm the first LGB person they've (knowingly) encountered, as long as they aren't being intentionally homophobic which I haven't run into yet. They don't tend to treat me differently, but I've never brought girls around them so it might just be begrudging tolerance

I don't modify anything about myself around them, but the assumed straightness of everyone around is so ingrained that it's still somehow a shock :P

As if we needed any more evidence of maleness, they go and show off their utter lack of knowledge re: periods. The way your body reacts to the cocktail of hormones you're throwing at it =\= a period no matter how much it resembles the symptoms of PMS. But sure it's totally not a fetish.

Anyone wanna take bets on how long it takes for them to make an Inclusive™ period tracker?

The only ones cosplaying as gay are TRAs but okay

It makes sense to have generational references if you're going to DJ for a party -- Gen X guests? Bring on the 80s music!

Points were made :P

But this is cult stuff -- separate the generations and make the TRA reject the "olds"

Exactly, it's so fucking creepy the way they obsess over the idea of the older generations dying off

[–]barnarnas 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

In the Before Times, when my son left the house to go to school he would sometimes get in fights with kids who insisted "boys can't marry boys and girls can't marry girls" and honestly at this point, I'd take that over him coming home with news about his new gender identity or some shit.

(This is also a little bit because I know it bothers homophobic parents who still haven't accepted marriage equality is no longer an abstract concept they can shield their spawn from lol)

The young are regarded as the most tolerant generation. That's why results of this LGBTQ survey are 'alarming'(I'm willing too bet that the "LGB" aspect isn't the reason for the "plunge of acceptance".) by MatthewofHouseGray in LGBDropTheT

[–]barnarnas 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Driving the dilution of acceptance are young women whose overall comfort levels plunged from 64% in 2017 to 52% in 2018, says the survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD.

Shocking and unexpected /s

I do agree, though. If you look at the areas where the acceptance has gone down the most it makes way more sense when focusing on the TQ+. Also including LGB history in schools is a good goal, but that's probably not what they mean :/

It sounds like the mom has custody. The fact that she and the step-dad(?) are indulging this and enabling this victim mentality makes this seem like a mistake.

I think at this point it's gen z (I've seen them called zoomers?) vs everyone. They see themselves as the Most Progressive and the ones who will Change The World as if it's a novel concept that no generation did before.

IMHO the hyperfocus on the divide comes from a place of just not understanding why these cohorts exist. My pet theory is that the misunderstanding stemmed from my generation taking reports about consumer spending habits as a personal attack. (Another one is that their obsession with identity is the same thing boomers aka the Me Generation were dragged for as young adults haha)

Sorry this got so off topic 😅 but TL;DR set generational divides only matter in marketing and the social sciences and focus on the USA too much to be considered relevant elsewhere.

More generally, James tells me, kids are taught to start from the basic premise that their parents’ generation is outdated in its values and riddled with prejudice, a belief that gets more anachronistic with every passing year.

I know that the current obsession with generational divides isn't solely the fault of Buzzfeed and their Boomer v Millennial "articles" but it's still the first place my mind goes when I think about it. I guess Gen X is the enemy now? Even if the people pointing the fingers are screaming Boomer lol

like "demigirl"

I was into this girl in 2015(ish?) who ~identified as this and since it was so novel to me and she was always talking about how much she loved being in the lgbt community I naively assumed she liked women. (She didn't)

Now they expect people to walk around knowing that the trans label includes non-binary people and that the non-binary label covers a whole other mess of labels that make no sense, and all of these labels should be important to everyone, and if you don't believe or care then you're a nasty terf

At least they've made it easy to spot people who never developed an actual personality lol

[–]barnarnas 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

IMO so much of this stems from the push to be "kind" and "nice" to everyone you meet (especially aimed at women) and making it a strictly black and white concept where if you aren't kind and nice - words with vague and easily manipulated definitions - then you're mean and no one wants to be mean.

Except sometimes the nicest thing you can do for someone is be firm and honest, but in opposite land this is a horrible way to behave and on par with being an Actual Nazi.

I know this doesn't only affect women, but I see it the most in women, especially younger ones. They're so afraid of being labelled an unpleasant bitch that they bend over backwards to "treat people with kindness" without considering who their so-called kindness is hurting.

People are also so afraid of being "on the wrong side of history" they've got the brainrot, but that's a whole other problem.

TL;DR fuck kindness lol

Would she give it to her child?

It's not something she would have to think about, but I also never considered her potentially being the cool gender affirming aunt so this has been a weird development.

So fucking sick of Americans who think that just because the opposite party did it, it's wrong...

It's worse in the south because they feel like they have more prove or something.

It's also obvious the people opposing the bill have not read it, or even bothered to read up on any details not spoonfed via tweets.
